    Why Hi-Res? The best way to put it that I can think of is this:
    1. Our human ears are limited to 20Hz-20KHz, yes, no arguing with that.
    2. But natural sound frequencies in nature(analog) is not capped by this human hearing capabilities!
    3. Frequencies beyond 20KHz can ‘shape’ how we hear 20-20KHz sounds.
    4. This is why Hi-Res sound feels so natural and ‘real’ in human audible frequency range.
    5. You are not hearing the frequencies >20KHz.
    6. But you are hearing how these >20KHz inaudible frequencies are interacting and shaping audible frequencies.

    So I'm looking at buying the XM-1ES but I'm a bit unsure as I have a sony SVC sub with an RMS of 300W@ 4Ohms would this be okay?
    I'm also thinking about adding another sub (exact same) but does this mean the impedance will drop overall if I connect them to the amp directly given that it has 2 outputs?

      Hi Brandon, the Sony XM-1ES is too much for your current sub or even two of them. If you stick with 2 single 4-ohm voice coil subs rated at 300 watts RMS, something around the 600 RMS rating at 2-ohms will work best. Would you like help choosing?

    Is the sub channel impedance independent of channels 1-4?
    In order words, can I run channels 1-4 @4ohm & channel 5 @2ohm, for a single DVC 4ohm sub?

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  Před rokem

      Yes, that will work. You can run each channel at 4 or 2-ohms.

    Yup, definitely buying that 5 channel, does it have built in DSP as well? And when is it available?

      Excited for you! The Sony XM-5ES does not have a built-in DSP; but, it does include built-in crossovers for each channel and a wired remote bass level control is included. Sorry, there is currently no ETA on this model. But, you can reserve one by ordering now. We won't charge you until we ship it. www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc921/p_158XM5ES/item.html

    How big the difference is between XM-4ES and XM-GS4 in terms of SQ?

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  Před rokem +1

      That is a tough question to answer because the difference that you experience depends on a few factors. One of which is your hearing and how much detail you experience with high resolution audio. And then high resolution audio must be played through the radio and sent to the amp.
      People who can hear the difference in normal and high resolution audio often describe the difference as a day/night level.

      Xm is a AB class so it maybe better for SQ

    In what world, is 1000 watts a lot of power for a sub?

    • @infinitebeing1119
      @infinitebeing1119 Před rokem

      It's peak power not continuous power you need to look into RMS. That peak power may happen within micro seconds for few moments at higher volumes.
