Tash, your Anker Summer Shirt is beautiful. I love the drape of the bamboo and its sheen. Your sewn top looks great on you with that white skirt....and so summery! It's cold and dark and wintry in Oregon. By the way, thanks for the update on Jen Steingass and I'm glad she's back. I just finished her Goldwing sweater and am now knitting a SoHo Square by Jackie Rose (the middle size), partly inspired by your intention to make a Half and Half Triangle Wrap, but a bit smaller and with 4 colors. Lovely that you have time off and tons of plans....looking forward to Bec joining you.

The top you sewed is gorgeous! I also dislike when patterns are unrealistically stylized, and you really dont notice until you are making it. This happens with knitting patterns too. Something little will be "off" about it, and I look at the photos and finally see it.
Thank you so much. I know. It is misleading. And that doesnt feel honest. That pattern might sell more but then i am less likely to purchase from that designer again...

Thank you so much. I do knit a crazy amount of hats. They are just such great small, quick items that will usually fit somebody. I will have to get some together when winter approaches and see if my colleagues want any and also to donate to a local shelter. I only have one head and my kids dont really wear them.

For your green shirt that you sewed, you could embrace the off the shoulder look and sew a camisole strap across the opening on the one side. Only other thing I can think of is a single pleat along the neckline, maybe central back? Hopefully other people have better ideas.

Your Anker summer shirt fits perfectly. I love the drape. I had a 4 harness table loom and only used it a few times even after getting a book called warping by yourself. I enjoyed the weaving part but I guess not enough to compensate for not enjoying the warping process. Good luck with your project.
Thanks Hilda. I am sorry you arent enjoying the warping process. I am going to lean on my son to help me this afternoon. I only need him for about 2 mins. I think he can give me that. I hope you are able to get a friend or a neighbour to help just for the bit where you roll up the warp threads.
Your knitting is gorgeous. I think you need the Cuff Top pattern by The Assembly Line for your sewn top. Very similar to your one but neckline is smaller and has a facing instead of bias binding 😊
Oh - thank you for the suggestion Deirdre. I would much rather use a pattern that works than futz around with amending one that doesnt. :)
Love your knits. The Anker top in bamboo is lovely. Possibly with the sewn green top. Take off the binding do a centre front and back seam, maybe even a top sewn seam and put the binding back on.

I have just purchased my first skeins of Knitting for Olive (heavy merino). I too should be declutterring old PD papers and resources at school. But perhaps I’ll think of 2024 knitting plans first and what to use the yarn for. 😊
Knitting plans are much more exciting than going through 5 year old PD papers... Looking forward to hearing what you think of the heavy merino. :)

The Sophie Scarf is such a great, simple, wearable pattern. :)
You could replace the bias binding with a wider one . Or you could cut two fairly wide straps and set them in the top leaving the neck as it is ( cut out style )
I like the idea of the wide straps. I hate the thought of taking out the bias binding as it is already done. But i could add two wide straps and have a cut-out style look or i could do a wedge across. I think either of those might be the easiest work-around. Thank you for the suggestion. :)

I love how much you enjoy working a pattern over and over. I am the same. When I find a pattern I love it’s so fun to explore different colours and weights and materials. (Fargo was shot in my neighbourhood and it was so fun to see so many familiar spots through the lens of talented film artists).

When you showed your green top, it reminded me a podcaster how knit the top part of a tank top and then attached the fabric body to it, so I was wondering if you could make small holes in the neckline with a sewing machine and then crochet edging around it to close the gap FYI, I have been using the Judy magic tubular cast on for a few projects and I love it.

Tash, because the lime top is quite blousy, would it be possible to do a mock seam down the front and back and make it look like it was meant to be. It would be a shame to waste that lovely colour fabric. Just a thought. Great clip though and enjoyed hearing about your plans. Blessings Gail.🙋🏼♀️
That's a really great idea Gail. I like that a lot. Normally, if you have that, it wouldnt go through the neckband. So that would be my only hesitation. For that to look intentional, i think i would need to take off the neckband, do the seam, then redo the neckband. But i could be a bit lazy and just do it over the neckband and at least make this one wearable without too much extra work. I am a bit of a lazy sewist. ;)

Such a fabulous podcast, your enthusiasm and openness is a joy to behold😊I always come away with so many new ideas for yarns and patterns, my to make list may need some attention! I’m assuming the fibre mood top is cut on the fold and as there’s so much positive ease, I would reduce the neckline by an inch and therefore the bias binding by 4”. Happy sewing and knitting, Tash. Thank you so much Ali. The top was cut on the fold. If I attempt the top from the beginning again, i will definitely do some neckline adjustments. If i move the top over an inch, on the fold, it will bring it in around the body - but there is a lot of ease so i dont think losing a few inches there would be too problematic. Or i could easily bring that line out a half an inch. It is mostly rectangles... ;)

I like that idea too. I will play around with pinning first and see if it looks like it still fits ok. :)
For pink mohair, you could try Rowan Kidsilk Haze, Berroco Aerial, or Pascuali Mohair Bliss. All lovely to knit with and very soft.

