Boy I would luv to have that 10HP powerhead just the way it is thats nothing compared to what I do there all repairable. You just have to have the ambition and time to do it and I get it its easy to swap it over for most. If you lived locally I would buy that powerhead from you as its in very good condition to me to bring it back .I have a few 1958 10 lowerends meaning cowlpan and down complete parts motors I would like to build. Maybe at worst a piston change maybe not and a set of rings on this,LOL ! Looks new other than number one piston. Good Video enjoyed the time lapse !

I just bought the same exact Johnson two weeks ago, I cannot get it to run at all. I wish I gad a fraction of your knowledge and patience. Guess I'll keep watching your videos.

Hey Brandon, do you have a video on how to install those needle bearings around the crank and connecting rods?? Thanks!!

It’s true , by replacing the power head your ahead in the money game . But there are engines that you can’t find a decent block like the older OMC’s and Waterwitch’s and Neptune’s and Cailes ! Then you DO need to work with what you have ! That 58 Johnson 10 hp is a very common block to be had ! The parts from that carcass will help others to live ! Lol

Is the any difference in the 1957 10hp and then 1958 power head besides the smaller flywheel?

You made the right call, the cost of parts now days, it is just not worth it.

Looks like the spark wrench made short work of the frozen connecting rod cap bolt.

Good call. That thing was shot. It would ruin the cylinder walls to clean and get the rust off. I would have bought a power head and sold and good parts off the old power head. Like flywheel, carb, etc

Made the right call but if ever you want to move rusted piston, just let it soak in a 50-50 acetone and ATF solution. It works wonders !
