Getting all HP is all well, but never forget talents because it's literally the percentage scaling of your shield strength
Um can u help me with something? So like tenacity set gives buff for 3 sec but zhongli e resets it if enemy is hit by his pillar but its range isnt that big so when u place other geo construct they all resonate with the pillar so does that also reset the buff duration if enemy is hit by other object which is resonating with zhongli pillar? Or the main pillar have to hit for it to reset?
@@kazuha9753 Ohh, nice question. Actually the damage from the resonance is also from Zhongli's pillar (elemental skill) therefore considered as his elemental skill damage, resetting the Tenacity 4pc passive. The resonance damage is still from Zhongli so that's why the resonance from other Geo constructs will still count as Zhongli's elemental skill damage.

@@pg3856 Hmm, depends on your preference.
If you like a shield bot Zhongli who can tank anything for you, go for Black Tassel (and it's also very affordable).
If you like having a Gucci weapon with decent stats, then go for Vortex Vanquisher but I don't recommend it at all if you are an f2p or a light spender. If you do wish for it, be sure that you would also like to have the other rate-up weapon (which is the Amos' Bow in the upcoming banner) if you ever get it.
For choosing either the Tenacity or Bolide, I would hands down recommend Tenacity as it gives those good hp bonus and also buffs teammates.
Bolide is a selfish one because the shield strength stat you get from the 2 piece cannot be transferred to teammates. 4piece is only good if you're going for a Physical/Auto Attack Zhongli.
For my recommendations, if you like your Zhongli to deal high damage, gain his ult faster, and still provide nice shields, then I recommend Tenacity set partnered with Favonius Lance if you do have it.
I like how it went from generally being a good shield to just easy mode ON

@@freydy4598 zhonglis shield brings a lot of utility like resistance shred and is a good burst dps. Tho for shields - yes they are still good, but u should still have a healer since shields give you resistance interruption and reduce the amount of damage you generally take
@@freydy4598 corrosion didn't really nerf shields, theyre still really good all around, but i def wouldn't head to inazuma without a healer. there can and should be a healer and shielder on every team, with exceptions ofc
(and for ur edit this is my personal opinion but i think healers were necessary even before new patch since as a shield only zhongli is busted so you should invest in a healer first)
@@freydy4598 still worth. No shield meaning you have to dodge more or else you will be staggered a lot. Shield’s purpose is not to avoid corrosion, but to avoid stagger.
What i learned from this is that the drill attack from the electro boi is stronger than bosses

Personally, I feel 35k to 40k is perfect, because you still have room to build a little attack, and typically at that HP by the time your shield breaks, you can just refresh.

Yup, my Zhongli has 34k hp and his Meteor does 95k Crit (solo,no buffs) above 50% hp and 146k, when he has less than 50% hp (also no buffs and solo)

How does defense help with Zhongli's shield? I don't have him and am planning to get him when he has the rerun so I don't know much about his kit since I don't watch vids of him.
@@chomosuke0720 zhongli's shield scales with HP, def doesn't affect his shield. Noelle's shield scales with defence, that's why Noelle was in the showcase for high def.
@@chomosuke0720 if the active charecter has high defense it will help with any shield as def=less dmg.. so the shield will take less dmg simply cus active char is taking less dmg

If you're only focusing on his shield, then shield strength and def would be great but high hp would also give boosts to his normal atks, E and Q from the passive so you can get decent dmg from him as well. I want hp% from the tenacity set but I keep getting crit stats and not hp%. Mihoyo knows very well about what we want XD

My lvl.80 Zhongli has 30k hp with Homa. It's bit fragile but the 85k meatball hits are more satisfying.
What is your build? I have him at around 33k hp too and I can only hit 69k with his ult
@@lenadim123 I've using Pyro resonance so it's a bit higher. Generally it's around 72k-75k. He has 2060 atk, 50/210 Crit.

Same. My zhongli with 28k hp and pjws hits 81k crit and it's more satisfying than a meaty shield. I can dodge attacks anyway so by the time my shield breaks i can recast it again

@@lonelyz8758 No, it's because the DEF stat decrease the damage intake, which make the shield able to sustain more atk with high DEF
That's why it seems Noelle shield is weak af, but using the shield on Noelle herself for main dps, it seems like her shield is kinda indestructible.

