Thank goodness for people like Nigel Kennedy - its so special t- someone who has such an innate, natural and genuine love for the violin/ music
Saw him at a jazz club in Birmingham. They had double booked him with a real old time trad jazz band. They had a chat and the band started playing and Nigel joined in. I thought he would take over but he let all the band have solos and did not take over as I thought he might. A wonderful gig.
😊
Such a fantastic down to earth incredibly talented gentleman! Love him!!
My beautiful daughter and I witnessed Nigel's performance of Walton's Violin Concerto, at Sheffield Town Hall, around 1986
The maverick of the violin
Got to see Nigel perform Sibelius 30+ years ago. Amazing. His encore was Hendrix’s Purple Haze. Still feels like yesterday.
We loooove Nigel...he is Angel !😊
I am very happy to play meny concerts with him, years ago.
I really like his rendition of Bach concertos with Berlin Philharmonic.🎶👍🎶👍
I met him in Auckland New Zealand about 20 years ago. Very interesting guy indeed.
Find his Elgar Violin Concerto from the Proms with the BBC CO. SENSATIONAL
What a top bloke.
Nigel is the best, Vivaldi's four seasons, great!!!!
Nigel lived in malvern and met him a few times and saw him play at the theatre. He also played violin beautifully on one of my fave kate Bush songs 'The fog' no airs n graces. A charming guy🎶
❤ from Poland.
Most wonderful concert we enjoyed in Qatar , didn't want the evening to end , such a varied choice of music and so entertaining. Feel very privileged
I was at Strasbourg conservatory for twelve years, first in the singing class, and then in the double-bass class for nine years. What constantly put me off was the different biases teachers had and the snobbery many would display at the mentioning of certain composers or musical genres. For a simple student, even an adult student, knowing about a composer whom the teacher you happen to be talking to doesn't know is a mortal sin, and they frown and wave you off impatiently. If you even speak the words 'heavy metal', you are moved to the no-no list in many teachers' minds. I once talked about an Australian composer in the rest room to my analysis teacher and a few other students from the analysis class. They were very interested, but a couple of other teachers who were having their break immediately started displaying exagerated reactions and talking rubbish like 'An Australian composer? Is there even such thing?', 'What does he mean by going all the way round the world?', 'What's that got to do with us?'. The analysis teacher, who was much more open minded to such things, just gave them a disappointed look and then they were even more indignant. 'Well maybe there are composers over there and they might even be good for all we know, but it's the other side of the planet and it has nothing to do with what we do here!' They weren't even in on the conversation, but they couldn't stand people knowing things they didn't know even though they were conservatory professors. Apart from that, there were whole categories of composers who were not to be mentioned and who were considered 'not grand repertoire', and therefore they were to be ignored. 'Well yes, his pieces are very nice to listen to, very well written and with interesting technical challenges, but if you play that at an exam, some jury members will not like it and they will ask you why you chose that piece'. Working with a particular teacher means adopting that teacher's biases and prejudices and staying within those limits. What kind of training and studying is that?
I'm really glad to hear Nigel Kennedy talk about the importance of being open minded and not limiting yourself to a particular kind of music. I think he really has the right idea.
He's not just my favourite violinist he's the only one I know. Then again I've heard of Vanessa Mae too so he's now my second favourite.
Really liked the Hendrix rendering!
Brilliant 🎻 violinist.
😊
Was last night on concert in Krakow. I am speechless. Guy is just brillinat. He's amazing.
Wonderfully talented and wonderfully modest. Top man.
Love Nigel!
What a delightful person!
Uwielbiam go od dziecka. Jak tylko usluszalam jak gra 4 pory
Loving the Zep cross reference.
Teacher: did you rosin your bow?
Kennedy: no i need MORE 😂
Its hot. A hoy mate. There is a hot hit!
I love you Kennedy
Wish everyone was so lovely like Nigel
I saw him many many years ago
In Nottingham
Such a talented nice man xxxx
Nobody uses the universal language of the Cosmos more perfectly than Nigel Kennedy
Nigel is a wonderful violinist and a wonderful and funny person!
