Remember the specific ordering here is not as relevant as in the other videos, not putting any of these albums above eachother, this is a glance of my favorite ones I have!! With that I hope you guys enjoyed it, what’s your favorite record you own?! Cheers guys! 🙌🏻🔥
I'm only going to list one album per group, because otherwise it'd be eight Beatles albums -- Revolver (Beatles), Thick As A Brick (Jethro Tull), Night At The Opera (Queen), Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (Pink Floyd), Permanent Waves (Rush), Oranges And Lemons (XTC), Underwater Moonlight (Soft Boys), and Fragile (Yes)
When I was your age, the ones I wore out were Sgt Pepper and Who's Next. Your number one was the least surprising ever!
The Traffic album Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, and anybody who has it or ever seen it knows why.
Don’t listen to them hate on your love for DMB, Andy. They’re awesome 😊
The best album I've ever owned is actually a double album: Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". I promise you there is not one bad song on it. The Eagles "Hotel California" def deserves an honourable mention.
You may only have 30 of them, but hey, at least you are talking about ALBUMS.
Finally!
Well I love my music and have all them albums except two which I haven't heard so guess what I'm going to listen to them,so that's a real positive from you.
Rush - Moving Pictures AC/DC - Back in Black, Steely Dan - Aja, The Clash - London Calling
You nailed some of my favorites that I was going to list.
All correct George except... Highway to Hell over Back in Black.
It's your list dude. Don't worry about if other people agree with it.
Buddy Stewart , right? The political correctness is almost cute. But hey, it’s a public forum so gotta play it safe. Gotta make sure everyones o k. 🤮🥴
This! 👍🏻
On stuff to check out - Might be more of an Alex thing given his interest in production techniques but the guy that sound engineered Abby Road for the Beatles and produced Dark Side for Pink Floyd recorded several albums, and a few hits, with his own prog rock outfit - The Alan Parsons Project. Their first album was based entirely on the writings of Edgar Allen Poe. Songs to check out include the Raven, I Robot, Eye in the Sky....
I didn't know he was that engineer! Eye in the Sky was a huge radio song.
Yeah, definitely carried on the same Dark Side/WYWH aesthetic in his own work, but a little more pop than prog. Utterly enjoyable.
You shouldn't just hear Eye in the Sky. You must hear Sirius first which leads into Eye in the Sky.
Yes! I've been lobbying for that too. Saw them in KC a couple years ago, incredible show..
@@loosilu Lucie, the clocks in Time, the cash register in 'Money', even Clare Torry for "Great Gig in the Sky" is all Alan Parsons. He was crucial to the sound of that album.
There is no substitute to listening to the actual vinyl, even with it's hisses and crackles. It's almost like a ritual, trying to find the track you want, and then placing the needle on the record.
I remember recording a mixed blues cassette from my vinyl and I called it crackle. It sounded pretty cool with the hisses and crackles melding together it seemed like one album.
Good vinyl setup, no hiss or crackle.
JL Sagely, some of my old vinyl has too much Friday night and Saturday night abuse.
Sigh, I had the vinyl for many years but CDs are better if the engineer mixes it well, and they don't wear out!! I spent a lot of money on the best turntable and the best cleaners, the best cartridge with less than a gram of tracking force but in the end... they wear out.
Trying to find the track you want? What are you listening to that you need to skip songs???
I burned through four copies of ACDC's "Back In Black" as a teen back in the day. It is a MUST-have in any rock lover's collection. It's not the 2nd best selling album (globally) of all-time for nothing!
@Greg Scupholm I’ve been to many concerts but without a doubt AC/DC was the loudest concert I’ve ever been to. They were incredible and “Back in Black” is pretty much perfect front to back.
Oh, I am guessing you never made it to The Who in concert? Never saw AC/DC but would have loved to when Bon Scott was still alive.
@@michaelbochnia5686 correct, I've never seen The Who live. They are one of my favorites and it's high on my bucket list. I've heard that their shows are incredibly loud. Bon Scott had already passed when I saw AC/DC. But Brian Johnson was amazing. Seeing "For Those About to Rock..." live is something that every single rock fan should see.
@@allisonreed7682 I have seen The Who, it was an outside show in an amphitheater and was loud, but really not the loudest I attended. Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult was, that was a inside stadium and I am glad I brought ear plugs that night.
If you're ever in Fremantle W Australia we have a nice statue of Bon Scott...keep safe during this VIRUS CRISIS bye for now from Australia
"Selling England by the Pound" by Genesis. Absolute masterpiece.
Yes! An excellent album! Might I also add The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.
Totally agree guys, I’m dying for these guys to dive into more Gabriel era genesis. I think starting with selling England by the pound and foxtrot are a must but they should definitely do the lamb in its entirety. I don’t know much about the Phil Collins era of genesis (I knew about it before I every knew about the Gabriel stuff but never really got into it) but I honestly think they Gabriel stuff is way more interesting. And they’ve slowly been getting into more and more prog rock, I think more genesis and yes will get them hooked.
@@jeremydraper733 As far as Phil Collins era, give a listen to the following: Dance On A Volcano, Squonk, In That Good Earth, Afterglow, Down And Out, Undertow, Burning Rope, Behind The Lines, Turn It On Again, Duke's Travels, Duke's End, Me And Sarah Jane, Dodo/Lurker and Domino. There's a good chance you'll like most of that. Unless you really can't stand his voice.
Absolutely 100% agreed!
