I love that Make A Wish is adamant about every kid receiving their own wish.
666 likes no comments? Lemme fix that.
It's also a good protocol to make sure the kid isn't being heavily influenced by the parents. That would've made the system easy to trick by horrible selfish parents or people posing as them to get free stuff.
@@sundalosketch4769 yeah, there will always be some parents that will just be like, âmy sonâs dying wish is that we get new furniture, get a plumber to fix our pipes and a free trip to a beauty salon, itâs what he wantsâ. My nephew was a recipient of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He asked to tour Google. He was a really nerdy kid that loved technology, and he was really excited to learn Google had a hub in nearby Austin, TX. He got to tour their whole complex, meet any employee and talk to them about working in tech, and at the end of the tour they gifted him a brand new excellent computer and a 3-D printer. My nephew passed away at the age of 19, but he'd use that printer to give gifts to his cousins (of which he had many). My whole family will never forget the joy that Make-A-Wish and Google Austin gave to my nephew that day!!
My condolences for ur nephew.

My little sister (thankfully, she is still alive and doing pretty well) was a make-a-wish kid. She LOVED Harry Potter and wanted to meet Daniel Radcliffe. He wasnât meeting kids outside Britain at the time, so initially they said no. But they were able to arrange for our family to fly to LA, visit Universal Studios, and to attend the Harry Potter Premiere at Graumanâs Chinese Theater for the fifth movie. Not only did we get to walk the red carpet for the Premiere, but they surprised us with tickets to the after party, and she got to take a picture with Daniel and Rupert! Really a magical gift for a kid who was going through so much.
Also, just to address some other comments here, I think itâs healthy that Daniel Radcliffe set boundaries on what he could do. Just being a celebrity doesnât mean you have to be Santa Claus - you have to draw the line at what you can commit to, and thatâs totally fair. It was really amazing Make a Wish was able to figure out a way to make it work for both of them.

I was curious about the Imagine Dragon's story, so I checked it and found an article talking about it. I think there could have been a misunderstanding, so "It's Time" was actually Tyler's favorite song before he passed, and "Demons" was actually dedicated to Tyler.
Either way. It's a sweet story. Makes me appreciate the band more.
Haven't heard those song yet, but sees kinds ominous when you name a song "Demons" dedicated to a dying child...
The band also contacted the family and set up a foundation in Tyler's name. The Tyler Robinson foundation is apparently still active and growing as far as I could tell.

I knew a teen who made their wish as a kid for a Michelin star restaurant and wanted to do a massive course tasting. My understanding was they were so underwhelmed with the meal itself that they were disappointed... until dessert. The desert chef went all in and had done some petit four, pastries, cakes, and shaped chocolate deserts that looked like animals. My classmate survived and from that moment on wanted to be a pastry chef. I hope you made it, Jordan.

I always do heavy research on charities because, unfortunately, not all of them are truthful. Make a wish has always been my favorite charity to donate to. The way they go out of their way to help kids, knowing it could be their last happy memory, is truly selfless.
I mainly donate to make a wish and st. judes childrenâs hospital because as you said a lot of charities arenât all they make it out to be.
Could you share any good charities that would be worth donating to?
@@jk2000jk Sure! It depends on what type of thing you like to support. Some good charities for kids are: Make-a Wish, Saint Judes Children's Hospital, Toys for Tots. Some other not children exclusive ones are: Doctors Without Borders, The Ronald Mcdonald House Charity. It's also good to donate locally such as your local library, no kill pet shelters, or food banks. Hope that helps!

I suspect the "too hard to coordinate" tag on the kid who wanted a tree house built in his front yard had way more to do with the difficulty of coordinating with the city/HOA than coordinating builders.
Yeah, the house was probably a rental.
Back in the 90âs there was a treehouse contest. Like you write in with your dream treehouse and they pick a kid to then build the dream treehouse. The MAJOR issue was being able to build the treehouse on the property due to physical restrictions (literally was there a tree that could support a treehouse) and dealing with any local codes/laws. Iâm honestly not even sure the contest was full completed due to these conditions.

