So in this video we show you the proper procedures to replace the clutch on this 2002 Yamaha Raptor 660. The steps shown will be similar for all year Raptor 660's but check your OEM service manual if you are unsure.

    Great tutorial, but you forgot the part where you over tighten the clutch case bolts and shear them in half flush with the frame, so you spend $19.99 at tractor supply for a speed out kit only for it to do absolutely nothing so you attempt to drill out the old bolts and re tap them but you accidentally drill too far in at a bad angle and penetrate the cylinder so you buy some high temp rtv silicone and smear it all over a new bolt and try to keep everything air and oil right, but upon running you know it’s messed up so you try to open it back up only to realize that that fancy silicone is harder than JB weld after it gets hot so you shear the bolt again so you throw a wrench at the case only for it to ricochet back and hit you in the face breaking your nose so you go to urgent care and get 4 stitches and a lecture from your girlfriend on anger management so you decide to sell your beloved rappy and buy your gf a ring since she really cares about your well-being only to find out she been cheating on you for the last 6 months so now you’re out 1 broken piece of shit and a beautiful raptor 660. Luckily I’ve gone through the trouble of completing this step in my comment, so don’t sweat it!

    So tell me how did your clutch grip when you remove the spring? Because I just followed every bit of your instructions and my clutch is not grabbing now because I don’t have the spring in there

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 4 lety

      Our clutch worked great. The judder spring helps to smooth clutch engagement as you release the clutch. It won't change anything when the lever is fully released, so I would look for your problem elsewhere. Are you using the same clutch kit as us? Is the adjustment correct? What about the last friction disc installed? Did you use the one with a larger inside diameter? Is the pressure plate lined up correctly? Let us know what you find or if you have any other questions.

      It won't shift even if you rock the machine back and forth? What are the fluid levels like? If you remove the timing cover on the side of the engine, can you rotate the engine over? There's a lot of things that could be wrong, you might have to take it to a shop. -Charles

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 4 lety +1

      It is a little difficult to see but if you look at 6:19 in this video you should be able to see the plate on the top is just slightly smaller (bigger inside diameter) than the plate below it. If you hold them up to each other it should be more clear in person when comparing the plates to each other.

    • @holeshot1721
      @holeshot1721 Před 3 lety

      Im installing this now and can clearly tell that a few plates are big nd few plates are small and from what im getting is that a smaller diamter plate is actully the bigger plate, & the bigger plate is actully the smaller diameter plate! Nd to make sure that the smaller diamter plates which are bigger plates go in first and last!!

    Oh Come on, this is exactly what I am doing I need to know how much indent is acceptable and when you need to change the basket and hub. I can see some indent on yours I think I have about the same amount of indent but you didn't do a close up video of the problem. WHY ?????

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 4 lety +1

      Technically, if you see any wear on the hub or basket, you would want to replace them. Realistically though, you aren't going to replace the basket or hub if they aren't causing a noticeable problem, so you will have to use your own judgement. A basket or hub that has deep grooves will keep the clutch from fully disengaging, causing the machine to creep forward even though the clutch lever is pulled all the way in and adjusted correctly. Warped plates could also cause this, so check for bluing on them, if they are fine, then the problem is most likely with the basket. A good test would be to take a new friction disc and slide it in the basket and see if it catches, then do the same thing with a steel plate to the hub. I'm sure you've figured out your problem by now, but hopefully this helps someone else.