Chris DeLisle I’ve been meaning to check out some of the stuff between the lamb and duke to start with I just haven’t. But I don’t mind his voice. It’s not that I’m opposed to listening to the Phil Collins stuff I just haven’t yet. Just other stuff I’ve been getting into recently
Further proof that as long as there are college students, there will be Dave Matthews Band.
ouch. But fair. Still, he didn't say Phish...
"I find, sometimes, it's easy to be myself
Sometimes, I find, it's better to be somebody else" And let's just say I'm older than Paul-Martin Scheib.
Hahaha Touche!!! Well played.
You might like "Are You Experienced" even more if you know that it's not a compilation, but The debut album of The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
Yes, Third Stone from the Sun,freakin' awesome!
Fleetwood Mac - Rumors, The Cars - The Cars, Rush - Moving Pictures, Journey - Escape, Pink Floyd - The Wall, Def Leppard - Pyromania, Police - Synchronicity, Van Halen - 1984, Billy Joel - The Stranger, AC/DC - Back In Black just to name a few.
I have to agree with your list, but would add Billy Squier’s DONT SAY NO.
Fleetwood Mac RUMOURS is a necessary album for every classic collection. Its full of bangers and was a staple of my childhood.
Give Jethro Tull’s second album “Stand Up” a listen. Every song is solid. ✌️❤️🇪🇸
Thick as a brick is a great one for a full listen too. Obviously aqualung is a must but TaaB, benefit, and Passion play are also so essentials from the Tull discography
@@jeremydraper733 - "Benefit" makes the top of my JT list.
I agree. Benefit is excellent
I have every Tull album still from Crest of a Knave back to This Was. Stand Up and Benefit are my two favorites. Hard to choose which one I like more, changes every so often. Never gets old, both are special Tull albums.
Yep...how about...
Songs From The Wood
Emerson, Lake and Palmer: Brain Salad Surgery, Jethro Tull: Aqualung, Deep Purple: Machine Head, Genesis: Foxtrot
ELP: BSS! Integral album!
Brain Salad Surgery is one of the best album names of all time.
@@thebadfairiesmademedoit also one of the best album covers of all time!
I'd have a hard time picking any one of ELP's early stuff, it's very mood dependent, but I tend to go for the Emerson stuff over the Lake stuff.
@Mr Blimp so was I, Keith was a keyboard god in my eyes, with Wakeman, Lord and Manzarek, close behind. Did you ever listen to Triumverat? A German clone of ELP, but I liked some of their stuff.
Come on Man no Zep! Take your pick, my fav is Physical Graffiti.
Houses of the Holy holds a place in my heart. Takes me back to my spring of '87 listening to it going to and from high school.
Another on my list of favs!!!
See my list PG #1
Its his favorite album he OWNS.
You hit the nail on the head, man!
Dark Side Of The Moon has been my go to, number one album of all time. bought id in '73 and have gone through many copies since then. 8 tracks, vinyls, cassettes, cd's. 47 years is a long time but the album never gets old.
Without a doubt... Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street, The Who - Quadrophrenia, Humble Pie - Rockin' the Fillmore. All three essential Double Albums.
Rockin the Filmore is in my collection. A young Peter Frampton jams on it.
Damn, you nailed it.
Exile and Quadrophenia are on my all-time Top 20 list.
You seemed to like Livin' Thing by ELO, you should get their album "A New World Record." It was my introduction to the band back in '77 (released in 76) and it blew me away.
Very excited to see you guys tackle more full albums. Definitely some records in your top 8 that I haven't heard.
R.E.M- Document, Life’s Rich Pageant, and Reckoning.
If I could only get anyone to react to anything off of REMs 1st 3 albums. It's time for them to get they're due.
_Fables of the Reconstruction_
@@utubernow1 Indeed.
R.E.M. is my all-time favorite American band. I would add Murmur to your list.
Otis Dylan all R.E.M songs are welcome 😁
Andy, glad you didn't pander to us fossils and included some newer stuff which I'm going to check out. As far as complete albums some of my favorites are: Beatles Abby Road, Meatloaf Bat out of hell, ELO Eldorado, Genesis Trick of the tail, Frampton comes alive, Bob Seger Live bullett, Elton John Goodbye yellow brick road
Depeche Mode is fantastic!
Great video Andy I've been waiting for this. I actually suggested that you do a vinyl collection type video ages ago but showing off the the album artwork and actual vinyl record itself.
Some classic rock "essentials":
Eagles - Hotel California
Beatles - Revolver
Billy Joel - The Stranger
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Damn the Torpedoes
Huey Lewis & the News - Sports
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
AC/DC - Back in Black
Metallica - Metallica aka the "black album"
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Steely Dan - Aja
Carole King - Tapestry
Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet
Not rock, but must haves:
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
Pearl Jam ,Ten is a great album.
Uriah Heep, "Look at Yourself". i wore out a couple of these copies. The drummer on this album is a rock. This may seem strange to a lot of folks but take a listen to "Kimono My House" an album by a band called "Sparks". I couldn't help loving it.
Andy - Great Vid! 1979 I was in 7th grade, first time I heard Dark Side of the Moon. MAN! What an impact that had on me! Love that album.
I owned 4 of your 8 - Paranoid, Jimi Hendrix, Boston and Dark Side of the Moon, all of which I wore out, I played them so much. They were all among the first 30 or so albums I owned. Others I had and loved -- Who's Next, Quadrophenia, Zeppelin IV, Aqualung, Aerosmith's first album, Mahavishnu Orchestra (unbelievable jazz fusion rock with John McGloughlin as the guitarists), Santana's Moonflower, The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd, to name just a few. Great job, Andy. I love the idea behind doing your top albums.
