- Herald Brat 125 Review: Here it is - the antidote to biking exotica, a back to basics no nonsense bike oozing with cool...in this video I ride the Herald Brat 125 and tell you what I think of this budget learner/commuter bike. Oh, and before anyone pipes up in the comments, yes it was recorded in the summer and yes I know the mic sounds a bit poppy and scratchy...my apologies in advance.....I hope you enjoy the video none the less!

I love that you still do 125 reviews 👍
Hi Andy, you’ve inspired me to document my journey on CZcams as an older rider through my CBT and beyond! I love your content and hopefully I can then help someone with their journey in the future. 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice one - I'll go check it out....
Love it, riding 20 years, never got into bigger bikes, smaller ones are so much fun!! great to see these types of reviews. Looking forward to more on this bike, see how durable etc, and fantastic to see a British company with this.
Cheers Alistair - thanks for watching!
That’s really exciting news right there, fully British made, let’s hope they do 👏🏻😎
Really like your review and good to see a bike that is more affordable for many people. Will be interested to see/hear how it holds up over time. Cheers - and happy New Year.
Happy new Year Phil!
Yeah, I've become very disillusioned with big, powerful bikes in recent years. I think 125 to 650 is the best span of sizes for bikes unless your into 2 up touring. My personal sweet spot is around 500. Enough power to progress, light enough to manage, can use all the power on every ride but has the best performance between 20 and 60, just where the speed limits are. Amazing that.
Interesting vid, be real nice to see a UK manufacturer doing good! Look forward to seeing the Brute too
Andy, a tour of the Herald factory or assembly facilities would be a great video. Maybe an opportunity for going to other British based assembly facilities? Motorcycle, bicycle, boating and aviation? Just a thought.
Funny you should say that I was thinking earlier about a very similar idea!
@@TheMissendenFlyer This is a great idea. Would like to see this sort of content on your channel Andy:-)
Spot on Earl Bigod, that would be interesting. On all British built models from Triumph to sinnis
@@TheMissendenFlyer - A Brompton factory tour and review!
Like the sound of this...👍
Nice look’n bike, and with the right tyres could be good fun off road.
Your definitely the champ at Reviews Andy.
Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year. May 2021 be all you would like it to be
Thanks, you too!
Really looking forward to seeing you review the Brute.
Great review. My Cb500fa for touring, Worx 125 for local rides and town suit me. I have the best of both worlds. 62 years in the saddle and despite 27 makes and models of bikes I've found my ideal combination. No, not a sidecar combination. Just cancelled my subscription to two biking mags as they concentrate on tall, powerful thirsty bikes to which I no longer relate. I can't see the point of 130, 140 mph when you can't use all that power. Still, at 79 yrs old I don't want a bike that goes faster than I can THINK. Happy riding in the New Year. JB of Gosport.
Hi, I feel the same way about motorcycle press as you. We are being brainwashed into thinking we need 270kg bike to ride through a muddy field. No one seems to understand Physic anymore.
Hey great to see an affordable bike review I have been watching Herald for couple of years would like buy British. More reviews of their bikes would be great I may even sell the NTV and take the plunge 😄
Loving the energy you have of just having fun motorcycling on a 125!
Thank you very much Emrie!
Definitely giving Mutt a run for their money in the best looking 125 bike bracket. Personally I prefer the Herald
I own a mutt mastiff and its fair to say if I had seen one of these I might have had one.
@@SD-tj5dh the mutts are lovely looking bikes though and fun and easy to ride
Seen the Mutt Razorback?
@@Shane988 yes. Bloody awful!
I’m prefer the mutt. Seat heights lower, so might be good for a shorty or newby
Good review Mr Flyer, decent looking bike I started on a CB125 many moons ago
That is very cool! Love the LED indicators and the matte finish on the tank.
Me too!
Excited to hear they're going to manufacture the whole bike eventually. I'll have to offer my support, it's the least I could do (would that sentiment convince the wife I wonder?)
Couldn't agree more. It actually gives me some hope when I hear that there are British companies manufacturing good things!
Hi Glad you have come down to earth, reviews like this will increase your subscribers towards the younger generation. HAPPY NEW YEAR. BeingMe
Happy new year!
Got my CBT in Feb. This is very tempting to me as a learner while I work on the further licences throughout next year. Sounds by your review it might be a good choice for me. Pretty smart looking bike too.
Best of luck!
