I am a biker and live in Derbyshire and why anybody wants to go to Matlock bath on a Sunday or bank holiday is beyond me.
Well I think people like go to because it’s crazy, but I personally only go once a year
Yep. Stopped going when it got too busy. That was about 30 years ago.
@@Martyn-Jones how long has it been going for? As a biker hub?
you go , look at the bikes have some chips and move on
It must leave some empty roads at least.
My idea of hell on a bike, luckily I have Northumberland and the Borders to enjoy as my back yard. Some lovely bikes there though….
Sounds great! Matlock is a crazy place in a bank holiday weekend I generally go in the week when it’s quiter.
Fully agree. I live on the North Wales borders and there seems to be an obsession with some to visit the same haunts using the same busy roads.
Totally agree
Yes..with guaranteed speed traps everywhere...@@rogerramjet5302
But the roads that surround Matlock are some of the best biking roads in the UK.
Even as a biker that’s my idea of hell😂. Must be an absolute pain for locals if you live there.
It’s always been like this even since I first when over 20 years ago, the locals expected it, it’s the people that go cars that have a nightmare. It’s a great buzz for the bikers but I normally go in the week when it’s quiet.
Yip. Stick to the rural fast roads away from all the madness. A ride out isn’t comfortable or fun with so many riders and bikes all in one place. Too many variables to deal with regarding other riders experience.
Yes, yes it is
I just said that a lot of weekend warriors that can’t ride and are getting creamed and giving other bike riders a bad name
@@thatbikersimonI first went 45 years ago on my AP50, with my mate who was on his Fs1e. We loved it cos it was like a free bike show. No matter how rare or prestige you'd probably see one at Matlock Bath. The shops have always appreciated the trade it brings too. Even during the winter when visitors are less numerous, you'll see bikers providing much needed income.
My idea of a complete nightmare of a ride out.
Normally I would say the same but it’s great to see all the different bikes out
I enjoyed that, thanks. I used to have a ride there years ago, when i lived in Huddersfield, then i heard they were introducing parking charges for bikes and never went back. Them traffic wardens looked a right pain.
Glad you enjoyed it. The wardens aren’t to bad in all fairness. I didn’t personally see any tickets handed out.
I think they got rid of that plan (not 100% sure on that though)
Matlock is a great place to visit. It’s been a biker spot for generations. It’s also in ‘ Places never to visit’ on a bank holiday.
Yes the chips are great though 👍
Great video thank, I love the older bikes the most. Had to pause my sweep through at the GT750, beautiful bike. Now, has Amy got any sisters, as she is one gorgeous lady 👍🏻
One amazing bike and woman lol.
Great video from you and your good lady, nice to see a lovely variety of bikes and their owners. Not been to Matlock bath for many years so good to see it again.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Hello Simon & Amy, thank you for that very nice video discovering Matlock Bath! A special thanks to Amy for the historic view. I'm glad to know about Amy's évolution like a biker. Very good looking city with a motorbikes culture in Matlock Bath. If one day i come to UK, i keep i mind coming to Matlock Bath.
Thanks buddy. Plenty more content coming to the channel 👍🏍️💨💨💨
that kind of stuff i like !
cheers from Greece !
Thanks buddy 👍🏍️💨💨💨
If you came in from the opposite direction, tailbacks start some 3 miles from town center.
Matlock is the last place i would go on a bank holiday. Well, any day, actually.
Normally i wouldn’t go anyway on a bank holiday but it was great to see all the bikes and the chips were good 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Any sunny day and its rammed, but a great place to go to on your bike
It’s a great one if you don’t like the evening rides and plenty of fish and chips on offer. 👍
WHEN I WAS A YOUNG LAD WE USED TO GO THERE OFTEN , THERE THERE WAS A LONG PATH THAT LED UP TO RIBER CASTLE AND THERE WAS A LITTLE ZOO THERE AS WELL , AND IT ALSO HAD A MASSIVE TOY TRAIN SET THERE AS WELL , AND CABLE CARS .
