It was a real honour to be given a MasterClass in drumming from the INCREDIBLE Chad Smith from @RedHotChiliPeppers and Gregg Bissonette who has performed with many amazing bands such as the @ringostarr 'All Starr Band'. Thank You @drumchannel for making this happen!
We had a LOT of fun. We jammed some Samba, Shuffles, Paradiddle, and much more. We talk about the styles of John Bonham, Jeff Porcaro, Questlove and Ringo Starr.

you hit the nail on the head, I have not a single musical bone in my body but I do have 30+ years of experience in wrangling computers and the absolute most rewarding thing is teaching and mentoring newbs that clearly have talent.

Real musicians can smell real talent. Their respect for her is completely earned. They’re not “humoring some kid”. They know she’s actually put in the hours and done the work. What a fantastic moment!
Yes, she's a young and inexperienced drummer. But she is damn sure a drummer, and they respond to her accordingly.
It's 3 drummers having fun, not one, not two, but 3, and they all enjoy eachother. Impossible not to like this :)

I knew when I seen her play with the Foo Fighters that a top drummer was entering the play field .
I can't wait to see her evolve and reach her top moments .
There's nothing more beautiful than the way the vibe evolves from "we're talking to a kid" to "we're talking to a peer."
The way she hears them play a beat, and immediately gets it and starts playing it just like them. That's a real musician. She is so talented and these guys are great mentors.
Never understand how anyone can do that to be honest, whether it be guitar, drums, kazoo, whatever. I can understand the concept cause I can pickup operating different machinery pretty fast, I guess in that I have a understanding of machinery, but music. I feel music to the bottom of my heart, but can't keep a beat if my life depended on it.

She is such a joy to watch. Lights up the room. You know, the light that tends to dissipate with age. No wonder she has so many "rock uncles." They are attracted to the light.

She has amazing talent! I wanted to play the drums in high school in 1972. They wouldn’t let me because I was a girl. You go girl and live my dream! ✨

Oh same here! I always wanted to skateboard and drum, total tomboy lol. Drumming was impossible for several reasons, but skateboarding I didn't do because my two older brothers bullied me for everything I did anyway, so I wasn't gonna give them any more emmo lol. I did have a friend however that paid for his own drumming lessons, and I catch myself regreting that I didn't do the same (we were about 12). Maybe one day though.
IMO - if you have the resources - it's never too late to learn to play an instrument.

I met Gregg once at a drum clinic he did at a music store I worked at at the time. He was the most humble, amazing, and super nice. Due to our policy if we were working we were not allowed to ask for personal autographs, but could for the store to display. I ended up helping him during his autograph session. At the end he thanked me for helping him remove the drum heads from the packaging so they were ready for the next fan to get one signed. He leaned over and said, 'I understand you are not suppose to ask, but I am going to give you one anyway.' He signed one handed it over thanked me again. That was something that made my week, and I still have the drum head. What a wonderful human! Always remember, a few minutes with someone, can make an impact for life. You are amazing, keep playing!

Got a drum stick at a Creedance Clearwater Revival from Doug Cosmo Clifford. Guy had almost worn through the stick. Getting mementos like that from people we admire is great. CCR didn't get massive big but they were still fairly big in my book. Their music still appears on films today.

Gregg is the nicest guy! I met him during Toto shows and at drum clinics as well. Also got a drum head with a personal message from him and still have it, attached with great memories. This was awesome to watch, they were so in to having fun with Nandi and telling her the ins and outs about drumming. She had that shuffle down great already

And also, we know nothing about her life and how she got here, we don't know her struggles and what it took to get here.
Besides, regardless of her level of struggle, what is the point of gaining all that experience if you never share it, then others must start at the same point you did, instead, teach them what you know, and hope they will grow to surpass you, so that the art continues to grow, why reinvent the wheel constantly, just because someone else had to?
I hope your life has improved in the year since you posted this, because this is not a healthy position to take. Therapy works, if you’re still acting like this.

