    Chris, I have a 98 Base Automatic. Motor is stock. Only have a cat back, nothing else. I replaced my radiator and fan with a DeWitt, the exact same one as you used in your c5. Stock 190 Tstat. Actually your video was my inspiration. I want my motor to run in the 190's. I live in the Chicago area. However I have not seen the same results that you have. I watch your video when you drove in 106 degree heat and your temps were 190. When you spirited the engine, the temp rose to 198, and by the time you got home you were at 189.
    I drive 6-7 miles to work. On a 42 degree morning, I am at 203 by the time I get to work. Why is it that at 106 degrees in Phoenix, you are at 190 and I am at 42 degrees in Chicago and am at 203? My condenser is cleaned out. Stock and original water pump.
    I have had my fans recalibrated to start at a colder temp. First fan=On at 205, off at 200. Second fan=On at 210, off at 206.

    I put a new radiator in my 2003 C5 about 2 years ago. The plastic end tank (where the upper hose connects) was seeping coolant and leaving a few drops on my garage floor. I ran into a huge issue with the automatic transmission fluid cooling lines when I tried to connect them to the new radiator. Would NOT connect. I tried radiators from O'Reilly's, NAPA and Autozone. No luck. I ended up adapting the cooling lines with some special fittings. I did not add any rubber parts - rubber eventually fails. I ended up cutting off the factory fittings and used a flare tool to adapt the new parts. The C5 is bone stock and I am the original owner. I have no idea why the oil lines would not attach to the radiator.

  • @trentbuckle6880
    @trentbuckle6880 Před 2 lety

    Thanks for the vid. I know your car is manual so your radiator doesn't have transmission cooler lines going into the radiator but do you happen to know on ones that do is the top line or the bottom line the line coming in from the transmission and which one is going back to the the trans? Thanks.

    Hey Chris, I was curious if there is more clearance between the sway bar and driver side fan with this setup. If so, how much do you think? My DeWitts is lowered on the cradle and I had to clearance the stock fan, now it’s off balance. If there is more clearance I’ll probably purchase the spal fans. Good content btw!

  • @thehomer5913
    @thehomer5913 Před 2 lety

    Thanks for another great vid! 2 questions: the C5 really doesn't have a radiator cap, right? Just the cap on the reservoir? Also, I've never seen you use a cordless ratchet in your videos. I just bought one hoping it would cut down on all the awkward angle torquing and maybe reduce the repetitive swinging of normal ratchets in tight spaces. BUT, it was absolutely useless for my latest project of replacing the sway bar end links. I'm thinking of returning it. Do you have/use a cordless ratchet?

    Great video. Unfortunately I have a 2001 A4 with the transmission cooler lines that have to be transferred over. I have the DeWitts and Spal fan setup that I have been putting off because I am not sure how to handle the transmission lines as far as fluid loss and refill?
    I have seen numerous videos on swapping DeWitts on C5 Manual transmissions, but nothing for the automatic?

      @Jdikmen Před 3 lety +1

      @@mycorvettelife I just called Dewitts and they said for me just to tie a plastic bag around the trans lines when I disconnect them to catch any fluid that might escape. I should be able to measure the loss and replace the fluid with the same amount until I can get the car in the air and check it properly.

    Looks like a great mod. Unfortunately for me, though I am not very trusting of aftermarket parts right now. Every single time I try anything aftermarket, the parts just dont fit properly. Example: just got a aftermarket cooling fan motor made by continental. OEM part not available in my city. the diameter was slightly too large for fan shroud. spent 2 hours wrestling it in place after lubing it up. Then go to pug it in, and connector is not compatible with wiring harness. spent time wrestling it out, getting a refund, and ordering oem part online. Car was down while waiting for new part. about 6 years ago, I had a shop replace radiator, and the one they provide , the transmission cooling lines would not seat properly, and leaked. Had to get them to put in an oem radiator. i dont like the idea of spending $799 on a dewitts radiator, wrestling it in, only to discover lots of problems with hoses, lines and connectors not fitting right. Yes they claim direct fit, but so does every other company making parts.

    • @mycorvettelife
      @mycorvettelife  Před 2 lety

      Do your homework and buy stuff that fits. DeWitts radiators fit. They are direct replacement for OEM. These are custom made pieces for your specific application. There isn’t a single company that makes a superior product. There is a reason for the cost. Lucky for you, I have a 10% off code. Code is “MyCorvetteLife”.