That’s interesting 👍 thaks for the information
I camped there with my little brother as a we'un. Goat invaded our tent and nicked our dinner.
Yes i still take my kids , get the bus into Matlock from Chesterfield , take the kids on the park their with the paddling pool , then usually walk into Matlock bath for fish and chips and arcades for the kids , i usually dodge Sundays as bus stops at seven in the evening but eleven on Saturdays and you need a full day and evening
Stayed there last year , always been full of bikers and I'm one but we did hotel, hard to get anything but fish & chips on the main road
Excellent video Simon!
Many thanks! 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Just had to mop the floor. I was dribbling far too much. Beautiful machines. 😂
You and me both! 👍🏍️💨💨💨
Great informative film 👍🏼 fab to see the one solitary Vespa scooter 🛵 amongst all those bikes 🏍️ ✌🏼
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
I used to live there as a teenager in the 80's for a few years. Before I could even ride a bike. Mom owned a hairdressing salon on the parade, which turned into a biker clothes shop when it closed. Best place to grow up if you liked bikes, fish n chips, and arcade games. Happy times.
That is awesome! What great memories 👍
Many thanks for the interesting commentary, nice to see so many different bikes! the ultra chromed Honda I think this is a US import, a Honda Valkyrie apparently one of the best and accomplished customs from over the pond if memory serves me correctly? The last time I was there in Matlock was probably twenty years ago and on a sunny day during late May it was just as busy if not more so.
Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for the info 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨💨
Good video , I've rode bikes for many years and live in a central part of the country but not in a hurry to visit that overcrowded place
Glad you enjoyed it. I would never go for the ride only the chaos of Matlock Bath, once a year for me 👍🏍️💨💨💨
Great video mate .... especially as i couldnt make it over the bank holiday !....I generally go in the evening midweek now ...bit quieter and not so difficult to park.
Thanks, yes I generally ride during the as well, but it was nice to catch the madness on the bank holiday. 👍
Great video, it was busy for sure. I was the guy crossing the road as you come into Matlock Bath 😊
Nice one! It’s always great to catch people on the camera that see themselves 👍
An excellent video! Matlock Bath is a famous inland resort. It is a bit tacky for sure and does get very busy/noisy on a warm sunny day, especially at weekends. If you like Blackpool and motorbikes, you'll love Matlock Bath. In the autumn they have the Matlock Bath illuminations, nowadays a somewhat watered-down version of the fantastic events my parents took me to in the 1950s/early 60s. But still a quite magical experience to walk through the lights and illuminated features along the far river bank at dusk. Maybe they've finished now? Last time I went was 2007.
Some great bikes on show there, but my favourite feature of the video - the lovely Amy, what a beautiful lady! Cheers......
PS. And remember, she's 5' 4", NOT 5' 2". 🤣
Thanks for the comment. I’ve been Matlock Bath many times over the last 30 years of my biking career, it still amazes me and that people you see who have never been before are totally unaware of what’s there. One old lady once asked me why are there so many bike here and I said I don’t know they always come here 😂
Thanks Simon Amy another good one. The business owners need to get together and get the council to allow more parking areas. Where they were parking illegally didn't look to me like it was causing a problem.
Thank you, yes I agree it’s only needed on a bank Holiday or a Sunday weekend. Out of Season it quiet there, but let’s face it, it happens all over the country 💰
Thanks for sharing your fun day out. Can't wait to get my bike out soon. :>)
Any time! Glad you enjoyed it. Happy riding 🏍️💨💨💨💨
It's fantastic to see so many bikes & bikers, just shows we are a long way from dead yet no matter what the stats on declining numbers say. I passed through settle on the bank hol to see the same in the market place, but there's no way i would ever visit a place like this and have the hassle when so busy, i like to get on the moors away from it all, so when i'm next in matlock or wherever, it'll be out of the holiday season mid-week lol, but thanks for the video.