Great watch. For the money you can't knock it. As Bruce, Richy and Mr Fish demonstrated you can have a lot of fun even if your used to 100bhp+ Its a pity it's gone back because it would have been interesting to see how the quality held up over the winter. Thanks for sharing. Happy new year to you and family. Thanks for keeping me entertained during a testing year. I hope 2021 is going to get us somewhere close to what used to be the normal
Well said!
An interesting and thought provoking review
Nice review of a very cool & stylish little bike. I remember checking out the Herald stand at the last NEC show as they looked great at a fantastic price.
Yes cool bits of kit aren’t they....
What a fantastic looking bike,I would had loved this when I was 17,great vid.
You and me both!
sounds lovely, worth going off road on this
What a promising bike review to end the year on ;) It really appeals to me, not just for the CBT. Seems like it might be a good commuter ride. It seems to fall in your category of 'all that you need, and nothing that you don't'. I look forward to them producing an entirely British bike. Happy New Year to you and the Mrs.
Happy new year to you too!
Great review of a cracking little bike for the price.......stay safe......thanks for sharing
looks great fun, loved the Mary Poppins quote "in the most delightful way "
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Been riding over thirty years, so much fun on a small bike. Toured France on a 125 and 250.
Hoping we have a better year next year Andy.
I hope so too!
Great review as always, looks like a decent bike for 3 k , looking forward to seeing the brute 500 👊
You and me both!
Great video of such a lovely bike.Glad that you not forget about
this sort of bikes.I hope you will do a review of the new
Royal Enfield Meteor 350 someday...👍
You can bet money on it!
I have a 125 for commuting, nothing better for it, 250 miles from £12 worth of fuel, will do 65-70 mph, £20 Road tax and peanuts to insure, like you said, everybody should have one.
That sounds great...do you mind me asking what bike you have? Cheers
@@domkane30 I have a 2017 Honda CB125F. Great bike.
@@Chris-gj4br ah nice one! I've been looking at that too. Cheers mate
@@Chris-gj4br had one aswell for my CBT 2016, wish i'de kept it now for commuter, got tiger 800 now loving it aswell.
@@chrisatpreston yeah, I kept mine to rack the daily mileage up on and its mega simple and cheap to run and service, ideal for keeping my speed triple in decent order 👍
Very nice Andy and for 3k what's not to love keep up the great work
Very interesting! Nice to see,and hear of a new British company! The bike looks lovely.
Indeed!
What a fun video. I learned to ride on a 125 on dirt roads and learned things about traction and maintaining corner speeds that I still use today. (Big difference in how we do motorbike licenses over here. Once you pass your paper-and-pencil and road tests, you can buy and ride any kind of bike you want.)
Scary biscuits!
Loving this bad boy
Took delivery of one of these a month ago, can't wait for the follow up videos. Did have the clutch pedal link fall apart on the first ride, I've put that down to the dealer rather than Herald.
Hi was thinking to get the new version of this bike, how did it go with yours? it seems it's not the most reliable bike on the market, how was your experience? cheers!
I've seen these at the NEC show and they always look great 👍
Neat look forward to the 500 version
Great looking bike, think my wife needs one 😁👍🏻
Looks really good! Reminds me a bit of the Indian FTR 1200. That Brute looks really interesting! Happy new year mr Flyer!
Happy new year!
Get mrs flyer to have a go at the Honda cb125r neo-cafe. Feels very stable for a 125, nice chunky tyres and reliable 👍🏻 great video as always love the looks 😁
Great looking bike, the brute sounds interesting as well. These sort of bikes must be a dream to commute and filter on 👍
Agreed!
Lovely looking 125 TMF, will be interesting to see your review on the Brat 500. I took the plunge and bought a KTM Duke 125 for 3K only because there was nothing else around, every 125 in the South East was sold out or waiting until March/April 2021. (thank you Covid ) anyways I'm learning how to ride my 125, in the space of 1 month i've dropped it twice, spun the bike around in the wet and stalled it more times than I can remember ! all on a CBT, slowly but surely I'm beginning to relax and calm down. It was a good choice to buy a 125 outright rather than pay £90 a lesson, cant wait to pass my DAS course after the winter is over. Thanks for another great review and a Happy New Year to you and mrs Flyer
Good luck it and Happy New Year to you too....
I've been riding 44 years and these last few years have brought some appealing new bikes at a great price
Ideal indeed for commuting, getting around in your neighborhood or just ride for the fun of it. No parking problems, there always be a small spot where you can park it.
It reminds me on my youth riding a 50cc bike; great fun while riding with your friends.
But.... a 250-500cc can do the same, has a bit more power, probably has luggage capacity, screen etc.
