The best lands in commander, right here in the same video! There's powerful magic cards on this list, some arguably too good for the commander format. But regardless we're counting down the 15 BEST lands in the entire format! - Hry
"Creatures are the most common creature type" ... MIC DROP... 100% accurate.
NAILED IT!
Damn beat me to this lmao
Omg they're right
Cradle wasnt banned because mass creature removal is very common, artifacts are easiler to spam the field with due to 0 mana artifacts and how much rarer artifact removal is.
@@iceicejay9569 Your statement is irrelevant to the conversation.
You can have a deck without creatures, just have a planeswalker as your commander
You've ruined everything
I have never seen someone nitpicked to death.
Great minds lol
and sure Land is the most played type? oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh
@@winden-3685 not that much of a nitpick there is a PLANESWALKERS super friends deck out there and mono red darretti artifact deck its not that uncommon or hard to build
Cherries is fighting with every fiber in his being not to say 'completely insane' in the episode where it is probably accurate to say for each card. Keep up the great content!
You can’t see it but he is actually sweating profusely the entire time
sorry to be off topic but does anybody know a way to get back into an Instagram account??
I was dumb forgot my login password. I love any assistance you can offer me.
@Ryan Willie instablaster :)
This is the level of first hand info I am seeking in all youtube comment sections ;). Kepp up your good work
Top 15 Artworks of Basics if you need inspiration for a Basic land video
“Top 10 basic lands” next short? 👀
@@NitpickingNerds you could do one for each land type if you really want to milk it
20k subs this week? It's about to happen with all this incredible content! Yall are working like mad and it's very appreciated, the videos are great!!!
We can not and will not be stopped!
YES it's coming so soon! We are really excited our hard work is paying off
Tomb of the grave titan: taps for black. 4BB tap put a token called “grave titan” with death touch into play
That’s fake!
@@NitpickingNerds its the best land anyway
Sitting down after class with food to watch a NN video is the best way to relax. Thanks for the awesome content you guys are great!
I totally know that feeling and I’m so glad our channel can be that for you!!!
I beat recently a Winter Orb with a Cabal Coffers and a Sol Ring. The Nitpicking Nerds would have melted watching this game.
29:24 Fun Fact: You can actually play a deck with no creatures if you have one of the Planeswalkers that let's you play them as your Commander. (P.S. I'm not sure if anyone is doing that, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Will & Rowan, or Saheeli, spellslinger deck out there.)
You could always put planeswalkers that make creatures in the deck for board state.
Yeah we missed that one and deserve the nitpick :P
Yeah we missed that one and deserve the nitpick :P
Forest is imo the best land.
It opens up a TON of amazing turn 1 plays and Mana fixing.
Outside of Llanowar, Fyndorn, and Mystic elves we also have access to alternative Mana dorks (avacyns/BoP).
While people generally say islands are better since blue is the best color, but a turn 1 island is much less impactful than a turn 1 forest.
Blue is the best 1vs1 color. Green is far and away the best Commander color.
@@draftmagicagain1000 I'd argue red is far stronger for 1v1 with it's ability to sweep the floor out from under you.
Yesterday I had Valakut on the field and then cast Genesis Wave for 31 hitting Ashaya AND Dryad of the Elysian Fields... That was amazing.
That’s a GG!
GG, opponents
damn joe cherries looking slick in that all black
That’s what happens when he goes monochrome
Yeah, Joe has some decent fashion sense.
I will tell him it's a good look for him
Strip Mine for dayzzzz!
Other lands I love Vesuva, Lake of the Dead, Dust Bowl, Planeshift Lairs, Modern Horizon ''Canopy'' Lands, Volrath Stronghold, Hall of Heliods Generosity, Deserted Temple, ''Pain'' lands, Winding Canyon :P
2 cycles but yeah
A fun little wrinkle with Tabernacle is that the creature is destroyed and not sacrificed, whereas the Magus says sacrifice. Ulamog laughs at your puny Tabernacle trigger.
Mwahahaha
This episode was *completely insane*
All our episodes are!
Few things warm my black mage heart more than hearing beezy cry about cabal coffers on a regular
I'll never stop!
@@NitpickingNerds excellent, let the hate flow through you
Great video, I personally don't play any fetches in any deck unless I care about landfall, very specific. Never had a problem mana fixing without them but I understand why people love them
Exotic Orchid is another good untapped land.
Hmm yeah maybe if this was like Top 30 or something. There's better lands than a land that only produces mana
Yeah it's good though!
A bit late to the party but Reflecting Pool surely has to be top 15 right?