"i made sure my brother and sister were included in my wish, since my illness had robbed them of part of their childhood"
That was adorable and sad
But true, sometimes the parents and siblings are so focused on their sick child/sibling that they don't really live out their childhoods/have time for their other kids
Unfortunately it is a brutal reality for parents with illness ridden kids.
I could have been a make a wish kid, but we never really went through with it. I know that my condition was extremely hard on my family and... my only wish was that they could all be happy, but I had no idea how that could happen, or what wish could possibly do that for my family..... đą... It was a hard time for everyone, and, while I'm no longer eligible, we're still feeling the effects of it in some ways. One of my sisters feels totally neglected, and the youngest has anxiety issues... I don't even know if it was from that time, because I wasn't even there... I was always asleep, or in bed, or getting chemo, or something, and I was away for radiation for 3 whole months with my dad, leaving my mom to deal with 4 girls at home by herself. I've been back for a while now, and feel like I don't even know how to be a good brother to them. I still... I still feel bad when I think about it, even though it's been a few years.
I wish they didn't have to go through that. I wish I could have known how to make them happy... I was so frustrated. I was the cause of their grief, so why couldn't I fix it? I'm glad it's over now, I'm really glad this kid could get his version of that, and I'm glad I'm still around, I just wish I could... reach back and comfort them, or something. Make everything better. They never deserved that long and horrible emotional rollercoaster.
@@jojough8283 I'm sorry to hear that. But you are here now! It's never too late to spend time with loved ones!
That's sorta same for me, my brother was really sick and needed a liver transplant, he was so sick he got a makeawish but he never made the wish, my mum was always at the hospital with my sick 6yr brother, that I was often left alone with my 15 yr old sister, I was 3. He got the transplant and he survived, my mum still pays more attention to him then me and my sister, but it's fair. He made his wish and our family got to go to movie world, sea world and two other places, while staying in the Q1 (1k a night, we were there for 5 nights)
I will never understand why some celebreties or places deny the wishes. Yeah, I know schedules, money and all that, but these are kids who will die soon. Many of them don't get to grow old, will never have a family of their own, will never graduate, never drive a car. All you have to do is give them a free ticket or sit down with them for an hour to make them feel like they didn't miss out on everything. How can someone have so little empathy to deny that?
Some people just might not be able to handle seeing kids in that state. Could be due to a past event, might bring back painful memories if they knew someone who went through it. Though it is probably mostly due to just simply not wanting to put in the effort.
What hurts me more is the one with taylor swift where they just put the kid in the meet and greet line. Like this is a MAKE A WISH KID not some rando. This kid deserves atleast 10 mins
The only thing that makes it better is that sometimes the live, which makes it feel so good when they talk about how celebrities said no to a meet and greet.
I can understand denying a wish, but say you are going to do it then not show up, wasting that child's already slim time and wish is just vile.
Some people have trauma and seeing people like that isnât good for them or maybe at the time they are having family problems
I don't understand how a celebrity "won't grant wishes." If I was a celebrity and I found out a sick child wanted to use their wish to meet me, I would make it a whole thing! Shopping trip, meals in fancy restaurants, lots of attention, and a really nice gift for last!
Exactly! Itâs one thing if they are unavoidably busy, but another thing of they could do it but donât want to.
Keep in mind that a popular celebrity has a lot to do and even in cases where people are legitimately sick, there's lots of those as well. That's assuming that they really are sick, my mother had a student years ago who was pretending to have cancer, but turned out to be a con artist.
@@SmallSpoonBrigade That is totally understandable! That's a "can't." I'm talking about celebrities who "won't"
@@colleenmcbride3656 I agree. Busy schedule shouldnât matter unless it was 10 sick kids at the same time. Not because âfilming/concertâ
A couple of celebrities said that meeting a dying kid was fine, but still a heavy experience. Then there was another dying kid, then another, then another. Celebrities are people, and not all of them are mentally equipped to deal with dying people, let alone kids.
I remember a few years back, Matt Smith the actor who played the 11th doctor, canceled a weekend-long convention gig that he had planned, to fly back to England to meet a sick child.
I can't remember the full details, but I don't think any of the people that were in attendance at the convention were all that upset with Mr. Smith.

