    Suggestion!!!
    You go live and it’s just Matt and Thrsdy watching all of Elf.
    I’ll contribute to paying for the licensing because I need more of Matt giggling uncontrollably at something funny in my life.

    My father looks exactly like Will Ferrell. My father is also a Cantor with a semi-opera voice. When my younger brother and I watched the movie Step Brothers........ There is a scene at the end when Will Ferrell sings his version of "Time to Say Goodbye" from Andrea Bocelli..........It sounded + looked like my father singing at Mass. This is one of my favorite memories.

    Will Ferrell DVDs differ from grapes.

    Elf is hilarious and extremely rewatchable, also the LEGO movie. Will Ferrell is just a one part of a big ensemble cast in that move, but the whole thing is really funny and clever.

      Stepbrothers is a movie that is hilarious, but it is very sexual with multiple depictions of infidelity and fornication. Not to mention nudity.
      Things spoken about on this channel would imply Thursday stopped watching the movie because of these things in the movie.

    • @Clif87
      @Clif87 Před měsícem +2

      @@themirrorflattersnot for me, I watched it in my 20s at the cinema and thought it was absolutely hilarious. But I was also not in a good place spiritually and living in sin. I seriously wouldn't judge anybody for watching it, it's my conscience, but I would advise against watching it and similar movies. Just personally over the years since taking my faith more seriously, I've felt more uncomfortable watching it and similar movies. There are some scenes and characters in the film that I now don't want to see or hear, which ruins the bits of great comedy for me. My wife wanted to watch it with me last year and I said sure, (she hadn't seen it) then my mind cycled through what I remembered of it and I said no 20 minutes later. If I'm uncomfortable watching it with my wife then I'm uncomfortable watching it with Christ (to use a true but cheesy phrase!).

      I respect your answer, Clif.
      I don't know, it just seems like overkill to me. The film is made for you to laugh. It's comedy. You're not sinning if you watch a raunchy comedy. It's not even real, whereas something like pornography ACTUALLY is the act of sin and is deliberately designed to draw you into sinning because of it. That's totally different. The comedy simply reflects and pokes fun out of some aspects of reality and humanity.
      The Bible reflects many horrible aspects of reality and humanity too, but it's not made for that. It's made for reflection, storytelling, history, a lesson. Should i avoid reading the Bible? Should i not read Crime and Punishment because it describes a violent murder in detail?
      I think (not directed at anyone, just impersonally): how fragile is your faith and/or virtue that you can't be exposed to depictions of undesirable behaviour that DON'T have the intent of induction into sin? Are you to live in a bubble? Sin is everywhere. Know it, but overcome it... No?

    • @Clif87
      @Clif87 Před měsícem

      @@themirrorflattersnot I totally understand where you're coming from, this may be purely a case of personal conscience. I wouldn't call it a sin to watch raunchy comedies necessarily, but as Christians, our lives aren't just a daily legal battle of what constitutes sins, venial or mortal, that's on the negative side. The positive side is love, love for Christ and His Church and seeking to pursue the good and turn away from not just the evil, but as St Paul says, turn away from anything that hinders your walk with God and your love and devotion to Christ. Now, having said all that, I know that watching these things did have an impact on me and I understand that the same things might not have an impact on you. In the same way, I have never struggled with alcoholism, I do drink but very rarely and it has no lasting pull on me, so for me, I have no issue going to a bar, I don't feel any particular temptation with it. But I have friends who have struggled in that area and would prefer that we don't meet in bars, which I respect. So, I would still advise against watching those types of movies, (the same way some of my friends would still advise me to avoid bars) but I can't call it a sin. I would also advise, as best you can, try to be wary of who you watch those movies with, as you may unknowingly be tempting someone in an area which doesn't bother you. It's not really a matter of faith, it's a matter of conscience (see 1 Corinthians 8). Your point on the Bible is not really the same. If we take a story from the Bible as an example, Ham in Genesis 9, sees his Father (Noah) naked when drunk and in some way makes fun of or perverts the situation. Then Noah, when he sobers up, curses Ham for his act of perversion, for dishonouring his Father. But there is something in this story, that relates to the way that secular movies show nudity, profanity, sexualised language and humour, even abusive or psychotic characters. They sort of make light of these serious subjects, which depending on the subject can impact most of us. You're absolutely right in saying that the Bible has some horrendous stuff, but also as you said, it's got a different purpose and intention behind it. The same with Crime and Punishment (a brilliant story), it reveals something deeply about the human psyche, about sin, lying, confession, guilt, repentance, grace, etc. But yes it uses a dark story to draw out these themes, almost as well as the Bible does! But good art is very intentional and inspired. I can't say that about movies like Step Brothers or the Hangover, which used to be one of my favourites as well. So all that to say, as a brother in Christ, be vary of these things but first and foremost focus on Christ and he will guide your thoughts and your conscience. I know I have a lot to grow in myself and like you say, it can't be about living in a bubble either.

  • @John_Fisher
    @John_Fisher Před měsícem

    I totally get Thrsdy's hesitation to explain what POV means, because in contemporary internet culture it doesn't just mean "You are watching from this "Point Of View". 'POV' usually means 'I am introducing you to the concept behind this scene'.
    The thing that is described is usually something that you are still watching from a 3rd person POV that is normal to any video rather than the 1st person POV described. In other words, the one thing that they didn't need to tell you about the POV was the 'POV' part.

    • @skitsschist11

      That's only because people are stupid and can't make the memes correctly. When POV first came around it was literally "point of view."

    I'm sorry, but our opinion is that Will Ferrell is crude and vulgar. We watched enough of his movies to make that decision years ago.
    I will say that we did watch Elf, and found it to be the only truly decent movie we've seen him make. Which is sad, because he has so much talent, and wastes it on asinine movies.
    Too much profanity.
    Too much sexual innuendo.
