The texture of Musang King is notably creamy and smooth, with minimal fibrous content, making it a favorite among durian enthusiasts. Its flavor is rich and bittersweet, often described as having a hint of nuttiness.
On the other hand, Black Thorn, or Ochee 黑刺, hails from Penang, Malaysia. This durian variety is distinguished by its deep orange flesh, which sets it apart visually from Musang King. The texture of Black Thorn is creamy with a slight fibrous quality. In terms of flavor, it offers a sweet, custard-like taste with a mild bitterness, which provides a well-balanced and delightful eating experience.
In Kuala Lumpur City Center we will try to see if most Durian stalls typically display more Musang King or Black Thorn. It's possible that Black Thorn could gain popularity and challenge Musang King's dominance in the durian market, especially given its unique flavor and creamy texture. The competition between these two varieties often varies based on factors like availability, pricing, and consumer preferences at any given time.
Whether you prefer the boldness of Musang King or the subtle sweetness of Black Thorn, both varieties offer a luxurious durian experience. In my previous video, I went to SS2 Petaling Jaya to check out the Malaysia Durian there and, while the 2024 Durian Season is still at its peak, why don't we explore the Malaysian Durian on the northern side of Kuala Lumpur.
Kepong Baru in Kuala Lumpur is a popular spot for affordable durians, attracting both locals and tourists with its variety of options. The area is known for its bustling durian stalls, where vendors offer a wide range of durian types at competitive prices.
Not everyone knows these Malaysian Durian Eating Places. Prices here are generally lower than in other parts of Kuala Lumpur, making it a great place to enjoy durians without breaking the bank.
Whether you're a durian enthusiast or a curious first-timer, in my experience after my first time visiting here, Kepong Baru offers an excellent opportunity to enjoy this iconic fruit without spending too much.

To get to Kepong Baru from the Kuala Lumpur City Centre using the MRT as a public transportation traveller, you can start at any MRT station in the city, such as Bukit Bintang, Pasar Seni, or Merdeka. From there, board the MRT on the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line (SBK Line) heading towards Sungai Buloh. Ride the MRT until you reach the Sungai Buloh station.
To get to Durian Kepong stalls from the Kepong Baru MRT station, follow these directions. Upon exiting the MRT station, head towards Jalan Kepong, the main road close by. Walk west to Jalan Kepong, following the signs pointing to Kepong Baru. Continue along this road for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. As you proceed, you will enter the Kepong Baru area, known for its vibrant durian stalls.
In this area, you will find lots of well-known durian vendors. Besides their fresh durians and coconut water for you to enjoy in your durian buffet with friends and families, they also offer a delightful treat such as chendol served with the finest durian king. This refreshing dessert combines the creamy richness of durian with the traditional flavors of chendol, making it a must-try.

Semua kedai jual durian disitu adalah illegal. Dah lah illegal, menyebabkan kesesakan lalu lintas terutama junction masuk ke Taman perumahan terutamanya hari minggu.....menyusahkan orang je.....ada satu kedai yg depan guard house tu mereka baru baru ini pecah simen kan tempat laluan berjalan kaki utk membesarkan kedai mereka. Kepong 22 tu kalau bukan musim durian , mereka akan jual mercun atau benda lalu. Ada mereka bayar sewa ke? Ada mereka bayar cukai?....selalu nampak DBKL lalu lalang tapi tiada tindakkan. Kenapa?....perlu report dgn MACC dulu ke baru bertindak?