I worked at a nice hotel a few years ago. Make a wish called and asked if they could book a room for a family and explained that they needed it as soon as possible due to the timeline for the wish. We were always sold out so ended up giving the family a suite. The little girl got to go shopping at a near by mall and whatever she wanted at the hotel. Come to find out when the make a wish employee checked in for the family they explained it was all thrown together so fast because the girl only had a week or two to live. I have to say when she came up to the desk and we gave her a gift basket that shit fucked me up. Seeing a 8 year old knowing they have only days left in life. Fuck man.
I hope the kid had a great time and the doctors ended up being wrong about her dying. Reading about that shit also fucked me up.
@@Kalani_Saiko I hope the doctors were also wrong. It hurts to know that that child could have passed.

Iâm actually on the verge of tears right now. Make a Wish is amazing, I might become a volunteer there someday. I always imagine about becoming a celebrity who makes cartoons for children, and if someone wants to meet me Iâd gladly say yes and give them a tour of my entire animation studio. I want to help people in any way that I can.
South Africa's version is 'Reach for a dream'. I used to be a professional clown, and I asked charities to request free performances, and I would adopt one. I chose 'Reach for a dream', and spent many days accompanying the kids on outings, and performing at the Pediatric Oncology Department of the local hospital. I still think of them. Unfortunately, many kids passed during my 3 years working with them.

What makes me just as sad as the botched celebrity meeting wishes, is the fact that we live in such a celebrity worship society that so many peopleâs dying wish is to meet a celebrity.
It's one thing to want to meet a generic influencer, but most classic celebrities have a special skill that makes people want to meet them -- say, liking their music, or wanting to be able to play baseball like them. I think that reality tv and social media has made us all very weird about fame, but I don't think it's strange to want to meet someone whose work you admire.
I would say the exception is true artists (authors, filmmakers, musicians). They are some of the most interesting people in the world and extremely influential to many people's lives. If I could meet someone like, John Mayer for example, and just sit and pick his brain on songwriting and life for an hour, it would make me very happy.
Go back 2 thousand years ago you'll see people in the roman empire idolizing gladiators and selling merch of them

My story is similar to the 3rd story, in 2002 I wanted to meet Tim McGraw at a fanfare /reward show thing, but Tim wasn't to be there that year because Faith was pregnant and they kept coming up with ideas for meet Tim but didn't work out. So a very defeated 10-year-old me was like let's do the week-long Disney trip in Florida instead. So we did that then a few months later got a call and they like 'Hey Tim is doing this charity thing that his sister runs, it'll be very brief but you'll be able to meet Tim' what we didn't get told was the fancy hotel they booked us was all free and free dinner at the outback steak house. So in the end I ended up with two make wishes in a way that Tim McGraw ended up being not brief at all, in fact he met with us the longest. I'm forever thankful.
My favorite memory of meeting Tim is actually when Tim hugged my mom (who was crying) and said that 'its okay mom, everything was going to be alright'

A company I know of that has done good things with MAW is Blizzard Entertainment. The first big story I heard of a kid visiting the company headquarters because he was a big fan of World of Warcraft got to meet the developers and was given a phoenix mount for his character that no one else in the game had, it was made specifically for him. The mount was eventually released as a rare drop from a raid boss after the kid passed away, and there's a few other phoenix related things in the game that are dedicated to that kid. They've since let other MAW kids visit and get in on the game development over the years, and the kids have been able to choose something meaningful to them to be put in the game that will still be there long after they're gone. The company also released an in-game digital "WoW pet" one year at their store as a fundraiser for MAW that resulted in MAW getting over $800,000 out of it. There's plenty of celebrities and companies that "don't grant wishes" but the ones that do, usually go as much all out for it as MAW does. It's just a pity there's not a lot more of them like that.
Imagine they iseki into the world of wow when they die and they get their cool gear just for them.
Well, one of the MAW kids has an NPC dedicated to him. The NPC gives out a quest to find and feed a dog, and the dog is named after the kid's dog in real life. Anyone that talks to the NPC or does the quest with sound turned on gets to hear that kid's voice talking to them. Maybe that kid is hanging out by a bridge by a peaceful lake in a peaceful area of rolling green hills just outside a small villiage asking people to find and feed his dog... it's a nice concept to think about.

