    Caitlin Clark has made fans of thousands of people who never before gave Iowa Women's basketball a thought. My wife and I and my 93 year old mother now can't wait for each game so we can watch and root for those gals. I never knew how exciting Iowa Women's Basketball was but I sure do now. Lisa Bluder is a great coach. No nepotism as with Kirk Ferentz. Go Hawkeyes!

    • @Itsisawnotiseen
      @Itsisawnotiseen Před rokem +1

    • @ModernNeandertal
      @ModernNeandertal Před rokem

      @@Itsisawnotiseen That circumvention is so much hooey. Let's look at that from another angle where Barta hires his own nephew to be the offensive coordinator and it turns out that he proves to be just as rotten at it as Kirks little baby Brian. Barta's relative has the same lousy results, no better or worse. Kirk would shitcan this OC regardless of the AD Barta wanting to keep his relative on the gravy train. Kirk will never send his own son packing no matter what a POS Offensive Coordinator he is and how crappy the offense continues to be. Ferentz really believes that an Offensive Coordination should be a offensive as possible and Brian is as offensive a coordinator that is possible.

    be humble, she was raised so well by her parents.
    I do hope she stays at Iowa 2 more years.
    I pray that she stays healthy, no injuries. If I could , I want her to wear knee pads,
    those falls to the floor could damage her knees.
    What else can I say, I am so impressed by Ms. Clark in how she handles herself.
    I think she is a great role model. Fine Iowa program.

    • @survivrs
      @survivrs Před rokem

      PD Don't worry about her losing a little skin on those knees, that isn't going to hurt her. Speaking from personal experience, things like landing on someone's foot or stepping just wrong, you will find yourself in a heap with torn ligaments that will more than likely end your season or your career, and if you were looking for a career in sports, you might want to find a new choice in a hurry. I blew out my knee playing softball. I was running towards 2nd base and with no warning, I was on the ground, not moving except to breathe because the pain was that intense. I tore 2 of the 4 ligaments in my right knee, and from 1990 to 2014, I had 8 surgeries to "fix it". The last one was a total replacement and it's great now, but my fun playing competitive sports ended one July day many years ago in a state tournament with the best hit I'd had that season. I still am haunted by "what if"? Life goes on.

      Roger&Patti Fran McCaffery who coaches the Iowa men's team had 2 of his sons on the team until Connor graduated this year and is going into coaching. Fran calls Connor a "cerebral" player because he can see the court and know who is going to move where and when, who he should pass to or if he should take the shot himself. It all plays out in front of him. I see Caitlin as not only an incredible player, she also has that cerebral mentality of the game. I think with both of those kids, if you could see their brain activity during a game, it would be ridiculous. Caitlin is actually the better of the two I think when it comes to court awareness, but I've never seen anything like either of them. Fran would let Connor question a ref on certain things, practically gave him free range as if he were his assistant, and apparently the refs knew to hear him out because they paid attention and sometimes, he actually got them to change a call. Forgive me if you already knew about the McCaffery's.

    To answer Dan's question the last time Caitlin didn't have the green light to shoot the ball was probably with the Team USA U19 World Cup squad a couple years ago. There was so much talent on that team that Caitlin had to cut back on her shooting and work the ball for a better shot. With Iowa, there are several players who aren't the most talented offensively, like Marshall, so Caitlin's shot will usually be the best shot, except when Monika is in position for a higher percentage shot.

    I went to Auburn, and when I was there the women's team were 2nd in the NCAA 4 out of 5 years. I played pickup with them women a lot, and I have good skills. I am a 6'4" guy (played DIII basketball), and on Auburn women's team I could have started at shooting guard or small forward. I would've gotten CRUSHED inside, as center or power forward, as I am WAY too small. Even though their team was great, they had NO ONE who was even close in ability to Caitlin...NOWHERE close.
    She moves smoothly and effortlessly with the ball, and has the vision and passing ability like an NFL quarterback...AMAZING long-ball passes. Her long-distance shooting skills were WAY better than most guys playing college basketball. The only guy I saw in person/played against (pickup) who could shoot more long distance, easily, was Chuck Person.
    She could've started at shooting guard in the vast majority of guy's teams in today's college basketball (counting ALL the 4 year colleges, not just DI). She would be too slow to play point guard, and too small for small forward, but her shooting and passing is the key for the shooting guard position.
    We used to watch SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), who was DIII. They had a girl as backup point guard, as they had no women's team (brand new school). Caitlin could've started at point guard, shooting guard or small forward for them, and they would've won a ton more games. When I played DIII, we played at GA Tech and lost by 4...we led almost the whole game. If Caitlin played for us, as shooting guard, we would have won, EASILY, if we had a three point line.
    Two of my grandparents were from Iowa (my parents went to Iowa State), and my Michigan grandparent went to Iowa, where his uncle was Professor of Physics at Iowa. He did field events for Iowa Track and Field and qualified for the US Olympic Trials, but didn't have the money to get there by train, so couldn't go. I also used to know the Iowa VB coach. Good to see Iowa showcased...

