- race 2 in the MR2 championship at Cadwell Park July 2009. Starting from 3rd I missed a gear on Park straight and lost a number of places. Whilst pushing har to regain a position I put a wheel on the grass spinning out and crashing into the tyre wall.

Bloody hell that was some close racing! could have literally parked in that blue mr2's exhaust
I was desperate to get back in front, too desperate as it turns out!
Anthony Day Well it was still brilliant racing, hope the damage wasn't too bad
@@AnthonyDay man you were driving well up until that point apart from the missed gear at the start. The final mistake if you would clarify seems going a bit wide on the overtake, baking off and touching the grass? How do you think you could have avoided the spin?
@@AnthonyDay yeah, shitty driving. stick to the school zones and of the track
@@finnegandylan800 My God... the scammers are evolving. Sucks about the crash dude, even more so with these bots trying to hijack your comment thread 4 bloody years later.
Sorry to see the crash mate, but brilliant driving from you all here, great entertainment!, we all have had our moments
Thanks, good to hear your positive comments!
@@AnthonyDay that spin happens to me alot in gran turismo sport, you touch one of the reaers onto that grass patch the car steps out and then thats when the car makes its choice
@@neozone_hyrax.raw. I was just thinking the same 😂😂😂 you and I both knew it was over when we saw the touch on the grass right?

O_o.............i knew a race full of mr2's was going to be good but wow that video alone gets the blood pumping at how close the cars are matched and how close each car is. that looks like alot of fun
I was anxious about people braking at those corners
@@Noname-ki9mu me too
@@Noname-ki9mu That's what makes it fun-when your butt clenches at every corner
this is some scary race with high level competition!!
That track looks amazing. Love the elevation changes.
Sucks that you were stuck behind that blue one though. Looks like you would've been making some decent ground if you were ahead of him.
For sure. And he wouldn’t have got by if he didn’t miss the shift!
Guy in second place in the red MR2 has some skills! You too my man, I could feel your frustration through the screen every time that blue MR2 over braked a little but still didn't leave you any room to get by. God that's an awful feeling on a narrow track, being pushed farther and father back by a slower driver/car who has just a narrow enough track to keep holding you off. Someday I'll be able to handle my MR2 like you chaps, good show!
Love the camera angle, felt like real life Gran Turismo
TBH I was just trying to harass him into making a mistake that I could then capitalise on.
pls no more crash
so you're the guy that turns ghosting on in your races, honestly same, the art of racing shows in high pressure and can show your skills or show lack thereof. It's a mechanic used in racing so I don't really mind that, twas just a mistake you made.
That turned out to be a stupid move. LOL
Recommended by CZcams (today 02-Jun-21) - what a brilliant race! Thank you for sharing all those years ago ;) This 3.5 min video is a way more exciting that the last few seasons of F1 quite frankly. Very exciting.
It can all go wrong so fast at Cadwell! Really exciting video, 7 years on. Are you still racing?
I am still racing. I went on to develop and race a highly modified mk2 turbo and then a 3.5ltr V6 powered Roadster in both the years since then. I have however just sold both those cars and this season went back to racing in the MR2 Championship.
Was there any major handling or other drawbacks in your V6 Roadster? Do you mind me asking why you sold it?
@@turbanelite It doesn't handle as well as a stock engine car, that is for sure.
This track is exactly the kind I love. Some bumps, tight twisty turns and elevation changes.
Damn Caldwell is a difficult track. I knew the second I saw MR2 crash in the title that it was going to be some of that sweet sweet snap oversteer we know and love lol
thanks for the upload, I had a adrenaline just watching it.
I love MR2s, especially the SW20.
Came for the crash, stayed for the ridiculously close racing.
It looks like a very tough track and your driving was very good, minus the mistakes obviously.
I really hope your mr2 recovered from the accident. Mistakes happen, and that was either way some great driving.
Yep, after getting repaired the car went on to fight many more battles before I eventually sold it.
Oh interesting, may I ask how much did you sell it for exactly?