How selfish of your parents. Thatâs absolutely awful to hijack the singular wish of a child who might not make it. Itâs so disgusting I donât even have words. Iâm not sure how old you are now but I hope you are grown and donât have to deal with these assholes anymore.

That sounds terrible, I wish you the best
I had cancer at 16 and got a wish. I wanted to go to Japan but the Fukushima disaster had just happened and my doctors were worried about any exposure to radiation so it was no to that wish. I went to Florence Italy instead and got to stay for 2 weeks and go to every museum we could get to.
Still wish I could have gone to Japan but Iâm happy I got to go to Italy.
Glad you're better, man
I was a make-a-wish recipient. Basically I had a pretty major heart condition that was supposed to kill me.
Anyways, it was an offer to go to Disneyland. I was a baby at the time. My parents ended up refusing because they wanted the wish to go to a kid who, in their own words, "Really needed it". I honour their decision.
Not to sound insensitive but why would they even give a make-a-wish to a BABY? I don't mean to be edgy, but babies are BARELY aware of their surroundings.
It honestly sounds a bit insensitive. I'm sure your parents were already exhausted caring for and being concerned for a baby... and babies are notorious for stealing sleep and making parent exhausted. Pile on top of that the illness and, dear lord they must've just been half conscious all the time from the lack of sleep...
And then make a wish suggests that the parents should be dragged to disney land, which is full of lines and horrendously exhausting for parents to take their kids (especially babies) to because they have to prepare diapers, bottle foods, make sure they have a means to let the baby sleep or it'll be fussy....
I mean maybe if it was somewhere else, but whole disneyland?
I get why some parents refuse wishes. Travelling is EXHAUSTING and then you're dealing with the fact you're losing your kid on top of it. Everyone always forgets about depression when it's convenient.
I can't blame them for refusing the wish, things like you baby dying are just unimaginable tragedies.
@@jadecoolness101 I don't think what you said was insensitive and is a really good question. A baby (2 years and under) is not going to benefit from any outing or wish granting.
They should (with the parents permission) speak to the doctors involved and see if the child is expected to survive on treatment till they are old enough to at least make meeting Mickey a magical experience.
If the child is not expected to survive long enough, they should
1. Offer the family some relief, maybe in the form of a donor willing to help pay some of the medical off. (Make A Wish has good connections with very wealthy patrons.)
If there are other children in the household
1. Set them up with a nanny for a while so that they don't have so much on their hands looking after everyone while going through losing a child so soon.
2. Make an offer to do something for the children because most likely there is too much going on financially and attention wise for them to do or have fun things. (Not bad parents, but imagining going to work, then coming back to care for a sick baby or if in a Hospital, spend as much time as possible with the dying child as they can, talking to doctors, with the grief also there, it is hard to be there all the time).
@@SakuraShirakawa absolutely this. Giving a make a wish to the family of the baby would be great. The parents can get a break, or as you said, giving it to the other children.
The fact is, when a kid has a deathly ill sibling, it steals their childhood too. The non-sick kids have to grow up quickly and do it pretty much on their own, because quite frankly they are not dying and they don't imminently need the parent's attention to the degree that the dying kid does.
No one is really at fault. As you said, they're not necessarily bad parents, but they have to prioritise. A kid dying is a hard situation that no family should have to be put through. The kid is dealing with death, the parents are dealing with trauma, grief, and depression, and the siblings are also dealing with the trauma and grief, while also desperately needing guidance and nurturing but being denied it because the parents are depressed, exhausted, and have to prioritise the dying kid who needs them most. It hurts everyone.
Dying babies ought to be with their family. Taking a sick kid to Disney when they're too young and will only get stressed out is not what this is for.
@@SakuraShirakawa "A baby (2 years and under) is not going to benefit from any outing or wish granting."
Different kids mature at different ages. For example, my godfather (who is pretty exceptional) stood up in his cot and said "Mummy, the baby needs feeding." at a bit over 18 months. I feel like a kid like him could benefit from a wish at 2.

