    It is an artistic interpretation as in most art. An interpretation of something that 'happened' 1500 years before and would probably have influences from the thinking at the time. Artists are not there to provide answers but questions. Here we are 500 or so years on still asking questions, just accept that he did his job well. Eye of the beholder............

    It is important for people to understand that painters are not always interested in creating paintings that are as lifelike as possible. Sometimes they make things up because they want to make a point. Writers and musicians do this, too. Novelists sometimes invent people and places in order to get their point across. Songwriters sometimes invent people and places in order to get their point across. That's what it means to be an artist. Leonardo was not interested in painting a historically accurate portrait. He was interested in having people study his paintings, notice the details and ask themselves what this or that means.

    This covered a few things I do not recall hearing before so that was cool, but this video also does not cover a bunch of other hidden symbolism and ideas. There are a couple of hidden images hidden within this painting that cannot have been done by mistake and in fact its said they cannot figure out how it is even possible for him to been able to create the hidden image within the painting without a computer or some technological aid. I have been looking for that same hidden image in other works of art and shockingly someone else found it in another painting and I found it also in one. It seems impossible yet there it is and the question is why. I would mention the last part, but people would just scoff and I would too if I heard someone say it. More research needs done.

    I think Da Vinci's painting of the Last Supper was just based on his imagination. The Upper Room where Jesus and his apostles had the last supper has no windows whatsoever. The room has only 2 doors and is about 1/4 the size of a basketball court. The table was made of some kind of solid concrete or masonry. Below the Upper Room is the tomb of King David. I know because I went there when I visited Jerusalem in 2014.

    • @Azabaxe80
      @Azabaxe80 Před rokem +2

      The room in the painting is based on the actual room the painting is displayed on. This is a mural painted right on the wall of a dining room in the monastery adjacent to Santa Marie delle Grazie church. The room itself had windows on the side. That's why the lighting (and shadows) on the painting is as such. On the other side of the wall was the kitchen, and the monks, not wanting to walk around from the side of the dining room to take their dirty plates to the kitchen (lazy jerks), built a door right where Jesus' feet were in the painting to go though, thus ruining a masterpiece. Again, the lazy jerks. That's why you see what seems like an arch right beneath the table. Front and center.
      I know all this because I was there two months ago. It's a magnificent picture. And it begs the question why DaVinci wasn't asked to do a painting for the church itself as opposed to a mural in the mess hall.

    • @RareVBlue
      @RareVBlue Před rokem +9

      How do you know that the room you visited in Jerusalem was the actual room and not just a fictional story added to a building to get pilgrims in the past and tourist in the modern era to visit? The Cenacle is just one of many places in Jerusalem that have claimed to have held the last supper. None have any credible proof of such an event. The phrase "upper room" exists in a few different places in the Bible. It is basically no different than telling someone to go to a room upstairs. They won't even allow archeologists to even acess the age of the Cenacle and they won't allow anyone to do any archaeological excavations around the structure to help date it. It is also a 'presumptive' tomb of David just like the Cenacle is considered 'the traditional' location of the last supper. But no evidence actually supports either claim. Biblical Texts say that the Tomb of David was in the city of David. It wasn't until centuries later that the Tomb of David was said to be on Mt. Zion. Then there is the issue with the location of the Biblical Zion vs. The modern day Mt. Zion. Biblical scholars say that the Biblical Zion was located on the hill east of the present day Mt. Zion. The present day Mt. Zion was only associated with its present location centuries later after the last supper was said to have taken place. Also, nowhere in the Bible does it give an actual location of the last suppers Cenacle. And literary sources, such as the anonymous pilgrim from Bordeaux and Egeria who associate the location of the Last Supper with Mount Zion, go back only to the fourth century C.E.
      Im not a religious person but I pay attention to details and discrepancy. In my opinion, the present day Cenacle is just a fictional tourist attraction and the building itself did not exist until the 4th or 5th century.

Why make the Apostles spend money if he could just make the food.

    No, this is not a photograph of the actual event…IF it ever occurred. This great masterpiece is da Vinci’s purpose in conveying a message he fully believed. When I look at this painting, at “John” specifically…I see a woman. There is simply no doubt it is a woman. If devout Christians insist that it is John, then they must admit that John was a transgender. HAHA. It is absolutely a woman. Is is Mary? Who knows? But then…who else could it have been? Please note….there is no chalice or cup or bowl….traditionally known as “The Holy Grail”…included in this painting. Where is it? All that said, this is a masterpiece of form, style, and perspective. Every character is portrayed with such great emotion. I think the restoration did it a lot of good. I hope to see it live some day.

No matter what you think it depicts or why you think DaVinci might have painted it that way, it doesn't actually mean anything with regards to the Bible story, it's not proof or disproof of anything it is just one artist's interpretation of religious beliefs and stories.

    He is symbolically representing the Gnostic text, which the movie, "The Di Vinci Code", also does. There are many ancient books that are not in the bible. The Book Of Mary, The Book Of Thomas for instance. The angle of " Mary Magdalene ", as depicted here by Di Vinci, as opposed to the angle of " Jesus " represents the Chalice. That they were married or mates. I do not believe in the Gnostic text, but some do. The Hebrew bible has 24 books, the Christian bible has 66 books, & the Catholic bible has 73 books. There are many other books not in any bible. Your faith is what you choose to believe.

A few days later, he is so completely forgotten, the high priests have to pay for someone to point him out to the guards. (Even though one might find him by asking for him by name - it isn't like he had a secret identity.)
    Let's not forget, too, that the gospels claim during his entire ministry, the high priests followed Jesus around to scoff at him as he preached and performed miracles. Any one of these priests claiming he had done something or some things wrong would be able later to identify him.

      Dear Markus, You were right. The figure to Jesus' right does look like a girl but the figure is not Mary Magdalene. In traditional Christian iconography, St John the Apostle is always represented as a beardless effeminate young man as he is in the Last Supper. Perhaps Sister Elizabeth didn't know that, but you do now. Thank you. Richard

    I have never understood the purpose of having Judas betray Jesus. I always thought that the Roman Army and the Sanhedrin already knew exactly who Jesus was and exactly what he looked like. They did NOT need Judas to identify him!!! The soldiers could simply have arrested Jesus even if Judas didn't even exist. I felt the way this played out was so stupid. Judas should have told the people who wanted him to turn him over "This so stupid... the Roman Army already knows who he is!!!!" I am NOT needed!!!! This dumb scenario does not have to play out. Leave me out of this!!!" And then just walk away!!!!! And Judas did not need those gold coins either. If Jesus gives him the power to turn water into fine wine he could start is own Wine Factory and make a tremendous amount of money!!! So money is not an issue!!!

In bible it is said that john is the one who stayed close to Jesus while receiving the bread from him. It is also said that when Jesus talked about betrayal Peter asked john in sign language to ask Jesus who the betrayer is… so obviously it is john.
