- Visit artist Joan Jonas in her SoHo loft and enter her world of collected objects. A trailblazer of video and performance art, she began her decades-long career working in New York’s vibrant Downtown art scene of the 1960s and ’70s. Here she reflects on the city’s changing landscape, and takes us through the recurring props (mirrors, masks, and kites) and themes (play, mythology, our relationship to animals) that inspire her radical work.

No rules, no boundaries in art ❤
This is a wonderful short, incisive & informative piece on Joan Jonas. Thank you for posting it , but above all for making it. I will be tracking down her work. And thank you Ms Jonas.
Great artist
Love to learn about her and see what her thought process was behind her work.
I will definitely look for more of her work! Fascinating
Love it great video. Was so cool to see her take on her practice and the meaning behind her work. And loved seeing the many objects in her antique curio collection!!! And the loft amazing such history...

Drugs in this era changed perspective and ways of thinking. Def some interesting things to come out of this time and these artists, but A LOT of their work is just randomly hoping to strike gold and get paid. Take any 5 random items in your house and do something weird with them and you’re qualified. Keep evolving this over 3 decades and you’re a professional artist with a unique vision.
MoMA ignored Jonas for 50 years. Why? Let MoMA explain that one.
🐴💩…..see what I did there? Iconography, semiotic something or other.