Thanks, yes your right motorcycle is far from dead. Great to see so. Any people enjoying themselves 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Ace video champ! Keep up the great work 😊
Thanks! Will do! 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
I thought this had been stopped by the nimbys. Glad to see its back on.
Yes 🏍️💨💨💨💨
Ah the old 'nimby' accusation for anyone who doesn't agree with you.
Too busy for me Simon. Nice piece to camera from Amy. Thanks for taking us along. Great weather this week for taking our bikes out. Is summer finally here? 😀
It’s certainly a busy place and I definitely wouldn’t attempt it in the car lol. Glad you enjoyed the walk around Aidan 👍🏍️💨💨💨
Aesthetic and Very Beautiful
Thank you 😎
Great footage from the drone enjoyed the video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you 👍
Great video mate.you got my van in the background loads👍
Cool thanks 👍
Matlock is local to me always end up there nearly every time I go out on the bike. Ok parking on the side of the riverside. A traffic warden told me. Can't give a ticket while parking there. Good video. Just subbed.
Thanks buddy glad you enjoyed it. It’s always been a favourite of mine, I genuinely go in the week when it’s quieter but I can’t resist a crazy bank holiday ride it’s a get buzz when the sun is shining 👍
I’ve been here! Great selection of motorcycles
Yes they are! 🏍️💨💨💨💨
Great video 👍
Thanks 👍
Brilliant video. Your knowledge on bikes was amazing. Just makes me want one now 🤣😂. The biker community seem so chilled and friendly
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the comment 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Loads of nice bikes there but I really liked the hyabusa with the blue and white Suzuki faring kit. And the guy you talked to about having the comfy ride that was a nice bike too
Glad you enjoyed it. It’s a real nice day out 👍🏍️💨💨💨
Great vid . Its bonkers there 😂
Thanks glad you enjoyed it 👍
Matlock Bath has hardly changed in fifty years, it was a mecca for bikers in the late sixties, Bonnevilles. Rocket Threes, Honda fours, Velocette Thruxtons etc, the only real change has been the cable cars up to The heights of Abraham. There was a nice zoo at nearby Riber Castle.
Fantastic thanks for the info. Great memories
May be there tomorrow. Traffic Warden needs to cool down in the river for a bit.
lol good idea. Il film it 👍
There's some really cool bikes out there. 🔥
A great mix of bike 👍🏍️💨💨💨
Hi Simon, thanks for giving my pub a mention, much appreciated, there is a drink waiting for you.....
Thanks buddy I won’t turn that down 👍 cheers 🍻
I used to love going there on my bike doing a ton plus going down Baslow hill.
Yes now your talking 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
My uncle lives in the place and hates it like many of the locals and he is looking to move. He is a bike owner like myself and I work in the motorcycle environment as well. The shops in general bring nothing to the local economy he reckons and regularly change hands. They call it the seafront so a good observation. There has apparently been talk of closing of the main road except for locals on bank holidays but making it a workable option has never materialised. For me it looks like hell and I would give it a wide berth.
That’s interesting. I’ve been here in the winter time and it’s very bleak no bike no people and I do wonder how it survives
Exactly my last visit just before Christmas the place was deserted and has been the last few times I have been through all in winter.
@@thatbikersimon it's only from Easter to late Oct it's busy it winds down then to following Easter it's like a seaside resort it's only tourist catering area businesses make their money from , there's only a few pubs and fish and chips outlets open , to keep area going if that it's quiet for locals to enjoy a walk then over winter
Bonfire night is very busy!!!
If he hates a picturesque town in a gorgeous national park, maybe he should buy a bedsit in a drug riddled estate in the middle of Bradford.
I used to have a Tiger 1050, rode it all over Europe, it just ate up the miles, but by modern standards they are thirsty. When I lived in France the lounge was so big with a tiled floor that I parked it next to the sofa! Good to see Amy now has a Benelli, she quite obviously has excellent taste. :)
That’s amazing 👍
Lovely video…… Amy B looks stunning 😊
I think so too! 😂👍
Great video (subscribed) 👍
Thanks for the sub!
