My parents forgot me and my twins birthday from 9 to 17, we had last birthday of the year out of 10 kids, but it typically landed just after Thanksgiving. Birthdays meant ice cream, a home made cake, and 15 dollars to get ourselves something we wanted. Money was tight growing up, and with Christmas around the corner we didn't complain. At our 17th we celebrated by making our own stuff since we had jobs, our parents when they realized they had forgotten us for years felt horrible, dad got quite and mom cried. They did make it up to us, and it helped that by that point our financial situation was better.

I was raised by abusive grandparents. My birthdays were only verbal once I reached a certain age. I’m 26 now and to this day I’ve never been to a party…nor a club..or even had a group of friends. I remember I was so excited to spend my 21st birthday with my parents. My parents told me they were going on vacation during the week my birthday was. I thought I was going too, until they told me I wasn't. I spent my birthday alone, crying. The only thing that made it better was my online best friend that called me and shared shots with me. I drank a whole bottle of wine that night. It's also bittersweet because.. that same friend passed away a year later due to a car accident. She was only 19 years old. I remember feeling so sad for my mum when she told me her birthday would be forgotten as she had 7 siblings. On her 10th she had a long walk home from school, it was winter, very cold and sleet had made walking slippy, she fell into a big wet pile of horse poo. She walked most of the way freezing, wet and covered in poop and was welcomed home with labour, as it was expected of her to work on the farm everyday and help looking after the younger children from a young age. She's never stopped working hard and going out of her way to care for others.

I was kind of the black sheep of the family and was never involved in much, even when I tried they did their best to make me feel unwelcome until i just retreated back to my room. A memory that I often think back on is walking to Walmart alone and buying a tub of birthday cake ice cream, sitting in my room alone, and singing happy birthday to myself while I could hear my family laughing and having fun in the living room.
I turned 24 years old a few months ago, it was mostly lonely. I worked for my job, helped a family friend clean their house and then helped my boyfriend’s parents clean their house. My boyfriend and I were really struggling financially and so we really couldn’t go out and do anything, but somehow my boyfriend (who’s first day at his new job was my birthday) figured a way to still get me all of my favorite sugar free candies. I was out of touch with my group of friends for a little while during pandemic. Since my family purposely left for a small village to avoid the crowded town, I can't meet them at all. Then, during my birthday, I got a chance to go back to town and meet them. They invited me to play and prepared gifts and decorated one of my friend's house for a birthday party. But as it turns out, the one whose birthday was being celebrated on was my friend who had her birthday the day before mine. I came there knowing nothing about my friends plan at all. So, I had to sing happy birthday to my friend with all of my other friends while none of them remembered how that day was my birthday. I felt like such a fool

I had a teacher like that. Got fed up one day and just blantaly told her to go f herself. When she asked what did I just say. I retorted her favorite line, can't you hear or are you just too stupid to follow directions.
My school was literally so bad about this. Girl shows a tiny bit of emotion in class -> disrupting class, told off. Boy shows a tiny bit of emotion in class -> not an issue, lets support him as much as possible. Girl drawing on people, throwing shit etc -> not a problem, whatever. Boy drawing on people -> immediately in trouble. Like they had a different double standard going both ways and it caused an infinite amount of problems.
Reminds me of my 11th birthday. My mom and stepdad were broke and didn't get me anything or celebrated it because they didn't have the money at the time. But they were still broke a month later when it was my younger sister's birthday, my mom had gotten her a small cake and two presents. I remember asking her why and she told me my sister was little so all her birthdays were important. She also made a point of reminding me that my biodad would get me some presents but I hadn't seen him in months because he had been fighting for his life against cancer. I didn't learn about that until he survived it and told me he was sorry for missing my birthday, he was so pissed when he found out she hadn't told me. I also remember my stepdad was pissed when he came home because of the presents and cake. It was one of the few times he didn't play favorites between me and my sister. Despite feeling sad about what my mom had done, it was a good memory because my stepdad was angry on my behalf with my mom. Growing up wasn't easy, it never is but someone's birthday should always be celebrated.
They definitely could have still made it special even if they couldn’t do anything money wise for it. They could have had a special movie night with you or just did something. I’m sorry man :(
@@maddogmadison6379 Exactly, God knows I couldn't buy my son b day presents few times when he was growing up, I'm single parent, I don't get alimony, no social care, nothin ( our country has bad bad laws :/) around that age, 10-12, but sure made those b days as especial as they could be, I made all presents my self, didn't have money to buy them, but thers always smthn we can do to make B day special, took him out to a beach, and just devoted my time to him.. No kid should feel sadness on thier b day, they shouldn't feel sadness and that someone forgot them EVER while growing up!!
I've never forgotten my kids bdays. We may be poor, but they always get a home baked cake(I usually make the frosting and try my best to decorate it(...doesn't always go well, but it's the thought that counts. Lol😅), and make sure to have AT LEAST one gift for them. I do my best, even if I've got to prepare for 5 bdays, and all the holidays and busy days in between.😅 Being a mom is hard work, but to show your kiddos you love and celebrate them is the most important to me. I do the same with my hubby. No one used to celebrate his, and he only had awful memories like this of his bdays...so when we got together, I went out of my way to bake him whatever cake he wanted for his bday, put his fav icing on it, and sang happy bday with our babies to his with much jovial happiness. He now accepts and looks forward to his bdays. ❤ A little love and care can go a long way. Lisa deserves loads of love. She's such a smart and good kiddo.

