'The Way Old Friends Do' was originally recorded live at London's Wembley Arena in November 1979 and subsequently featured as the final track on ABBA's 'Super Trouper' album in November 1980. Sunday 5 June 2016 marked the 50th anniversary of the first meeting of Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson. A party was held at Berns Salonger in Stockholm, Sweden, for approximately 350 guests - including Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid 'Frida' Reuss. Towards the end of the evening, Agnetha and Frida took to the stage to sing this tribute to their former band mates. Björn and Benny did not sing with Agnetha and Frida. Therefore, the last known occasion that all four members of ABBA performed together was in June 1999, at the 50th birthday party of their friend and associate Görel Hanser.

PERFECTION!! Frida’s vocal is unchanged and her technique unbelievable. But then so too is Angetha’s. And the shakiness there is not a lack of vocal ability but rather an abundance of humanity and genuine emotion. It’s not easy to sing through that.

I went to a Roxette concert in Warsaw years ago-it was already after Marie's surgery. Every time she had trouble singing-Per took over. I know,not ABBA,but same thing on stage took place.

Agnetha finds her voice through the tears about halfway through this video. And then Miracle of Miracles, the ABBA sound appears with her voice hitting that exact sound above Frida's foundation in the choir. That is the ABBA magic right there, after 40 years of hiatus , and a promise of the perfected resurrection that we were treated to in September 2021 when their reunion saved the post-virus global depression. Bon Voyage, how grand the melodic seventies were!

This was a private function and was never meant to be braodcast. My understanding is that they wasn't a firm plan for them to sing, but they were encouraged to and did it anyway. Frida's vocals are unreal, she sounds nearly the same, Agnetha is really shaky at the start but she gets better. Blended, they still sound amazing. They are in their 70's after all!!!

Hardness in life has Anni-Frid, but she always strong and amazing woman and singer. Agneta weak in everything, she hasn't life's hardness.
As a trained singer, I can tell you, the hardest thing to sing through is an overwhelming emotional moment. I have performed for several nights in a row while suffering a terrible cold, barely able to talk but singing uses the voice differently and when classically trained, as both of these women are, it is possible to sing with an almost mechanical precision sounding almost the same even when nervous or suffering a raspy, scratchy blocked up nose and throat, however, overwhelming emotion whether sad or overjoyed, tearing up, holding back a sob, getting choked up etc., and the singing instrument loses muscle control and the airways clog and the diaphragm is tense and shaky, the voice quivers and staying in tune is a struggle let alone hiding it within the very process that is causing it - the words and melody, the familiar moment filled with memories, the celebration of the present and the love they have for each other in addition to the intense love from their live audience representing a longevity of faithful adoring fans. Agnetha has a track record of god given talent and flawless perfectionism when it comes to live performance.This was not a failing vocalist but the sound of singing through the tears. Shit if we are all at home crying with fond memories and for lost time - imagine what they are feeling and how it would culminate in that moment. I am honestly surprised they could pull it off at all. I think the only difference between the 2 ladies is that Agnetha is a softer person - not a softer singer. Love them both and have since I was 4 years old when I had my first ABBA album.

Agnetha has long said she found live performances difficult. It's a confidence thing. She deserves immense credit for battling her demons including a developing air travel phobia to do those overseas tours and promotional visits with ABBA. Frida by contrast has told how she suffered self-esteem issues during the ABBA years and the only time she was really truly confident was on stage. Well done to both for what they achieved in the past and for this too The video isn't clear but you can feel the emotion there. Agnetha puts her hand on Frida's shoulder as she starts singing.
Yes, she suffered and talked about her confidence and shyness. She always had it, even before ABBA. Hence the lyric her e husband wrote for her to sing "I don't wanna talk, if it makes you feel bad, seeing me so tense, no self confidence." But it never affected her singing then and it wouldn't now. A professional can be as nervous as all hell and you won't know it. Clearly, an emotional moment of this intensity the reason for her less than stella vocal. I would be surprised if it didn't show. Don't forget, she restarted her solo career a few years back, released an album and played live while doing a solo press tour around the world.
It comes back - she's just out out of condition. There is no matching these two. Im thankful they were both willing.
Agree to all that, not to mention the song wasn't a rocker you could just blast on through - it was a slow melody about old friends; shit, I practically couldn't get through watching it and staying intact. Frida's background (as I expect all of us here know) before ABBA was mostly live performances, and I suspect that stays with you, contrasted with Agnetha who was more of a recording artist. But in any case, all hail the ABBA women!
There is no doubt that Agnetha Faltskog and Frida Lyngstad are the two best their voices complimenting one another female vocalists in the entire world !! Their music often brings tears to my eyes it's so wonderful to hear them together now❤️.

As an old ABBA fan, I saw them live 1979 Copenhagen, their voices are still intact, and that's wonderful. a magic moment of friendship and love.

Frida stepped up the game here with her slightly lower register and was able to carry the song. Agnetha was obviously a bit nervous but she did well. I'm lookig forward to their new five music tracks and (fingers crossed) a whole album in 2021. Sure they are older, but what has age got to do with musical talent.

Agnetha developed (or had and worked through) terrible stage fright. I don't blame her for having butterflies.
It was not only that she was nervous but she had to sing in a lower key than normally.

I have no idea what Frida could do with her higher register these days but I'm certain that Agnetha could still do some wonderful high notes with Frida not too far behind. Just like they always did but a note or two lower. They both still shine !!!
@@williamclarke5658 Do you know "A", Agnethas last album? Yes, she was a little bit lower but at some points it was still exactly the same voice. Here it was even lower than her voice is now. If she would have sung in her now natural key she would have done better.

There isn't and never was a 'second voice' in ABBA. Certain songs were obviously suited to one of them more so then that voice was more noticeable. But it was the incredible sound they made together that really took them to another level.

Be be graceful, be grateful that she did this at all. Your naysaying may push her into no more singing - then what have you done! Agnetha did well and it was a great comeback; ALL of you should be greatful that a great lady and singer has overcome enough to perform again. I am so proud of her !!!

Considering that this was not planned or rehearsed in any way, and the two girls are really singing together for the first time in many many years, it sounded really great! Imagine what it would be like with the "real thing" (meaning rehearsing a bit and getting their voices in top form)! And I also heard that they sang this again with the boys, just after this video. You can hear Frida asking from the audience at the end that "You want us to sing it with the boys?"

Such a unique, sparkling, deep sound of ABBA is Frida's voice and timbre. Her talent was underestimated in this team, not fully revealed. She undeservedly remained in the shadow of the soprano all the time.She did not sing those songs that would sound great in her performance, no worse than in the performance of Agneta. I adore Frida for her talent, her beauty and uniqueness.