I think if u have a great dps in the team, you can focus building zhongli in Hp rather than atk/geo dmg. His passive scales with hp, so it's okay if u pick hp main stats on artifacts.
That's what I'm saying, like if the have xiao on the team each plunge deal 100k then why I need zhongli damage, it's best to focus on shield
@@mozo9733 yep I have xiao and I cant just switch out if his burst to pop a zhonglu ult every 10 seconds, and xiao takes so much damage that a 40k hp won't do for floor 12, currently have 53k ho and still sometimes the shield breaks

Wait I’m confused. I thought 2 pc Bolide would - yes, only increase _Zhongli’s_ shield strength - and THEREFORE increase the protection of whatever party member is on field with the shield.

@@applepie8138 2pc Bolide only activates when the user is on-field, and shield strength bonuses can't be snapshotted to a shield, so in this case only Zhongli himself can benefit from the bonus if he is the only 2pc Bolide user, if swapped out to other teammate, the shield strength bonus is gone. This is why usually Bolide users is not the shielder of the team, but the on-field dps who relies on normal and/or charged attacks (like Yanfei, Hu Tao, Keqing, Ningguang, Noelle, Itto), and they would use the 4pc set instead only 2pc (2pc is rarely recommended for any character). The 4pc Bolide can work for Zhongli too, but in the case where Zhongli is the physical on-field dps.
I’ve been saving for him and Ganyu since I got Venti in March. I failed to get him on his rerun. I now have 250 pulls saved, 40 pity and 50 pulls in emergency currencys. *They will come home*

Zhongli’s effective hp shield is also dependent on the character’s defence/resistance because these reduce the damage absorbed by shield hence increasing its capacity.
Remember the shield also takes less damage if your character has higher defense since that does effect how much damage you take. So for someone like itto or Noel for example, your shield technically will feel stronger due to their overall defense stat :)

I was reluctant to go all in on itto cause there were rumours of zhongli coming. Then the rumours were stoped at the 2.4 video and i went all in, now that the banners are confirmed and zhongli are here im just hopeless, if i get him on aprox 60 wishes (those are the F2P expected on the next events) fine but i don't think ill be lucky enough. I do not repent tho. I really like Itto.

I was gonna get albedo actually but I promised myself months ago that as soon as I heard of even rumors of his return, that I wouldn't spend any primos and would save everything I had because I knew I would need the time. (Around the albedo banner was when I saw the Zhongli predictions) I also wanted itto but I had to save. Especially since I have a guarantee ready.

Its as if shield is just your additional HP, and to make your additional HP last longer, you have to have high defense so your so called additional HP wont deplet fast.

Not only defence stats that gives u extra shield strength but also the geo resonance makes the difference & any elemental resonance to activate u need all 4 characters in the team

@@Maria-.-Kim I see, Didn't realize it required a full party. So all the ninguang showcases were without the Geo Res.
I think that was the point of the video. Geo resonance is not part of Zhongli's kit, but I do admit it's tempting since you've already filled one party slot with Geo and Zhongli's shield is your best bet of always having its effect active.

The more HP you have the better your Zhongli is in both shielding and DMG :
•His shield scales with hp
•Planet Befall's DMG is also increased by 33% of Max Hp (passive)
•Dominus Lapidis hold DMG is increased by 1.9% of max hp (passive)
Wait so for his planet befall's his dmg is increased by his max hp by 33% yeah? So are you essentially saying that a 30k hp zhongli can have 9.9k extra dmg?

@@Zyxie_Chronos It's not as good as you think. Building him with atk/geo will give far more dmg than hp/hp. Hp % is just a nice bonus to have. Atk/geo/crit will prob hit at least 40k+ higher dmg than hp/hp/hp and that assumes the hp build can crit reliably which isn't likely.
@@AngryLink my zhongli has 40k hp with 4ptenacity set hp/GeoDmg/cr and black tassel, stats are like 60cr and 130cd and does like 50-60k brust damage. you can have high hp without hp/hp/hp build
Thanks for the comparison. Back in old days on reddit, people recommended 30k hp is enough for everything, even myself do the same. So im surprised to see the new trend zhongli 38k-50k (back in older days, 40-50k is rare). I guess it really depends. 30k is enough for me to use until his E cooldown for a new shield (with 10k aoe dmg and a pillar for support dmg), been using it like that since zhongli first banner. I tried using my friend's zhongli, much hp weak dmg, and I don't think that suitable for me lol maybe b.c I dont enjoy playing hutao.