Not in order, favorite albums in my teens ( and that’s a very long time ago):
Yes symphonic live
Camel - The snow goose
Tangerine Dream - White Eagle
Pink Floyd - The dark side of the moon
Jethro Tull - Bursting out
Klaus Schulze - X
Genesis - Nursery crime
Gentle Giant - Three Friends
David Bowie - Station to station
Deep purple - made in Japan
Grobschnitt - Solar music live
Pink Floyd - Wish you were here
Pink Floyd - Animals
The debut Cars album i wore out. Same with McCartney & Wings Band on the Run. Then Chicago's Greatest Hits album. Still think 25 or 6 to 4 is the greatest guitar solo ever.
Totally on my list!
Just now Rick Beato poster a video : 20 Best Début Albums of All Time. Dying to know if the Cars make it! No doubt Boston does.
@James C all great albums
Andy, loved your list! Here's mine from an old rocker growing up in the 70's. Many of these albums I wore out to the point of having to buy them TWICE! 1) Fleetwood Mac - Rumours 2) Ted Nugent - Ted Nugent 3) Eagles - Hotel California 4)Jethro Tull - Songs From The Wood 5) Boston - (Debut) 6) Styx - The Grand Illusion 7) Rush - 2112 8) REO Speedwagon - You Can Tuna A Piano But You Cant Tune a Fish 9) Foreigner - (debut) 10) Foghat - Live.
Keep up the great work!
Albums I wore out as a kid. I have to include tapes and 8 tracks too.
In no particular order: Wednesday’s album, ELO’s A New World Record. The Cars - The Cars, Boston - Boston, Pink Floyd - The Wall, CCR - Chronicles, Neil Young - Decade, Fleetwood Mac - Rumours, Eagles - Hotel California, The Long Run, Eagles Live, Poco - Legend, Gerry Raferty - City to City, Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees, Steely Dan - Aja, Steve Miller - Book of Dreams, Alan Parsons Project - Tales of Mystery and Imagination, Styx - The Grand Illusion, Paradise Theater, Supertramp - Crime of the Century, Breakfast in America, Rolling Stones - Especially Exile on Main Street, Sticky Fingers and Some Girls, Dire Straits - Making Movies (!!!), Alchemy, Love Over Gold, Zeppelin, Floyd (separate from The Wall which is its own special kind of obsession), The Beatles and Neil Diamond (mom),
Have to add Elton’s GH volume 1&2, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Madman Across the Water, Alice Cooper - Welcome to My Nightmare, Gary Wright - Dream Weaver, and UFO - Lights Out
Wow, glad you're doing vinyl-- a lot of 70's music was arranged to take advantage of seamless transitions (like Dreamboat Annie) and even overlaps (like James Gang Rides Again). Plus, the sequence of the songs was a part of the artistic presentation-- you'd have a quieter song as a creative interlude between two rockers. Not to mention the album covers and sleeves! And, face it, if you're going to have a turntable, you're also going to provide the other components that let you get the most from it, like excellent speakers. The digital world gave us convenience, but it took away some of the art.
Back when I was a student, dudes got together to build monster speakers for their stereo system in mom and dad's basement that you couldn't even turn all the way up without breaking windows, LOL. Lots of fun times, spacing out to the music looking at the album cover. If you had told me back then that 40 years later people would have small speakers and head sets instead of the ultimate speakers I wouldn't have believed it.
I think the first real rock album I heard was Aerosmith's "Rocks" album, no pun intended. It was released in 1976 and I was 15 years old. I didn't own it, but I was mesmerized when a dirtbag friend played it for me. It's still a classic 44 years later. Hard rock the way it's supposed to be. ✌🎵😜
Toys in the attic deserves a spin
@@richardfoster3924 DEFINITELY!!!! I played it over and over.
Hi Andy. I took my first LSD trip in '77 when I was 16, went home to my apartment (with white and red striped wallpaper), put Dark Side on my old turntable for first time ever, and listened to it for 6 hours, over and over. Affected me permanently as an experience and I found few bands and albums afterwards that could compete for depth of feeling and meaning
Andy, when I was young my neighbor brought the Boston album over. In those days we had a console stereo. We played that thing so much and passed it around to the point where we lost the cover! It had so many scratches on it by the time it was over. To this day (41 years later) I still love it and it brings back those memories. Excellent pick son!
Jimi Hendrix Experience: Electric Ladyland is a *must* full album reaction.
Another, a Post Rock masterpiece is Talk Talk’s (final) 1991 album, Laughing Stock. Legendary album.
Supertramp - Crime of the Century
It’s a comfortable feeling knowing that another generation is listening and liking the Rock music of the 70’s. A genre of music never to be repeated. Rock on!
My first album I bought was Iron Butterfly, Ana Gada Davida. It had just come out and my cousin played it for me, I new I had too have it. By the way, I’m 64 years old so I’ve been lucky enough to have lived all this music. And saw many of the acts in concert. I was lucky to go to a lot of concerts. My favorite album and group is Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon! Love the Beatles, Yes, E L P, CCR, Moody Blues, Led Zeppelin, Lynard Skynard, Steely Dan, Supertramp et. al. Classic rock is the greatest music and you two are doing a great job working thru the spectacular sonic wonder.
