Ok…this may be the one project I just might not be doing myself!…thanks for the reality check.
Lol Forreal
It’s easier than it looks
This has taught me a very important lesson. This is NOT a DIY project and ill be buying a resurfacing kit instead 😂
Bro I’m already in it and it sucks
@@alliepruett1094 I fixed a chip, sanded, and then did a full resurface of my tub. It's shiny white and looks great
@@mattypantswhats your tub material?
Here’s a tip. -if it’s a one-piece shower/tub insert DO NOT cut out the walls as well. Never would have dreamt in a million years that there would be electrical lines behind the shower, but let me tell you it’s not super fun to find those with a saws all.
OMG dude that's horrible! I had to stop myself from going" oh no! Are you okay!?"
But then I was like...ghosts don't write comments sooo they must be fine. But still...that had to suck so much! Thank you for this very valuable advice!
Not only one piece, thought I was safe either a tiled one… nope wires on both side walls. Multiple heights.
Perfectly timed release!!
Good callab. This old house is my favorite how to youtube channel
Might sound stupid but if i hire someone to replace the bathtub, can that include potential damaged subflooring underneath?
Never use silicone on the drain like this guy, unless you want it to leak in a few years to space below, use Plummers puffy.
Do you have to take out All the tile from the top of the tub to ceiling? Or can you just take out the 1st few rows of subway tiles? I have a partially renovated bathroom, but they kept the old cast iron(or maybe it’s porcelain) tub and it’s very shallow; I’d prefer a deeper tub. Just trying to see if the whole bathroom has to be re-renovated? The floor tiles around the tub were replaced too, so they’d probably have to come out too 😤
Does that means wall on tub gets tear?
How do you get to the drain if your bath tub is on the ground floor with a slab floor?
Have to create a trench to run the plumbing. Rent a small Jackhammer.
The same way he said in the video
Great video but t hurts my heart to see cast iron getting replaced by acrylic!
Same!
Went with the lowes version Mansfield better price point and the shower base is stainless with porcelain finish.
Did you renovate the entire bathroom?
@@victorcordero1458 no just replaced the tub and put a ada toilet
In an existing basement bathroom 5x8’ remove the fiberglass tub and shower by cutting it up, got that, what CC about the new tub and shower surround, will it fit through the door?
What did you end up doing?
I was in a similar situation about 20 years ago and we ended up taking out the drywall wall to help get the new shower in.
@@sarahcinelli5328 we are going to refinish the tub, not replace it. Saw don hood videos on how to do it in one day. Looks like new, they say. We’re going to wait till it’s warmer , so windows and g be e opened to vent the fumes.
Good idea. Hope it works out. I want to tear mine out too. Some rust so not sure I can/or want to paint it. But would save $$ and look a million times better.
I never see a video on replacing a tub that is on a concrete foundation how do you get to the drain lines?
Rent a jackhammer + drill out a trench.
Is it possible to install a tub on the back of a pick-up truck?
See now youre asking the important questions
Why would you want to?
I... I think I'll demolish it myself and let a professional install the new one🥴 my clumsy ass might drop the new tub and crack it or something
Okay, so this is an excuse to get new tools, but do I REALLY want to do this? Yeah, gonna get a refinishing kit.
in case you are in the apartment and someone else lives below you, what happens.
I would prefer not to lay mortar nor put in a 300lb cast iron tub. Does anyone know the make and model of the tub installed from this home depot video? it seems to be acrylic with a solid foundation.
Sterling
I had the same question
How do you get the new tub through the damn bathroom door???
You gotta pray that your bathroom door is at least 14 to 18” wide 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
I just want to replace the drain plug, but it is severely corroded from our hard water. The metal just chips away 😅
Just the part with the holes? Ez. Unscrew + screw in new.
If its the up down thing, you need to be careful not to drop it b4 reattaching new.
Buy a tub drain cover
Can anyone let me borrow there tub drain wrench… I seem to have misplaced mine somewhere.
You can alternatively put the handle of a pair of channel locks down the drain hole and twist them counterclockwise with a wrench.
Y’all if you are reading this…. I accidentally cracked my bathtub…… we might need to replace it and my dad will not be happy so I’m screwed
Lol, what ended up happening?
@@zerepmoto4402 turns out there was a mistake in the way it was built so it wasn’t my fault
Looks like I'm paying a plumber 3k for this project
Lol...I feel the same 😂
Didn't show the most important part: how to take the new tub inside the bathroom.
So what your saying is, hire a professional right??
WHY WOULD YOU CAULK THE DRAIN
Seriously. That will make it so much harder to replace down the road.
Agree, that is stupidest thing in this video.
Eh,.....I think I'll let a plumber do this one.
Better know the f*** you doing on this 🤣
How about an example of a more typical bathtub NOT a hundred year old cast iron relic
Don't bother shopping at home depot you'll regret it
Why
This video moves too quickly to be helpful.
You can hit pause anytime by tapping center of screen. You can rewind by tapping, see red line, push it back.
Always have to slip in, work with a licensed... give me a break.
I mean... liability, yo.
@@jasonashifrin Liability is bullshit if the work is done correctly. Not every home owner is incompetent, or inexperienced, or doesn't know how to research and plan.
@@socksincrocks4421 That's exactly one of the reasons they slipped that in there. The work isn't always done correctly when a home owner does it. And depending on the decisions made around water, electrical, gas, and engineering, there's tons of room to make mistakes. Especially when a person is inexperienced. Are there plenty of folks that can do it right and not be professionals? Absolutely. Are there people who definitely shouldn't be attempting this? Sure! And there are plenty of people in between.
Yaa I’ll just hire this out. Screw this