50 years ago, we were always there every Sunday Afternoon .
Only about 30 minutes from Ilkeston.
Yes that’s what it’s all about 👍🏍️💨💨💨
60 years ago for me, 17 years old on my Norton domi 99, took a similar time from Borrowash, always hoped that Whatstandwell Bridge s bend would be clear on the way in to do a bit of showing off cranking over as low as possible. Fantastic times and memories😊
@@morrisowen2205 amazing 🏍️💨💨💨💨
Just stumbled upon your channel. Very smooth editing and good camera work, very professionally done Simon.
I've always loved bikes but never owned them.
Used to ride friends bikes in the 80s/90s but just never got around to actually doing it legit!
My old man was a Hells Angel so it's in my blood, maybe one day!
Anyway, great video and some lovely bikes on show.
I might just subscribe! 😉👊
Thanks for watching much appreciated and there’s plenty more content to come 🏍️💨💨💨
Incredible bikes, not too far from me, I will have to go soon.
Go for it buddy 👍
Nice vid mate.
Thank you glad you enjoyed it
Loved the vid mate Would liked to have seen a V MAX Love them
Cheers buddy 👍
Been there a few times on a stroke ride out. Lovely place. Usually go to monsal head too👍😎
Nice buddy, I’ve been around the Monsal it’s great.
Great video and amazing bikes never seen any Yamaha fjr 1300 bikes
Yes there’s certainly some nice bike for sure 👍🏍️💨💨💨
Great video and excellent drone footage.
Glad you enjoyed it thanks
That Honda was amazing.
It sure was
The bike Mecca! was there in the 80's and 90's. Saw the Empire Strikes back and Flash Gordon at the cinema, sadly no longer there. Stopped in on the way back from Wales last year for pie and chips.
Yes excellent 👌 🏍️💨💨💨
It reminds me of my hometown's Bike Festival. The bikes take over the town for a few days and is such a great environment.
I see a lot of comments mentioning how awful it might be for the locals. If it is a once a year gathering/destination going for decades, in my experience, the locals most likely grew up with it and embraced it. People will come back all year round creating buzz to the area.
Don't take me wrong, I'd love to leave under a rock most of the times, but this environment can be fun.
Well said, this only happens on a nice sunny day or a bank holiday but there’s mixed feelings about it. I thinks it’s a great atmosphere.. apart from the wardens of course 😎
Not a fan of kawasaki then? Didn't mention one as you walked down the high street.
Good video of one of my favourite places.
Thanks 👍 I’m a fan of all bikes I just don’t get time to film everything. 🏍️💨💨💨
i remember doug n pips biker shop there, in the 80s... great place... ride safe man. no v maxes?...
Get memories buddy 👍🏍️💨💨
Rode through there once on our way to snake pass on our way to Scotland yep the long way round , was much ,much quieter 😊
What a great ride 👍
Used to be in a bikers club in 90s, used to go for rides there, no where in this country is the same anymore
Yes totally agree 👍🏍️
I haven't been to Matlock for decades. Interesting to see t hasn't changed
Still crazy on the Bank Holiday Steve 👍
Passing stationery queues is asking for a side swipe. Been there, done that.
Yes we had a couple of close calls 🏍️💨💨💨
So we were there that weekend, a camping trip from Norfolk. We actually walk past at 15:30 2 chaps in caps walking on the road . The lady who owned the leather repair shop said you can park at the top end of town for 1 hour then the road next to the leather shop is a divide and you can park at that side for an hour. Strange system but that’s why we were about to move the bikes while our other friend had some leathers altered
Well it’s a hour from when they take your number plate, I think the wardens were that busy on the opposite side of the road they did get time to monitor the correct side 😂 glad I got you in the shot 👍
I remember our English teacher Mr Skillington taking us on an outing to Matlock when I was in year 9(13)…there was one cafe…what on earth has this become!😱…it was such a pleasant tranquil curve of the river….should you all be in Great Yarmouth in the arcades?😂
😂👍
“Original Rocket 3” that would be a BSA then!😊
Correct 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Crazzzzzzy! 🏍️🏍️🏍️
I know Matlock on bank holiday is bonkers
Love Matlock but wouldn't go on a bank holiday! 😵💫😆
I know what your saying 👍🏍️💨💨💨
4:05. "that way is private land". So it's a perfectly ok to park there then!!!