While Disney didn't build it, they do have a special partnership with GKTW, as well as Universal and SeaWorld. I may not live in Florida, but I've helped with fundraising efforts for that place (inspired to help after losing my father to leukemia when I was only 8...cancer is something NO ONE should have to go through, especially not a child). Give Kids the World Village was founded and built by Henri Landwirth (as stated in the vid), a Belgian who spent WWII at Auschwitz and Mauthausen. After surviving the camps, he immigrated to the US where he was drafted for the Korean War and then entered hotel management. In the 1980s, he started offering complimentary rooms to critically ill children who wished to go to Disney World, when he noticed one child with leukemia (Amy) cancelled. Amy died before she could make the trip, and this made Henri swear that he would never let a child's wish go unfulfilled. He founded the village in 1986.
At the village, there is a part called the Castle of Miracles that has tons of stars on the ceiling. There is a star for every child that has stayed at that village, and it simply makes one emotional when it puts things into perspective.
My twin and I have the same terminal illness, I have a lot of other siblings who didn't inherit it. As a family we went to GLTW as part of a wish and it was amazing, for all of us. My twin had been having a huge increase in the amount of seizures a day she was having, and it was like I could see her fading each day. The meds plus seizures with low oxygen was giving her brain damage every time. We nearly didn't go because we didn't know if she could cope with a flight from the UK. But we made it and of was like a miracle! We got my sister back during that trip
After months of stress and sadness we all were able to relax, have fun as a family, just overall have physical and mental distance to our problems. I truly believe that it was because we were able to go there and start being happy again, that my sis could feel that and it showed her that life was still worth living. Her seizures got better thru the trip (our neurologist semi jokingly asked who had swapped my twins brain because of how much better she was!). Her awareness slowly came back, she'd smile back at us again, then move her arms then back to her ways of communicating. I don't even wanna think what would have happened if we decided the trip would have been too much for her.
She hit another bad patch about 9 months after our trip, as I was planning my wish (the first trip was my sisters wish) and my parents had to stop me from saying I wanted the same thing as before, as I thought that it would be the same magic boost once again. Sorry for the ramble, I don't often get to talk about anything related to the terminal aspect of our condition because anyone outside our family act weird the second anything related to death is said. But thank you for your part in making the highlight of a kids life by donating to there

As a diehard Beatles fan for a long time, the whole Beatles wish was great! I went to hard rock in Orlando and went into the secret John Lennon room not open to the public. Greatest night of my life.
Just a note, Give Kids the World is it's own thing. It's not owned or operated by Disney. They work with Make a Wish and other similar organizations for kids who want to come to Orlando as their wish.
The make-a-wish story I love most is that Marilyn Manson let a teenager with a life-threatening illness sing backing tracks on his Golden age of grotesque album.
probably ought to change the albums genre to death metal.
My bro was a make-a-wish kid who was huge into wrestling (the fake WWE and TNA ones). His dream was to be a wrestler for a day. Which obviously is difficult with a sick kid, but not only did Make-A-Wish go above and beyond, but TNA did too. We got to go to Universal and met all these famous wrestlers like Ric Flair, Kurt Angle (who actually ran around Universal in a suit to try to find us lol), Jeff Hardy, and my brother even got to meet Hulk Hogan. We also got hang out with and eat lunch with them. It really was such a cool experience and I would love to somehow be able to give back. My parents knew this family who had a little boy with cancer. He was 5 years old and I got to visit him in the hospital once. I remember how much I cried when he passed away. My little sister asked for a hippopotamus đ. obviously they said no so they sent our family to Disney land for a week with line priority. AFAIK Nintendo of Japan's HQ is just a boring office building, but the NoA building surely have a lot of things to see, so it could make sense they denied the acces to the NoJ HQ and instead offered a tour at the NoA building.