@@tylerrowe596 it is very strong and was counted with the rainbow lands to start but we didn’t want to pair things that weren’t functionally the same
Bazaar of Bagdad has 'discard two' if you happen to have a Grave Titan.
Yet another scenario where GT is valuable
Love your channel thanks for the great content. I would however put bazar in the main because of my friends proxy (yes we play with proxies) his bazar deck killed me us all in 2 turns.
Nice picks! Castle Garenbrig is another amazing land that basically just taps for 2 in the right deck.
Also, yeee I guessed #1 right! :)
Excellent video as always. I play Beezy's Karametra combo deck he posted at some point on Tapped Out, it's definitely my strongest deck (with some modern upgrades). These guys definitely know their stuff and I really only watch them and Command Zone for strategy videos now
Watch "I Hate Your Deck". They pull off a lot of cool combos and the atmosphere of their show is realistic whereas Game Knights seems suspiciously scripted.
I use Magus of the Tabernacle as a replacement for Tabernacle of the Penrillvale in my mono white elesh norn stax and it puts in the work, and accidentally combos with my win con
Command Tower is also great because it's super budget and included (I think) in every pre-constructed Commander deck (along with Sol Ring and Arcane Signet). I mean banning it wouldn't be that big of deal for veteran players that have all the possible lands ever printed (although yeah it's the best land in every 3+ colors commander decks), but it would really hit the new players, but, again, I don't think it's ever going to be be bannes since it's been a stable presence in every pre-constructed decks since I think the 1st edition.
Great video guys this information is key to building a versatile deck ty
Thanks Pawz
Not sure if it was printed after the video was made but the world tree is great for mana fixing and making other lands tap for any color gives cabal coffers something to tap for while your waiting to draw that tomb of yawgmoth.
the best land in commander is swamp you can tap it and add 1 black to your mana pool
Synergy with Coffers
6 of them gets you to grave titan
There’s also Pendrell Mists, a 4-mana enchantment (also Reserved List, I believe).
True, a great card, but still - it's 4 mana and can be countered :)
@@eltronjohn Of course it’s worse than Tabernacle. But it’s better than the Magus.
@@crawdaddy2004 no doubt about it. And I still really like the card itself - some mad art there.
My crusade against coffers in non mono black continues. Single target land destruction is getting more and more important and i always love to let people tutor for coffers in 3+ color decks to stripmine their urborg
20k giveaway idea - autographed grave titan that we can confidently keep on the shelf.
I've played Bazaar in cEDH Gitrog. Never seen it anywhere else but it's stupidly broken with the Gitfrog
I can’t believe you forgot sorrows path. I put it in ALL my edh decks.
It's the real #1. I just figured they didn't include for accessibility.
*laughs in creature-less Windgrace not using Gaea's Cradle*
What a specific laugh lol
@@NitpickingNerds ikr! XD
If you turn lands into creatures and attack with city of brass it becomes tapped and deals a damage so it would be the worst of the two
And with urborg
"Plays a land drop- OH MY GOD I CAN'T WIN" I can't with this line. It had me dying
"Puts you ahead in a landslide" you slide-og you
How can you have multiple strip mines in a deck or what can you use to get land out of the graveyard
I use Bazaar of Baghdad in my Muldrotha deck. It's pretty good!
Hey, that’s pretty good!
Sweet! Plus it's fun to just use expensive old cards sometimes
@@NitpickingNerds yeah, its my bling deck, but not my most powerful one (to your point on power level vs real world value)
I have a Bazaar of Bagdad in my Karador dredge deck. It's pretty good, always happy to topdeck it, very combo heavy. 8-9 power level. Best card in deck? No, but rock solid. Especially with Reanimates, Animate deads... etc
Serra's Sanctum combos nicely with enchanted evening
I checked and you are RIGHT!!!!!
"Black is not really about big mana" - Nerds
Bubbling muck would like a word
Please do a half serious shorts about the top 6 basic lands
"Top 6 Basic Lands" Is that the most clickable title or the least clickable title ever?
Island is the entire top 6
*11 including snow... If snow is basic I can't remember
Well wastes and snow so top 11
Point of order: there are planeswalkers which can be your commander, so it is possible, but not likely to build a creatureless deck.
You are pretty much right about bazaar. It's not that great in pretty much anything besides dredge but if you have a ton of dredgers in your deck you just draw like 14 cards each turn instead of 1
Curious to know, where would Vesuva be on your ranking?