Yes it is
Stumbled on this one, thought I'd give it a view as I sometimes get down there. I came to the view that 1, you're a ducati fan (fine, each to their own!). 2, you have little motorbike knowledge! So many interesting bikes over 5 years old and no comment!
Thanks for the comment, I’m still working on it and learning 👍
@@thatbikersimon Every day's a school day!
I believe that leak is of my gsr 600. Is was from the overflow 😊
Oh well thanks for owning up to it 😂👍🏍️💨💨💨👍👍
to me matlock bath always seems like a mixture of isle of man & a mini skegness lol ,
lol it sure does
“Think this group of bikers in front of me, come as a group?” 🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Say what you see 👀 😂
Looks great! I just passed my mod2 yesterday! I can't wait to join the event next year. Is there a link for the event with more information etc?

Love Matlock mate. It is literally like the Seaside but without the Sea. We're actually thinking about taking the girls the for 5-6 days at some point. Plenty to do there.
there*
Fantastic. You should there’s some great walks and rides
I used to fancy the Ducati Darmah, back in the seventies, never see them now.
I saw one at the Stafford classic bike show recently,
Use to go ass a lad. Back in the 70s on my H 2. Then on my GT 750. Two strokes happy days.
Fantastic times
They want to have a bike day 1st Saturday of each month, close it off. £5 each bike, funds go to a different local charity each month. More people go, the more money goes into local businesses. Everyones happy. The council should see visitors as an asset, if there is a parking issue, get some volunteer marshals parking people up.
Sounds like a plan 👍
OK block off the main road for all the residents...... idiot
@@thatbikersimonIf you have researched Klaus Schwab and visited the WEF website, you'll know that they have a very different plan for us all.
I live a few miles from Matlock Bath. My weekend and BH riding is done and dusted by 9am. I avoid it like the plague!
As for the locals, they hate motorcyclists. I know we aren't popular anywhere, but it's real hatred around here. You won't notice it on a busy Sunday etc, as bikes outnumber cars. But ride in the area 7 days a week and you definitely bear the brunt of it.
To be honest, a certain percentage come here, dick about, bounce it off the limiter from the lights with open pipes etc. A bit of common sense would help, but it's never going to happen.
Police don't want us here either. Regular stops for cans, plates etc, whilst ignoring cars with illegal plates. Masson Mills and Whatstandwell bridge on the A6 are regular bike check/stop places.
That’s doesn’t surprise me at all, old people generally like moaning about everything it comes with age lol. I get the same around here with the race track. They buy a house near a track then moan about the noise 😂 as for the police its a worthless job nowadays the same as the wardens.
Speeding, riding dangerously, and when the enviable happens the roads are closed for hours to pick up the bloody body parts
I live in Matlock Bath. Yes, I also ride (new to bikes, have a BMW 850 GS) but people rev bombing through out the day gets annoying. I tend to go over the hills towards Winster...always nice and quiet on the hill tops
@sobek good comment. That's my approach to motorcycling - get away to where it's quiet and empty.
I usually turn left at Buxton, mainly to avoid this mayhem. I'm out on two wheels for the freedom. Enjoyable watch though.
Yes normally I would do the same but on this occasion I wanted to show people how busy it gets. 👍🏍️💨💨💨
I actually had a Beezer couple of days in Matlock!
Wicked 👌
Great content Simon. Can ask whT are the shades your wearing
I bought them from go outdoors last year for about £25 I think.