Seems 40K is the sweet spot. I'm hoping to use crit rate circlet and favonius lance for a bit higher damage and more utility (energy generation). Man, artifact farming is a pain.

I use 34K HP Zhongli and to be honest I barely ever take Damage. This is with the Archons team btw with Zhongli Venti Ei and Ganyu so he’s not getting Geo resonance here either. I find it quite enough because in most scenarios you are not gonna passively stand and do nothing. Not to mention standing on Zhongli’s pillar is great against AOE boss attacks like Azdaha’s stomping or Ei’s 3 Electro spears or Signora’s Ice spear. You can stand atop Zhongli’s pillar and attack the enemy too if your DPS are archers or catalysts. Like mine is Ganyu. Or pop the pillar close to the enemy & Polearm/Claymore DPS can hit from there too and if the enemy is bigger sword uses can do it too.
My Recommendations:
38-40k HP w/o 4pc tenacity
30-32k HP w/ 4pc tenacity
From recent testing 4pc tenacity set is making my sheilds look like a 40k sheild with only having 31k HP, making my Ningguang tank atleast 3 hits from the Cryo Regisvine before breaking and doing a tiny bit of damage (note my ningguang is lvl 80 with a no set bonuses and alot of damage stats). from what i can hypothesize the tenacity set can give around 8k hp worth of sheilding to your units. tanking that much damage is enough to survive any big attacks and won't compromise my damage. also enough not to break and refresh ur sheild back up again.

My zhongli has 30k hp with 51/154 crit ratio. His shield is usually strong enough for floor 12 (it only breaks when I try to get max score on events like the current one) and you get 55 to 100k burst dmg as a bonus
if I want to have a hybrid build (shield + burst support) is 2 piece tenacity and 2 pc noblesse the best for zhongli?
Yup if you want more damage for your burst go for ATK sands or if you want a nice healthy shield you can go for HP sands just choose whatever you want
Go 4 piece tenacity, with HP% sands because the 4 sets give extra 30% of shield.
Then for damage go for Geo goblet and crit circlet. Not Noblesse.
I use that because petra doesn’t give good shit. At least can hit 70k with Deathmatch though and still tanks decently.

noblesse increases 20% of your ult from 20-40k to 24-48k, with 9k shield.
4 pc tenacity set gives you extra 30% shield from 9k to 11.7k
Increases team atk by 20%, which translated into 10% of ZL ult damage from 20-40k, to 22k-44k. Also around 5-10% damage increase for your entire team.
So choosing 2 pc Noblesse over 4 piece Tenacity set, gives you 10% more ZL ult damage,
But 10% less E resonance damage, less 20% attack for your entire team damage, and 30% potential shield loss.

I never realized how little hp zhonglj's shield had. Mine rarely breaks so i assumed it had nearly 100% of his health or something but no at lvl 9 his shield takes 21% of his hp. Adding the initial hp is has that's only 10-11k if he has 40k hp.
The thing is the shield dmg absorption bonus for Geo
I know how powerful Zhongli's shield is even though I don't have him.
And I'm always amazed ...

if you want pure shielder, go for 45k plus, but if you want shielder plus burst support, do around 35/40k, and if you want to mainly focus on burst support but also a decent shield, 25-30k

Use tenacity of the millelith, it's a 30% buff to your shield and a free noblesse buff. It's his overall Bis as sub DPS since you can still focus on damage with your stats except a hp sands and still have a tanky shield
for those who want a hybrid build u can still get 45k hp with 66-150 crits (bp polearm) u get quite decent dmg and really good shield (im running mine like that with 4 tenacity and R1 bp polearm) i get 53k burst dmg just zhongli no resonance no buffs and 70k with geo resonance wich is amazing for a shield non homa build