Proxied a Bazaar of Baghdad for my cEDH Anje. It was just okay. I beleive you guys are right
So sad I sold my old city of brass about 15 years ago when I was a kid and had no idea how good it was :P loved the original art too :(
Really surprised lake of the dead did not make into this list
This video is completely insane
TELL ME ABOUT IT
I would say Bazaar is exceptionally good in *any,* recursion deck. It's just cost prohibitive for most decks because it's like a 3000 dollar card
Glacial Chasm is a good land in land decks too.
What's amazing to me is that, despite running nearly all of the multi-mana lands, rituals and abusing Phyrexian mana, K'rrik manages to be just one of many solid Commander decks, rather than the juggernaut it looks like on paper. Still loooove it though!
Urborg combos with karma and a way to return it to hand, like trade routes.
Idea for the next video:
Best colorless lands (field of the dead!!!)
Best lands that make 2/2 zombies, coming in at number one we have DUNES OF THE DEAD
@@NitpickingNerds imagine if it made grave titans!
@@NitpickingNerds 9
I'm pretty sure that because of the wording of "Pay 1 life" is different than "deal's one damage to you", you can circumvent the damage with a card like Archon of Coronation but you would still lose the 1 life if you paid it. They're technically the same thing most of the time but you can get around the 1 damage but you can't get around the paying the life
Mystic Sanctuary is a house in my Elsha of the Infinite deck. I can rip that card off the top over and over again.
Bazaar is pretty good in reanimator and dredge decks. I had it in my Gitrog deck for a while and it was really really good. Is it worth it to just get and play in one deck? No. But if you happen to have one or your group allows you to use a proxy, it is an amazing card.
Thank you!!! Yes, I absolutely can’t stand Gaea’s Cradle in EDH. It’s a card I will complain about when people proxy it.
Card should 100% be banned in commander
Alchemist’s Refuge is my all time favorite land. The ability to flash out a big spell before my turn starts changes the game.
Let me flash out this Tooth and Nail and then cast Expropriate on my turn.
Am currently considering trading on some cards to get my first Gaea’s Cradle. Decisions decisions. 🤔. Excellent work as always gents.
Ooo, good luck if you decide to! Just remember when you put it into a deck you can have upwards of 5 copies with tutors
Where would Tolarian Academy rank if it could be ranked?
#1, we think it’s a little bit better than Cradle
I own a few gaeas cradle a few of them but it so much fun when other folks play it I steal it, destroy it. Under rated tactic land control.
Not to brag but I got a Magus of the Bazaar with Bazaar of Baghdad writing over the card. I might put it in my Gitrog at some point.
That’s a sexy proxy
Allright, let me get another crack at predicting this list (in no particular order):
1. Ancient Tomb
2. Gaea’s Cradle
3. Serra’s Sanctum
4. Strip Mine / Wasteland
5. Field of the Dead
6. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
7. Cabal Coffers and Urborg (got a hunch you guys will put these together, idk)
8. City of Brass/Mana Confluence
9. Bazaar of Baghdad
10. Command Tower
11. Myriad Landscape (real iffy about this one but it’s soooo good in lower powered decks)
12. The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
13. Mishra’s Workshop
14. Prismatic Vista
15. Phyrexian Tower (probably too specific but I know you guys won’t put maze of ith here so I had to find a 15th card 😅)
Let’s see how many I get right! :)
You seriously got like almost all of them! DANG
That was a really good list just nit in the right order
@@NitpickingNerds yeah I didn’t feel like ranking them 😅. I’m actually quite surprised myself how many I got right lol
I'm a fan of deserted temple, untaps my other specially lands
What about Vesuva, it can be any one of those.
It's a good land for sure, but it's not like Clone is one of the best creatures
Sakashima of a thousand faces might be one of the best though. Vesuva can copy legendary lands ;)
I would argue that Cabal Coffers is better than Nyxthos because it allows for better recovery from things like board wipes because it only requires your lands to be on the field. Other than that great list guys. Thanks.
My friend plains urborg in a mono white deck to use the black hate cards in white
Karma
@@pauljimerson8218 yep that one i think
Mana Confluence might be slightly better than City of Brass because City of Brass will still do damage to you if tapped for black mana using Urborg’s ability
That’s what I thought, also if someone uses a spell to tap it you take damage from city of brass
But if you're at a negative life total, you can't use Mana Confluence! I love these corner case scenarios
I think this video was made after The World Tree was created and was wondering if it came up or just thoughts regarding it.
Mana confluence is better than city of brass because city of brass hits you for just tapping. An opponent could tap and untap your land and kill you with that, while mana confluence doesn't have that. Even more if you have urborg or chromatic lantern you can use mana confluence without paying life.