Poor locals must dread this lot every bank holiday
I bet the chip shop owners don’t 😂🍟
I lived there when I first got married,in 1981 , it was great then . Would not go back there on my bike now
It was the early 90s when I was first riding there on my RD350 ypvs it’s nice to see so many different bikes but it’s a bit crazy now
Might be away from the coast but it is still a Spa resort hence the seaside feel
This is correct 👍
I went to Matlok bath about 30 years ago on my new 125cc two stroke screemer. I talked to a bunch of dudes outside the Fishpond pub and one of them let me ride his K1300 six pot bangger just because I said I didn't think I could. I will still have a cheeky pint in the rose and nod my head at the Fishpond but I have no room for the show ponies.
Brilliant story 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Try the Aprilia Tuareg mate... petrol tank low down and cruise control for sensible money 👍
I’m definitely going to ride one at some point 👍
@@thatbikersimon definitely an "under the radar" bike 👍
Matlock Bath is the place to be for bikers akd ALWAYS has been. The chips, the river, the views and the pubs. All drivers know how busy it gets amd still drive in! As for yhe traffic wardens they are seriously deluded because this is BIKER TIME. ❤
Yes 👍🏍️👍💨💨
it used to be amazing back in the 90s and early 00s - ruined now, speed traps everywhere and just too many people
Yep I total agree
Been a few times, always packed in sunny weather, got a parking ticket once on a 600rr but they dropped it :)
They definitely don’t take any prisoners
The Yam FJ outside the Rose is the Daddy, and you missed it!.
I did see it 🏍️💨💨💨
@1:38 that’s me and my dad on the right lol!
Yeah the traffic wardens are a nightmare. Everyone has a job to do. But to do that job is beyond me. Can’t just let it be for that one day.
They earn more money in tickets than car parks anyway so there you go…
Fantastic, glad I got you in the shot 👍🏍️💨💨💨
The Ducati 750 was a Paul Smart replica in celebration of his Imola win. Paul sadly died a couple of years ago, out riding a modern Ducati, killed by a halfwit Driver.R I P
That’s sad, but interesting to know
The dji wireless mic has terrible sound clipping. Like it is on max settings?
There all rubbish unless you spend thousands on pounds
Becoming a old man’s game now hardly any young ones coming through . You get behind the bikes and you can tell by the way they look in leathers 😂 in fact leather now are made wider on the belly than shoulders as a generic pattern now …
😂 the younger ones are on electric scooters now
For one reason or another I no longer ride. But I still love the culture. One thing I have never found out is why Matlock is such a mecca for bike/bikers.
Hi, Matlock tends to a hub for the Peak District plus plenty for fish & chips for the bikers
Gosh at 8:40 I saw my bike. Honda 250 Super Dream bought in 1981 SLC910W

I am a former resident of Matlock, and sadly the locals don't have a good opinion of the bikers, hence the number of traffic wardens, and you're right, they take no prisoners. Such a shame too, because the tourists contribute hugely to the local economy and employment for the very same locals who want to keep the stunningly beautiful area for themselves. Sadly this is how the local inbreds are.
Thamks for the information that’s interest to know. It’s the same in a lot of old towns, I live in Loughborough and locals here moan about students but the uni is the biggest employer of the town, no uni no town 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
@@thatbikersimon It's a small world...I left Matlock and ended up in Markfield...
Been a local for over 50yrs and the bikers were always welcome.Unfortunately as with many small towns/villages the locals have been displaced by rich out of towners who object to everything and everyone.
@@jamestravis7340 The complaints I alluded to came from Matlcok through and through residents.
I doubt bikers bring in that much in terms of economy. They can't buy anything because they can't transport it home. It'll be a cup of tea, fish and chips and that's it. Ad towns are just about money. The noise that bikes cause are ugly to many. I don't like the way they dominate the town. It comes across as selfish.
That looks like a nightmare to me..Bank Holiday is stay at home and have a few drinks with friends and family..
You can do that in the afternoon after the ride 😂🏍️💨💨💨💨