My Zhongli who has 34k HP, full tenacity set with lvl 90 Fav Lance who hits 75k with his ult at level 9 talent but almost never had an issue with his shield (which is only level 8)
What's your crit rate and DMG?
@@joelroy575 48% crit rate with around 135% crit damage using a crit rate helm. Got pretty lucky with some of the crit damage sub-stats because I was also farming for Eula's Pale Flame (which I am not yet finished building yet ;;)

This is legit right ? I'm farming for him and I can't decide which set of artifact to farm. I don't need him to do 100k burst, If 4pc Tenacity (hp/geo/crit main stats) can do more than 50k burst and have strong shield then I'm going with it.
30K Hp with 2pcs Noblesse and 2pcs Archaic Petra for those bursts and for the stats Hp/geo dmg bonus/and crit dmg is what I'm going for since i have deathmatch

@@walterwhite4969 I want to pull for xiao too. But I only have 35 fates now, not guaranteed and 54 pity. I just prioritize to get zhongli because he provides more than Xiao. I have ayaka hutao raiden and ningguang decently built currently and so I am not in need of dps as of the moment. It just feels so fun playing Xiao that's why I want to get him.

I think your shield won’t be very strong because it seems you will only have about 26-29k hp even if you try to get hp substats. my zhongli build is a little weird but it works. triple hp% 4pc emblem set, the catch r5 and 40/150 crit ratio (get lucky with substats, dont need much ER subs bc you already get a free 75% ER from the set bonus and weapon). lots of burst dmg bonus for cheap, strong shield, burst uptime is good too
Good to know DEF damage reduction scaling is calculated first before shield damage absorption
E.g
Damage dealt 20k, shield strength 10k
1. 1000 DEF reduce dmg by 25% - > you received 15k dmg - > shield absorb 10k - > in the end you received 5K dmg total.
2. 2000k DEF reduce dmg by 50% - > you received 10k dmg - > shield absorb 10k dmg - > in the end you received 0 DMG
I've pre farmed everything for shield bot Zhongli, can't wait for his banner

I have 49k health and I say my zholing damage is not bad
Edit his hold damage is around 3000
(he have 46 or 48 Crit rate)
And his pillar deal around 2000
Normal attack around 1000
And Burst around 20000
His burst animation takes 3 seconds. At just 20k dmg, it's a huge dps loss on most teams, especially if you're running him with Itto.
Kind of a dps loss for just 20k, definitely better as shield bot
I feel like using the 4 star shield strength food would increase the shield more than the 25% hp food, but I'm not entirely sure. Thoughts on using +25% hp food vs 35% shield strength food?
Just wondering since you can only consume 1 food of each type, and they're both defensive foods.

So in his 2nd rerun (the 3rd banner for my experience) i need another reliable shield beside my Diona, the shield which is strong and fast deploy. Even sacrife my 2nd attempt for Ganyu 😭. So far, I have build another shield like Noelle, Xinyan and now Thoma. None of them come handy like Diona's shield and their shield have long cooldown and/or tricky set up.
For me, this is shielder tierlist :
1. Zhongli (can achieve over 30k HP shield)
2. Diona (2nd fast shield CD, sacrificial bow faster shield uptime)
3. Thoma (stacking shield strength for other character, but can break easily during team rotation before fully stacking up the shield)
4. Xinyan (tricky level 3 shield, even for her C2)
5. Noelle (2nd or even 1st if she be the main DPS, looooooooooong CD)
6. Kaeya/Yanfei (dude, need constelation and both of them better become DPS and/or sub-DPS)
40k seems to be the sweet spot for me when using ToM.
With 43k HP, Lvl 8 Talent, and no Geo resonance, His shield can survive a full rotation of my Hu Tao / Diluc Vap and Ganyu melt even Face tanking a lot of overloads in Floor 12 Abyss.
Isn't enough face tank the 3 Kenki chamber tho.
Note to self: All HP Zhongli + All Def Noelle = actual immortality