❤❤❤
Saw Nigel & also Stephane in concerts many yrs ago in NZ. Loved Nigel’s gig, he stomped out the timing with his Doc Martens on stage. So modest, genius.
Nigel is a legend
indeed
Top man
Мой любимый скрипач❤
Omg he's absolutely amazing, met him a couple of times and attended 2 concerts. The last one in Malvern was OUT OF THIS WORLD !
Met him in the 90’s when playing at Glastonbury. Lovely guy and an unbelievable musician but he is absolutely bonkers!
the rosin is getting me
He also rosins his violin as well!
😂
He is so amazing
Tilling up, high. This is s cool jive.
They make power! It rocks. It is rocky@
Chug chug!
Supremely talented Musician, followed him for year's, very modest individual, rock on NK❤
Me too.
nigel kennedy is my hero ! Matur suksma sir😊😊🎉
salam dari pulau Bali❤
There's no such thing as " Britain's Favourite Violinist" but he's arguably the best known. He's a solid, serious musician whose been ploughing his own furrow for a few decades now. In the present climate it took real balls for him to publicly criticise the British orchestra Chinake for their original stated policy of employing only black/ ethnic minority musicians.
Stood in the toilet at Villa park some years ago! This bloke stood next to me,Without thinking i said ' we need to play better in the second half,he agreed and we had a quick chat, he turned around and i realised it was Nigel Kennedy! 😊😊😊
UTV
He should stay in the toilet, where he belongs.
He can play any kind of music. Been a fan for many years.
yes he is amazing🎉
Badly.
@@seriousoldman8997 Not in everyone's opinion.
@@leestamm3187 Playing jazz requires a lifetimes' dedication. As a lifetime jazz musician I can tell and it makes me vomit.
@@seriousoldman8997 Listen to whatever you like. Others have the same option. Incidentally, Grappelli thought he was pretty good.
Pow man!
Pah pah its power shiggy!
He needs to clean the Rosin dust on his Violin.
Couldn't believe he handed his Strad to a non player for a laugh.
I wondered what happened to him
He was brilliant
Kennedy at his Brilliant Best 🙂I loved the moment he introduced Jeff Beck RIP 🎸at the Proms ROYAL ALBERT HALL in 2008 to play Hills of Saturn !! so much joy just thinking about it🙏
Don't get me wrong - I love John Lydon to bits... but Nigel is the real deal. Attitude WITH supreme talent
He likes his rosin!
Amazing artist! But I’m always confused about his violin, so dirty! I have always been told to keep my violin clean, remove excess rosin from the violin body and from the strings after each practice session .
Obviously you were told wrong. I once attended an informal recital with a cellist playing a very old and very expensive strad. The instrument looked like it had been living on the street for a long time. The sound was magnificent. Breathtaking.
@@poppyrowland1385 I don’t think I am wrong. That excess rosin is definitely bad, it will destroy the varnish. Surely that cello you are referring to wasn’t covered with rosin, and excess rosin on the strings will affect the sound, especially when playing p or pp.
I think you are right. Retired professional violinist here.@@eriknystrom5839
Nigel is such a nice guy, I would love if he play Lullibay for Kamila.
Absolutely love Nigel's work ethic, plus everything his violin produces.. 🎻 Fortunately he came to Hobart, Tasmania quite some years back, a most memorable evening ever.. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏🎻👏🇦🇺
Britains favourite violinist?
Oh yes!!!
Not mine! 😀 He's a fraud; a perfect example of bad marketing.
He was a perfectly adequate musician, till he decided that his USP would be looking like he got dressed out of a skip in the dark, and had given up washing.
He then dropped his posh boy accent, and affected an estuary accent, which has only got uglier over the years.
And there's the footy scarf, replacing the smart shirt and cuff links. Why would a posh boy from Brighton support a team nearly 200 miles away?
The icing on the cake is his gobshite political views, as expressed a few years ago. We can only hope that he's now seen sense.
What an inspirational treasure our Nige is !!! (not biased as another Nigel - I promise ha ha )
Hes been a forgotten man for years
He decided he didn't want to do the conventional classical music circuit any more, in particular because he was fed up with being a slave to the record companies. Since then, he has done a lot of jazz and jazz-inspired stuff. He has always been his own man, for better (mostly) or worse.
