Thank you for this lovely surprise. I like the variety of Designers on your show. I made the same experience as Karolina that being creative helps through hard times. During a breast cancer therapy i used every minute in waiting rooms to draw designs in a sketch book or to knit. This helped healing so much.

I live in the USA. I too, like Karolina, felt patterns were very overwhelming. No one in my family knitted so I was self taught. In my small town there was a yarn store. The owner would teach you how to knit the thing you bought yarn for. So I learned to make slippers. It wasn't until 60 years later (I'm 71) when I started watching CZcams knitting tutorials that I began to understand how to read patterns and charts. I wish our USA culture was tuned into hand crafts so they were naturally handed down through the generations. If I had a grandmother like Arne had (of Arne and Carlos), I might have made a career out of wool, yarn, knitting, weaving, instead of picking it back up at age 57.

I had a similar experience. With several things in family happening I will never have chance to knit as I would like… but I get and still love it! Love learning from this channel. I am older!

Wonderful interview. Karolina has a novel and interesting eye for style. Hey, I’m 73 and I would definitely wear her sweaters. At the end: my gosh, Madeline is a natural at modelling. Beautiful.

I agree that many knitting patterns get bogged down in too much hand holding, but I do love a good schematic to be sure I'm understanding the end goal.

Interesting interview and it feels like one of the hardest you have done. The connection took some work and you mange to draw out insights with care and tenderness. There are a few experienced Danish and other Scandinavian Podcasters who talk about the love for the design and the struggles they have in knitting the patterns at times - it feels like it lies in the creative approach to the construction. They work it out in the end. I have learnt knitting these beautiful patterns is conceptual and not TV knitting. Well done!! Madeline gave a beautiful showcase of the elegance of Karoline’s creativity.

Now I like Aegyo even more! What a nice interview and great insights. Thanks for having her as a guest. I knit Umma cape so far and have the Eurus Slipover still on my needles. But there will be more. I watch Danish Musings here on youtube (highly recommend her) who test knits for Karolina and reviews her designs in a faboulus way. And the modelling in the end ....absolute fabulous!!!

  • @aleksandravaskrsic4767

Thank you for this wonderful interview; and in general thank you Andrea, Madeleine and dearest Andrew for your podcast. If it wasn’t for you I would never find freedom to venture into this beautiful craft of knitting. I knew how to knit and purl for most of my life but didn’t know any other techniques. Reading patterns was like interpreting hieroglyphs. I found the topic you discussed about detailed instructions vs short recipes interesting. I believe recipes work only when you have inherited knowledge. Knitting is a science in a way I feel…. And the reason why we find it so fulfilling is not just because it tends to slow time but because we better ourselves through the process mentally and technically ❤

I love Karoline's design and aesthetics. Being a Korean myself, I love all the design names. Aegyo is something my mom always told me I should try to work on to bring out the "girly side". But I grew up as a tomboy and never could master that aegyo magic.

  • @NewstromJulianna

Such an interesting interview thank you so much! It was really interesting to hear her talk about the differences in patterns for the Scandinavian and English/American knitters. I’ve had the same experience as she has, abandoning a sweater pattern that should have been be perfectly doable but the pattern contain too much information and confused me. While I grew up in the United States, I was taught to knit at an early age by a Scandinavian grandmother and cousins. To this day, I prefer to purchase Scandinavian patterns and read the them in Norwegian. Thank you!❤

Knitting culture is one and important factor, but I also think that Danes have better work - life balance in their country. Bluntly speaking they work less and have a bit more time to take up hobbies and be creative. Another ting is that they generally speaking value craft and craftspeople. I hope we all develop in this direction.
