- Adam welcomes @kylehill to the cave for the very special One Day Build collaboration! Kyle purchased one of the original MythBusters blueprints in the recent auction benefiting the Grant Imahara STEAM Foundation, and brought this piece up to San Francisco to chat with Adam about its use on the show and to build a custom display for it!

This was incredible.. the frame looks like it lived its life on a mythbusters set and over time, got used and abused... some idiot shot it with an arrow and dropped it, so it needed to be duct taped in the corner.. seriously LOVE the design. I truly think you did that blueprint justice!
Ha! When Kyle is on the show, Kyle serves the Adam role, and Adam serves the Jamie role. How weird for Adam to be the straight man. :-D
Adam and Kyle is a great combination!!
His Bob Ross is amazing 12:56
Adam and I have wanted to do something together for years, and this felt like a literally perfect opportunity. It was a dream come true to build something with a friend and hero, and weaving the experience together with the memory of Grant and MythBusters made everything more emotional, more impactful than I could have imagined. The display now hangs in my home, in a place of honor!
I SAW UR COMMENT ON THE OTHER VIDEO LMAO
Every part of this was great! Also, your adam impression is spot on.
make it into an edh table
Thanks for bringing this out for us to see!
Mythbusters reboot with Adam and Kyle. Bring Tori and Kari back. Throw Alan Pan into the mix for the chaotic Grant vibes. Please. Please.
The way Adam and Kyle are and act around each other makes it look like a father-and-son project and I love it.
It reminds me of the way me and my dad do projects together.
That brings back a lot of happy memories for my time with my own dad.
age wise it would work and growing up with mythbusters it also functionally fits
9:38 that Adam impersonation was HILARIOUS !
i cackled out loud so hard at that part.
It was so on point
All that was missing was a little whistle as he mentally put one thing into another thing.
Bob Ross -imitations were spot on as well. 😆
the only way that wouldve been better if adam was right next to him
I can't stop smiling at watching these two together. Them working on immortalizing a piece of Grant's work makes it all the better.
All hail the TARDIS/Idris/Sexy!
Also yes I couldn't stop smiling as well
(Those other two are names the TARDIS went by briefly in the show. Episode name The Doctors wife)
I'm subscribed to both and for good reason, they're both legends in their own right.
As Kyle works the "lived" duct tape and Adam is all "YES, YES!" And also, only Adam Savage using staples to attach duct tape.
Had to be done mechanically. Duct tape is many things, but environmentally durable is not one of them. A bit of gauzy residue doesn't have near the same visual impact, when the film dries and falls off.
Kyle saying "Doctor..." while handing Adam a screw, and Adam answering "Thank you doctor." made my day.
Thanks for sharing this project with us! It's nice to be reminded about Grant while still being put in a fun, goofy mood!
I read this comment at the exact moment they said that part 😂
23:49 👍🏼
For future reference Adam get a sock and fill it with random nuts and bolts and nails and use that to tap all over the wood to distress it. The sock method creates very random dents and dings for the distressing method. Many years of fine cabinetry experience talking here.
The Sam Pucket butter sock but with screws, amazing idea!
Thats a thing? What would happen if you didnt tho
As someone who has no experience in this what so ever
@@cherrydragon3120 what would happen if you didn't smack a 2x4 with a bunch of steel in a sock? probably just wouldn't look like you smacked it with a bunch of steel in a sock :p
It also works as a weapon 😂
@@jelloshot hihihihihihihihehehehehahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!😂
Adam's production background really shows in the speed at which he works.
That's something I've noticed too, most of the people he has on the show for a team build has everyone else frantically trying to keep up with his blistering pace. It's so impressive to me that Adam has such a wide knowledge and experience to work so fast and yet his work comes out exactly as he envisioned it
Kyle giggling like any of us would while hanging out with Adam is so heartwarming 😄
Adam and Kyle were sandpapering and "damaging" the frame while laughing and having a good time. And I almost started crying. I had the sudden image of Grant sitting on the top shelf, clapping and laughing and kicking his heels. Because he is so pleased and happy.
Thank you Kathryn, that is a really nice image
Not only is this an absolute gem to watch, I have never heard Kyle swear and Adam rarely.
