- Running time for this video is about 20 minutes. So it's a bit lengthy however I do get into some great detail about the product. I do encourage you to skip forward to any portion of the video but you like or you can just sit back relax and enjoy. In one section of the video I give a brief explanation about FR-S Family Radio Service. And GMRS General Mobile Radio Service.

These walkie-talkies do have emergency weather alert function I wasn't too sure in the video but after going through the functions more thoroughly I did find that they do have this feature.
well, its not just cell phones going down these things work even if you don't have a single. how I use these is if im out in the woods hunting, or off-roading talking to the people behind me or if im in a car convey and we have 20 or 30 cars all going somewhere and is someone need gas or a rest area we all know
How do I do that? 8 have the exact ones
son all f r s radios are the same call tone alert 's your group
ALL family service radios have weather radio there are 7 channels privet code is nothing more
than blocking others from talking to you BUT thay can only hear you the range of your radio is 2 miles
it said 38 miles on the box that is only done on G M R S side you link to a tower and bounce of it
the police and fire do the same thing
how do I do what .
Very helpful video man, just know that we appreciate your vids!
Keep up your good work in making this videos.
Awesome video! I am visually impaired as well, (actually blind), and have a few two way radios myself. They’re quite useful! My friend, Steven, (who is also blind), hangs out with me sometimes, and we often enjoy going to Meijer or Target, and we use two way radios to communicate, as we are in different parts of the store. We use a visual interpreting service on our phones, so we can’t exactly text back-and-forth while shopping. That’s just one used case for two way radios.
How did you type then?
@@chrischeesenip5336 are you referring to me typing to the visual interpreter? If that’s the case, the visual interpreter and I speak back-and-forth. It’s the service, AIRA.
@@shaunteckno oh, ok! That makes sense, I'm 15 and trying to get into some of this stuff and I saw your comment and was wondering how that worked. Thanks!
@@chrischeesenip5336 no problem whatsoever. I’m curious how much site do you have?
Thanks it's helping me to understand
Manual small to read.
If you hit the weather button twice it give you an on off option for alerts
:::Weather alert::: "It's raining sideways!"
Thanks Ollie
I think I know less about these radios after watching this video than I did before
That's Aaaaaaaah
Your a freaking cool guy 😎
thay were ment too use at a mile I have three but I am on the G M R S side with license and can talk 20 miles
through a net work of towers linked to gether there are 6 covering three county's
that's because he did not read the book first it seam's thay never do
you radio has a range of two miles in town line of site good luck
family service is ment to be short range line of site two miles in town set the radio to the input channel for a repeter then your at 20 miles for each repeter and you need your no test license
good luck and have fun.
Nice job
Than you.
Thank you for this video. 👍
We just brought these and we’re having trouble connecting them. They only work around the corner. I wonder what I’m doing wrong. 😢
your radio has a 1/2 watt transmiter
and 1 mile or line of site only
your talking on a radio that's only good in large store and has three or so floors
Is there a way I can keep the radios just connected without anybody else fumbling into our frequency?
You can use the security codes oil changing channels wireless number towards the right Google security codes that will sort of stop other people farmer getting into your conversations. You can think of them as sub channels.
No, everyone can hear your convos! Talk codes just block others on the same channel so you can't hear them.
when you use a code on both radios other people will still hear you only thay cant talk to you
but your still limited to two miles these will work at the mall also.
when you set the code on your radio other people will still hear you BUT thay can't
join in on you talking to your friends.
thay can only hear you not talk to you.
Can you do a video on chirps. And what they mean. On this same walkie.
How do you connect to a 2 way radio??
set both radios to channel 4 and start talking you can use all 22 chanels
YOU SET EACH RADIO To the same channel
If 2 indviduals are about 30 miles apart, standing on tall hills or mountains facing towards each other, can see the mountain the other is standing on, and if the planets are aligned, they cal talk to each other. :-)
So true, but dont expect more then a few miles if ur not!
answer i no two miles only short range you can talk 20 miles off towers linked together meaning same in put
towns my three hand held's will that and also my 45 watt base I have a G M R S license and talk out state
often
will not work your range is two miles only
@@donalderickson-si8ww Yea, but the contact is also line of sight. So if the 2 radio's can see each other, the distance between them isn't limited to 2 miles. At 2 miles the signal doesn't cease.
NOT REALY YOU ARE AT 2 watts only in the open you will go farther
In the middle of town they only work decent up to a mile or less.
