What is the difference between cutting with and without motorized z-axis?
In this video we explored the difference between using and not using a motorized z-axis.
We set the same laser power, speed and and air pump pressure. The only variable is the motorized z-axis. The material is 30mm pine.
First, the test with the motorized Z axis. The motorized Z axis can precisely adjust the focus position and use the optimal part of the laser energy for cutting. 4 passes, 4 minutes. The cut surface is very clean.
Next, the test with the motorized Z axis turned off. The focus did not change. 6 passes, 6 minutes. The lower part of the cut surface is a little scorched and not vertical.
By comparison, the advantages of using the motorized Z axis are obvious: higher cutting verticality, clearer cut surface, less scorching, and higher cutting efficiency.