Dang, i used to have a couple workshops... Wiah i still did.
29:25 Oh? I run my Cradle in a creatureless deck (excl Commander) and it is still BROKEN lol
I did brew up a creatureless lands-matter deck and I would still play it because of Field of the Dead lolol
@@NitpickingNerds sounds like that still works to get 20+ mana off of Cradle
Tabernacle is just around 2000 Euros in Europe if you go for a lightly played italian one. For 5000 USD i would expect an english one in quite a nice condition.
I don't get the vitriol for cabal coffers.
Gaea's cradle, serra's sanctum and other are just as bad but don't get the same flack. Why this be?
I feel similarly about Cradle and Coffers. Sanctum is a bit different but still in the same vein. Don't like em at all :P
Urborg + filth I also use Urborg in elesh norn and kormus bell
Been playtesting bazaar and I think when you want it, it's only okay
Kinda sad Yavimaya, cradle of growth didn't even get a mention...
I mean It's just a green version of Urborg but man I have seen it do some work especially if your playing with Timber Protector and Ashaya, soul of the wild. I've seen this thrown in an Omnath locus of creation deck along with tons of ways to tutor for creatures and lands to bring them out and always be hitting your landfall triggers.
but what about grave titian and gaea's cradle?
I can name every single one of them! and YOU could, too! Hang out in the discord, espacially VC to be part of the process! Its amazing! (Disclaimer: sadly i dont get paid to advertise, im just simping. The discord IS objectively great though). Join now!!!
This guy gets it!
Best CZcams ad I've ever seen
Guys have you considered Glacial Chasm? :)
It's so dirty.
One of my favorite tricks is to fetch it with crop rotation while being attacked.
It's powerful enough to see play in vintage/legacy lands and it's also only a few bucks. Not enough people know about it!
Shhhhhhhhhh don’t tell them
Glacial Chasm is $6.
Also it is lame.
I’m going all out in modifying my krenko mob boss mono red deck
Mishras workshop to drop a rock, rock to drop the ring. 6 mana turn 2
I go infinate with a bounce land- Kodama- and a token maker (field of the dead)
City of Brass works with yasharn out. It also works with Phyexian unlife/solemnity combo. Mana confluence does not.
My now fantasy is going Mishras workshop in sol ring and a signet into mana crypt and then into a unwinding clock and or vedalken orrery
Top 10-20 MUST include budget lands for budget decks. The best of the best in the .1-5$ range
It's ironic the Tabernacle gets worse as you climb the power levels, but then you hit cEDH and it's great in non green decks at shutting down dorks
Command tower does not need to be banned. That’s a crazy suggestion.
So with how much you guys hate on the reserve list would you guys ever consider making lists of strong cards without reserve list cards, or reserve list cards as honorable mentions, or maybe splitting the list in two, or naming more non-reserve list cards as honorable mentions (or something to this effect)?
Well the issue is that we have take the format as it is. Though we aren’t fans of certain thing doesn’t mean they aren’t part of the format.
@@NitpickingNerds I guess? It's just that a large chunk of several mtg videos (not just you guys) is spent talking about cards most people don't play (and can't play). I think it makes a lot of videos a lot less helpful for a general audience.
(Just food for thought).
You're welcome for that Gaea's Cradle, BZ
YOU IDIOT I MADE SO MUCH MONEY!!! Also thank you
As always i feel that alot of edh players undervalues scavenger grounds. Now im not saying its top 15 but 16 yes sir, it fits in any nongraveyard deck, can be used more then once with a little build around at little to no cost. Bazaars a strong 17 tho
what about exotic orchard?
He said the land he's discussing after Cabal Coffers was the next best thing to cabal coffers. So that means he should have ranked it worse, not better..
Strip Mine/ Muldrotha, the Gravetide.....
Poor fetchlands cycle, not strong enough individually like the Serra's Sanctum/Gaea's Cradle/Phyrexian Tower cycle :P
I'm actually kinda curious to see Mishra's Workshop in action, because at first glance it seems like the build-around cost is too high for just one extra mana than Ancient Tomb.
If you’re an artifact deck then it’s too good
with city of brass some one can turnabout you to death. and with a world tree, urborg or yavimaya cradle it will still dmg you.
I have a bazaar of bagdad. You ranked it right. I only use it in 1 deck.
Hooray! That's what we thought
Field of the dead for mono color is pretty much limited to mono green eldrazi. The amount of good colorless non basics is pretty nuts.
Oh, you have a City of Brass? Say hello to my Rishidan Port.