But here it is. I love it. It's so...raw.
kyle swearing was definitely my favorite part.
This is why i love watching Adam's videos
Kyle seems to do it more in his live shows but yea for both of them to be so comfortable to ease up on their typical rules of presentation and be more relaxed is a special treat for all those watching for sure.
I remember Adam talking before about how he actually swears allot and that’s actually why they don’t have a lot of myth busters behind the scenes brain storming sessions of episode ideas because he thought that having the cameras and not letting that flow of consciousness happen would take away from the brain storming.
If they ever brought back Myth Busters with the majority of the old cast... I can't think of a better addition to the crew than Kyle.
RIGHT!
If the show was still running I'm all but certain he would have become part of the team
@@Raven-um2wf is the show still running?? Or did they just do the search for a new mythbuster team for nothing lol
@@cherrydragon3120 From what I recall, the "New Mythbusters" ran for a season or two before getting canceled. It wasn't the same, though I wouldn't say it was bad. Just didn't feel right, especially after all of the buildup of the last season.
There are still 2 episodes of the reboot that never got released.
the "mistake" on the back is what really sells it for me that this is mythbusters certified
Hearing a grown man call Adam Savage his "childhood hero" boggles my mind, since I was old enough to buy alcohol and rent a car when Mythbusters first aired. Adam Savage is still my mid-20's hero, though.
I was 14 when MB aired and now my knees hurt
@J5, same here. It's... confusing.
When mythbusters aired i was 3. Now i'm a year away from finishing university lmao
Same, I was in my early 20s.
I was too young to watch the show when it first aired, but being in my mid-20s now I can still call him my mid-20s hero :)
You guys just officially made this one of the most valuable pieces of artwork in the world. Grant Imahara, Adam Savage, and Kyle Hill all contributing to one piece of work that originally came from Mythbusters. I cannot begin to tell you how jealous I am.
I really like that. Thank you.
Kyle is clearly having a “what the hell are we doing” moment!
More colabs please. Adam and Kyle has so much chemistry together. Great build, and awesome tribute to Grant.
17:55 And here we have, on camera at least, Kyle Hill's first ever "What The Hell Am I Doing?" Mythbusters moment, that happened often with the other hosts throughout the series' run.
I still have no clue on what they are doing
Hearing Kyle curse has to be one of the best things from his other videos. Seeing him with the One and Only Adam Savage is also amazing. Childhood fan, so glad he’s doing videos and with Kyle Hill. Makes my day so much better.
Measuring the blueprint with his arm during the impression of Adam had me dying laughing.
His entire imitation of Adam was spot on, start to finish. The arm measuring was the cherry on top. I can imagine Adam having a good laugh when he saw that.
Hi Adam. I have a suggestion for an easy upgrade for your table saw. Replace the On-Off switch with a paddle switch. That way you can turn the saw off with your thigh once a cut is done. It's much safer than fumbling for the button while the blade is going and is more efficient.
If he can’t retrofit a riving knife, that table saw needs to be scrapped, or converted into something that is less likely to cut his fingers off or shoot pieces of wood into his gut. I know he doesn’t want to maim himself on that thing, but he’s giving it a damn good try every week, in front of 5 million subscribers. Irresponsible.
@@mm9773 I cringe every time I see him at that saw. A riving knife as a minimum, but a blade guard and an outfeed table of some sort would be on my must have list too. A more robust push block wouldn't hurt either!