What a brilliant bike let’s hope more can be done here in the uk,
Absolute hoot to have one to run round the lanes or going to town
Do I sense Carol squeezing one into the man cave great video cheers terry 👍🏍🎄
Sadly this was too tall for her - out plan was to keep it long term for her to practice on but alas she couldn't reach the floor!
What a great little good looking bike! And it did remind me of my first bike the good old BSA Bantam 175, lots of fun until a car pulled out right in front of me and unfortunately wrote it off. Nice one as usual TMF 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice Styled bike. Good job Herald.
Just love the look of this bike. I have a 750, a 500 and a 125 and I do love a chug out on the 125. Can’t wait to see the Brute. Thanks TMF 👍
My pleasure....
Great positive review, Triumph missed a trick not having a small cc bike in the range. Ministry transport website says 13,786 bike tests conducted a year
I agree!
Looks great fun.
Just searched for the Brute, very interesting !
Told you it sounded good!
Good to see small companies starting to make bikes again in the UK. It seems well sorted for a 125 though I can't understand why the EU haven't made ABS compulsory on this type of bike. I get that putting it on adds cost but as the target riders are learners so at more risk it just doesn't make sense to me at all.
A shame we don't have these in the US I really love and trust your reviews these really look awesome absolutely love this little brat 125 and that copper color is killer and that exhaust crazy handmade looking
Really cool looking bike. I want one!
There’s so many great 125 choices these days. I’m pretty old although behind you TMF and when I was learning there wasn’t all of these great choices. I would happily zip around on something like this for a town bike.
So would I - no quicker way to get through London traffic!
I’ve had bikes from 50cc to 1100cc and everyone has been fun. I don’t think this one is going to be any different. Looks a great machine.
Nice to hear someone who's ope minded with regards to the bikes that are coming in from China. As a born again biker I decided at 50 I wanted to get back on 2 wheels. I treated myself to the lexmoto lxr and ran it for a trouble free year before passing my test
Nice one Sean!
great review again TMF - thank you. Would be interesting for us punters if you tried a Mutt 125 for comparison. Compliments of the season to you and your family.
Like this you mean? czcams.com/video/pmxlr1CrNHk/video.html
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yes indeed - thank you!
The AJS Isaba is quite similar to this style too. Both good looking bikes.
Cool bike, nice review
Thanks! 👍
Looks like a lot of fun and good value.
What a gorgeous little bike! I'd happily ride that
Yes cool isn’t it!
I sat on one of these at the bike show in birmingham last year, ever since I really wanted the 250cc version they are some day going to release, but considering it's £3k new I'm so tempted to get one because it probably won't depreciate too much, plus it looks the biz and sounds great
It sure does....
👍 Cool looking bike
Great to see a company bringing manufacturing back to Britain
Couldn't agree more!
I often wonder where motorcycling is headed. There's nothing more linear and tactile, when it comes to riding something, that really connects you to the road. As the saying goes.. " if it aint broke, don't fix it".
Great review!
Would be great to see you ride my first bike as a late starter. A 1978 Honda CG125 which I believe is still going!
Nice looking bike i like the colors. tyres look good and chunky
What a cracking little bike! It would be great if they made a 250cc version. Definitely good for a few green lanes. Assembled in the UK is becoming a thing nowadays, and why not? Engines and frames are made in China for many other top brand bikes. I imagine it allows UK pruducers to compete with Chinese bikes, which is a good thing.
Edit. I've just googled Brat 250 and it comes out in March 2021. Get on to Herald and book a test drive for a review please Andy.
I agree - the more choice out there the better! Particularly at this end of the price spectrum....
In today’s market, global manufacturing is to be expected. The real question a buyer needs to consider is the overall QC of the finished product. I’m old enough to remember when bikes from Japan were thought of as “suspect” quality, and we certainly don’t think that way now 😉. I always get a chuckle when you point out frame welds that are a bit dodgy because I can remember the Spanish bikes of the 70’s looking like the frames were held together with a series of “warts” and not welds 😆. The first time I saw a Rickman frame I couldn’t take my eyes of the welds, a true work of art 🤩.
Yes there's no doubt welding quality does vary on bikes - even on this single bike it goes from cool on the exhaust to hideous on the frame.....
Nice little bike !
That looked fun! Being an SR500 fan I'm quite interested in the 500 Brute. Hope you get one of those as a long termer. Looks like I have two Herald dealers within 20 mins ride. At 7k the Brute looks like a cracking bike for weekend B-road blasting!
Yes I need to have a go on one for sure!