Andy / Alex.... First off, I want to say that of all the "reaction videos" that are on here you guys do it the best IMHO. You are such a pleasure to watch because you understand and "get it" when it comes to "boomer" music. Your insights, opinions and analysis of the music is top notch. I also would like to commend you for reviewing the truly best music of the late 60's and 70's while staying away from just the "hits" and the more "commercial" music. A perfect example of this is Andy doing that whole series of old Pink Floyd material which I've been watching the last couple of days. Excellent choices! I've been a fan of the band since the very first time I heard "Ummmagumma". Hopefully more people your age will continue to listen to and enjoy all this truly great music from the past. I would also like to extend a big thank you for finally checking out some Neil Young... one of the greatest artists ever. Hopefully you will be doing some more stuff from him. That being said I would like to throw in a request while I'm at it. The next time you guys are in the mood for a good old fashioned banger I would highly recommend giving the song " I Don't Need No Doctor" by Humble Pie from the "Rockin the Fillmore album some serious consideration....Thanks guys... Rock On!
Music baby!!! That's all that matters, that you enjoy and it takes you on your journey.
By the way, I'm 67 and that is my favorite album and concert of the 70's.
Well said big John 👏
Love seeing your list. Thanks for posting.
It’s funny, my memories of “wearing out albums” comes mainly from my college years. For me..Beatles Rubber Soul and Abby Road, Simon and Garfunkel Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme, CSN first album and Deja Vu, The Byrds Turn Turn Turn, Joni Mitchell..Song of a Seagull, Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet, and then after college in the seventies.....Elton John Yellow Brick Road, Fleetwood Mac Rumors, Pink Floyd Meddle (for stoner parties😏) and then in the eighties Roxy Music Avalon. The ones I wore out were mostly on the mellow side because I could just hang with them. Bands like Zeppelin I loved, but they weren’t, to me, just hangin’ out music.
Who's next - The Who
Raging Mong An all time great album.
First album, Jethro Tull "Aqualung." Suggested albums that I wore out. Rod Stewart "Every Picture Tells a Story." ESPECIALLY side two, if I remember correctly. The one with "Maggie May." The Who "Who's Next." For a good period of time I thought it was the best album ever. Oh, I forgot, The Beatles "Abbey Road." Grew up on them. First album came out when I was around 4.
Aqualung was my first album too. I was 14. 59 now. Still listening to it. Amazing album
All great choices.
Albums I wore out.... Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti, Fleetwood Mac Rumours, The Who, Who's Next, The Rolling Stones Let it Bleed, Pink Floyd's Animals.
@@michaelbochnia5686 I don't know why but I never have been a fan of Physical Graffiti or Animals. I like both but do not LOVE them. Believe it of not I like Wish You Were Here better than Animals and the first five Zep albums better than Physical Graffiti.
Definitely Rod Stewart’s Every Picture Tells a Story!!!
Impressive list!! I like all of them, even Dave Matthews! Great job
Bought Grand Funk, the Red Album when I was 13. Couldn't play it when my Dad was home. LA Woman by the Doors, Montrose debut album, Ummagumma and Dark Side from Floyd, Living In The Past by Tull.
My first album "back in the day" was "Badfinger" - I still love that album today. They had a very "Beatles" vibe. Tragic band though. I was 11 or 12 at the time so I also loved The Partridge Family...lol. But I had older siblings who listened to The Ventures, The Beatles, The Beach Boys - which is why I love the "Pet Sounds" album - it was FAR FAR ahead of its time. Brian Wilson is a genius. The Beach Boys sound is definitely a California sound...but they are one of the best bands in the world. Other albums for my 11 year old collection...The Monkees Headquarters....and the first Grand Funk album...
That's quite a range for an 11 year old.
Yeah, Badfinger 'woulda coulda', very sad...
@@patrickq7489 It was because of my brother and sisters - they were all much older. I still remember my brother locking me in a closet and making me listen to The Ventures in Outer Space. I was petrified..but kinda intrigued...
"Bat out of Hell"
oh yeah...1980-81!1 EVERYONE had that album...and its great!!
Another great review... Thanks, man.
Great list of albums! I love that you were into Depeche Mode in High School. I was into Depeche Mode when I was in high school and I'm 53. I spied that album on your wall a while back and thought I was seeing things. LOL It's truly a great album, every song is special and I know every lyric. Saw the tour in 86' as well.
Dark Side of the Moon was produced by Alan Parsons, one of the geniuses behind The Alan Parsons Project. You need to listen to their album, “I, Robot”! Really prog and trippy. Lots of sauce happening on that album.
I love the "I Robot" album, but I'd argue that "Turn of a Friendly Card" tops it.
Black Sabbath Paranoid is my No.1 and I was glad to see it was your No.# 2 - I'm 68 and tremendously happy to see the younger 2020 generation be a Sabbath head.
Albums I never tired of, never skipped a song: “Days of Future Passed” Moody Blues and “4 Way Street” Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
Your numbers 1 & 2 came out when I was in high school and were hugely popular with us in California. Great choices, Andy! I really enjoy your personal choice shows.
Steely Dan The Royal Scam
Beatles Abbey Road
The Who Who’s Next
Poco Crazy Eyes
Four great choices
Four killer choices
If you can get your hands on an unplayed Music From Big Pink by The Band it's worth a lot of money.
Agreed. The Band was the group that virtually all of the other great rock bands from that era admired.
I'm living for the day when they finally react to The Band or The Grateful Dead tbh.
Umplayed lol.
When I was 12, when the first Boston album debuted, the older kids were listening to it. I was out with my friends, walking a small town like we would as kids then, and I came home and my parents had bought this record for me. I wore it out and it’s still the best debut ever, they never topped it. From 1976 to 1978, was a great period of music - Bob Seger’s Night Moves, Steve Miller’s Book Of Dreams, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, The Eagles’ Hotel California, Boston’s debut, Blue Oyster Cults’ Agents Of Fortune and on and on - great period of music.