@@ay8306 Look bud my grandfather had diagonal stumps instead of fingers on half a hand because of a table saw, lost em back in the 60's. I've used power tools my entire life and i've never been scared of a table saw any more than the necessary and healthy amount of fear and respect a dangerous tool deserves, even seeing the results of an accident first hand (ha, hand, get it? cause he lost...never mind). Just don't put your hands on or near the spinny sharp bit, and take your time. Only way to maim yourself with a tablesaw is to stop paying attention or start rushing. That saw of adams is in a pretty difficult spot though, i'm definitely not arguing that. I think though if *you* want a guard, an outfeed table, a larger push stick and a riving knife, be my guest, but don't go around telling others *they're* doing it wrong because *you're* scared. If you think that table saw needs improvements, I could show you some of the tools/equipment and some of the stuff that goes on at backwoods farms, you'd faint. I planted 20,000 strawberry plants with a 1950's or 60's holland transplanter one year, and if i'd moved my leg just a couple inches to the left it was going right into all of the moving parts of the machine, and the job required you to move quickly. No guards, no safety belts/harnesses, no safety switch, and you're not in control of the speed. It's just you, a hunk of metal thats out of your control and determined to eat you, and a load of plants that needed to go in. That's something tame i'm willing to write about, it gets so much worse but I'm not gonna go there. Live a little, stop worrying so much, educate yourself about the dangers of whatever you're doing and trust yourself.
@@michaeldaigle7207 your fingers, your choice.
After thinking about this for a bit, I decided that it might be worthwhile to provide a less flippant response so that those who are less familiar with table saw safety will understand what the fuss is about. I have nearly 4 decades worth of experience using a table saw and while I am not afraid of them, I do have tremendous respect for the amount of harm they can inflict if you lose your focus for even an instant. The safety features being discussed here are far from extreme and nearly all woodworkers would consider them essential.
The riving knife is a feature that goes behind the blade and minimizes the chance of kickback. If you have never experienced it (I have) kickback can be terrifying and dangerous. It occurs if the workpiece catches on the back of the blade and is flung back at you faster than the eye can see. Once it starts, there is no way to stop it or control it. I was lucky and got hit with the flat side of the workpiece, leaving only a nice dark bruise. If you get hit edge on, you can easily be impaled. A riving keeps the workpiece from moving latterly into the back of the blade which is how kick back starts. Don't let someone tell you that you can hold the piece and control this, you can't, once it starts, the forces involved are just too great.
A more robust push block is critical to be able to safely control the workpiece as you move it into the blade. It also helps ensure that you get a smooth clean cut. It not only makes your woodworking safer, but help you to get better more accurate cuts. There are many designs each suited to different purposes and different types of operations. They are worth learning about.
An outfeed table is exactly what it sounds like, a surface on the outfeed side that supports the work as it is pushed through the blade. This will allow you to control the board as it nears the end of the cut and helps ensure that your cut is smooth. Again, not only does this make the operation safer, it helps ensue you a get a clean and accurate cut and keeps the workpiece from being damaged from falling on the floor. It doesn't need to be fancy, I just use a worktable that matches (or is slightly lower than) the height of my table saw table.
Finally, a blade guard is just basic common sense. No matter how careful you are, there is always a risk of something unexpected happening, and it only takes a tiny fraction of a second turn your hands into a bloody mess. Is it really worth the risk not to have such a basic feature installed? It doesn't mean I am somehow too scared to use my tool, it just means I see no need to take unnecessary risks.
There are other tools techniques you can use to improve safety and accuracy (like feather boards and auxiliary fences). If you are going to use a tool like a table saw, it is worth it to watch a few videos and learn how to safely get the best results.
Others here may disagree, and that is certainly their prerogative, but I think it is worthwhile to mention what these safety features are and why those of us who commented feel they are important. Most will not only increase your safety, but will also help you to get better results, and if it keeps even one of us out of the hospital, then the few minutes it took me to type this up were worth it.
OK, I'll get off my soapbox now 😀
Two people enjoying the process of making something that is perfectly imperfect. Great tribute to your friend Grant and to Mythbusters.
I think Grant would have really liked this framework
Kyle's imitation of Adam; him doing a Bob Ross impression then going into a genuine terrified look of the possibility of messing up; the mutual respect they have for each other; the chemistry; the project remembering and celebrating Grant...
So good, all of it
Watching Kyle interpret Adam´s mannerisms and movements may have caused be the happiest feeling I have experienced...#IMissMuskWatch
It's missing one thing! Instead of glass, the blueprint should be behind a layer of the plastic they used at bomb/shooting ranges!
If they could find a piece of one of the original shields with some "wear and tear" on it would be nice.
yeah it makes me incredibly unconfortable to see the paper so exposed
I was thinking a piece of plexiglass to replicate that. Cuz ballistics glass I'd imagine is expensive...
