That’s what Total Depravity/Total Inability is. It isn’t the teaching that all have sinned. You're exactly right. Living sold out for Christ over the past 38 years, and then I discovered that there is a group of people out there within the umbrella of Christianity who believe such a foreign gospel and it blew my mind.
      - Jesus does not love all, did not die for all, does not want all to be saved? What?????
      - God decrees that a child was abused?
      - From out of the womb the majority of people are born with ZERO choice, but were created only to glorify God in hell for eternity?
      - Their leader John Calvin's favorite wood to use to burn those who disagreed with him was green wood? (It burnt slower).
      - To believe on your own is a "works-based salvation"? What????
      - Their god hates most people but calls us to love our enemies?
      - Anytime you see the word "ALL" and "WORLD" in the bible it always means "elect"?
      - We are called "universalists" because we believe Jesus died and wants all to come to Calvary?
      - And on and on and on...
There is zero good news in this Calvinist toxic doctrine. Don't fall for Calvinism. Jesus CLEARLY SAID we have a will to choose. John 7:17... "If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority."

@@directorjames1855 God chooses all for salvation? Where is that written? Sounds like universalism, if it is up to the human being to be saved, we wouldn't be. Even John 3:16 is an exclusionary statement. ONLY those who believe receive eternal life. The order of the golden chain of salvation in Romans cannotbe separated. Order matters. Jesus even said those who don't believe do so BECAUSE they are not His sheep, they refuse to believe. Notice the order: He didnt say that they refuse to believe and therefore are not the sheep. Other way around. He purposefully doesn't reveal truth to some, he even says so explicitly to the disciples. He knows those who won't believe so He doesn't expose them to condemnation further by giving them the truth. On and on we could go with evidences
Saying Jesus died for everyone but not everyone is saved means only one thing: there are people in Hell who Jesus died for but they did not "accept" salvation. In their case, Jesus' death was not enough.

I went to different churches as an adolescent but was never welcomed. Not surprising, i also never fit in at school and went to 11 different ones trying to escape constant bullying. A friend invited me to a Christian outreach disquised as a coffeehouse where rock bands played and who occasionally testified about Jesus. I eventually realized God existed. I had gotten stoned and realized the remarkable beauty of the girl i was skipping class with could not have happened by accident, nor anything else living or in nature. As a 10th grade society outcast, i subsequently became a self inspired God seeking transcendentalist and went to California fleeing possible drug charges, and ended up living next to rock-n-roll royality and began practicing Buddhism where i felt entirely welcomed despite my anticultural identity. (Hardly anyone believed in God in the wealthy California onclave where I ended up living). In my journey to be close to God, I inadvertently called on the name of Jesus. I was desperate to not miss my ride to a Buddhist meeting. That's when the scriptures were fulfilled about whosoever will call, and God soaked me in his joy and peace that reached deeper into my innermost longings than i could have ever imagined. Not long after, i visted my coffeehouse friend back in the states to tell him of my experience and spiritual enlightenment. That’s when he rejected my claim, opened the scriptures, and I realized Jesus was no prophet or holy man, but the source of all life and the sole redeemer of all mankind by his blood and resurrection.

