    Two amazing singers. Frida was more mature and spoke five different languages well, so she helped agnetha here at times. Each woman had an amazing voice, and when put together in harmony, they made the most wonderful music.

    A few comments about ABBA:
    They were a truly musical group, relying on great melodies and harmonies. For this, we must thank Benny. He used the whole musical scale to effect, injecting key changes and minor chords much as Lennon and McCartney had done. He also varied the style of music from song to song. A self-taught pianist, he clearly falls into the category of musical genius..
    Bjorn wrote great lyrics, many of them centering around real life, both euphoric and tragic. They are the kinds of stories to which all humans can relate. Both guys were good singers and musicians.
    As for the ladies, they were , by chance--and still are--both extremely lovely. Agnetha received much of the early attention. My personal theory is that since the era of Marilyn Monroe, blondes have been seen by many people--men in particular--as sex kittens. Fair enough. But Frida is classically beautiful. Her early fashions and hair styles tended to hide this beauty. But as early photos and some videos indicate, she had a startlingly lovely face, which she revealed much more routinely later on. And both of them had the finest singing voices of any contemporary female singers---ever!
    They were--and are-- a magical group. America was very remiss in not embracing them more at the time. I think we do now. We fully realize this was one of the greatest pop/rock groups ever. Their music lives on--and always will.

    When the journalist asks if the LP contains happy or sad songs, both women stay silent a few seconds being unease... Agnetha gets round the question telling that this record includes both happy and sad songs when it's obvious the general atmosphere of it conveys deep melancholy or a sad irony in each track. Both women already knew Abba's story was ending up at that time.
    "The Visitors" is by far my favourite Abba studio LP: poetic lyrics, music with classical influence and classy atmosphere. The sleeve of the record completely fitted this showing a beautiful scenery in subdued light. It was the very last original LP recorded by the band: a kind of legacy in a way.

    They look quite downhearted but they ought to be proud of that album. A lot of bands drag out their demise with ever decreasing quality. Not so with ABBA. 'The Visitors' wasn't as big a commercial success as previous albums although it still went to #1 in a number of countries. But it's artistically superb and a great final studio album. I've even come to have a liking for the one hoiky track on it, 'Two For The Price Of One' as the backing vocals on that are sublime.

    • @regiiotv
      @regiiotv Před rokem +2

      Yes I spotted that too and it's quite funny. At the time nobody realized she was probably not allowed to say that (by Stig Anderson most certainly), that all solo projects were not supposed to be yet unveiled to the world so as not to create suspicion on the rumours of a split. Frida was about or had already started to record "Something's Going On". With retrospect, it's quite funny to see that she was going to spill the beans...😯

    • @paulmiller3469
      @paulmiller3469 Před 6 lety +7

      They were sad. Agnetha's troubles are well known, and I suspect primarily stemmed from guilt over her children being raised by a nanny. But Frida also was dealing with her own issues - depression after meeting her father, etc. No one was holding a gun to their heads, and of course they made a lot of money, but the band also exacted its toll, and it seemed the two women (especially Agnetha) paid the lion-share of that bill.

    • @terryc.3390
      @terryc.3390 Před 4 lety +6

      Well, Agnetha and Bjorn had already broken up here...in late 1978, between The Album and Voulez Vous periods. This interview was in 1981. In fact, Bjorn was likely already remarried here. He remarried before the end of ABBA. And, The Visitors was 1981, the year Frida and Benny broke up, so thinking either the problems were coming here for Frida, or Frida and Benny had also already broken up here. Agnetha and Bjorn were married for about 9 years, 1971-1979...throughout MOST of the ABBA years, and Frida and Benny were only married for about 3 years, 1978-1981...toward the end of ABBA.

      No, it wasn't the end yet…there were 2 more new songs for "The SIngles" and then songs recorded for "Opus X" before the end came part way through that project. Also Frida says there were not extra tracks but there were indeed like "Should I Laugh Or Cry" and "Cassandra."

    • @Snowman13230
      @Snowman13230 Před 6 lety +1

      No they didn't know it was the end though they might have felt it was nearing. They sincerely tried to write another album in 1982 but the sessions were not going easily, and they unfortunately scrapped the idea only releasing two new singles and a Singles collection. And even then in their last interviews they tried to assure everyone that they were not going to split up...

    Agnetha almost choked on the word 'solo projects' which was the big Freudian slip here. I would have loved to see how Frida must have beaten her ass after that interview, lol.