Glad to see DSOTM and Paranoid at the top. Staple classics for me as a youth. Lots of bong memories with the Floydsters along with the black lights and posters...😎 SO many albums back in the day...my older sister brought home a lot of the initial classics...Hendrix, Kinks, Stones, Vanilla Fudge, Zep 1, etc. First LP I ever bought? The Who - Live at Leeds (1970)...$3.71 at K-Mart, of all places. Also bought Paranoid as well...same price. Those were the days, the beautiful, analogue LP sound on my Technics player!! ✌
Well...at least I have three of them....Boston, Hendrix and Floyd. That Hendrix album was in everyone’s collection back in the sixties if you were a rocker or hippie.......like moi. 😜. If Dark Side had not been your number one I would have fainted.
1. Rush (Moving Pictures)
2. Fleetwood Mac (Rumors)
3. Deep Purple (Machine Head)
4. Metallica (Black Album)
5. Led Zeppelin (IV)
6. Beatles (SGT. PEPPER)
7. Beach Boys (Pet Sounds)
8. Eagles (Hotel California)
This is no specific order.
Love Depeche Mode but my favorite one is Violator!
At least you had 5 of mine on your list!
The cult (electric) kiss (alive) Van Halen 1 ledzepp(zoso)
Love your channel, and a very happy birthday to you 😻
Andy, I love what you and Alex are doing on your channel. I'm a 67 year old life long music lover and musician who grew up on the music you're discovering and are highlighting on your channel. That's a great selection for your favorite top albums!
...
DSOTM is my #5 favorite album of all time. I love music from many eras. I'm also a big fan of Tame Impala.
...
You've covered bands (at least to a certain extent) from my Top 20 favorite albums and artists like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, ELP. Traffic. Also from my Top 20 you may want to explore Genesis and The Moody Blues. I've seen others suggest Genesis here. For The Moody Blues, people might suggest their most famous and classic song "Nights In White Satin". Since you both generally are looking for bangers I would suggest "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)", "Question", or "Gypsy".
...
Another artist you may want to research is Steven Wilson. He has been a major presence on the prog rock scene since the early '90s. His band Porcupine Tree started out to be very influenced by Pink Floyd (especially David Gilmour). It was mainly a solo project early on. Fairly quickly he turned his project it into a full band. They recorded my favorite album from them entitled "Stupid Dream" in 1999. It is more of an art rock oriented album of shorter songs with beautiful vocal harmonies ala Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and The Beach Boys. His production style and techniques are impeccable. Their early 2000s output gets heavier and is in the vein of what Tool and Dream Theater were doing during that time. I also like Steven Wilson's work with Israeli artist Aviv Geffen in their collaborative band Blackfield and his solo work that he's done over the past 10 years or so.
I have a list of the best albums you never heard or have forgotten. In no particular order. Jackson Browne's Late for the Sky, XTC Skylarking, Roy Gallagher Calling Card, The Meters Rejuvenations, Guadalcanal Diary 2x4, Paul McCartney Red Rose Speedway, Alan Parsons Tales of Mystery and Imagination, I could go on.
Calling Card is such a good album and the sound on it outstanding. Rory Gallagher is so underated and should be checked out.
@@recyclerhopkins absolutely. Even people that claim to know music do not know what an amazing musician he was if they know him at all.
omg...how could I have omitted Skylarking on my list? It's close to perfect.
I know Guadalcanal Diary.
Very interesting picks -- demonstrate that you are open-minded with your musical appreciation. I will put in a strong recommendation for "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" by Elton John for a reaction video. Besides the great quality of the music, the unique thing about that album from any other I have ever heard is the sheer amount of musical diversity. The Beatles were good at this too as you saw in your Revolver reaction, but update the recording techniques about a decade and add-in even more musical genre-hopping -- everything from reggae to country, R&B, to progressive, to ballads. Truly a stunning achievement.
Elton's Madman Across the Water is amazing. Includes Tiny Dancer.
Robin Trower - Bridge of Sighs
Its some good ol' fashion hard driving shit.
My first album: when I was 9 yrs old my uncle bought me the Beatles white album for my birthday. This forever solidified him as the world's greatest uncle.
Skynyrd “one more from the road “
Aerosmith First album
The Cars- first album
You've got to add Deep Purple Made in Japan to your collection. It could very well be the greatest live album ever. Btw, I've been listening to Paranoid for 48 years and Dark Side from the day it was released.
It’s cool to see such a diverse representation of eras and genres on your list. I love the way that each one represents a connection to a different person in your life, whether it be your dad, your girlfriend, Alex, or others. Three from your list that were played in very heavy rotation on my turntable (and later my tape deck 😆) back in the day were “Boston,” “Are You Experienced?,” and “DSOTM.” My first ever vinyl LP (my own and not my older brother’s) was KISS “Destroyer.”🔥🔥🔥🔥 l still have the pic of me holding it on Christmas morning 1976! 😆 wore it completely out. My first 45 record was “Killer Queen” by Queen. The albums I probably played the most heavily growing up were “KISS ALIVE II,” “Tommy” by The Who, The Eagles’ “Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975),” Cheap Trick “In Color,” “Fair Warning” by Van Halen, “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, “Led Zeppelin II,” and “The Wall” by Pink Floyd. One album you really need to dive into is “Pet Sounds” by The Beach Boys.
Great choices! Love the Floyd, Boston Sublime and Depeche Mode pics!