That's pretty much the case with any walkie-talkie if you're not in an open field which would be more direct line of sight the distance will be a lot less.
the radio operates on two watts only these are short range only.
Strange question--can you simply have this plugged in on your counter and leave it on so that the weather alert would function like a traditional weather radio?
Technically yes but at that point why not just get a wheather radio
No, it will fry your batteries eventually.
the weather channel repeats it's self for one hour then any changes will up date next hour.
you will fry the batteries if you do that lission to the weather on tv.
or watch on TV durning the news hour

As a RF engineer...The best one can expext is ABOUT 1 mile in populated area...I've tested these radios in two populated area's but under 25, 000 people....Using the lower channels should net you a longer range, but I haven't seen it....
You might be lucky to get 3 miles, never mind 32.....
You just have missed the part it said up to 2 miles in a city.😅😂
@@FenrirRagnulf what it said, and what test results I cited missed nothing. You just don't understand RF.
No shit Sherlock!
@@jonathanpratte1988 glad you admitted your flaw
32 miles is on the G M R S side of the radio
that's where you will find me
Do these work inside from building to building? If the building is less than 2 miles ?Thank you
Yes
@@Underdog6501 thank you!
Most likely not, unless you're both super close.
try it out and see what happens there my be to much brick and metal be tween you again try it out first
I would try it out first I can not answer that question as I am not there. good luck
Thumbs up🎉
i cant get the weather stations to pick up anything
I figure in an extreme emergency you wouldn’t need a license, nor would the average weekend warrior. I personally want to get one, but do I really need it- no
You're not need walkie talkies all the time specially now with cell phones but they are great to have in the event should all other communications go down remember we have smartphones but they rely on the grid meaning if cell towers go down or if there was to be some massive hack that affects the entire grid the phones would be useless the internet would be shut down where with the walkie talkies there is no bringing them down even if repeater stations were to go down the radio still work directly with each other. If it was to be an extreme emergency but you had to use the higher channels no I'm pretty sure your license would not be required in a situation like that.
There FRS, so no GMRS license needed.
too talk on G M R S yes you do your talking 20 miles I am G M R S license holder I work of 6 towers linked
together for the 20
the f c c I will get in evolved and the owner of the tower will probley have something to
say to you also.
sorry the f c c has rules for all radios and you fallow them or thay will come and talk to you
that is the F C C
So when I was searching through all the channel I came up a radio call channel like the FD or the PD do I need license to use it???????? Or is it just a normal channel I can use
police and fire operate on 800 megahertz this is out side the range of your radio.
you where on the receive channels for G R M S we use call sign's
what youn herd was us using are call signs on are systum
the second channels are 15 through 22 if you where on F R S channels
15 through 22 then you where hearing are off repeater channels
not the police.
You can connect this Walkiess with baofend radios ?
BUT BAOFEND is not sertafied with the F C C to use on family service radios
How far can you transmit on the gym or with walkie-talkies? Do you need an actual CB radio? Could you talk state to state with a handheld walkie? I wish you could do that on the other station
I do all the time on G M R S channels
there above channel 22
I do that everyday on G M R S with a license also
Eh Bluetech7753, just want to share with you a similar one. I recently bought Cobra RX 680. It's really good. I tested after few days. For battery stand by exactly 113.5 hours. This's model rechargeable battery included. Which I love it. Of course, this is a new model but all buttons and screen exactly the same. But it's really confusing to program before use it.
Press [Menu] once to set channel
Price [Menu] twice to set talk code.
Talk codes are not encryption, it's basically blocks others on the same channel with a different talk code.
my advice read the manual that came with the radio and fallow along
the only thing you are program is what code you want you code will not allow anyone
to talk to you thay can hear you that is what the code does.
the button that says max range hold it down and it will reach further
Do I hold it down while I am transmitting? I hold it down before pressing the talk button and all it does is take off the squelch and then you can hear the static.
Just got mine and am wondering the same@bluetech7753
HE IS WRONG to talk farther hit your up button till it reads R P T know you are on G M R S channels
when you set your radio in put after you get your license your talking 20 miles off each tower
if you have a 5 watt radio yes I do my range is 20 miles on a 45 watt radio set to g r m s C H's
Upgrade the battery 850mah to 2500 mah litium up. Rechargable.
Do you know where to get those upgraded batteries?