Love you Nige but please dust the rosin off that beautiful violin
Love Nigel Kennedy. So admire him for breaking through the elite, snobby and closed shop orchestral world. He opened it up to many young musicians to be themselves. Saw him in Brighton for a Jimmy Hendrix appreciation gig. He was fabulous.
It's an act. He's no less elite than anyone else. He's a posh boy from Brighton. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigel_Kennedy#Early_life_and_background
Here he is about 40 years ago, before he decided that the unwashed tramp look was good marketing. czcams.com/video/mS9ni8c_1XM/video.html
I am sure he left all that rosin there on the violin on purpose. It’s the music that’s more important to him, not the polished appearance, the clothes…
I bought two CD,S from Nigel Kennedy
The four seasons from Vivaldi’s
And Brahms.
What a kind person he is
I used to have the Brahms recording with the LPO on CD. I nearly wore
it out playing it.
Yes, i had that cassette tape some 30 years ago. In fact i heard the four seasons and Brahms violin concerto in D maj for the 1st time in my life of NK's version. Love from India 🇮🇳
Rosin Kennedy ⬜️
Nigel Kennedy is still alive? That's good to know. And he's remains a Villa fan! A good lad, a Holte Ender and a musical genius. Fabulous.
Looks like he hasn’t cleaned his violin since the 90’s.
Tf why is his violin covered in rosin.
Kind of David Garrett in the 80s.
Oh no! Jesus, no!!!
Nicola Benedetti is Britain’s favourite violinist
National Treasure 😊
Were Nigel and John Lydon seperated at birth?
Why so much rosin on the beautiful body of that violin …clean it please…does my head looking at it !
Somebody stole his rosin...seems neeed a little bit
Clean the rosin bro.
God,’still doin’ the mockney bit. Just like that grammar school boy Phil Tufnell. No doubting both their talents but why the front? It works the other way. You can get a stellar talented musician so introverted away from the stage , just exploding on the opening bars and blowing folk away. Not our Nige………man of da people ,in he? Bloody 4 seasons………again.
Really?
"Britain's favourite violinist" - Which organization conducted the survey, when were the votes cast, and what other violinists were on the list? Or could it be just hype! Photo shows a tailpiece without an adjuster for tuning the e string!
Britains' favourite violinist? I think not! A 65 year old teenager
Guy always looks like he needs a wash, gives me the creeps!
WOW Thats a criminal amount of ROSIN BUILD UP ALL OVER THAT VIOLIN😂😂
He's not my favourite violinist. What a stupid headline.
I'm sure you will find it hard to imagine, but there exists the possibility that you do not represent Britain.
He is a great violinist and musician but everyone is entitled to their own opinion
@@hb1338 Guess what - it's equally stupid to say that he *is* Britain's favourite anything. If you look through this thread, you will find other people objecting to that crass generalisation. Obviously you're entitled to your opinion, as long as you understand the difference between opinion and fact.
@TheSeafordian….who is your favourite violinist?
@@robinmcewan8473 He's a 'popular' violinist and musician, but not 'great', not by any stretch of the imagination.
The presenters performance was more enjoyable to be honest.
Is he drunk ?
A great violinist but not so great musician
You couldn’t be more wrong (from someone who has had the privilege of working with him)
@@robinmcewan8473 so have i
Just learned he’s woke. I’ve cancelled him . 😂
Can't stand that fake accent he's adopted. If you watch videos of him when he's a child prodigy you'll hear that he's actually quite 'posh'. He does seem to be 'Britains favourite violinist' amongst people who don't really like Classical Music.
He’s not even a good violinist. Except for the British, of course
and I suppose Julian Bream was not a great guitarist either - except of course for the British, You need to get over yourself!
Oh dear , I suggest that you listen to him playing Max Bruch 1990 on here (but no big fan of Bruch myself) it's beautiful !
He's not my favourite violinist. He plays well enough but he spoils it by spouting his oafish politics. He needs to shut up and play. We pay to listen to his playing, not his estuary accent and woke politics.
Agreed. The estuary accent is totally fake btw.
Fake accent? Cringe