Do you know how expensive thick polycarbonate glass is? A piece that is large enough to fit the frame would cost somewhere around $1000, give or take a couple hundred bucks depending on exactly how thick it is.
@@michaeldaigle7207 I never said it was economically practical, just thematically perfect.🤷♂️
*now for a simultaneous collaboration with Mark Rober or Hacksmith Industries (preferably both at some point) for a truly amazing trifecta of geeky awesomeness...turned up to 11*
I think that may well go up to a 12. Adam would completely geek the feck out at the power loader.
Adam completely didn't get what Kyle was saying about beating up the wood out of context. Lol... if I even think about what he said I laugh. Just picture a video titled "How you build things" and it's a loop of them flip-flopping hammers and mallets/thwackers back and forth on wood. 😂
He seemed to, he just already had his mind on the story he wanted to tell.
It was funny yeah. I think Adam hasn't been enough on the internet to get the joke
Yes! Several minutes of this played completely straight, with giggles and dialog cut out, would be amazing.🤣
kyle's and adams humor and general character fit together soooo nicely, is there a petition somewhere to get kyle as a permanent sidekick to tested? :D
Kyle is like a younger version of Adam, he even talks like him. Has the same charisma, I’d like to see him in a potential Mythbusters reboot
Highly doubt it Discovery tried a reboot. It wasn't bad I just don't think it got the same following.
@@765mkojin3 Oh I was talking hypothetically, but I didn’t know they tried a reboot.
Yeah a reboot wouldn't work
Kyle was in the original MythBusters reboot in 2017. He hosted MythBusters: The Search.
@@765mkojin3 They've had three robots since 2017: MythBusters the Search (which Kyle hosted), MythBusters 2.0 and MythBusters Junior.
The Blueprint was already very special but getting in onto a frame built with Adam Savage that he signed and having video proof makes this item 10x more special then when it started. Great Video.
Talk about a prized possession full of meaning and importance.
Congratulations on getting something like that so early in life, Kyle.
I discovered Kyle through youtube. Never had imagined watching him alongside one of my lifetime heroes paying tribute to another hero. Tears and laughter. I can't thank you enough.
I saw Kyle on mythbusters the search.
Then later on Nerdist. And now he has his own channel.
This guy is living his dream
Bring him on more often Adam.
You 2 are fun to watch. 👍
PS. Psst, you forgot the gloves Adam. Don't tell Kyle.. don't think he noticed. 😳
🤣🤣
I'm not crying, you're crying! I love that I can feel the appreciation and love between the two of you and for Grant.
Mythbusters was one of the few shows I'd turn my video game off to catch and any episode dealing with swords had increased interest. Kyle Hill has filled the void that Mythbusters left in my life, since I discovered him in the void. I am so proud of Kyle for earning the recognition of the scientific community via CZcams. 👏
5 mins in and I smashed the like button so hard I cracked me screen protector, one of my favorite episodes, RIP Grant 🙏
An EXCELLENT TRIBUTE to Grant Imahara! I love Grants work and the Highlighting and expertise put into a great "Simple" piece! Have a good day Kyle & Adam! I'm sure Grant is enjoying it too.
What Adam said in the other video is so true watching this one. You can see that he really isn't trying to perform for the camera, just being himself and it is very much enough to be entertaining. Jaime was the same way in a very different style, entertaining to watch in his natural environment. There's just something so... calming just watching Adam making something. Being a huge fan of Kyle too, this was a very special set of videos to watch.
I’m really glad you noticed that
Such a touching episode and great way to immortalize Grant Imahara. Brought a tear to my eye at the end even. Loved Mythbusters, and think I'm gonna have to find a way to show my kids, when they get a bit older. Maybe it can spark an interest or even better, a career!
I LOVED THIS, AND REST IN PEACE GRANT IMAHARA!!! MEMORIES WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN
23:55 Love the “Doctor” nicknames, If I remembered correctly Adam and Grant used to call each other that.
Watching Yoda and Luke working together is brilliant.