I am more of a knitting beginner and i cant tell you how satisfying it is for me, that gauge-Swatches (i think i made properly) do not come out the same as in the finished product 😂😂😂 i have ALWAYS different gauges before and after
It is so frustrating. I think one of the reasons i like knitting with yarns i have used before is i have already worked out my "real" gauge in a garment. ;)
@@mostlyknitting i had the idea a few days ago. I think i will build my own "galery" of yarns, that i like to knit with, because i know how they will behave. Like a few different yarns of the different weights i use. For example 2-4 different fingering weight yarns, from which i know the exact gauge, how they behave after washing and wearing. This way i can choose patterns, where the gauge is matching (or do a little math to change the size while the gauge is same). And maybe some dk weight yarns and so on. Of course this would mean that i dont use new yarns, and of course i will 😅 but its also frustrating how the different yarns grow after washing. I had to frog a whole oversized pullover, because after washing it was like overoveroversized and not wearable.
The math of measuring properly before and after washing and blocking is sometimes hard, im not sure, if i to it properly 😅
It definitely is a big time saver if you know your gauge with a particular yarn and on a certain needle. I love Tosh Merino Light and work with it all the time. I know how it knits up, the drape, the gauge. That does save a lot of time and guess work. But then i am in a phase now where i am enjoying playing with new yarns. BUT, it means i need to put more time into swatching and seeing how they behave and then being surprised when the gauge changes in the garment - e.g. Knittting for Olive Pure Silk blew out from 28sts over 4" to 24. That's a big difference. Turned out to be a happy mistake as i love my Cumulus blouse and how it fits and i think that is because of the extra positive ease. Funny. ;)
Hi Tash, the drape of bamboo looks incredible. I found it a very slippery knitting experience resulting in too loose a gage. Maybe wooden needles would help? I am looking forward to your Magnolia Bloom « light »: I guess such a different gage would involve a lot of maths. would be interested to know how you adjust your size choice (I was thinking to look at stitch count for bust measurement of bigger sizes in the pattern, compare with gage stitch count to see if the centimeters would match my size, and pick the bigger size that matches the centimeters I need. But not sure this is the only work involved, as the collar, the sleeves circumference… may also require adjustment). Always a pleasure to watch your podcast. My best wishes for 2024. Marie

I will definitely have to be adjusting for a gauge difference for sizing on Magnolia Bloom so when i make it, it will definitely run through how i worked out what size i needed to choose based on sizing measurements. :)

That is an interesting thought. I dont like driving with a high ponytail as it annoys me when my head is leaning against the back of the driver seat. I think i am a bit of a princess and the pea with things that press into me. Fingers crossed that isnt the case....

For your sewn top you could add 2 half moon shapes of fabric (1 each shoulder) with the straight edge toward neck and round side along the curve of collar edge, which will make the neckline opening smaller. I sometimes do this to ready made garments to hide my bra strap if its an oversized/ boat neck. Lovely episode. Happy New Year!

Tash The Anker Tee has turned out so well and the Bamboo yarn drapes so well. Is it cool on you ? I have 200 gram Bamboo and Cotton and I am a loss to know what to make with the yarn. 2 plain and two patterned. A cowl? You have chosen a good colour for the cami. The new acquisitions are lovely and are the colours I favour. ❤😊❤
Thank you so much Rosemary. The bamboo top feels lovely and cool with the drape but it defintely feels heavy. For your 200 grams of bamboo and cotton, if it is like a DK weight, a cowl or a scarf could be nice. Maybe striping in the pattern with the plain? x
Yes! anker is lovely! I too like the Champagne cardi but not sure if I could do the band? Watched the tutorial cause I did buy the pattern.i wish it was done in English so I could focus on watching her knit instead of reading the translation and watching her knit at the same time

The fabric in your sewn shirt is very nice. I might try look for some beginner sewing patterns, id like to be able to sew clothes as well.
It is very fast compared to knitting. I don't love the process as much but I do like the end result (usually, not always). It is worth it and fun to learn new skills. :)

Ask them is they can get a sample card for the yarn. If one is available it would be good for the store to have for other customers.
I did ask about it but it doesnt seem they make them. Shade cards just dont seem to be a thing anymore which is a shame. It would be handy for suppliers and customers.

i use 2.25mm needles for the body and 2mm needles for the ribbing. :)
What if you sew a channel around the neckline and thread some cord through to make it a bit peasant style