I plan to buy RX685's This 2500 mah is something I would be interested in attempting when I get, but question is it possible to get like a (slide on battery charge pack) other then single or wrapped batteries.
I use eneloops, and also bought a real eneloop charger!!
Amazon
Only really useful if you're talking all day, and/or using low power.
How do you make these work for a 10 mile radius
only on G M R S you transmit to a tower and bounce off to your friend several miles away I have three
hand held's that will do that and also my base radio does 45 watt out put and yes you need a license
to do thatffx
thay will work at 10 miles after you set your radio to a re peter then GET YOUR LICENSE
as you are on G M R S and you do need a LICENSE
you do not there short range radios to get 10 miles yu need aLICENSE get the radio to talk to a G M R S tower then you have 10 miles
get a license then find a g m r s repeter near you set your radio to the in put code you in
Can u show us what the headset port looks like
Like the Motorola Talkabout radios. 2.5mm
fallow the speck sheet in the book
it is listed in the book read the book cover to cover.
How can I hear other channels? Like other people chatting
The radios do have a scan feature where it will automatically scan through all the channels if there's activity on one channel it'll stop right there. If you're not hearing other people it's either because no one is transmitting at that time if you know of an area or part of your City where you live where you know that FRS radios are being used you'll have better luck there. However I will mention you will not be able to listen to any law enforcement activity on these radios.
push the up button and go through the channels.
use your channel selector up or down
👍
Would it communicate with cb radios?
No these are FRS and GMRS radios it's a totally frequency band the cb radio you would need CB walkie talkies .
no it will not you would need to buy a C B to do that
family service radios can not talk to cb's want to talk to them buy a CB radio
Can You Review The Cobra RX685 ?
you need to ask him that one
ALL family service radios no matter who makes them the inside panel is the same same codes same channels that is why thay all work together
idk how to get the weather stations to pick up signal
When you press the little button you select the class channel. It all depends on how close you are to a weather transmitter Tower it could be possible that you might be too far away from the nearest transmitter so in that case it'll either pick up very staticky or won't pick up at all. In my area there are days where to pick it up nice and clear and at other times it can be a bit staticky I'm about 25 mi from the nearest NOAA weather transmitter.
@@bluetech7753 oh ok
go to weather channel read the book
Mode does not make channel flash I thought maybe it's on lock but lock don't work either must be a set of lemons
You probably just got some bad ones because the ones I bought work perfect it's nothing wrong with them.
read the book that came with the radio's
How Can I Scan Channels???????????????????????????????????????????????????????
read the book and you will know how.
That's where I got my walkies. Wal-Mart!! Good deal $35.99 or $39.99
USB Charging!! Removable Rechargeable Baterries.. 3 each. Haven't used them yet!!
Well I haven't quite done a review video just yet but I plan to do one I have used mine and I can honestly say they are pretty good. I've seen other videos where they say that the Walmart walkie talkies or what they call blister packs are not good walkie talkies but I think that's a little inaccurate. These cobras are great I tested the range on them. They'll give you at least half a mile to 1 mile on the FRS channels which are the lower output channels. You do get about three miles on gmrs channels which are the higher output channels of course as you know you do need a gmr's license from the FCC to transmit on those channels it's very easy to get on like ham radio where you have to take a test with this one you don't you just log on get your free number and pay for your license. I have talked to other FR-S users in my area so that's pretty neat.
@@bluetech7753 This radios are FRS only, and do NOT require a license to use any channels since there under 2 watts, as per FCC's updated rules.
@@RKingis how do I charge them ? How can I tell when they're done

What Channel your using
I primarily use Channel 8 channels one through seven are gmrs channels so I don't use those right now at the current time since I don't have a gmrs license. However I am working on getting my gmr's license so that I can just use all channels.
@@tsoma62 Hey, this radio s FRS, so you can use every channel on it. You can talk to others on any GMRS channels with these kind of radios.
FRS is 2 watts on 1-7+15-22, and .5 watts on 8-14. GMRS is over 2 watts, plus 8 repeater input channels.

What size is the jack?
I think it's your standard 3.5 headphone jack.
@@bluetech7753 thanks. I ordered them and wanted to get a ptt earpiece but I am seeing 2.5 and 3.5. Ouldnt find online any specification for that.
