    I do love my 2019 Ford Expedition. I also made sure I had the higher 402A Limited package with the LED lights and the Heavy Duty Tow Package that give me the rear lockers and a 4A and 4L settings.
    Question for you though... have you ever considered getting an Overlanding Trailer (i.e. Turtle Back, Patriot Campers) instead of outfitting the truck for a family of 5? We are a family of 4 right now and we will eventually do Overlanding stuff someday. Haha

    Cool video. I run a 2005 Expedition and I love it. Because my kids are grown, and I'm now single; I've removed all back seats for various reasons - primarily to build a lower profile kitchen system that doubles as a sleeping platform, which has worked out great for my particular needs. I'm really diggin' the looks and functionality of your Expedition!

    Nice build boss! I think the best takeaway when it comes to overlanding is it doesn't matter what you drive, it matters if it works for you. Jeep, truck, SUV, just get out there and enjoy it!

    I also have an Expedition (2014 4WD). With 4 kids, the larger vehicle is a must. Last year, someone rear ended my wife and totaled our 2wd Expedition and I stumbled upon our current one while shopping for something equivalent, and I snatched it up.
    As far as alterations go, I have removed the center seat in the second row. It makes it easier for the younger kids to get to the rear seats without having to fold and raise the center seats, and it is also where our dog lays down. I have added a leveling kit and popped on larger tires ... 285/75 R18’s which end up being a tad under 35”. As you mentioned, there is a difference between four-wheeling and overlanding. Here in north GA, 90% of MY obstacles will be creeks and streams in and around the national forest’s dispersed camping areas, so that is what I have base my ground clearance / suspension needs around. I have a DIY awning which seems to be working well so far on our day trips. Over the winter, I will work on our trail kitchen and in the spring I plan on adding a hidden winch. We are hammock campers, so we don’t have a tent to worry about accessing.
    Once all of the kids are out of the house and it’s just me and my better half, we MAY look for a different vehicle, but we are quite happy with what we have now.

      Awesome man! I tried to articulate as best as I could haha. I don't believe people are as close minded as they used to be towards different platforms. I believe you could most definitely do some great Overlanding with a minimally modded independent suspension vehicle 💪

    I picked up a 04 expedition. Rust free southern truck. 200,000. Miles. I've been converting it since Xmas. It's my dedicated weekend toy. I love it. Lots of miles left in it. My mechanic went through the entire truck. Everything is new. Alternator, starter. You name it. Paid $3000.00. For it. I've budgeted $12,000. That includes paint. A whole lot cheaper than a new one. Put a new servo motor on the transfer case. The 4wd works like a charm now. Put a set of milestar patagonia tires on it. 13000lb winch. Roof rack with lights. 1500 watt inverter. 2 gallon 110 watt air compressor. I don't want a lift kit. 2 ham radios. 1 CB radio. I've purchased everything in the Rhino USA catalog for recovery gear. Should be done in the fall. Cant wait. Lots of these used on the market. I've had my share of jeeps. The older I get I want Lots of room and comfort. The expedition is perfect. Nothing like big V8 power. Don't ever buy a used expedition with the air suspension. It costs a fortune to repair or replace parts. Mine did not come with it. I got lucky. Have fun out there.

    No vehicle is mistake for overlanding. All vehicles are the great overlanders. The only mistake is when people do not respect the limits of their particular vehicle! Overlanding doesn't have to be off road travel. There are people that overland in a Prius, or other cars, hatchbacks etc, traveling to various campgrounds respecting the limits of their vehicle

    I’ve got a 2021 Max with FX4 and 4L/locker. Overall, I hate this car so much I only managed to put on 4,800 miles for the year I’ve owned it. 16mpg city driving? Pfft. I get 12mpg city driving in Eco mode. I especially hate that the only way to fold the 3rd row is by going to the truck, and that the inverter only has 150W of juice vs the 400w the F150 gets. Can’t even blow up a mattress with that, so I have to bring my battery powered inflator.
    Ford calls these all-terrain tires? Ha! The tread is more fit for all-season, and they’re not even snow rated.
    This car has to compensate on every feature, except seating capacity. Now looking at the 2023 Sequoia instead of this PoS.

    • @kingdomoverlanding
      @kingdomoverlanding  Před 2 lety

      So many factors to consider on the MPG, driving style mostly. You may want to get it looked at if you drive conservative and don't have it loaded down or towing all the time. We get 11-12 mpg on trips.
      Maybe consider a different air pump, we've never had a problem filling up air mattresses.
      I've never offroaded on factory tires so not sure about that one. Although the new Bronco sasquatch 35s are definitely pretty meaty for a factory tire.
      There's nothing better for power, space and Mpg on the market IMO, but definitely excited to what the new Sequoia can do. We'll see if Toyota put forth a full size contender 💯
