The loop on the bottom of the Motorola is for connecting a carabiner and attaching the radio to your backpack, gear or belt.

Kudos for taking your time brother
I used to work for Motorola back in 2000 when GPRS was booming. Since they moved their design to middle east, I lost my faith. Cobras and midlands has been in the market since I remember ' 44+ years ago '

Of the two which has the best radio performance. In my experience Motorola usualy out performs other makes particularly radios of this price point. Both of these radios are built down to a price. I'm in the UK using pmr446 and more professional radios, offering what you require, are available from Motorola and also Kenwood but of course they cost more for a single radio. Thanks for sharing your experience of the Motorola and Cobra radios.

I wish the Cobra RX685 had a microUSB charging plug also. If you have two separate camps, and only one charging cradle, only one camp can charge the their radio.

The loop is to secure your radio to yourself by using a lanyard or other type of tie down.

Most PTT buttons are designed for use with your thumb. Unfortunately, the T8xx series are capped under 1 watt, since there designed to use your phone to send location data, and text messages. The generation before those had a nice, thick rubber buttom so they can stand up. The Cobra definitely has a more professional look, and feel.
Check out Cobra's older CXT lines. There water resistant, and float, and some can record 20 seconds of audio.

It's better without a cradle. When camping, you can charge the Motorola's with a portable battery with a usb cable like you would for your phone. Also, it's a smaller footprint for packing stuff... no bulky cradle to pack.

I have the cobra. Very nice walkies. I was turkey hunting a couple weeks ago and I dropped mine in the creek. It still runs just fine. Not to mention the light on them is really good. I use mine in my tent and can talk to my buddies around 1000 yards away. I can't stand the Roger beep. First thing I turned off

I appreciate the review, but the charging cradle issue was probably intentional, if you have to use the cradle you've locked into where the cradle is... if I issue these to my volunteer team, they're going to take them home, and they won't all have a cradle.

I'm not sure I understand the desire for a charging cradle. If I am traveling, I want to travel light. A cradle is bulky to carry vs. just a cord, which can also be the same cord you use to charge your phone etc. Just bring one cord, or replaceable batteries (I know that the Motorola can use regular AA batteries if need be).
Also, any word on the performance of the two? ie. Voice clarity and distance? I think these are more important aspects of a walkie talkie. (ie. I didn't get a walkie talkie for it to be a flash light)

@@Eanicus No, I cannot remember the last time I have returned an item. If an item is defective or broken have exchanged it, or got a refund. But specifically I have never purchased a product for an intended usage, used said item than decided to return it because I felt I could buy a better product. When you have a change of heart it should not be the retailer's onus to make you whole. Likewise people whom buy from {insert retailers name here} then buy from Amazon then returns the Amazon item back to the retailer. I watched your video doing my due diligence. Yes, I'm anal and yes, I have bunches of crap I deemed subpar but rather than return it I sell it or give it away to people that will use it.

@@lloydwellington5271 per my video, if the product were good, I would have kept it. The purpose of a return policy is for reasons like this. Have fun keeping all that shit you don’t want because you’re oddly anal about returning stuff 😂
Not sure why you have some stoic perspective on returning stuff to a BIG BOX retailer who can turn around and still sell it.

Costco. 3 pack with a cradle for 2 units. Solved. Also, any radio standing up is too heavy. If you look at it the wrong way it falls over anyway. You’re splitting hairs with the thin factor. Video is a little dramatic on the trivial issues. Many reviews on the T801 and in many ways blows competition away for the price. I’ll give you the flashlight thing though!
