- A magnitude 5.0 quake hit Gauteng at 2.38am on Sunday morning. People woke to heavy shaking and rumbling, with some damage reported on the East Rand. The US Geological Survey says it struck about 10 kilometres below the surface. It places the epicentre around Katlehong on the East Rand. Willem Meintjes from the Council for Geoscience has more. #dstv403
I felt it very well and I thought it was like a dream but I couldn't managed to run..... May God protect us my fellow brothers and sisters....
🙏 🙏 🙏 JESUS
Hope everyone is ok. It's shocking to hear that it's an actual earthquake and not a tremor.
Nothing shocking about it. There are earthquakes every few years in SA.
Let's hope worse doesn't come. Gauteng is at risk of quakes because of its history of mines
Earthquakes caused by mines are small. Much smaller than this.
@@cccmmm1234I think what the person was trying to say is, because there's tunnels underneath the earth as a result of mining, if earthquakes were to happen frequently it might end up collapsing the tunnels which would result in buildings caving in to the ground 😅
Very true, mining increases the risks to the damages incurred to buildings, even if protocols to building structures are followed.
Don't forget the zama zamas, they are very active in Gauteng
There was an aftershock at 10:27 in our area Dalview this morning
Load shedding during the interview
Government was like " we run the show here " 😂😂😂😂 .
This woman is so intent on preaching fear .
If anything check yourself are you ready to meet Jesus ?
This ought to be a wake up call and reminder how easily we can be taken out , we go to sleep not even thinking we could not wake up , be not troubled but allow it to evoke your thoughts
Jesus is part of the problem
That's what I just said to my grandma now, that we forgot how powerful God is... This world would end so easily
@@josephinenanikietsepetsi1637 yeah so powerful that if you don't let him save you from the things that he's going to do to you when you don't allow him to save you he'll send earthquakes to show you how loving he is.... your logic is amazingly Christian.

After i hear the sound i work up and pray during earth quake antil it passes God bless South Africa 🇿🇦

Feeling the earth shake like that was crazy-scary 😱
Glad it was only minor
Once more I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land, and I will shake all the nations(Haggai 2:6-7)
I was awake when this happened. When I googled earthquake I saw that it was not only us. Italy, Mexico, the Philippines, Alaska etc, also experienced it. This was definitely not a wave. It was a shake
Wow!🙊
A Mexican wave 👋 😂
Calm down people 😂

Ma’am News Reporter… please calm down. THIS IS NOT A ‘DISASTER’ as you say. It was only an ‘EVENT’. It is like comparing heart palpitations to a heart attack. No need to be so sensational.

We had an aftershock in boksburg at about 8 this morning
There was another aftershock around 10am as well.
We felt a form of something like thundering in Pretoria. It lasted for a second.
I felt it too I woke up got out of bed to check what was happening
Same in the south of Johannesburg.
Same
I did not feel the shaking, but was woken by the dogs and hadidas!
It lasted between 25 yo 28 seconds in Alberton.
I felt it too.. I thought i had a bad dream, but then boom 💥 it was real...This was not the first time in our area ,it happened twice before but this one was a bit unique. We indeed appreciate the goodness of the Lord, He protected us 😢as nothing worse happened
I was so scared I thought the floor under my bed was gonna crack n I'd fall in eath's hole😭
We can't keep the lights on, now the government "needs to make contingency plans for earthquakes..." 😂😂😂
I wonder if those broken hijacked buildings by the Nigerians are still standing🤔
I was literally awake rebuking it at 2am when this happened waking up everyone. Man that was frightening
Amen

That was scary
Fr though, that was scary
Rebukung it lol
In the Goldfields in the Free State there have tremors and quakes for many years due mining activaties. 1976 if I can remember in Welkom when I was in School the was a earth quake that happened and there was a 5 story flat that collapsed 30 min later, luckly there was no one in those flats at the time it occured. The buildings in that city are not built high because of those tremors.I dont live there anymore so I think they sometimes still get them.
I remember that
Yes, I remember Welkom and a entire apartment block came down!
People should start praying..and move toward god❤

Our governmunt cannot even cope with extreme flooding. Take KZN for example.

Here in Chile this is very mild we are used to 6 and more at any given time. In 2018 while working outside you could actually see how the earth roll like waves in the sea does.
Endtimes people ...God is warning us...Jesus is coming back...one day....very very soon...!
For the first time, I was scared to live on the top floor of my building 😮💨.
Tell me about it. I was ready to relocate right there and then
If your building was built before 1994, you should be ok
@FLOR REAL There was no development in my area before '94 so I'm not sure why I would trust apartheid considering bombs and commercial planes were falling from the sky back then.