What do you mean by "TOTAL depravity?" Calvinists always leave the phrase of "total depravity" more or less open ended because they have no biblically based definitive absolute interpretation or explanation as to what it means.
    >> T - "Total Depravity;"
Calvinist claim that no one can act in faith until they're born again, yet people did; see Hebrews chapter 11 (not to mention the whole Old Testament filled with records of non-born again people acting in faith contrary to Calvinist false doctrine). Jesus strongly refutes the Calvinist false doctrine of "total depravity" in this scripture as clear as it as it can be...
"Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" - John 1:47 KJV
    Or...
"Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!" - John 1:47 NKJV
NOTE: Nathanael was a man of NO guile, NO deceit; he was NOT "totally depraved." A person without guile is a person of innocence, honest intent, and pure motives, whose life reflects the simple practice of conforming his daily actions to principles of integrity.
Also, David was called "A man after God's own heart." "The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart” (1 Sam. 13:14). The second time was by the Apostle Paul who recounted Israel's history, “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will” (Ac. 13:22).
Calvinism claims that man is totally depraved and cannot choose to believe, the Bible says man can “do good.”
Luke 6:33 - "And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same."
The Bible says man can believe...
Revelation 22:17 -"And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely."
Yet, believing is not a good work...
Romans 4:5-7 - "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered."
ALSO, no one was born again UNTIL Jesus rose from the dead...
1 Peter 1:3 - "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,"
NOTE: "by the resurrection of Jesus Christ"... no one was regenerated UNTIL Jesus rose from the dead.
"begotten" is the same as "born again," "born of God," "regenerated," etc. David, as an example. was NOT regenerated (born again) until Jesus rose.

A very needed message that all of us need to hear. Not everyone stepping up the pulpit or just trying to evangelize is going to have all the necessary gifts to present the message. Fortunately God already provided us with the script - the Bible, Old and New testaments. Some are able to memorize it, some can’t, but study it so that you can, know where to look, and reference it, read aloud to others. The Apostles in the days following the Resurrection eloquently presented the message and folks were inspired to write it all down. Worth repeating over and over again. And praying for God to work in the lives of others rather than burdening ourselves with worry about our own perceived inadequacies and failures.

This, is one of the best ways you can tell you're saved. If you believe that you are a sinner bound for hell, until or unless you receive Christ, and become Born Again. And then, once you get saved, if you believe that you are still wallowing in sin, asking God to help you toss sin out of your life, piece by piece, then you are quite likely saved, as a Lost person wouldn't even think there's anything at all wrong with them. If you look at yourself, and you see that you got this sin, you got that sin, and you want rid of those sins... you're probably not Lost.

    • @Dhalin
      @Dhalin Před 3 měsíci +1

Also, if you preach the Gospel and a Lost person doesn't receive it and/or rejects it... we know they will go to Hell. However, preaching the Gospel to such a person wasn't "useless" or of "no effect" ... God promises in the Bible that *ALL* are without excuse. When a lost person rejects the Gospel and chooses to be an enemy to God, God can rightly judge this person, and that person will have zero ability to say anything at all against the Judgment at the White Throne. And there's always some chance that even if someone rejects the Gospel when you preach it to them, the seed was planted and God might introduce some major life-changing event in their lives that causes them to change their minds later on.