It is an immense joy to get to see together two of my favorite science communicators out there😍. I was duct taped😉 to the screen every time a Mythbusters episode was on. It gave me the courage to get my hands dirty and also become a science comunicator myself in my community - I am about to launch a makerspace style workshop - I have half of Adam's videos about his workshop in my playlist 😁 The way Kyle is wondering about things, tackles complex topics and makes them approachable is also a source of inspiration. Keep on keeping on🤗
If Adam went inside Capitan America's capsule, Kyle would come out after the transformation! The same sense of humor, same dedication spirit!
Awesome living this experience with you guys!! 🙌
We need more of the two of them together. Please. It's so refreshing to see. Love how Adam takes Kyle under his wing like a new shop apprentice. Absolutely fantastic guys, for such a great cause! 👏
When two of my favorite CZcamsrs put out videos featuring each other on the same day, I know without a doubt that it's going to be a good day.
Seeing my "heroes" collaborate on projects is always a special treat. Thank you both! 😁✌️❤️🌎
Watching you guys work made me so happy! To Grant!
This really is 2 of the best men in the world put together. These 2 are idols of mine. It would be my dream to spend a day with them
There needs to be more Kyle and Adam colaberations in the world. You guys should do something about that I think.
watching Kyle work with what is essentially his Hero is so cute and i love this episode so much
I don’t watch Kyle much but his heart is shown here in full view as well as Adams, couldn’t help but cry whenever they talked about grant like a brother
Both of you are vary talented, and entertaining.
It is a joy to watch you.
I feel that either one of you could carry an hour of TV show, on your back!
It is a joy to listen to the show!!!
Lmao the Bob Ross impression had me dying
Adam is so beautiful to watch in his element cause he’s just so genuine and natural. You can tell he lives and breaths this work and I kick myself for only recently finding him again. I loved mythbusters but this seems so amazing better with him just being himself in his shop doing his thing. Tremendous
Everything about this is so incredibly wholesome and just tickles a part of my childhood memories like nothing else could. Like Kyle I grew up watching and loving the Mythbusters and like many others here I was deeply saddened by Grant's passing. I can't imagine a better way to preserve part of his legacy or a better home for it than with Kyle. Thank you both so much for bringing me such joy while watching the preservation of a part of Grant.
I was rivited while making dinner (and eating said dinner), and then watching them signing it to finalise the artwork was just food for the soul.
Mythbusters always satisfied that "how does it work" brain of mine, so watching Kyle (who I've watched since Because Science) and Adam put together their own personal memorial for Grant was beautiful.
Thank you so much for that generosity.
I love the Bob Ross meltdown: pretty mountains, don't worry if you mess up... in front of billions... (panic intensifies)
This project was beautiful. Kyle and Adam working together on something like this brought tears to my eyes, and I couldn't stop smiling the entire duration of the video. The shared image on the project with minimal discussion, both knew exactly where they should be going, the entire thing is just beautiful.
Thats what you get if you both have extensive knowledge on how a person was in taste and behaviour.
Grant was a friend to both of them.
Fcourse they would agree on alot of things.
Seeing Grant's name written again by a good friend of his gives me some sort of fantastical feeling. That notion of nobody truly dies until the last time their name is spoken/written; and seeing Grant's legacy live on.
Oh my god, Grant Imahara''s death keeps sucker-punching me. I think it's the absolute adoration he inspired in so many people I admire. He was smart. He was funny. And you can tell he was an amazing friend. His loss must be so keenly felt.
RIP Grant.
I always loved his excitement, energy and enthusiasm on the show. Always made me smile.
I already liked Kyle but a collab with Adam? I'm super jealous lol
9:36 I totally get that, I noticed in the intro you both holding yourselves in the same way. I do that all the time
There is something so satisfying about watching someone be so effortlessly good at project with someone who is average as a point of comparison.
Best mashup ever. Love the build, the piece, and the story it tells. Great work gentlemen. Thanks for all you do!
adams push stick made me think of my aunt's in her wood shop. her push stick is a piece of scrap with the words "this is a tool. dont throw away" scribbled in sharpie on it
Think I was smiling through that whole video. Didn't even realize it was over 30 minutes long. Such a great blueprint to frame like that, definitely one of the top episodes when I think of Grant!
