    5. Glenlivet founders reserve
    4. Jameson
    3. Glenfiddich 12
    2. Glen Moray Elgin Classic
    1. Glenmorangie original 10

    Great video Vin. I don’t drink much bourbon, being Scottish I’m very biased. I’m glad you talk about your budget, as I am stumped at how some folk can drink £100+ whiskies on a school night.

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  Před 5 lety +3

      Me too! I've only spent over 100 twice and I won't rush to do it again. I'm lucky enough to be able to try some amazing things sometimes too, but I always spent less than £50 when I'm buying my own bottle

    The five whiskies always on the shelf Glenlivet 12, Laphroaig Select, Talisker 10, Monkey Shoulder, Ardmore Legacy + Blanton’s Private Reserve and Ron Zacappa Solera 23.
    What about travel and duty free buys? Coming from Australia (massive tax) but living in Japan; constantly making lists and reassessing what three bottles to take in my suitcase back. Battling between low price age statement scotch, rarer independent bottlings or third of the (Aus retail) price Japanese single malts. What are your three go-to travel buys? Old favourites, something new, take a gamble, travel exclusives or local wares - it’s tough 😆

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  Před 2 lety

      To be honest it's been a few years since I travelled so I'm not sure whats about at the moment, but before covid I started finding the travel retail selection very poor indeed. Hopefully it's picked up a bit since

  • @quailingvoss

    That's a nice little group of whiskeys, I appreciate that you gave Tomatin Dualchas/Legacy a spot, it's always around my bottles when I want that easy, enjoyable sipper. I'd have it over something such as Glenmorangie Original in the same price range.

    Elijah Craig Small Batch
    Lot No. 40

      I've never gotten on with the Mac 12 but other than that your list is spot on. Wish I could have included some Canadian in this list but it's just too much effort to get to be a go to for me

  • @foodquig
    @foodquig Před 5 lety +2

    Interesting choices, but they are very different from mine... I like how you explained why. It's always a balance of quality and price.

  • @jasonwest9425
    @jasonwest9425 Před 2 lety +1

    Dewar’s 15 year, JW Black Label, Glen Grant 12, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Highland Park 12. The first 2 I can generally get in 1.75 l. bottles cheap so that they are easy to have around.

  • @Megawatt
    @Megawatt Před 5 lety +2

    Solid list. I'd drop the Black Label, only because of the price increases. I also feel that Knob Creek is a bit more of a question mark now that the age statement has gone bye bye, but maybe I'm also a little bored of it. I would probably add a Canadian whisky like Gooderham & Worts Four Grain, maybe Jim Beam Bonded in place of the Knob Creek as it is a better value. Redbreast Irish might also make an appearance on my list.
    Of course, when I think of go-to whiskies I'm thinking of something budget-conscious. If budget is less of a consideration, my list might look like this: Cragganmore 12, JP Wiser's Dissertation, Talisker 10, Redbreast 12, and Booker's bourbon.

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  Před 5 lety +1

      I'd love to be able to include Canadian and Irish but I've experienced so little of what they have to offer. Hopefully that'll change as the years go by!
      I had though about making a separate video on slightly more expensive ones. We'll see!

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  Před 5 lety

      The rock oyster is 👌👌 I've been lucky enough to try the cask strength and 18 yr versions of it too. Nikka from the barrel is probably my favourite Japanese whisky but it didn't quite make the list. Close though!

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  Před 5 lety +1

      @@WhiskyInThe6 That's true, and I still don't understand why that is. However if Ontario liquor stores go private I believe the low prices in Alberta will become no more as Ontario will be taking in a lot more bottles going forward and Alberta will be second banana to Ontario as for as selection and possibly pricing. I've never taken our low prices for granted and there will be a day when Alberta's low prices will be no more.

  • @maltedbarleyman7834
    @maltedbarleyman7834 Před 5 lety +1

    Great video. I don't really have set go to whiskys since I'm always trying new ones, but from my current collection I would say Glencadam 10, and when it gets cold I go for the Ardbeg 10. I live in Florida, so it doesn't get cold too often. By the way, sweet Lego Tie Fighter. I have Vader's Tie Fighter and the Snowspeeder.

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  Před 5 lety +1

      I love the Ardbeg 10 but as you say, it needs a certain situation. I like the peat monster because it's easy going enough for most times.
      The tie fighter gets centre stage because it took me so damn long to build 🤣

    • @uilleachan
      @uilleachan Před 5 lety +1

      @@NoNonsenseWhisky I hope so too, but I'm not holding you responsible if I don't and for £30, I think it worth the risk. If not I'm bound to have a visitor who will, even if thats with coke n' ice.
      To be honest I subscribe here because you review stuff that's within your budget, which is refreshingly modest, and as a semi-regular whisky drinker I can't afford to drink sixty-quid-a-pop-deoch as my semi-regular house swally. So always on the lookout for something decent at the lower cost end of the market, so nothing ventured nothing gained. Plus having a few cheaper bottles stacked at the front of my cupboard acts as a decoy for the much more expensive stuff stacked at the back, least I rock home form the pub in a reckless mood.

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  Před 5 lety +1

  • @DeerHunter308
    @DeerHunter308 Před 5 lety +1

    I have had 3 out of the 5 mentioned. Knob Creek was a cask strength that I would rate very high. J W Black is pretty good. Compass Box Monster is one of my "always have in the inventory" too. But, oddly the Peat Monster was only really good straight, with no water added. As I am in the US, I doubt I will ever find any Cotswolds. But will pick up some Tomatin if I see it. Overall this was a very interesting Video. Thanks
