  • Today I review the Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX car radio. This radio was released in early 2020 and it is a great way to use Android Auto and Apple Carplay in a car that doesn't have it. I explain the features and settings for this radio and I hope you enjoy it!

    Hey FYI, Time Alignment is how you adjust the delay for the sound to your ear based on location and distance. It is a key feature to getting your soundstage setup correctly, a very very important feature.

    • @gianniv4598
      @gianniv4598 Před 3 lety +1

      Nevermind! I figured it out! For all new users of this 4660, you cannot adjust the clock. At all. The satellite antennae hones in on your location and automatically adds the date and time. What you have to do however, is to get the time right, as its based on UTC instead of the time zone you are in. So you need to convert the UTC time into your time zone. I live in EST, so I had to keep moving the UTC button until I hit -4. And the time was then converted correctly. Hope this helps anyone who needs to set their clock after an install!

      The best thing about it is using your Note 10 for Android Auto. You can set it up wirelessly so you have Google Maps and other smart apps on your Pioneer screen. You should also have a USB cable coming from the back of the radio to your glovebox or wherever the Best Buy tech routed the cable to so you can plug your phone in for Android Auto as well. As far as Alexa goes, it's not worth using because you have to have the hotspot on your phone on in order for it to work.

    Perfect review, really informative and succinct. I have a '13 Toyota Sequoia and I just put this in. Doing so, seemed to knock my Boyo backup camera offline. :0( Crutchfield is sending me a new one. Anyway, my main question is this has video out does it not? I want to put in a 43" TV in the back for the 3rd row so when we go camping we have a rolling entertainment center. This has HDMI I do believe, could I run a power inverter, the TV with FireTV on this beast, connected to mobile hotspot? I am thinking about just getting a separate always on mobile hotspot it'd only be like $25-50 a month to add to my bill. I have 2 12" JL Audio W1 300W Subs mounted in a powerwedge box in the very back & a 1000 Watt Crunch amp driving them. My main question though is about the setup for the TV. How will that work? If it will work? A lot to unpack there but just need some advice.

    I am not sure what is going on here, but either people are getting paid for positive reviews or something has drastically changed between when videos like this were made and now. As a result, I feel the need to let people know a real (and current) review of current Pioneer NEX radios.
    About a month ago (Jan. 2023) I purchased and installed a Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX stereo for my truck. Before installing I bench tested the unit. While Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and WIRED AppleCar Play worked right out the gate, WIRELESS CarPlay was giving me one hell of a time. The thing just didn’t want to connect wirelessly no matter how many times and ways I tried. I finally got it to connect by deleting all the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and CarPlay connections from both the phone and head unit then connect the phone via USB. Once I did that it asked if I wanted to connect wirelessly to CarPlay. After saying yes, it worked MOST of the time. I would still need to reset tethering each time I wanted to connect to the unit, but I could force it to connect that way MOST of the time.
    I then decided to install the stereo in my truck, well since then it has NEVER connected to CarPlay wirelessly. Again, wired is fine, but wireless was not. I wish I could say that is where the problem ends, but the unit actually gets worse the more you use it. I also need to add that I have the lates iOS installed as of 1 Feb 2023 (16.3) and the lates firmware on the stereo (version 3). I should also add that I have two other people that work with me that recently installed NEX radios as well and they ALL have the exact same problems as well. We have tested on both iPhone (12 and 13 Pro), Android, and on two different stereos (DMH-WC5700NEX and DMH-4660NEX), so you cannot say it is an Apple or Android problem alone.
    Below are the current problems with NEX stereos:
    1.) Will not connect to wireless CarPlay and Android Auto
    2.) Unit pops up a message saying connection problem, yet unit shows a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection to phone.
    3.) When clicking on the phone icon on the stereo it is not showing a connection to phone. If you look at your phone it will say connected, but if you tap the already connected Bluetooth connection on your phone it will now display on the head unit.
    4.) If you shut off your car you will need to turn off tethering and back on before it will connect. Sometimes more than once.
    5.) The Pioneer “CarAVAssist” program launches itself every time you are in the car with the stereo on. The freaky part is no matter how many times you close it the program will keep launching itself as long as the stereo is on. The only way to stop it is to delete the app.
    6.) Stereo keeps dropping and reconnecting the Wi-Fi connection when driving.
    7.) Stereo sometimes starts up to a black screen that won’t go away and no sound. Only way to fix it is to turn the vehicle back off and on.
    As stated at the start, not all these problems you will see at once, but within a couple of weeks you will see them, and these problems don’t seem to go away. The problem exists with both Android and Apple devices and across multiple NEX units. I have already contracted Pioneer, but they will not respond. Best advice I can give is to buy any other stereo that doesn’t say Pioneer. I am sure Pioneer know of the problems plaguing NEX units and needs to release a firmware update to fix all these issues now or I will be installing a new unit that says “Kenwood” on it and never turn back.

    • @dmnhnters
      @dmnhnters  Před rokem

      Thank you for your input. I have never really had any problems with any Pioneer units and I bought them all on my own. I had the 4660NEX, currently have 2 7600NEX, and older ones like the 4200NEX and 4400NEX. Never had any serious problems.

    I just got this radio today and don't understand how it works and how to work it. I bought it from Best Buy and had them put it in. He wasn't very knowledgeable about telling me how to work it from my Samsung Note 10 + he has an Apple phone. Can you please help me to understand this radio? I'm ready to return it. Also, for some reason it won't let me update it either.... Please Help me to watch CZcams videos and to work the system all together.

      @@dmnhnters Yeah, I have all of that set up, but it doesn't do the mirroring with my phone for the Car Av Assit (what does that do, the guy at best buy told me to download? ) this radio has a lot of stuff going on......

      I don't use any Pioneer apps. In my opinion, they are all bad. Just look at their reviews. But the units themselves are good. The only thing that app allows you to do that most people are interested in is showing CZcams. But I've never tried it.

    I just put this in today and lost steering wheel controls. Volume works, but I can't skip songs forward or back, can only seek in the current song.

      CD’s really don’t have great quality compared to FLAC. If you love CD’s, you will love what is available these days. There are much better options for sound quality than CD’s.