For real. There has to be something DEEPLY wrong with you to have a problem with an amazing 11 year-old. Hopefully this guy got the help he desperately needed. We don’t need cancerous people shitting on any kids, let alone ones who shine this bright.
She picks up new beats almost instantly they are showing her so much respect because they fully grasp how insanely talented she is at such a young age.
Wow, Nandi is amazing and Chad and Gregg are top notch teachers with her. Gregg is like an Apex predator of a teacher during this master class. He cautiously awaits his moment, studying the student's ability patiently before firing away with 3 MAJOR lessons specifically catered to what he knows Nandi will need as a future career drummer. 1. "Questlove thing" - Gregg knows this style is rapidly exploding in the drumming scene, and will probably be a need to know style for her generation. 2. Cross Stick Placement - He notices Nandi can/will play anything, so a focus she will need is to begin really paying attention to the sound of each stroke. Pointing out nuances in cross stick sound will help may open her ears and mind to this aspect. 3. Trading Fours - Gregg takes note that she has learned countless drum parts and fills, but doesn't seem to want to ad lib too much while she's "on stage" with them. He wants to help her get comfortable improvising, discovering her own sound and groove, and allowing the audience to come with her on that journey of "Nandi Music." There is no better way to do this than trading fours with a couple of drumming greats.

That was the best part of the video, I'm glad they were teaching her to be herself. Its one thing to know techniques, but its best remembered that those techniques were only created because somebody else before us was able to be themselves.

As a Master of Music graduate from Juilliard, I would have killed to have a masterclass like this with not one but TWO great masters! And they were so encouraging and kind - that was a lesson in itself! They were not in the least bit snooty or patronizing. They treated Nandi like an up and coming colleague. What a true one hundred percent blessing! Congrats, Nandi, you've earned your degree, and no one can take away you talent, or most importantly, your sheer joy at learning. You're a pro! And I still think that Prince was a little girl from Ipswich.
I think a large part of this these guys attitude is reflected buy Nandi s gratitude. She's not snooty or acting entitled, and willing to learn. Plus , seems to me that she's fun to be around.
But that is drummers for you....

Yes and no.
Yes, she is privileged to meet such drumming legends such as Chad and Gregg.
But on the other hand, no, she isn't privileged, because if it wasn't for her hard work and dedication to her craft, she wouldn't have necessarily made as far as she's made it already.
The fact is that Chad and Gregg is able to talk to her about executing a paradiddle and then she is able to execute it for that otherwise "tricky" drumming pattern (which has its basis in said paradiddle) shows that she has put in the time to work on her rudiments so that it can be applied thusly.
If she hadn't put in the work (on her rudiments), she might not have made it as far as she has by this stage/by her age.
In other words, the very thing that you talk about which made the legends successful is also, likewise, the very thing that is bringing her success as well. (hard work)

At that age she is awesome ... but a) hopefully she doesnt miss out on other aspects of childhood (like Mozart probably had) AND b) hopefully she gets the right kind of bandmembers for any future ventures AND c) isnt screwed over by managers from the industry.

In all the videos where she's playing with band members I haven't seen anyone talk to her as a kid.... they all talk to her as a gifted musician....

I think Nandi actually leveled up as a drummer two or three times in this video. Wow! This was great to watch and such a great blessing of an experience for this young musician.

The best lesson they gave Nandi wasn't a drum pattern - it was a philosophy. Don't practice and focus on what you're good at - practice what you don't know. She's the future of drumming, and the future is in good hands.

By default she is already living that philosophy, since she's only a child and everything is about practicing what she doesn't know yet. That's probably why children have this amazing sponge like ability to learn new things, when they truly focus on something they love.
@@siliconiusantogramaphantis2122 The stuff she learned so far has been achieved through enjoyment of the song itself, but there will come a time when the songs are not that palatable to her ... and that's when the "practice what you dont know and might not like" comes in.
I just hope she can find some band mates and a singer that can be worthy of playing with her because then? I can't even imagine ... also Nandi seems like EXTREMELY musical and knowledgable in general so I wouldn't be surprised if she turned out to be like some genius songwriter etc.

Key in this is that ALL of them really really enjoy drumming. Like doing it themselves or listening to others doing it.
I remember when Dave Grohl was blown away by Nandi’s talent & he had her play at a Foo Fighters concert. She is so awesome and such an inspiration for people.
No kidding, and instead of being shy she rocked it hard.
This girl is serious. What a joy to have as a student. She said she wanted to learn it proper so that she could perfect it then and there. She is listening and following directions. I love that they're showing her stuff that is beyond her ability at this point. But they're showing her which way to go and through practice she will master everything they are teaching her. And she'll do it three times faster than normal child would.
So great....kudos to Chad and Gregg for sure.

