I met Mother Maybelle when I was teenager - I didn't quite understand what was going on at the time, but she had the most powerful presence I ever felt
My mama went to school w/June Carter when they were young girls. A little white building. One room. They were the same age and played together. But she said June was a little mischievous and would get them in trouble sometimes. lol Maybelle and the older sisters would come sometimes to the school and play/sing for the class. Those Virginia mountains held a lot of memories for mama. And I loved all of them.
I’m one of the youngest here, but I’ve always preferred older music. Oddly enough, I’m here from reading Stephen King’s “The Stand”, and the scene he painted using this song was both eerie and heart-warming. I tend to associate songs or images with what I’m reading, and some stick so that I cannot listen to it without revisiting that part of my imagination. The human mind is a brilliant thing.
I read that about 30 years ago, and it was one of the best of the ones I had, along with "The Talisman", and the Gunslinger ones, as I recall, although he's got so many, you could hardly read them all. There was that Simpsons episode where Stephen King gets in a car crash and is ejected through the windshield, I think it was, and writes another book before hitting the ground. But yeah, there've been a few songs I never much liked til hearing them in the context of a certain movie scene, etc., and if there'd been internet at the time, I might've looked up this song when I read The Stand.
@@dan.3450 I’m glad I’m not the only one. I can say the same for some of the movies and shows I watch. There are many songs I would’ve never cared for if a good writer didn’t know how to use it.
Besides the great old songs and singing, Maybelle did so much for guitar picking. Way back in the early 1960s I picked 'folk guitar' in her way and didn't even know where it came from back then. So many 'folkies' played that way. It's a very efficient method of thumb/brush picking that I find takes less effort than producing the same 'boom-chicka' sound with a flat pick. Maybelle also picked quicker bass runs and melody with the thumb and picked up on the 1st string as well. Love her. She opened the door to a lifetime of picking. :)
There was a time when songs actually had meaningful words and were performed in such a way you could hear and understand them. May be that day will come around again.
Any lead guitar player (rock, blues, country) owes their skills to Maybelle Carter. Before her "scratch" technique, guitars were only a rhythm .instrument of pure chord strumming.
When folk respected the creator ♡Love..earth has become filled with good n evil..not knowing the greater =Love of Jesus ❤bless those Lord who gave you, inside their bodys a place for you to reside..Amen😊
I really don't know how someone couldn't love The Carter Family. Listening to them is like listening to ghosts, they're so anointed and their music will always amaze me.
You all prolly dont give a damn but does anybody know a method to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost the password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me
June Carter Cash (born Valerie June Carter; June 23, 1929 - May 15, 2003) was an American singer, songwriter, actress, dancer, comedian, and author who was a member of the Carter Family and the second wife of singer Johnny Cash. Prior to her marriage to Cash, she was professionally known as June Carter and occasionally was still credited as such after her marriage (as well as on songwriting credits antedating it).
Thank you Bill and Kay Wertz who introduced me to this music in the mid '60s via recordings by the Carters. Man, those were good times in the South Side of Chicago.
Late 30's Saturday nites on WSM Nashville, Grand Ole Opry; WLS Chicago National Barn Dance and WWL New Orleans (but I cant remember the name of the show) Im sure I've heard the Carters on all 3 stations. (I know WSM) This tune, Turn Your Radio On, and Life is Like a Mountain Railroad. I have a 5 cd set with over 100 songs One of my favorites is from the 1898 wr with Spain; Faded Coat of Blue.
I blame the cultural revolution. While America was busy building an industry based on traditional music, China was busy destroying everyone and everything associated with the old culture.
It is the origins of C/W in the USA in the 1920's. It is pure music for sure. I am in the US in Ohio. I have heard a lot of their songs thru my youth and m exploring them now via the inter-web!!!!
well the Japanese have good taste in music. Even during the 60s many American bands, country and rock visited Japan. You can find videos here with Japanese applauding the music.
This song was originally written because a man taking care of a guy in a wheelchair would tell him "keep on the sunny side of the street"--when he would push him around town. That is a fact and is where the song came from.

I truly wish I would have met her. I have the greatest level of respect and admiration for her.
I bet she did !!
She seems to me to be so cool and gentle at the same time. She's one of my most beloved guitar heroes. And I play metal...
Kudos to you.
I’m Spartacus
I like Mother Maybelle and all her daughters especially Anita and Helen.
maybelle was the hendrix of her era.
Shredding riffs of gold!
I always say she was the female Jerry Garcia, but Christian

Age is never a factor,it is about enjoying the music and passing it on to our future families.❤

Bob Dylan said she’s one of his biggest influences.
Classical and flamenco guitar where far from only rhythm and had a huge impact on USA guitar styles.

One of my favorite songs ever! Tim Moody - Turner, Maine USA

Mother maybelle Sure could strum a 6 String! still in awe when I see the talent that woman and family had...
She's not just strumming, she's picking!
She is Carter Scratching! The woman pretty much invented lead guitar as a teenager.
this is the good stuff! i don't even like to listen to the country radio stations anymore. whatever they're playing is nothing like this!!!
They are solely missed, they should always thanked for all their great music they left for everyone to enjoy...
Magnificent and seemingly effortless.
Simply a classic song and performance.
Maybelles Gibson sound so good and mellow!
Man.. that lady could play a guitar... what an awesome sound... I love those old Gibsons.
Almost, indescribably fantastic. I'm not exaggerating.

Timeless....................
The standard bearers, that others try to follow to this day! They literally wrote the book for country & southern gospel music as we know it!
Lovely!
Very good music !
I always think that it is interesting that we Japanese likes this kind music, and not Chinese traditional music.
I blame the cultural revolution. While America was busy building an industry based on traditional music, China was busy destroying everyone and everything associated with the old culture.

God bless you. That was from Arkansas USA, we still sing like this.
Maybelle Carter, brother of A.P. Carter was one of three people from ground zero for what would become American country western music.
***** A.P. Carter's brother was Ezra Carter and Maybelle was Ezra's wife. Sara was A.P.'s wife and Maybelle's cousin.
***** Neither could I.
Fantastic
This song was originally written because a man taking care of a guy in a wheelchair would tell him "keep on the sunny side of the street"--when he would push him around town. That is a fact and is where the song came from.
Legend...
KEEP ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF LIFE##Inscription on both burial sites of AP Carter and his former wife!!

A family that sings together...