Interesting ride, not going to replace anything in the garage but I am keen to see if it is an additional set of wheels for a runaround
Best of luck to them. I won’t lie as a rebadger of Chinese tatt I wasn’t particularly interested in them, but clearly they are going to try and make it as a an actual manufacturer so all the more power to them!
Hopefully they can move any future overseas manufacturing to Taiwan though so they don’t get done like scomadi now they’re pushing their own designs
I really like the way that looks. Their 'Cafe 400' looks ace too....
Me too....
Great video. I took my UK motorcycle test on a Triumph Tiger Cub 250 in 1981. Also a simple single cylinder bike. This seems to be a big improvement: more speed, better brakes, less vibration. Herald seems to be coming a bit late to the party with petrol engines expected to be banned in 2030. I can’t help but think e-bikes are the way to go. I’m riding rented 125cc bikes in Vietnam and they are surprisingly competent - even to the point of carrying 2 passemgers with luggage over mountain passes.
Nice one!
The 2030 ban on sales of ICE cars and vans, does not include motorcycles and scooters
@@BigBadLoneWolf oh, really? I didn’t know that. Personally, I’m trying to move to electric sooner rather than later.
Things have certainly come on leaps and bounds since I started on my humble Honda 50. I graduated to a Triumph Terrier 150 for my test in 1969 and went down hill from there!!. I still have my Suzuki RF900 RW abandoned in the storage unit having given up riding now. A terrific little bike in general but maybe a bit tall for the average lady rider, perhaps they could address that and bring out a lower seat version!!
Indeed, that would be handy for my Mrs.....
What a great looking bike :)
So will Misses Flyer (Carol), now that she has her CBT be having a go on this 125 mmmm
Fantastic review once again Andy 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That was the plan (and hence why we had arranged to keep it for a long while) but sadly the bike was too tall for her....
What a cracking bike, love the Momdial HPS 125 but this looks easily as good from what you can see
Quite a cool little bike!
Great review, looking for a starter bike
Glad I could help!
Superb.
Simpl, fun, cheap. If 3000 is cheap.
What's not to like?
Happy travels
Great review of a brand that's not the usual me too!
Thanks for watching!
Cool little bike 👍
Sure is
Seems they were going for the MV-style exhaust welded-from-many-sections look. I think they did a great job.
What a cool looking bike. I like all of it. Would prefer a Japanese donk though ..not because of reliability, just because these are copied directly and it doesn't sit right. ...anyway, wish we could get these in NZ. Back in the day we called those trials tyres and we all had them on our scramblers and rode them everywhere. Road, dirt, sandy trails. Then we got all cool and got "knobblies"!!
Thats a good looking bike👍
A good bike to learn on and gain experience especially in preparation for the UK Mod 1 & Mod 2 tests. The latest model of the bike, the one with the radiator has a bit more power.
Good to know! Cheers....
Bit late to the party - but woo Herald! I've started with a Herald 125 Cafe racer :)
Elizabeth Rose I love mine.I’ve had a couple of issues with the fuel lines and electrics but in general it’s been great.
Great little bike. Great review.
Sounds like you need to move your microphone to one side to cut down on the 'popping'. 😊
Indeed - I refer you to the note in the description!
The Brute looks good.
I have althe Brixton bx125r in red. I was always abit sceptical about Chinese bike seeing the first lot come in many years ago.but having risen this one now for since march in all weather. Keeping it clean and doing the maintenance it's been brilliant. Had the slight issue but that was resolved with a check and re tightening. I do like the heralds but they were out my price range at the time. I got my Brixton for 1499 which wasn't bad. Also got helmet. Jacket and trousers which was a bonus. I only use the jacket now though as I have better stuff.
Nice one Andy....
Very interesting little bike got there. Some thing a bit different. Perfect for nipping to the shop without getting the big bike out.
Very true....
Great review 👍 have you looked at the Mash x-ride 650? That's a nice looking bike with the gold wheels and white paint. Only £4999 too.
Yes I have...cool looking thing.
Do agree them welds look shabby.
Nice lil runner ,wonder what the 500 version 🤔 be like to ride ,hope can do vid on it andy be cool 😎
Good review TMF
What a cool bike, it's like an XSR700 / 900 front end meets Z900RS back end. Smiles for miles for little money, a winner indeed. Thanks TMF, really enjoyed that one.
Glad you liked it Colin.....
Very, very cool 125 👍
I've a Brixton 125 cafe racer style. A Chinese made/Austrian badged machine same engine as the Herald by the look of it. Absolutely loving it as I am new to motorcycling. Although I paid half the price @TMF quoted for the Herald.
Wow a bargain then!