Also loved the Bob Ross reference. Lol
You and Kyle are both a delightful pair of personalities and collaborators. Please try and make this a semi-regular thing.
this was something i needed in my life Kyle and Adam working with each other to help preserve a peace of a friends legacy.
This is the most satisfying interaction ever. Kyle's living the dream most of us dream of.
I love them both so much. Protected them at all cost
This is a wonderful video. Two icons, celebrating an icon, with an iconic build. CZcams doesn't get much better than this. Willing to bet Grant is smiling.
You two are ridiculously infectious with your enthusiasm!!
Fantastic collab you two~! As a dual fan, these two vids really are amazing to watch.
Absolutely need more Adam and Kyle content, this is great!
It's awesome when 2 creators you're subscribed to collaborate together for something.
I haven't watched any of the newest Mythbusters episodes since I guess I held a dissatisfaction that the original was no longer there. So I never knew Kyle Hill was from that show. I only recently had added him since I saw a video that looked interesting and said why not and subscribed once I realized I would probably watch at least a few more. Now I am going to have to watch the new episodes on Discovery Plus, assuming they are on there. I know the original series is on there since I watch them at least once a week or more.
When Adam was writing the message on the back, omg, Grant would of frickin loved this whole project.
That is a great piece of work! Seeing Adam's experience bubbling through is just amazing, form his background from art through sheer craftsmanship - just phenomenal! So happy for Kyle to cherrish this piece!
Watching these two together just melts my heart 😭
Hey Kyle and Adam: thanks for this. This really did my heart good - I love how the project turned out and I'm sure Grant would be pleased as well. Life is about making memories... Seems a great way to honor the past while immortalizing the present. Thanks for sharing with me.
I love this so much. So wholesome and real. This is the collaboration that we all needed - thank you for sharing!!
I love it it literally looks like Tori and Grant tried to make their mess pretty lol!!
This episode brought happiness and tears for what a talent we lost! I teared up when Adam wrote the info on the back.
Me too!
I absolutely loved this video! It had everything. Adam, Mythbusters memorabilia, Kyle, talk of better times and appreciation of Great People (i. e. Grant) Beatiful and awesome. Thank you to both Adam and Kyle. I honestly cried a little. :) thank you.
I feel incredibly enriched after watching this one. Thank you both for sharing the experience with us and for allowing us to vicariously enjoy the love and respect both of you have for Grant Imahara.
Yeah, I'd vacuum mount with easy release archival glue to acid free foam core, and use UV-resistant glass.
I didn't come here to cry, but here we are. I adore all three of you, what a lovely gesture. RIP Grant.
I just re-watched the first episode with Grant (airplane seat drop) last night and I have to admit, I got a little choked up. It was so nice to see Grant's enthusiasm, humor and of course that Imahara smile again. Thank you Kyle and Adam for making sure Grant's passion lives on forever.
There's something so genuine about how excited Kyle is, and full of childlike wonder, that he doesn't even stop himself from saying "cause it's fucking sandpaper"! Love this
There are 4 youtubers whose videos I check as soon as I get the notice and have a moment. These 2 are half of them. The other Half? Thoughty2 and Coffeehouse Crime. Thank you Adam and Kyle. I can't wait to hit play on this.
Yes! Give me all the Adam+Kyle collabs!
This is the collab I didn’t know I wanted!!! I love everything about this!!!
One of the greatest things about Adam is that you can absolutely tell that even after all his experience and success, he will spend all kinds of patient time working with someone to teach and share his knowledge with. He is a great person!
This was quite emotional for me to watch, for so many reasons - thank you so much!
Of course I have to watch this video while PMSing. 😭😭 What a lovely way to remember Grant and keep his legacy alive.
That was assembled on my 45th birthday! This was a great episode!
Awesome job, loved the look of the finished piece. At The Home Depot today, we reset the trigger clamp bay, I picked up the massive trigger clamp and wondered what you would use it for. Here is Adam using one!
Watching this just feels utterly wholesome! Knowing the date when the build was made was just icing on the cake for me, love it!
You guys work so well together - be great to see you have your own show proper👍
