Somalia and Somaliland is another divided but not recognized situation. China and Taiwan are technically a divided country with Taiwan as not officially recognized by other states. Throw in Morocco/Sahrawi, the Koreas, Kosovo and those breakaway states from Georgia and you have an easy part 2 video. :)

Your Cyprus map is wrong. The area east of the British Sovereign Base Area at Dhekelia (the eastern of the two such areas) but south of the "Green Line", is shown as red, implying Turkish control. A lot of these conflicts can be traced back to the colonial days. When the various European powers drew up their areas of control based on the geography of the areas, rather than the ethnic groups inhabiting the areas. Different ethnicities, especially when coupled with different religions, in an area, usually leads to friction between the fractions. Throw in valuable resources in one area, and there will never be a peaceful resolution.
A lot of the policy was guided by the 'divide and conquer' rule. It's the only explanation of how Britain was able to control countries like India, which had 10 times the population.
26 + 6 = 1
Or to colonialism and importing large numbers of people from the colonial nation to the colonized ones creating friction between the native citizens and colonizers. This is a thing in places like Northern Ireland, Israel and Cyprus.

There is also a list of such islands in Wikipedia called "List of divided islands".
It also includes river islands. One of which came to my mind while watching the video, that resulted in conflict between USSR and communist China.

Solomon Archipelago, that Chilean and Argentinean Island, Hans Island, Markët Island, Line and ig Pheonix Islands
Timor (between Timor Leste and West Timor which is part of Indonesia)
well depends on if your talking about the people or the country
Can you pls do Why do some different countries start with "The"?
Because they are compound nouns with adjectives, for example it's The United Kingdom or The United States because there are other united kingdoms but for this one it's a name, it refers to a specific united kingdom for which this is a name. Similarly, The United States are not the only united states, we've had loads of states unite throughout history.

Syria isn't "separated" for it to reunite. The country isn't split into different countries that aren't recognised by the UN, the conflict is simply between different groups of people in different regions. Of course keep in mind that the militias and forces within every region don't necessarily represent the citizens living there, which is why you can't consider syria divided. The same ideologies can be found in several areas within the country, so you can't really just "divide" it

Macedonia is divided too, between North Macedonia, South Macedonia (in Greece), and Pirin Macedonia (in Bulgaria).
The main issue in Northern Ireland isn't religion, it's national identity.
In the map of world ,which is in three phases, you didnt include new zealand
Northern Ireland may have been largely religious in the past but not necessarily now - I know a family from there who are practicing protestants but firmly republican.
Indeed, I believe the Catholic population, of at least some counties, in northern Ireland has reached higher than Protestant, for the first time in a long time.
(Probably meaning less that people are becoming Catholic than it does that protestants are just becoming irreligious or less religious, as you say, and Catholics may be migrating into that bit of UK)
@@TOBAPNW_ According to the 2021 Northern Ireland census results released just a few days ago, there are more Catholics than Protestants in the whole NI for the first time. You’re right that the biggest reason is that NI Protestants are becoming less religious with 43.5% being raised Protestant but only 37.3% currently identifying as Protestant while 45.7% were raised Catholic and 42.3% identifying as Catholic.
That’s the UK census. The NI Life and Times puts the non religious up even higher.
Since Ireland joined the EU they've become a secular state. Prior to that the Papacy held far too much sway in the country, with restrictions on divorce and a complete ban on abortions. Plus, prior to the Troubles (and the UK's deindustrialization and pre Thatcher malaise) Ulster was, by far, the most prosperous part of the island. Now it's an economic drag on London and would become one on Dublin should unification occur.
@@seed_drill7135 do you mean on Dublin? Belfast is in Ulster. (And three of the counties are already in the Republic)
The Samoan archipelago is still divided since 1900 in the independent state of Samoa (former Western Samoa, former British Samoa, former German Samoa) west of 171°W, and American Samoa, east of 171°W.
While German Samoa was the most farthest area of the German Empire‘s mainland, directly on the other side of the world when it comes to the longitude, American Samoa is still the only official US territory on the southern hemisphere.
The interesting point to make is how many of these divided countries were in the British Empire.
I sense that this is the start of a long series.

@@gamermapper That wasn't specified in the video.
It's not recognized by other recognized countries
Most political divisions are caused by a poor ethnic composition while there are many present examples as shown in the video there also are some potentially fragile countries like Afghanistan and Iran
Tbf in many developed nations (and even a few lesser-developed nations) the attitude towards a diverse ethnic composition is improving so it will be interesting to see how many of these divisions start to fade as time goes on.
For example, I personally think that the Northern Ireland/Republic of Ireland division will probably only last another decade or two until the religiosity of both sides is low enough that the origin of the divide isn't relevant anymore. That's especially likely if England continues to shoot itself in the foot at every possible opportunity, as unlike Wales or Scotland they'd be able to instantly gain another source of economic support, which for better or for worse all three definitely need to some extent or another.
@@TheAstrobiologistOW The divide in Northern Ireland has absolutely nothing to do with religion, it did centuries ago, it’s an entirely ethnic conflict now, the religions just run parallel to ethnicity, not a single person was killed in the troubles because of their religious background, it was over Irish nationalists vs British nationalists (loyalists) and it only seems to be escalating with the betrayal of the British in Ulster and the victory of Sinn Fein, not de escalating as you claim. Diversity kills a nation, the only improved attitude towards it is for all to reject it.
@@edelweiss7928 loyalists are decendants of protestant colonists from Scotland and England that the English sent to Ireland to cause diversity, a classic devide and conquer tactic same as the russians sent russians to Ukraine 🇺🇦
NI will remain in the UK. Catholic’s are now apparently more numerous then Protestants but apparently Catholic Church attendance is lower then Protestant Church attendance so something doesn't add up..