@@evyllinc I stand corrected it is the small 2.5 Jack not 3.5 I couldn't find any specifications mentioning this either I tried to look for it so I can be sure I didn't want to give you the wrong answer. The only thing that I could do was grab a 3.5 in headset and try to put it in there no obviously it's too big so it must be a 2.5. jack
They are pretty good walkie talkies I can tell you that much. They also have a red emergency panic button on top this is very good. Who activated it sounds a very loud alert tone and it will even automatically turn on the microphone on the radio so that you can summon help if for some reason you are not even to press the PTT button yourself.
@@evyllinc If I remember correctly, 2.5mm is a Motorola standard for consumer radios.
How far does these go to
Perfect line of sight meaning no trees hills or structures in between the range can be up to 1 mi or just a little bit over. This will also depend on battery usage or other if the batteries are getting weak then if this is the case the range would decrease. I tested them while walking around in my neighborhood with one radio inside the house and me walking about two blocks away the reception was still pretty good a bit fuzzy but still pretty good.
two miles only short range radio your uses two watts
2 miles only in town slitely farther out of town
Can anybody tell me how to use the maximum range of this walkie talkie? I have it but dont know how to use it in longrange, only working below 1km, please help 😞
hold down the max range button :)
@@r3tro_lmao842 thanks, I already did that, but still not working, I just read on some forums that they said it only working in clear space like countryside or forest field and can't connect in the city where many buildings and other signals out there 😂
I’m trying to figure this out as well
U need to be on the higher channels for it to work
Max range just opens the squelch.
my need one pack how pice
Bro dose this thing needs a license to use
No
These are FRS on all 22 channels. No license needed😊
your radio also has a G M R S side it i the next set of channels in your radio
I can talk across three countys
YES AND your radio need's to be set too a G M R S tower
@@donalderickson-si8ww These are FRS radios only. These were reclassified by the FCC to be just FRS.
How do you insert the batteries?!
The belt clip slides straight up and detaches from the radio there's a little tab that you pull back and you simply lift the belt clip off. After removing the belt clip . You push down all the battery compartment and it should just slow out then you insert the batteries according to the orientation symbols inside they will be a little tough to answer but you simply just push them down.
RTFM
open the back of radio if you use high amp battery's you will get more bang for your buck
read the book or open the back and fallow the battery paderen 1 up 1 down 1 up
The private codes are BS on this model! In scan mode they will stop and open up to any activity no matter how you set the privacy codes. They do fine for monitoring one channel but privacy codes might as well not be in this model because they don't block anything!
This your first radio?
HELLOW what thay bock is me finding you on yours radios and joining in your talk group
if your radio is set on a privet code and you don't tell me what the code is I CAN LESION
IN BUT CAN NOT CONTRUBET TO YOUR TALK
there not 30 channels family service has 22 channels with the codes when you use them I can not talk to you
I will only be able to lisen to you gmrs has 15 repeter channels and after you set the radio up with the tones
for that repeter's and recive your license then you can I KNOW becouse I am a license holder
Actually, there are only 8 repeater channels, as the output channels are 15-22.
take away all the stupped stuff you have 22 channels forn family service
KNOw on my side you have 8 channels that are repeter channels thay
require a license to use and the radio need's to be programmed to a tower
to do so I AM W R X N 824
I though hey have 40 channels
It's actually 22 FRS channels, with the extra channels spread around FRS with preset talk codes baked in.
22 channels on frs and 8 channels on G M R S
@@donalderickson-si8wwYou clearly don't know what you're saying. RTFM!
that is c b 22 channels on family service there are 8 channels for G M R S I have one
I hope you dont drive.
I remember being told in my freshman year that I would not be able to drive when I wanted to take drivers ed. Although with the help of one of my older brothers I did attempt to drive with him by my side. I came close to hitting some parked vehicles but of course with his hand on the wheel he kind of scared me away from them. That was when I realized that there was no possibility of me ever driving it's just not safe. I don't think any other legally blind person would be able to drive either. So when someone legally blind chances are more than likely that they don't drive.
Depends if you're near, or far sighted, and legally blind. I can ride a bike, since I'm far sighted.
Would Jesus buy these? Prob not, he probably has a Baofeng……….
If he was breaking the law, or had a ham license.😊
baofeng is the same as this radio is the cheep end of ham radio
baofeng is the same low end radio for ham world as family service is for us
this was worthless ... :( I just wanted to know how to get the most range out of these radios and all I got was someone reading the package and struggling to do that...
