I had never heard (or it has been so long I have forgotten) the concept of vertical cinema. I think that is probably the best short summary I have heard of what is so wonderful and rich about Maya's work, and I can definitely see that in Barbara's work, too.
I love Maya Deren- her writing is very great as well
RIP Barbara Hammer 🤍
Wonderful job Ms. Hammer. Thank you MoMa for this post.
very inspiring, very much and interesting and touching
Awesome.
Very interesting to hear Hammer speak about Deren! But I wish the clips of "Meshes of the Afternoon" weren't horizontally stretched (and when Hammer's speaking about Deren's vertical cinema, no less).
Mashes of the afternoon is the best film I've seen.
Maya is THE visual artist.
Privileged to know her in our SF State days...
RIP Barbara Hammer
Barbara sounds a little like Patti Smith
R.I.P
I like this lady. I wish more chicks could be like this. Give all the hot ones a personality like this and the world would be a better, less materialistic place.