What if I told you that God created sin and that He ordains and is responsible for every murder, every rape, and every heinous evil act ever committed? You’d say that’s heresy right?! And I totally agree, but under Calvinism that statement is unequivocally true. You don’t believe me, right? Well, just read for yourself then. In fact, I didn’t know this up until recently either and so I feel compelled to share.
    John Calvin:
“Men do nothing save at the secret instigation of God, and do not discuss and deliberate on anything but what he has previously decreed with himself, and brings to pass by his secret direction.”
“The will of God is the chief and principal cause of all things.”
“But where it is a matter of men’s counsels, wills, endeavours, and exertions, there is greater difficulty in seeing how the providence of God rules here too, so that nothing happens but by His assent and that men can deliberately do nothing unless He inspire it.”
“What we must prove is that single events are ordered by God and that every event comes from his intended will. Nothing happens by chance.”
    Calvinist Theologian R.C. Sproul Jr.:
“God wills all things that come to pass…God desired for man to fall into sin. I am not accusing God of sinning; I am suggesting that God created sin.”
    Calvinist Theologian J.I. Packer:
“God orders and controls all things, human actions among them…He [also] holds every man responsible for the choices he makes and the courses of action he pursues… Man is a responsible moral agent, though he is also divinely controlled; man is divinely controlled, though he is also a responsible moral agent. To our finite minds, of course, the thing is inexplicable.”
    Calvinist Theologian Gordon Clark:
“I wish very frankly and pointedly to assert that if a man gets drunk and shoots his family, it was the will of God that he should do it… Let it be unequivocally said that this view certainly makes God the cause of sin. God is the sole ultimate cause of everything. There is absolutely nothing independent of him. He alone is the eternal being. He alone is omnipotent. He alone is sovereign. Some people who do not wish to extend God’s power over evil things, and particularly over moral evils…The Bible therefore explicitly teaches that God creates sin.“
Calvinist Theologian Mark Talbot (included in “Suffering and Sovereignty of God” by John Piper):
“God brings about all things in accordance with his will. It isn’t just that God manages to turn the evil aspects of our world to good for those that love him; it is rather that he himself brings about these evil aspects… This includes God’s having even brought about the Nazi’s brutality at Birkenau and Auschwitz as well as the terrible killings of Dennis Rader and even the sexual abuse of a young child.”
    Calvinist Theologian James White:
In a debate with Hank Hannegraaf and George Bryson, Mr White was asked, “When a child is raped, is God responsible and did He decree that rape?” To which Mr. White replied: “Yes, because if not then it’s meaningless and purposeless and though God knew it was going to happen he created it without a purpose… and God is responsible for the creation of despair… If He didn’t [decree child rape] then that rape is an element of meaningless evil that has no purpose.”
John Wesley said about this doctrine (and I concur) that it makes God worse than the devil. He said that at least with the devil, you know what you’re getting, but under Calvinism, there’s a duplicity to God where on the one hand he is good and loving and kind and compassionate but on the other, He is the cause of all evil in the world. And so He is both the light and the darkness, making him worse than the devil because then the one that you rely on for all things good is also the one who ordains/compels you to sin and also ordains/causes all evil upon you and the rest of his saints. In fact, under this doctrine, God doesn’t even need the devil if you think about it. It’s really sick in my opinion and I believe it should be rejected. After all, does that sound like “Good News” to you???
Believe me folks, I take absolutely zero pleasure in posting this, especially on here because I absolutely love Todd, but I was Reformed up until I learned of just how far Calvinism takes absolute sovereignty and so I think people should be able to see it for themselves and then decide to embrace or reject it. I genuinely love all my brothers and sisters in Christ and that is the reason that I share this. I say that honest before the Lord God Almighty. And if you agree that this doctrine is dangerous, then I might encourage you to tell other professing Calvinists/Reformed about it so they can decide for themselves because I don’t think most Calvinists know that this is what Calvinism actually teaches. I know I didn’t. And to anyone who would say that I’m just trying to malign Calvinism, I’m doing nothing more than simply providing quotes from Calvin himself and from theologians who subscribe to his teachings.
You can just Google “calvinist quotes on God determining all evil” to see more as well as the references for the above quotes. A theology in tension is the website and I have no connection to it just as an FYI. Side bar… he says “Welcome to Arminianism” on the webpage but that’s not the only alternative view to Calvinism. I know we’ve all been conditioned to shun that word and personally I’ve been studying the traditionalist view, which aligns with people like CS Lewis and AW Tozer. Lord bless.

Total depravity is not a Christian doctrine. This doctrine came from John Calvin who got it from Augustine. He imported this concept from Manichean Gnosticism, which he was a member of in his early life. Every early church father taught that we have free will and are able to choose salvation. Being dead in our sins is simply a metaphor used to describe our separation from God due to our sinful nature. Every reference in scripture to predetermination, election and chosen refers to service. The bad doctrine of theology that calvinists came up with was they ignore the part where it says for knowledge. In other words predestined through foreknowledge means that God knows who would and would not be saved, the calvinists believe God will actually block you from being saved.
This is why John MacArthur never knows if he is saved or not, he believes his works would save him. Or at least he hopes his works saves him.
    Calvinism is bad theology.
Does this mean that somebody who's a calvinist is not saved, no of course not. But if you reject the assurance of salvation that Jesus continuously talks about, then you would never be assured of your salvation until the day you die.