Usually 40-45k is more then enough if u can dodge decently well, and shield plays a role of safety precaution
Yeah If you can, xiao for example can't dodge in plunges, so it is also character dependent, if you can consistently dodge I think40k is the sweet spot but if not honestly max out on hp

if you have defense you reduce the damage income, the shield protects that damage. So if you receive less damage you need less shield too. + 2K defense reduces a LOT of damage. Azdaha almost do not damage my albedo with the attacks, only the burn does something. So around ~45K HP should be enough.
@@fejipe 45k is too much especially when ur using itto who makes the shield stronger go for 35-40k

if u have Xingqiu or beidou in Zhongli team, the shield is more strength, remember there's a lot of damage mitigation skills that synergize with geo shields

I think zhongli’s shield has really good elemental resistance for all elements except for geo. I could be wrong though

2. he actually has extra geo resistance, same for Diona, xinyan, noelle and I think thoma for their respective elements
@@throwawyorter5886 he has the same resistance for all elements including physical cus that's how geo shields work.. elemental shields like diona, xinyan or Thoma have highest resistance to their own element and lower resistance to others

my zhongli will soon touch 60k
I'll be building him as a burst DPS with hp sands for future proofing, I think he'll be around 30k. Zhongli has so much scaling in his burst (900%) that I think it'll be a waste if you'll not give it any attention.
As a new Zhongli haver I’m starting to building him, so I would like to know if im doing okay. My plan is 4 pc Tenacity with HP sand and circlet and geo damage goblet, or HP sand and goblet, and Crit rate/dmg circlet, or just all HP with crit rate/damage substats. Don’t know which to choose between black tassel or Favonius lance. Any suggestions?
30k hp is super fine, because you won‘t have to tank the attacks so hard as showcased in the video; The shield will hold almost always till refresh, unless you don‘t even try to dodge some attacks. Everything above that is mostly just needed if you literally don‘t want to play the game. My Zhongli can hit around 90k with burst (no homa) and my shield is strong enough to hold in most situations.
I think this build works way better compared to 50-60k hp because then your Zhongli won‘t really give your team anything else except the shield.
How do I balance that out tho?
zhongli dosent give anything else except the shield??? You forgot the most broken thing of zhongli kit...universal elemental shred. NO character can do that.

i use mine as a bruiser and the peak i have him do was 238k thts at peak with set up and everything and normal he ults about 77-98k cause of staff of homa passive

So Basically my previous Lvl90 Noelle with shield 3200 can take Childe whale atk and withstand three more dolphin atks. my current stats on my Noelle with r3 white blind and husk set i can reach 4000 shield and more with Garou. I'm just hoping to keep my shield up against Dvalin stank breath.
Edit. My Noelle can reach upto 4.4 k Def at full stacks and Garou talent 8

It holds very good and i use the nobless oblige as he can use his ult every time...
In the end it protects VERY good like, never had problems like "oh he didn't tank this", it hit good damage and give buff for others

Yep it's been long proven that the set bonus only works on the character who's using the set

I prefer dionyaa for my Shield and my healer, cause i have good Bolide and Maiden stat for my dionyaa, for now my dionyaa still can handle bosses damage

I'm comfortable at 40k hp. even with zhongli shield, I won't just facetank everything and still dodge the huge attacks whenever I can(inc. burst s). the 40k is just a precaution in case my crappy laptop lags on me in the middle of a fight.
A bar for shield integrity will be really useful
Noelle with Zhongli shield is the single most tankiest entity in the game.
its still not enough, add XQ's Skill and Beidou's Burst and now THAT is the single most tanky entity in the game.
Since i know recently that defense actually also reduce dmg taken by shields, it convinces me even more to get Zhongli for her.

This is exactly why I use noelle and Zhongli on my main team with geo lumine as the battery/sub dps. In some cases I will even use qiqi or some1 in my main team bcuz those 2 r not enuf. But I’ve been finding that I’ve been fine on my main team with using another main dps or sub dps.

I have an avg zhongli of 38k hp, 55 to 179 crit ratio and 7:8:9 talent and it does pretty good. By the time it's shield breaks skill cooldown is complete and I have pretty avg burst DMG that is (65±5)k but I make it up by giving him some gud ER. I guess I could say if I'm in a fight for about one and a half minute I can burst 2 times or more depending on the enemies.
best i can achieve with my zhongli in 8 months of playing is 35k hp with 70:140 ratio but i have pepega ER tho so kekW