No hate here man....music is what keeps life moving no matter what kind, my favorite album was actually a Depeche Mode 'violator 'its just so unique, and also Peter Framptom Live. I had to buy that album 3 times , keep rockin 🎧🙏🎶❤
I wore out my Violator CD when I got it and I'm a child of the 60s and 70s
You and about 20,000,000 other Gals went thru the Frampton albums I am sure.
@@michaelbochnia5686 Yes, why did our lady friends melt like butter for this guy? Was it the hair? Please explain.
Nice list, glad to see a couple more recent maybe I’ll check *them out 😆- must have (classic rock) albums for me (no order) :
The Band - Music From Big Pink
CSN&Y - Déjà Vu
Jeff Beck - “The Orange 🍊 Album”, Beck-Ola , Truth
Cream - Disraeli Gears
The Beatles - Sargent Peppers, Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, White Album
The Stones - Sticky Fingers, Satanic Majesties Request
Led Zepplin - well all of them really
Oh yeah there’s more, but that’s the point isn’t it ? Happy discovering! ✌🏻✌🏻
Oops had to add “Rumours” !
I LOVE that Tame Impala album-definitely reminds me of the Beatles. As a teen, one of my fave albums was Foreigner's 4 album.
Great collection!!
First Vinyl - Who's Next (The Who)...you should have Tommy (The Who), The Cars (Debut Album), The Cars (Candy-O), The Moody Blues Days of Future Passed, The Kinks Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround.
GREAT list.
I would argue for "Qudarophenia"
Who s next yes others nooo
The Dark Side of the Moon.......reputedly the greatest album of all time, but not even the best Pink Floyd album. Totally agree.
My favorite
Animals !!
There are no wrong answers with Pink Floyd. If someone says More or Obscured by Clouds is their favorite Floyd album, my hat's off to them. "Well done, sir. You do you."
I rank it behind Wish You Were Here , although I love them both.
@Jason Burnet
Yeah my favorite really does change depending on various factors, many of them have a time & place where they can be the favorite!
I totally agree, pick any of them and you have valid reason to.
Animals
Wish you were here
The wall
Dark side of the moon
Meddle
Are my top five. They all move around in favorite except, Animals, for some reason that just can't be beat!
All of these are excellent picks Andy. And yeah, Dave Matthews Band put out some fantastic stuff and they have always been a great band.
Did you know that "Dark Side of the Moon" as on Billboards top 100 Albums Chart for 736 Weeks straight? From 1973 through 1988. The longest streak EVER!
I think I speak for most listeners on this channel when I say we love both of you and what you are doing here. To telegraph hate in the course of discussing music misses the point of music and what these guys are trying to do with the channel. Here are my 8 faves from my early twenties; I wore out the vinyl:
1.) GET YER YA YAS OUT - Rolling Stones- They really need to hear the version of SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL on this. My fellow guitar players know the significance of MICK TAYLOR on this
2.) NIGHT MOVES - Bob Seger - What can I say. This album speaks for itself.
3.) ENERGIZED - Foghat - Forget about SLOW RIDE. It is not their best work. This album is. It also subs well for that first BOSTON album.
4.) MADE IN JAPAN - Deep Purple - This double live album is a classic of classics. SMOKE ON THE WATER was my high school graduation song. Its a classic known for its recording quality at the time.
5.) HEART LIKE A WHEEL - Linda Ronstadt. I know some millennials who don't even know who she is. How is this possible? Have they heard of her?
How could they not know the song YOUR NO GOOD? I am really looking for some answers here. Please, please, please check out LINDA.
6.) ON THE BORDER - Eagles - This was when the Eagles played rock and roll. After this they changed personnel a bit and I do not like HOTEL CALIFORNIA. I like rock and roll.
7.) OUTLAWS - Outlaws - I like where this band took off
where the Eagles left off with their dual guitar infused hybridized blend or rock blues and country, but mostly just s***-kicking music as my wife describes it. (She's 75 years old.)
8.) GREEN RIVER - CCR - All of my CCR albums are just trashed at this point. It sounds like John Forgerty making popcorn. CCR was my first love. I used to have all their 45s.
I don't think I can say this enough.. Check out LINDA RONSTADT.
Linda was one of the best vocal artists ever! Good choice!
@@RCP3Kids Yes, it freaked me out when I found some millennial aged co-workers, who are into music, didn't even know who she was. I have to launch a comment campaign to get them to listen to her at the height of her career in the Seventies. Robert, this woman RULED the airwaves. I know you remember.
@Dan Dodds OH, then help us to get them to listen to this. We have to "rally" everyone around this artist, as I am told.
@@RCP3Kids Thanks, I have a story about her when I sat right next to the stage at The Palomino club. She was right next to me. Like less than six feet away. I was 19 at the time and survived.
You need to get some Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who, Aerosmith ( specifically from the 1970's) , Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica, Megadeth, KISS( specifically from the 70's) , Grand Funk Railroad, UFO, Scorpions,Michael Schenker Group, Joe Satriani ( since you're a guitar player)etc, etc,etc.. to many bands to name.
A word of caution- DO NOT GET STUCK in classic rock hell. Very boaring.
My first vinyl records were KISS Alive II and Jimi Hendrix Smash Hits. I was 8 or 9, it was the 70's and my two older brothers corrupted me.
The band that really opened the door for my love of music when I was a kid was so many I can't really pinpoint just one.
When I was in high school in the 80's two albums and even cassettes I wore out were Peace Sells by Megadeth, Metallica Ride the Lighting and Slayer Reign in Blood. Had to buy a second copy of Megadeth Rust in Peace as well. Wore that out.
