The politics would be higher IMO and the action would be far more impactful to the viewer given the consequences of each bout.

Comments like this make me really think to myself if people have watched any of the content they’re discussing 😂 Just because HOTD is a little more highbrow in terms of it’s content and delivery does not inherently make it better, or even more enjoyable than other shows. There are plenty of philosophical and extremely compelling elements to both the Boys and the Bear, wether you want to talk about characters and their relations with each other (which often results in some pretty intense moments of dialogue), or their commentary on our current state of the world. If you don’t enjoy those shows then that’s totally fine, just don’t put people down for being able to find the excellence in a show that you can’t. Also I agree with the Acolyte statement, that’s a completely fair assessment of that show 😂 but comparing the boys and the bear to that level of incoherent storytelling is just tone deaf.

You're comparing apples to oranges here. "House Of The Dragon" is Fantasy Drama based on a Fantasy book whereas "Shogun" is Historical Drama based on a novel which itself draws on real events and people in Japan's history. James Clavell changed the character names from the real historical figures who were involved in the winding down of the Sendoku Period Civil Wars. As to your comment about "action to match", I'll say this. The Battle of Sekigahara wasn't in the novel or the 1980 original miniseries. Only its aftermath and resolution was... I certainly wasn't looking for it since staging that battle would have broken the series' budget. It would've required several hundred background performers, a long list of stunt men and the balance would've been one hella lot of CGI at the level of the rest of the show, to pull it off that action-set piece. FYI: Historians have stated from archival records, that battle involved around 166, 000 warriors.

as a fan of george's books and the shows, i find that people who didn't appreciate shogun largely don't know the historical context of that time period and culture. if you guys understood even a third of the unspoken cultural subtext of shogun, you'd realize how incredibly rich it is as a show, underneath all the character arcs that are the most obvious to viewers who aren't that knowledgeable in the history of it.

I see alot of people asking why Rhaenys went back and i think i have an answer.Rhaenys the entire show has been working towards peace and begrudging war to the men. I think that for her she knows that a drawn out war using dragons will not only cost the realms 100s of thousands if not millions but the the people she loves most like her granddaughters and husband. In this moment i think she thought that she had already slain aegon and if she could kill aemond she would essentially be ending the war at the very beginning. In the the end i think she thought even if i go down killing aemond and vhagar right here right now it would spare her grandchildren from the horror of having to face this deadly duo themselves. This could have been a deathblow to the greens before they even got started with no aemond or aegon they have no dragon riders that they are willing to send into battle left.

Alicant cant take the throne - unless they retcon the established Westrosi inheritance laws shown in the show + GOT itself - for the same reason Marjorie didn't take it when Joffery died, or Cersei when Robert did. Titles are transfered through blood relation, not marriage. Alicant has NO CLAIM on the throne, it doesn't matter if she was married to the former title holder - the title was never hers or that of her lignage.
(of note, Cersei did not inherit the throne from Tommen child-to-parent, she claimed it via conquest when he died, as her family's army was in Kings Landing and nobody was around who could stop her crowning herself)
Aegon gained the throne from his father. If he dies without a son it goes to his younger brother (Aegon does have a daughter left, but the the Green's whole reason for the war is they are ideologically opposed to female inheritance rights). Alicant, a woman with no legal claim on a title, cannot usurp it from a clear male heir - both by the laws of Westori succession and the Green's own ideology, both established in prior episodes.
Even if Aegon didn't have a brother it would then, by the Green's own male--preference laws, by-pass his daughter and two sisters (Rhaenyra and Helaena), then go to Aegon's eldest nephew - ie Rhaenyra's sons, of which she has 4 remaining in the show (even if we discount her two remaining eldest Strong-boys as b****ds, her two youngest boys with Deamon are clearly legitimate). And, if all her sons were already dead, it would go from Aegon back up the family to his uncle, Deamon. And if Deamon was dead, only then would they it need to be decided whether it goes to Rhaenyra as eldest female relative.... or try and track down some long-lost distant male relative.
Ultimately, it would be completely lore-breaking if the next episode has Alicant sitting on the throne over her living son in the event Aegon was dead, because she has no rights to it, and even if she did have a blood-claim, her camp is ideologically opposed to female-inheritance.
