    Spirits of Music is an unusual musical journey through the centuries, with stops on all continents. Inspired by their creators' different faiths, the works on the program have a strong religious background and are moving examples of the emotional power and effect of music. Internationally renowned soloists and ensembles as Bobby McFerrin (a ten-time Grammy Award winner, he is one of the world’s best-known vocal innovators and improvisers, a world-renowned classical conductor), Nigel Kennedy (one of the world’s leading violin virtuosos), Sibylla Rubens (has emerged as one of the most compelling lyric sopranos of her day) or the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig will perform popular works from the European music tradition, encompassing Bach, Mozart and Verdi. Many magnificent examples of religious music come from artists as Kroke (playing and composing with the realm of authentic Jewish music), the Kuumba Singers (dedicated to the expression of black creativity and spirituality through song), Mari Boine (one of the most impressive folk artists of contemporary time), the Bulgarian Voices Angelite (24 women whose hypnotic chant circles the globe), Vocal Sampling (a Cuban six-man a cappella group which has been described as one of the wonders of the musical world) and the Ensemble Al-Kindi (is currently rated among the best formations devoted to classical Arab music). With the inclusion of world music, the program will achieve a highly suspenseful juxtaposition of European and non-European music.

    Nigel doesn't know, he introduced me to classical music many years ago. He didn't even imagine how much love him for that reason. By the way, one of my favorite pieces.

    Great tempo. Extraordinarily expressive and moving.
    I spent a beautiful summer day in Leipzig once when my bike went kaput in Torgau and I had a day spare while it was being repaired. White-hot! Wish I had been there when this was played.

    Erbarme dich
    Erbarme dich, mein Gott,
    Um meiner Zähren willen!
    Schaue hier, Herz und Auge
    Weint vor dir bitterlich.
    Erbarme dich, mein Gott
    Ten piedad
    ¡Ten piedad, Dios mío,
    de mí, por mis lágrimas!
    Mira, mi corazón y mis ojos
    Lloran por ti amargamente.
    ¡Ten piedad, Dios mío!

  • @unwaitheto
    @unwaitheto Před 4 lety +2

    The odd world of commericialised classical music: this should be a DUO between SOLO VIOLIN and VOICE. Obviously Nigel didn't want attention diverted from him towards a singer with WORDS -- so an oboist is employed who plays 'second fiddle' here. Same thing in reverse with Nathalie Stultzman's recording of the same piece: in hers, the voice is all and poor violinist doesn't even get listed. The problem with celebrities: they don't want to share!

    • @frogmouth
      @frogmouth Před 3 lety +3

      The violin is listed in Stutzmann's recording It' s Satome Watanabe.

      @frogmouth Před 3 lety +3

      I have just learned with great grief the passing away of Satomi Watanabe, a wonderful person and a talented violinist who made numerous concerts with me and Orfeo 55. She had particularly beautifully interpreted the solo of Erbarme Dich in our recording for Deutsche Grammophon.
      Thank you, Satomi, for having shared such musical emotions with us. Rest In Peace, we will never forget you.2019 announcement from Stutzmann

      I have to say I dont agree with you here, from my experience Nigel is incredibly humble and also has a great care towards the ochestra and other musicians he plays alongside, very much working with them with respect, rather than in competition, his only concern is the music.

      @sevtaptincer8194 Před 3 lety +1

      I listened to different renditions of this aria without VOICE and believe me, many of them are more to the point. When the violin dominates, the music strikes even more.
