    We have worked for atleast an hour trying to get the DRUM ERROR off, even after resetting the drums, it still would not work. I was about to order a new printer BROTHER MFC9330CDW when I caught your video. It seemed too easy to actually work..haha!! My employee acted like I shouldn't even try it, but since I had Q-TIPS here I thought, why not?? SO I DID...AND IT WORKED!!!! JUST WIPING THE CORONA WIRES OFF WITH A DRY QTIP MADE THE DRUM ERROR MESSAGE GO OFF!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks Matthew - at first this worked but then shortly after the error came back. Second time around I could not get it to work, but using your recommendation I decided to try a clean paint brush, figuring I'm going to have to buy new stuff anyway...sure enough, if the cotton doesn't work, the paint brush does. So I'm keeping a clean paint brush next to the printer for future maintenance. Wouldn't have thought of it without your video...

      I've not quite completely figured out the corona wire. It's darn tricky. I'll try the brush next time. Seems you can have a very good looking drum that simply doesn't like to take a charge anymore. Really appreciate the tip with a paint brush that's really smart :)

  • @MakingEndsMeet_JudysStopNShop

    Thank you! Great video! I just cleaned my drum (large green roller barrel slowly turning it to find the spots) with my eye glass cleaner & Q-tips and was careful not to have excess cleaner on the Q-tip and was very patient and gentle AND IT WORKED!!! My printed documents went from having black spots all over it to just 1 and I will be working on that one next 🎉🎉😊👍

    Thank you. I bought this brother printer some years ago thanks to your helpful videos and they continue to help every time it gets stuck! This time the green tab wasn't doing it for the drum and indeed it was a bit of muck on one of the corona wires :-)

  • @maryw9308
    @maryw9308 Před 2 lety

    thanks for the information here. I wound up having to put the old Brother cartridges back into the drum assembly and went back and forth over the corona wire a couple of times and that reset the drum error message. I read somewhere that replacement toner cartridges (that's what we had in ours) don't have a chip so there's no way for the printer to know that the corona wire has been cleaned. Not sure this is the case, as the corona wire and drum assembly are a separate component from the toner cartridge, but this worked for me. Thanks again.

    Denatured Alcohol is the best. Leaves no residue at all. I just bought a mfc-l8900cdw. Will get it Tuesday. I have worked on Toshiba and Okidata Monochrome and color printer for the last 2 years. Some will allow you to reset them in the control panel, others have fuses on the drum or cartridge that must short out to reset the internal counters. I am curious as to how Brother deals with this.

    Hi Matthew. Thank you for a thorough tutorial. I'm struggling with my MFC-9130CW. I've replaced the drums; I've cleaned the LED emitters (as you demonstrated); I've changed ink and done all the "internal" diagnostics. I'm still getting very strange lines across the page. I do not know what else to do other than buy another printer (which I don't want to do). Any other ideas?

    I hope that you can help me with my MFC-9340CDW. My printer will not complete a page but it stops advancing the paper and gives a paper jam error. I can pull out the almost completely printed page with some resistance but it will do the same thing again. I don't even know how to remove the side covers to see it there is something stuck in the gears.

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  Před 9 měsíci

      I'd pull the toner w/ drums, the waste toner (below that) and the fuser (back panel) and see if somethings caught up in there. Sounds like it's stopping before it gets to the fuser? If so the toner can whipe off page (I think). Hopefully that helps sorry I don't know a lot more. I kind of just fiddled with mine and saved my notes to CZcams.

      glad I could be of help :) I was able to about double the life of my drums by cleaning them. I have since found that compressed air bottles work best to clean them. You want to be VERY careful about applying any solutions including rubbing alcohol (use as very last resort). They actually make a solution specifically for cleaning these drums (I cannot recall what it's called). The trouble with solutions is over time you will see a residue build up on the drum and it will become completely non-usable. At that point you have to find the appropriate solution for cleaning drums.

      +Gb Xx hard to say exactly as I reset the drums. Since then Ive gone through another two cases of printer paper so at least 10,000 pages. Id have an exact count however, I reset the drums so Im really not sure at this point. I had to replace one of the drums as the Corona wire went completely bad and wouldt even clean. I simply bought a HL-3140 and cannibalized it. It was slightly more expensive than a set of toner cartridges and I got the whole printer for spare parts :)