Should we blame the anc.
Yeah, they didn't mobilise enough to be able to detect it

Joke is circulating saying the Government will spend R1Bn to probe this earthquake. Twitter is on fire.
I think we should. 😂
😂
Thank you Faith for asking the questions you did. As I could fully tell, you know there will not be any tsunami waves in Jnb area, but you were trying to let everyone know, and for this guy to make us aware what to be aware off and what we should do depending on region we are in. Unfortunately it seemed that he could not give a good answer to that. So hopefully most people along coast will know when to expect a tsunami I must listen again what advise he offered for us at home
There is no tsunami coming from such a weak earthquake so far inland.
Watch for a tsunami in Boksburg lake people - focus and don't be caught napping! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The building shook scarily, checked the time was 2:39 .
… and then she goes further to stress about Tsunamis. Please give this woman some to calm down. 🙄

There was an earthquake centred in Tulbagh Western Cape in 1969 ,felt around the country. 6.3 on the Richter Scale.
Earthquakes are not unheard of in SA.
This lady is a little uninformed, and being a bit dramatic.
And only earthquakes in the oceans generate tsunamis.
This presenter really needs to do some research...
I felt it too at the exact same time in pta. And it wasn't the first one. It's the third one I felt here.
You can never get used to this quakes. Believe me I've been there South East Asia it's a normal thing but always a shock....
I was terrified.
Shudder to think what the people felt in Turkey. The loss of life is staggering.

They fall down without there even being an earthquake,
How can we prepare our houses for earthquakes?

It was verry scarry, my whole apartment building was shaking and dogs were barking NON-STOP for 20 minutes straight and children were also crying for about 13 minutes, my table almost fell over and I live on the 2nd floor, I fell off my bed while in a sleeping bag because it was verry cold but before the earthquake I heard whispering that weren't human I didn't know what to do or what to say when I woke up while lying upside down on the ground
I think she needs to calm down. I remember SA experienced an Earthquake in 2015 as well. No need to worry.
Woke up with a bit of shaking. Went back to sleep.
Heard it in roodepoort sounded like a fright train lasted for approximately 10-20seconds round about 4am actually had my earphones on and removed them when i felt it so was felt at the lightest at least before i could hear it but the sound was strange
It must have been a different earthquake. 4am is too late for the same earthquake.

"sTaNd"
evacuation of residents is very important for now...experts must be deployed to the affected areas for further analysis
How do we determine that this was a main quake, and not the precursor (or fore-shock) for a bigger quake?
There is no way to know if it is a preshock to a larger EQ. However that would not be likely in Jhb because that's not what normally happens there.

There have been earthquakes in South Africa for years. 2020 Cape Town had two earthquakes, on saturday night and again Sunday morning in September. Seriously lady, do your homework about earthquakes in South Africa. It is embarrassing that you as a reporter haven't done your homework before this interview. Gau teng does not have an ocean so your question about tsunami is ridiculous. You are creating such panic for your viewers. There are fault lines all over the country. The sad thing is in 2020 when we had the earthquakes, I could not get hold of anyone at the Council of Geoscience. I had to go onto youtube and the USA Geoscience site already had it recorded with all the details.
She's ridiculously daft... painful to watch
No, no, no! She is not saying Gauteng is on the coastal line. She said places on the coastal line and obviously we know which ones are those. She is not interviewing based on Gauteng only. This is a South African broadcasting station even international news we get from them. Let us just be careful of our usage of language. There is no way she can be in front of that screen without preparing. She knew before me and you who she is going to interview and plus she does receive guidance as she speaks which questions to ask.
@@dimakatsotlaka7754 She's not the first reporter to sound like she doesn't know anything. Internationally there are many who have asked dumb questions. Gauteng is too far from the coastline to even ask such a question. Even an earthquake in PMB would be too far to create a tsunami. Anyone with a grade 10 should know tsunami's are created by earthquakes in the ocean itself. She also very clearly was fear mongering. There was little to no real damage or injuries yet she called it a natural disaster something that reporters are taught to not do without having confirmation. It's an event not a disaster.
sherri, of course the USA Geoscience had all the info, them and their tentacles are responsible for the event and events
Yes really, tsunami's! This a little of an overreaction.
Earthquakes will happen more frequently now. Australia Melbourne had one recently. They too were shocked to had one.
Rubbish. Stop causing panic.
Yeah it may be because of the solar storms. I remember reading or hearing that the Sun can trigger these things but I can be corrected. The first one I felt was about 4years ago here in pretoria there was antother one earlier this hear too.

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