And the whole thing is on tape, so she can review, try again, again and again. She got a few Bonham secrets here too.

Nothing says respect more than two eminent drummers taking time out of their schedules for something like this.
THe best part of the whole thing, and the true master class part was where they encouraged her to improvise with them at the end. That's the lesson she needs with these guys more than any other. Love to watch it.

Be easy Bro. Not everybody get this step. You must practice that your hands are bleeding… like 5-6 hours everyday nonstop 24/7. everybody learns different. I can’t learn 5-6 hours it’s to much for me and my concentration.
She picks it up extremely quick. Improvising is really hard for a young player but she did really well. It's hard because they're still learning what they can actually do and don't know they can do a certain thing until they try it. Big props to her for playing with these big dogs and not being afraid to try. She's truly a treasure.

this is an example of someone with natural talent combined with the proper guidance and instruction. good on her parents for that!
Imagine that you are 11 yrs old and getting a drum workshop from one of the biggest drummers there are. How amazing! Lovely to watch. One of the most important things is sharing knowledge.

I should be in bed, never watch a 32 minute video late at night. Chad and Gregg, couldn't have been any cooler and Nandi killed it. I have no talent whatsoever and this young lady as well as these 2 fantastic guys blow me away. This was heartwarming to see how they welcomed her and interacted with her. Always enjoyed Chad and will continue to follow Gregg from now on. I will always be a Nandi fan, she is pretty fantastic.

I love how these veterans are sowing into the next generation they were so encouraging to her and gave her all the respect of a colleague...and while Nandy is cobfident she is also humble. There to learn! Watching the shuffle section. Bonham was a madman. Chads enthusiasm for fool in the rain. I also really love Gregg Bissonette. One of his own fab four ... Roth, Vai, Sheehan, and Bissonette.

Man what an honour young lady your amazing.
I've been lucky enough to meet lots of well known musicians and hands down the nicest happiest friendliest one ever by far was Chad Smith.
Just looking at those ear-to-ear grins from Chad & Gregg says it all. They enjoy this soooooo much and really want to teach their massive knowledge to this prodigy. And Nandi, star that she already is, picks it up so easily. They love it!!
So I'm just wrapping my head around these guys combined have more than 6X years as world class percussionists her experience.....and she's nigh right there up next to them. Nandi...rock it...we need you.
It’s like I’m listening to one drummer when all three play at the same time. That’s how accurate they are!
This is amazing. I'm old and I won't be around to see it, but I suspect in 40 years, when you are in the same position as Chad and Greg, being at the very top of your profession, you'll be doing the same for another young musician. Great respect for all three of you, sharing your talents with us. Keep rocking young lady.
Watching Nandi absorb what these guys have to teach her is amazing... she's a force!
I don't have a musical bone in my body but listening to that was amazing. I can't believe I watched 32 minutes of drumming. Truly inspiring seeing an amazing young-gun listen and learn from the greats. All the best in your musical career and life Nandi. BTW, it's great you have such a supportive family.

I love how you can tell she was really concentrating and absorbing all of the advice.
I love how these stars give it all back. The enthusiasm not going only towards Nandi but together with her in this video, it shines through the displays to many other young and future star musicians. Well done guys, I appreciate how you invested your time.
They taught her a lot while showing her it’s ok to have fun and make mistakes. She’s got 2 drummer uncles for life, that’s for sure!🥁💖😁

Great job Nandi! I watch you all the time!! My son started playing drums at 2 in a half years old...he's 38 today playing professionally...God is Great ❤!
When professionals give a child who has the talent the love and the work ethic to move forward is helped and mentored by those who paved her way this awesome to see! They are giving you an awesome gift Nandi! And someday you will pass along that which you have learned to a little one who fell in love with percussion technique.

I've always liked drums, but she lights a fire in me when she plays! She is like a sponge!!!! I LOVE IT when people are hungry for it! I am blown away and can't wait to see what heights Nandi reaches. She is phenomenal!

You can tell they're impressed by their smiles when they watch her play. My 2 year old drummer boy watches her a lot. He loves her energy.

@@morbidmanmusic I don't know, with her love of Heavy Metal, absolutely anything is possible - and isn't that the point of a drummer in a Metal band? Anything is possible. If she doesn't burn out, she will definitely set the world on fire with her sticks.