My niece and my cousinâs daughter were both offered wishes around the same time. I donât know how that happened. Coincidence of a lifetime? đ€·ââïž No clue. Both girls had wished to go to Disneyworld without knowing the other had wished it too. The Ronald McDonald House Charities helped my parents when I was getting major surgery for extremely aggressive scoliosis (bad enough that my ribcage detached from my spine, and my spine was at a 90 degree angle) at 11 years old, so they could have a hotel room close to the hospital I was being treated at. I'm thankful for such programs exist.
well now I feel lucky, I had "severe" scoliosis, it was bad enough to need surgery and bad enough to confuse the doc about how it didn't hurt much when he looked at my x-ray (dude literally looked at me like I had three heads and just said "how are you even walking" lol), but I went with it undiagnosed for YEARS and I honestly thought it causing your ribcage to deform was pretty much the worst it got... but completely detatching your ribs from your spine?! This isn't a wish I had to say no to, but rather one I got to help with (kind of). I've worked at a local pizza restaurant for just over six years at this point. About two years ago, I was looking at the lineup for the night and noticed we had a big party. Looking back on it, I'm assuming it was dinner after their actual wish was granted, but the party we made the pizza for was a make-a-wish kid and their family. Despite not being their main wish of course, it was still a really cool feeling to have been at least *part* of their day.
6:00 really hit home to me. When my wish was offered to me(13yrs old) I immediately choose two things that would include my entire immediate family. I knew how much extra my siblings had to do and the emotional toll on them. I wasnât the only one who suffered my illness.
I respect you so much for this. Glad youâre doing well right now!
My heart broke for that poor, lovely child that as his wish chose "make mommy happy". That is just pure, innocent love. đ
I myself wasn't a make a wish kid, but my brother was. His only wish was (in his words not mine) "can I have a gun to speed up the process?" They obviously said no so he settled on seeing John Cena.

