This looks like a 1-piece solution for something that 2 pieces would do much more efficiently and cheaply. Laminating 1/4 inch cleat strips onto 1/4 inch plywood would do the exact same job. I do like the channels on the back if you needed to run wires behind the cleat wall though.

@@AGlimpseInside First of all its not a criticism about this product. But I was taken back by the cost, I was envisioning to fill the entire wal above my 20ft workbench about 36” high it would require about 30 panels or $2970! You know best about your workflow and capabilities of your shop. From my limited perspective it seems waist-full to me to remove that much material in material and machine time. Perhaps a combination of pre cut French cleats with the pre drilled holes that can be glued and screwed agains the wal or plywood. Just a thought.

I’d tend to agree. For me the attraction of this system was that it was something just about anyone could do with the tools they likely already had, and it was stupid simple. Basic, but stupid simple. Now we’re looking at a French Cleat system that appears to use…French cleats to hang it. Not to say it doesn’t work as advertised, but that looks like she requires quite a bit more work to reproduce, or you crack open that wallet and buy it ready made.

Whereas this is $99 for less than 12sf... What am I missing here? Throw stones if you must... I'm currently reconfiguring my 2-car garage (my wood shop) into french cleats wall-to-wall. I just finished my back wall...18' x 8' (but only cleated 12' because of tankless water heater in the back corner) using 3 sheets of 3/4" ply for the panels, and 2 sheets of 3/4" ply for the cleats at a total cost of about $200 (and would even be about $40 cheaper if I went with 1/2"). it would cost me over $800 using these...and thats just for the smaller back wall.

Then, once you run screws into the backer, studs, those cleats are probably up there for life.

One could theoretically make these panels out of their own quarter inch plywood, but I would be afraid they would be wavy once they got screwed to the studs. The main difference is that with typical Fred’s cleats I would really never install them over drywall finding the studs every 16 inches. I would always put a backer board up first and then put the French cleat on that backer board. With this system you don’t need to do that. You have pre-drilled holes every 4 inches to allow you to find studs wherever they are , and also one other main reason is purely aesthetic as well. These panels would group together in a large setting look really great and sometimes walking into a maker space that is just decked out with something that looks awesome really does enhance the creativity.

Clever, it’s not easy to see on camera I guess but once these panels are installed, the aesthetics of them looks really awesome and I do recommend them for people who don’t wanna put a backer board up on drywall. As I would never install cleats directly to drywall. These panels eliminate the need for a backer board.

@@AGlimpseInside It's a cool idea but seems extremely overpriced, 1/2" 4x8 B2 birch plywood is about $87 for me at a hardware store, you can cut 8 22"x22" squares out of that. Since you get 2 22"x22" for $100 that means that they're taking an $87(cheaper if they're buying in bulk) sheet and charging $400 for it after tossing it into a CNC machine for 300% profit (maybe 250-200% if you account for power usage).

@@AGlimpseInside You're a really good dude and that's a large part of why I subscribed to your channel. At the time, you were actually making projects but it appears you're no longer interested in that, which is a shame. Admittedly, not really a fan of your "new journey" of cranking out products to sell to other woodworkers, largely because I'm not interested in them but I do applaud you making a living for your family and think it's fantastic that you can. However, I'm not here to "support" you or other makers. It's a value proposition - I'm here to learn, discover new techniques, be somewhat entertained and in return I'll subscribe and even purchase something from you if I think there's value in it. I'm not going to buy something just to "support" makers or because April Wilkerson is involved and has CNC machines to fund (unsubscribed from her channel long ago). Granted, this is just my perspective but these panels look like a solution in search of a problem and I'm not interested in a boutique French cleat system - especially at that ridiculous price point. I apologize for the rant but the attitude of "support us, just because", touches a nerve. If all you're going to do is continue to make CNC'd products to sell to other woodworkers, I'm afraid I'm out. There's just no value in that for me.

@@wesir427 Baltic birch is sold in 5'x5'. These panels are 20"x20".
This means 9 panels per sheet or $300 in sales. My local supplier is $85 each right now in bulk 5+ sheets. Let's be generous and say it's only 1 hour machining and set up at $100. Factor in the headaches of setting up POS, marketing, packing/shipping, customer relations and he's probably barely turning a profit if at all.
It's a an interesting idea that solves problem that didn't exist using expensive materials and processes.... but he's not taking in the cash like you think. He be far better off licensing to a mass producer, but they'd just steal his idea and cheapen it to the point of unusability.
Anyone who has experience running a business and handling cash flow knows a 2x or 3x profit on materials is more than normal. Youre failing to calculate labor involved and profit necessary to sustain the business.
