      What are you looking for? I started a company selling off road equipment for Broncos, I can pretty easily made some stuff like I did for Expeditions. The problem is 2 things, do people really want to spend money or are they just wishing, (no judgement but parts aren't free) and shipping is expensive too. email me at rockymtnbroncos@aol.com to talk more.

    Just a note on tires. If you get the tires siped, you can run relatively aggressive mud terrains on ice and snow just fine. I have been running Hankook Dynapro MT tires all year round for 4 years now in Nordic winters no problems. Grip on ice and snow is comparable to dedicated studded winter tires.
    The truck is essentially the same, a 1997 4wd with 5.4 and 3.73. Just that I am running 285/75R16 tires with no lift on cheap 16x8" Mickey Thompson wheels with 4" BS (stock wheels are 4.5" backspacing). No rubbing anywhere even under full compression and full lock (except for the corners of the front bumper plastic which I took a handsaw to).

    Quick question. Why not go with a body lift instead of torsion twist? Ive seen cheap body lifts and am wondering if they're a good option for me or if I should choose something else. Whats your experience been?

    • @starksexpeditions121
      @starksexpeditions121  Před 3 lety +2

      I'm not a fan of body lifts. The reason I lift a vehicle is to give more clearance under the frame off road. That's also why I install larger tires. A body lift does nothing for better off road ability.

    I've seen probably all your videos on this rig. Just a couple questions for you. I have a 01 navigator I've replaced the air suspension with coil overs and springs installed supreme suspension 2in spacers on the rear and replaced torsion keys for 3 to 4in torsion lift this gave me plenty room for the 315/70/17 tires I did still have to trim running boards for turning clearance and also added 2in wheel spacers for the factory rims. Did you remove the sway bars for better articulation if so how well does it handle

    • @starksexpeditions121
      @starksexpeditions121  Před rokem

      Thanks for watching, I’m glad it was helpful. I too replaced the air suspension. I got a set of torsion bars from a non-air Expedition from Pull and Save and used stock keys, if you find your ride is bouncy or seems to spring back more quickly then is comfortable then the smaller air torsion bars may be twisted too much to get lift and that stored energy is why. Yes I did remove my swaybar in the front but not the rear. I found in past builds that if you keep the rear bar you still get front articulation but still some sway control on the road. Off road is 100 percent better without the bar. Just remember that without that bar it can become a problem on road in an quick lane change event. That being said I even pulled my 5000 pound trailer that way and just kept the speed down and did fine. I’d love to see you rig, do you have a link?

  • @mikeswain5921

    Did you specify the “mild lift”? I didn’t catch that. I have a 2011 and I’m liking the idea of just putting a leveling kit on it. But I’m curious what you got?

    • @starksexpeditions121
      @starksexpeditions121  Před rokem

      I replaced the air suspension with non-air front torsion bars and set the adjusters about 2” higher then before and at first added 2” coil spacers with stock springs in the back. As it sits now I got custom rear springs made to handle more weight in the back that replace the spacer/stock spring set up.

I find that she's a little low in the back and have ordered manually inflatable Firestone Airbags for the rear. What do you think? Also, your running boards are much nicer than the stock plastic ones. Where did you get those and how difficult to install them? I think the first gen Expedition is greatly underappreciated! • @starksexpeditions121
      @starksexpeditions121  Před rokem +1

      I’ve seen lots of pics of that year with bigger tires. I’m not 100 percent sure on that year but they are 0 off set. Meaning the backspacing is in the center of the width. This is the best for suspension geometry and bearing life. Most tire shops will tell you what the upsize tire size is. F150s use the same wheels so many choices out there.

The winch mount is a Warn 34701, I removed the lower bumper valance and flipped the mounting brackets to mount it high and worked perfect. I had to do some trimming to be able to plug the cable in but no big deal. I can build you a bumper (and sliders), if you are serious send me a message at rockymtnbroncos@aol.com The cost will be as cheap as I can (there is about $200 of steel, $150 in the hinge and latch, about 10 hours of labor) as I'm building bumpers for Broncos and this is a product with a small group willing to pay.