I remember going to Disneyland one time and one of our days there I saw a little girl with her mom a couple of different times and she had a Make-A-Wish button. I will never, ever forget that evening I saw her mom sitting on a bench with her sleeping in her lap. Her mom was stroking her hair and just watching her sleep.
ALSO, I second Ronald McDonald House being an amazing charity. My son was in the NICU for 8 months. We were fortunate to live very close to his hospital so we didn't use RMDH that often. We stayed one night after he had surgery and there were a couple of nights I stayed by myself because of the weather or other reasons. The rooms were also available for a few hours during the day for naps. I took advantage of that a lot and I would also go reserve a room for my husband to use for a quick nap and a shower after work.
Not only did they have the rooms families could stay overnight in, but they had these fantastic family lounges I used every day. They had fridges we could use for our own food and they were always stocked with snacks. One Sunday a month different volunteers would come and bring dinners for families.
Those lounges were safe havens for me many times. The NICU is a very overwhelming place to be and sometimes I just really needed to get out so I would go to a RMDH Family Lounge and unwind and have a snack.
I was a wish kid back in 2003. My wish was to meet Kelly Clarkson. The people at Make-A-Wish told me to have a backup wish because meet and greets don't always get granted, so I said Disney World. Needless to say I got my wish! Make-A-Wish went all out! My family and I was picked up in a white stretched limo and was taken to NYC to meet Kelly Clarkson! We went to the hotel where she was staying at. She was only supposed to spend like 30 minutes with me, but Kelly spent a full hour with me and my family where we chatted and took loads of pictures. Kelly Clarkson even sang to me and kissed me on the cheek! She was so down to earth! Then at the end, she surprised me with tickets to the Z100 Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden where she was performing that night.
After the meet and greet, we went to Rockefeller Center to see the tree. Then we headed to the hotel that Make-A-Wish booked for us for the day and night. We then went out to dinner and then headed to the concert. When Kelly came out, she performed her first song. After her first song, she proceeded to give me a special shoutout, then she went on to sing her second and final song. My family and I went nuts!!!
That was one of the best days and nights of my life! I still have the poster she signed for me hanging up on my wall as well as a whole photo album filled with pictures from that day! Also my story/wish made front page of the Make-A-Wish newsletter, which they sent me a copy of. Lastly, one of the photos of Kelly Clarkson and I was posted onto her website and stayed up for about a year!
The "make mommy happy" kid was an emotional gut punch. I nearly cried at my desk.
Even though going to Disney is a "cookie cutter" wish because so many kids either default to or fall back on it as an option, but it really is an amazing memory to spend time with your family there and to experience it.
Neither I nor anyone in my family was ever a recipient of a wish, but my parents did save up to take me and my two younger siblings to Disney world on an all out experience at a high end Disney resort on location with ferries to and from the parks, a magic soda cup with free refills in our hotel, magic bands which gave us almost everything. It was one of my most cherished memories
There's a local group in the KC area called The Dream Factory that granted my son's wish. He of course wanted a computer and because of it he got to meet his 2 half sisters that lived about 6 states away. So grateful!!
Tylerâs story melts my heart as I lost my aunt, who for a time was the mother in my life, to cancer, but she went to Hawaii and got me and my brother gifts with her last month alive.
To this day, I wrote a song for her and still have that gift on my desk and it was a part of the song too.
I stayed at the Give the kids the world villa back in 09 when my little brother who had bone cancer got to make a wish to go to Disney World! So cool to hear from others who also stayed at the villa. I have so many stories from that week alone, it was our first time as kids being so far from home, we're from IL (granted I live in Nevada now) and the farthest we had ever been was Indiana which is a state that touches IL! LOL such a wonderful memory. My little brother Micah didn't get a second wish (you can only have one) but when we got really sick about 5 years after his make a wish trip to Disney World, the entire community of our old neighbor hood pitched in at a Zumba fundraiser, raised like $16,000 and sent us all to Disney world for a week again! My brother sadly passed away about a year after that and I miss him so much but that kid was/still is loved!
Saw a reddit post, it was the kids dream to be the star of a music video so Make A Wish hired a production team to make one, they were filming in a park, and a Karen started shouting from the distance making fun of the kid.
When the kid finally broke down and started crying, everyone got pissed off at the Karen and she bounced.
Good news, the girl was comforted and they were able to finish the music video.
Bad news, pretty sure she died.

He originally wanted to perform with Ozzy Osbourne, while they couldnât do that, they still got him a back stage private meet n greet with him and the band at Madison Square Gardens and an all expenses paid vacation to New York. When it was my turn to make a wish, they were just like âWe only do terminal kidsâ and hung up. As an adult, I get WHY they do that, but itâs pretty insulting when they grant your brother a wish for the same reason as you and deny you for it.
One story that still breaks my heart, is the story of Jay Harmer.

They played together, and it's on youtube... learned of his death through Dan of NerdCubed.
It was just heartbreaking to hear he'd passed.
This is so hard to listen to but so heart warming for a lot of the stories.
Not a lot of people have heard of this but another company that gives kids a âwishâ is the Dream Factory, there are local chapters that give kids that donât have terminal illnesses a choice of a dream. I became paralyzed as kid and got to pick a Dream Wish. Since they arenât as well known their funds are less but they still paid for a trip for my family of 5 to Disney World and just like the Wish kids we stayed at Give Kids the World. Itâs the most amazing place ever, everything was wheelchair accessible and as a kid newly confined to a chair it was heaven to be able to do everything there and it was all free. My favorite was the ice cream shop where you could have unlimited ice cream options. Lots may think the Disney world trip is cookie cutter but that resort just makes it amazing as itâs not open to the public.
Iâve heard repeatedly that John Cena is really a great guy. He spends FAR more time with the MaW kids than any other celebrities and makes the kids feel very loved.
This wasn;t a "said no to wish" but I have a story.