Like your tastes, although I would remove Satriani and replace with Trower. Yes more Aerosmith and more UFO.
classic rock never ends, from about 64 thru 1980 the amount of great bands and individual talent is endlesssssss....so i cant agree with boaring....a guy i found very late...gary moore..hes fabulous and he played with many old blues and rock guitarists..youll enjoy and get hooked im sure!
@@robertlavorna2968 Yes, Gary Moore played with Thin Lizzy and then had a career as a screaming rock blues player and he was GOOD. Sorry he is no longer with us.
Okay Pete, I have two questions for you. 1.) What do you mean by "Classic Rock Hell?" Do you mean the same 12 crappy Classic Rock songs that you did not like the first time being played in an endless loop as if each artist only did the one song they played 345,945,989 times a day? Is that what you mean by hell Pete, is it? Did it become so hellacious for you that, while at work, your brain got so programmed by the loop they were using that after that song by Loverboy, that song by Steely Dan just started playing in your head just before they ACTUALLY PLAYED THE SONG. You were so brain trained by the classic rock station that your brain sub-consciously knew what the next song was. Is that the kind of Classic Rock Hell you are talking about Pete? 2.) Did you say UFO? Michael Schenker? WHAAAAAT? Michael Schenker is one of the most talented guitarist of this genre. The man can shred like no other. NO OTHER. Regrettably, as you know, they were not really that popular at the time. It is a shame. MSG rocks so hard and shreds so well I cannot think of anyone else at this level. No, not the SCORPS. Its not the same.
Amen Brother! The Kinks - Give the People What They Want; Eric Clapton - 461 Ocean Boulevard (or perhaps Backless)
Loving your music choices from Granada, Spain. ✌️❤️🇪🇸
Hozier, yes! Saw him (NYC) last tour. He was so frigging great!
Led Zeppelin. Queen. Aerosmith. Rush. Yes. Elton John. Steve Miller. The Eagles. Eric Clapton just to name a few should all be added in to your collection
In the summer of 1967, there were three hot albums out, and I got them all: Sgt. Pepper, The Doors, and Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane. I was 14 and, as I remember, that was the start of my collection. I was satisfied with the radio before then. Well, I did get Witch Doctor by David Seville when I was 5, but that was a 45.
Edit: My favorite album that I own is Steely Dan's Aja.
Surrealistic Pillow♥️ what an amazing time to live
Three of the best all time albums.
Yes you got loustmy taste
Great list, Andy! Hard to argue against Dark Side of the Moon. Boston’s first album is also at the top of my list.
Great choices! Dark Side of the Moon was in the top 200 albums for years. And Jimi Hendrix Experienced album was one of my first albums ever. I'm in my late 50s. Good stuff.
Some of my most listened to albums (aside the obvious ones from Pink Floyd):
The Beatles - Abbey Road
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
The Beatles - Help!
The Beatles - Rubber Soul
The Beatles - Please Please Me (debut album)
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Cosmo's Factory
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
AC/DC - Back in Black
Eagles - Eagles (debut album)
Eagles - On the Border
Eagles - One of These Nights
Eagles - Hell Freezes Over (live album)
Huey Lewis and the News - Sports
Huey Lewis and the News - Fore!
Toto - Toto IV
Toto - The Seventh One
Michael Jackson - Off the Wall
Queen - Sheer Heart Attack
Queen - A Night at the Opera
Queen - The Game
Queen - The Works
Vulfpeck - The Beautiful Game (newer band who plays funk)
Not Queen "News of the World"? That was the first Queen album I owned and remains my favorite today.
@@danithompson1693 I like it, but it's not one I go back listening to often.
The Who albums "Tommy" and "Quadraphenia" each tell a story thru its musical progression, as shown on the movies of the same name. Plus Tommy movie was made into a Broadway musical. Worth getting the albums and seeing the movies. Cheers.
Quadraphenia is a masterpiece!
Great video Andy. Personally my favorite albums in no particular order are: Aja - Steely Dan, Abbey Road - The Beatles, The Wall - Pink Floyd, Born to Run - Springsteen, Rumours - Fleetwood Mac, Boston's debut, Hotel California - The Eagles. I could probably go on and on. My first album was either the Beach Boys Endless Summer or Elton John's Greatest Hits.
As for newer bands, loved Yellowcard's Ocean Avenue. I guess they aren't that new since they lasted 20 years before breaking up.
Love the channel keep up the good work. How about more Allman Brother's? Jessica is a must, long overdue.
Awesome, Andy great choices.
I have Depeche Mode, Black Celebration. Love it, and I think it's great that you grew up listening to the Dave Matthews Band. I only know a little about them, but who cares if some people don't like it. Some people HATE King Crimson and laugh at me for loving them. So what? Music is the perfect expression of LIFE. One persons treasure is another persons trash, and that's what makes life so interesting. Imagine if we all agreed on everything and never disagreed on anything. Just imagine how unbelievably BORING life would be.
So here's my 8 albums: Just gonna list 1 from each band, otherwise YES and King Crimson would be on here 2-3 times each, lol :-P
1. YES: Close to the Edge, because CttE is my favorite piece of music, and the other 2 pieces on the album are also phenomenal. Can't wait for you to react to them.