this kinda hit with the school one. i had a teacher in primary school who made everyone put up their birthday on the birthday wall and the day it was my birthday, she was annoucing someones birthday, that someone was not me - it was the girl next to me whos birthday was three days after mine. it really upset me how it was right on the wall beside her desk but on my birthday she decided to bring up the other girl’s that didnt even happen yet.
My "sweet" 16 was on someone's wedding so naturally very few people wished me. The day after we had a small cake (sweet ik) but ended with my dad verbally and physically abusing me in front of my relatives for the tiniest reasons (accidentally spent almost 2 hours in the washroom crying was one)

I was raised by abusive grandparents. My birthdays were only verbal once I reached a certain age. I’m 26 now and to this day I’ve never been to a party…nor a club..or even had a group of friends. I remember I was so excited to spend my 21st birthday with my parents. My parents told me they were going on vacation during the week my birthday was. I thought I was going too, until they told me I wasn't. I spent my birthday alone, crying. The only thing that made it better was my online best friend that called me and shared shots with me. I drank a whole bottle of wine that night. It's also bittersweet because.. that same friend passed away a year later due to a car accident. She was only 19 years old. It was the worst but also the best birthday ever. Because she made it that way. Rest in peace Irene, I love you.

i only had 1 birthday in my entire life and it was by my aunt
I remember feeling so sad for my mum when she told me her birthday would be forgotten as she had 7 siblings. On her 10th she had a long walk home from school, it was winter, very cold and sleet had made walking slippy, she fell into a big wet pile of horse poo. She walked most of the way freezing, wet and covered in poop and was welcomed home with labour, as it was expected of her to work on the farm everyday and help looking after the younger children from a young age. She's never stopped working hard and going out of her way to care for others.

I was kind of the black sheep of the family and was never involved in much, even when I tried they did their best to make me feel unwelcome until i just retreated back to my room.
A memory that I often think back on is walking to Walmart alone and buying a tub of birthday cake ice cream, sitting in my room alone, and singing happy birthday to myself while I could hear my family laughing and having fun in the living room.

I was out of touch with my group of friends for a little while during pandemic. Since my family purposely left for a small village to avoid the crowded town, I can't meet them at all. Then, during my birthday, I got a chance to go back to town and meet them. They invited me to play and prepared gifts and decorated one of my friend's house for a birthday party. But as it turns out, the one whose birthday was being celebrated on was my friend who had her birthday the day before mine. I came there knowing nothing about my friends plan at all. So, I had to sing happy birthday to my friend with all of my other friends while none of them remembered how that day was my birthday. I felt like such a fool

I had a teacher like that. Got fed up one day and just blantaly told her to go f herself. When she asked what did I just say. I retorted her favorite line, can't you hear or are you just too stupid to follow directions.
My school was literally so bad about this.
Girl shows a tiny bit of emotion in class -> disrupting class, told off.
Boy shows a tiny bit of emotion in class -> not an issue, lets support him as much as possible.
Girl drawing on people, throwing shit etc -> not a problem, whatever.
Boy drawing on people -> immediately in trouble.
Like they had a different double standard going both ways and it caused an infinite amount of problems.

Reminds me of my 11th birthday. My mom and stepdad were broke and didn't get me anything or celebrated it because they didn't have the money at the time. But they were still broke a month later when it was my younger sister's birthday, my mom had gotten her a small cake and two presents. I remember asking her why and she told me my sister was little so all her birthdays were important. She also made a point of reminding me that my biodad would get me some presents but I hadn't seen him in months because he had been fighting for his life against cancer. I didn't learn about that until he survived it and told me he was sorry for missing my birthday, he was so pissed when he found out she hadn't told me. I also remember my stepdad was pissed when he came home because of the presents and cake. It was one of the few times he didn't play favorites between me and my sister. Despite feeling sad about what my mom had done, it was a good memory because my stepdad was angry on my behalf with my mom.
Growing up wasn't easy, it never is but someone's birthday should always be celebrated.

@@maddogmadison6379 Exactly, God knows I couldn't buy my son b day presents few times when he was growing up, I'm single parent, I don't get alimony, no social care, nothin ( our country has bad bad laws :/) around that age, 10-12, but sure made those b days as especial as they could be, I made all presents my self, didn't have money to buy them, but thers always smthn we can do to make B day special, took him out to a beach, and just devoted my time to him.. No kid should feel sadness on thier b day, they shouldn't feel sadness and that someone forgot them EVER while growing up!!

I've never forgotten my kids bdays.
We may be poor, but they always get a home baked cake(I usually make the frosting and try my best to decorate it(...doesn't always go well, but it's the thought that counts. Lol😅), and make sure to have AT LEAST one gift for them.
I do my best, even if I've got to prepare for 5 bdays, and all the holidays and busy days in between.😅 Being a mom is hard work, but to show your kiddos you love and celebrate them is the most important to me.
I do the same with my hubby. No one used to celebrate his, and he only had awful memories like this of his bdays...so when we got together, I went out of my way to bake him whatever cake he wanted for his bday, put his fav icing on it, and sang happy bday with our babies to his with much jovial happiness.
He now accepts and looks forward to his bdays. ❤

I feel bad for the forgotten birthdays in this section. But I personally wish mine was forgotten as well. In my family, I'm the one who reminds everyone of their birthdays. Unfortunately, there was this one year that i forgot my brother's birthday. I wasn't even able to read the signs... you, the date, his prolonged eye contact and his lurking around the house. I COMPLETELY FORGOT 😮!!!.