      Burt You are so right. I didn't realize it was as bad as it is. There are only 12 teams in the WNBA. Each team can have no less than 11 players and no more than 12 players. There are 5 rounds in the draft, and only 12 players in each round. Many recruits, including some from the first round end up playing overseas unless they get called back by the team that recruited them, and that isn't a guarantee they will remain on the roster. With the NIL in play, college kids who are destined to go pro, (especially the women) should stay in school as long as they can because it is pretty obvious they will make more money from sponsors of the NIL than what they can hope for in the WNBA. I have no desire to watch the NBA or WNBA. It's nothing like the excitement of the college game. They actually have to play and follow rules in college.

      Ed Horton I have to know.....for real....former Iowa great Eddie Horton from '85-'89?? If it is you, I never missed a game. Between you, Roy, and B.J., I could have watched you play every night of the week because of how great you all were. Wow, talk about great. I was saddened when Roy passed away. When games were on Thursday nights, my husband always had a meeting to go to so he would usually miss the first half of the game. I always made popcorn, and filled him in on everything as soon as he got back home. We only had one little boy those last 2 years you played, so as soon as supper was over, I'd get him his bath, dressed for bed, all so I didn't miss a minute of a game. All of you guys were so smooth, it was so exciting to watch. What I was going to say before I realized what I was seeing for a name was that Lisa Bluder really LOVES to see her girls pass. It's been told time and time again by the scorer's bench how they can hear her comment on so many passes that they make, and it's rare that they make a bad one. Caitlin would be similar to Connor McCaffery as his dad Fran would say, she is a "cerebral" player with her natural ability to see the court and the players and know exactly where someone is going to be before they get there. It's a rare quality, and so impressive. This truly was a dream team this year and we just came up a little short. Hannah Stuelke and O'Grady have some big shoes to feel since Warnock and Czinano are graduating and going on. I sure wish we could have a best 2 out of 3 with LSU because I know we could beat them, just not the day we had to. Thank you for what you did for Iowa basketball if I have the right person!!!

    Caitlin... I hope you realize how big your name and image have become on the WORLD stage !! Every national show I listen to on SiriusXM talks on how much they enjoy watching you play. Nike should have a Caitlin Clark shoe line. I believe they would be immensely popular especially with girls and women. You should have a gater aid commercial and other endorsements !! Your name is getting right up there with Patrick Mahomes and Lebron and KD . You don't want to make 1 or 5 million... You need to cash in to the tune of $20 to a $100 million while you are a hot commodity in commercials and endorsements. You have charisma and a fetching personality that people love !! You inspire young girls and boys to want to follow in your footsteps much like Stephen Curry. You remind so very much of "Pistol" Pete Maravich . Watch some his highlights because he was something very special as you are too !!

      @@FaithWolper with all due respect to the woman’s game and the skilled players in the women’s game, Caitlin Clark is without a doubt the one women’s basketball player with the ability to draw the views and interest of the market that typically avoids women’s basketball. • @survivrs
      @survivrs Před rokem

      @@FaithWolper I am in total agreement with Nathan. When Iowa went to Seattle and Dallas for the Sweet 16, Elite 8, and Final 4, every game that Iowa played was sold out because people wanted to see this person they were hearing ridiculous stories about. They wanted to see a piece of history being made because nowhere else is there a man or woman who can consistently hit shots from the logo or just about anywhere on the front court. She is better than everyone. Granted, we lost the National Championship to LSU, but it was not played as well as so many games before. Everyone was betting on South Carolina to kick their ass with Aliyah Boston, but the girls were ready for them. S.C. had a glaring weakness, and that was the 3 point shot. They had nobody who could really shoot it, so when a player was outside the line with the ball, Iowa was camped around the basket, and at one point, Caitlin was seen daring a player to put it up but she wouldn't. That was probably the one thing that allowed Iowa to put a halt to their winning streak at 42 games. Every one of Iowa's starters could sink a 3, just not as far out as Caitlin or as often.

      @@survivrs Behind both baskets they would put black curtains during women's games, depending on the tickets sold. We hosted 2 rounds of the NCAA Tournament and didn't use curtains for those obviously, but I'm guessing it's for shooter's background and acoustics to increase crowd noise. I worked at Carver and Kinnick a few years, and women's simply didn't draw more than 5k. Until now. All 15,500 plus standing room all day every day!