2. King Crimson: In the Court of the Crimson King. Pete Townsend called it "an uncanny masterpiece". I know you've heard 21st Century Schizoid Man and Starless, from their album 'Red', on Patreon. Both are in my top 5 all time favorite pieces of Prog Rock music, but the one you haven't heard is my favorite of these 3, and that's Epitaph. At one point I had it at #1, over CttE, but now it's #2 (what can I tell you. my moods change, lol). Starless is #3 and Schizoid is #4. Magnum Opus by Kansas is #5, which is why I'm now requesting it, since you've listened to my other 2 requests, CttE and GFR Inside Looking Out : ) If you don't rate Magnum Opus S-tier I'm gonna come out to your house and have a talk with you boys, rofl :-P
3. U.K.: Self titled. It's considered by most people in Prog to be one of the best Prog Rock albums. Many put it in their top 5. Hopefully I, and others, will eventually persuade you to check it out. Gotta start with their opening 13 minute Suite "In the Dead of Night". The whole album is just pure genius.
4. Pink Floyd: Animals. Once I heard Dogs, I was hooked. That piece just blew my mind.
5. RUSH: 2112. The first time I heard RUSH was in High School. They put on 2112 on the speakers as we were warming up for our freshmen basketball game and I said "what is this music?" and my teammates said, "that's RUSH. You've never heard RUSH?" Coolest thing I'd ever heard, at that time.
6. Dixie Dregs: Dregs of the Earth. My brother turned me on to the Dixie Dregs. One of the channels I watch said my request for the piece "I'm Freaking Out" is on his list, so he's going to react to it. Can't wait. How to describe the Dixie Dregs. I describe them like this: Funky-Country-Bluegrass-Jazz-Rock-Blues. That pretty much sums it up :-P
7. Vangelis: Beaubourg. I call this album his experimentation with sounds. It's unlike anything you've ever heard. Vangelis wrote the music for the movie Chariots of Fire and put out a couple albums with Jon Anderson of YES, which are great. I have maybe 5-6 albums by Vangelis. Heaven and Hell and China are amazing, but then again they're all amazing : )
8. Kansas: Leftoverture. This makes my list because Magnum Opus is on it. Amazing album.
@Lightmane
Well said in regard to you feelings about differing opinions with music, and great list man! Cheers! 🙌🏻😁🔥
what??? someone who knows Dixie Dregs and mentions King Crimson and Vangelis in the same post??
If you had also mentioned Jean Luc Ponty I would not been surprised
China is my fav from Vangelis, What If and Unsung Heroes from Dregs and Discipline for Crimson
I have recommended Travel Tunes and Cruise Control from Dixie Dregs for their road trip list
also my favorite Depeche Mode is Songs of Love and Devotion
I hope you also have some Jeff Beck on file
cheers
@@jazzsauce8130 I have Enimatic Ocean and Open Mind and Individual Choice by Ponty
Blow by Blow and Wired by Beck
Albedo, Spiral by Vangelis
Unsung Heroes and Dregs of the Earth and Industry Standard
I stopped buying albums when CD's came out and stopped buying CD's several years after that.
I'd love to buy tons of albums, but I'm not in a situation where I can do that right now.
By Crimson I also have Starless and Bible Black, Lizard, Larks, Red, Discipline, Beat, Three, & Thrak
By YES I have from The Yes Album to Tormato
Oh, and Big Science by Laurie Anderson - now there's a fun album : )
My dad loved Jazz and so do I. He played the Saxs and Clarinet. He had a metal Clarinet. My brother played Guitar and Drums, but ended up playing Bass in a band that 'almost' made it. They met the producer of Styx who said he had listened to 300 different bands and none of them were as good as his, but unfortunately it didn't go anywhere. Go figure.
The band continued to evolve and ended up being a 4 piece group with no guitar player. Back in the 70's their band was 2 white guys and 2 black guys (that was the group the producer of Styx met). I have no clue why I'm telling you all this, lol. The final 4 piece group with no guitar player recorded 3 songs, but by themselves - not professionally, and he put them on CZcams, just for kicks. I've tried to get A&A to listen to it, but I understand that they're just not interested, though the British Guitar guy who reacts to music listened to it and said he really liked it, so that was cool. I'm assuming you know who the British Guitar guy is. He has 143k subs : )
So if you'd like to listen, I'll gladly put a link here to 1 of their songs and you can let me know what you think, or just search Spunk by X-Stream. It's 4:59 long : )
Their other 2 songs on YT are Hi Cycle and Rained Out. Enjoy. Now tell me you're a multi-billionnaire and want to produce their music, hah hah, lol

We both had big music influences
In HS I hung out with kids that formed a band. great friends and I did some sound and lighting for them... not extremely technical ha ha but the bass player Robert Hurst went on to play with both Marsalis' and in the tonight show band and one of the guitar players was 1st guitar in MSU Jazz Band his Freshman year... so exposed to lots oof talent and my other good friends were into Jazz and Fusion... lots of Detroit Jazz Festivals before I moved to Atlanta...
ok, brief life stories shared :D
I enjoyed those tracks, I was hearing a little ELP influence too... always think its wise to have at least one female vocalist...
my taste is all over the place...except very little rap or country but blues, funk, reggae and 80s music, are all part of it... soundtracks too ok TMI timeout

Add "Starcastle", album of the same name, ("Starcastle, Starcastle") and "REO Speedwagon Greatest Hits", "Styx, Grand Illusion", "Heart, Greatest Hits", the first Queen and first Foghat albums and first 4 Led Zep. OMG, too many to list bro.
Reo is something they definitely need to hit at some point. They have done most of the other 70's bands of this type.
Dudes! FYI! after ELO keep rolling with them. We all love it
I enjoy hearing what others like listening to. Good picks. You talk faster than I can hear though, LOL. The album I’ve played more than any other in my 60 years of life is Jackson Browne’s “The Pretender” album. It just speaks to me on a soul level.