Was yours a sw20 na or turbo?
Excuse my curiosity, but I find them to be awfully interesting.
I wish to someday trade my sentra to something that can actually accelerate.
one of the coolest racing video's i have ever seen.
I never knew MR-2’s were THAT cool, thank you sir for this awesome content, very intense driving.
You own a new subscriber cheers!
I feel weird not having a controller in my hand watching this
How have I only just been able to find this? This racing is insane. So much aggression lol. amazingly close.
I used to auto-X an MR2 mark 3. This brought back many great memories. Killer driving too, great job.
Damn the graphics on the new Gran Turismo games are amazing!
seeing so many MR2s is beautiful :')
If any track needs 8ft more width...
I haven't even watched the whole vid but I'm absolutely loving it. Great content
SHIT!! 😂😂
Most quality 3 mins I’ve spent today. Great driving!
Glad I found this in 2021 what a race
I really dig the way you placed the camera so that it has the forward view and a close enough view of the mirror to get both angles at the same time! Nice camera work, and even more exciting driving 👌
Awesome Racing! One of the most important things in racing is keeping your cool and being patient. Studying your opponent, waiting and keeping the pressure on! Often times just staying behind and not fighting for pos. will help get back to the front, and when they start to fall back with you behind them, they start to panic and that's when you strike!! such Awesome racing!!
Yessss!!! Omfg, most glorious 3 minutes, you are phenomenal!
Thank you George, I appreciate that that 👍
@@AnthonyDay Ive got an AW11 with a 2zz that I hope to have up Cadwell in a couple months, I drove it there last year too.. I drive mine differently to you!
What in your opinion are the most logical handling mods to make? What geometry did you aim for?
@@matteightytwo Rogue Motorsport (roguemotorsport.com) might be able to help you with setup advice as they run the MR2 Championship supporting drivers and cars in all three classes, MK1,2 & 3.
@@AnthonyDay Good to know. Another step is the roll centr adjusters etc and then well be getting somewhere
Forgot I was watching a crash video man that was some nice racing
Great racing! I was gritting my teeth and inhaling in places! Incredible to see ordinary road cars side by side on that circuit. It feels tight when you have 2 bikes side by side around there, let alone 2 full size road cars!
It felt just like that in the car, maybe even more so!
that was such close racing i forgot this was a crash vid. i lived that with you, surprised. unlucky i thought you were going to save your mr2 from damage when you J turned left hand down. hindsight is 2020 i guess no turn at all after straightening may have done it.
Wow, that was some proper head to head racing! Care to share some details on your car? Motor/Drivetrain mods? Glad to hear the car recovered fine!
That's some real nice quality for a 2009 video. Sick driving
Great vid and love the camera setup with the extra mirror! Unlucky you hit the tyres...
this is some intense racing. i thought miata spec racing was competitive. but trying to pass that baby blue in front of you is a challenge cause u both have turbos and its sooo damn narrow. lots of ass bumping going on here.
Yes the MR2 Championship in the UK is very competitive and close, no turbos however only stock NA engines allowed.
***** just curious, why are turbos banned?
There just isn't a class for Turbo's in that Championship. However I now race a mk2 turbo in both the Nippon Challenge and in the Roadsports series with a reasonable amount of success against other makes and marks.
I love the stock turbos and 3sgte swaps, but. sadly when I was going to buy one couldnt find a single mechanic in nywho wanted to work on one do a thermostat, or hose from hell. head gasket one forum said his mechanic did the head gasket so wrong with outdated gasket he later had antifreese and water in pistons!
In the UK Rogue are the MR2 experts, they have built and maintained all my racing MR2's. They are the best there is IMO.
Great driving out there, this is about how good i race on good-old Gran Turismo 5, braking lines and acceleration points are perfect!
Around the end there i could see what you saw, felt like the rear got stuck on the curb and slid out from the lost traction.
Very good driving bro! Sorry for the crash.
The craziest racing I've ever seen! Great stuff!
That was bloody amazing racing! I had money on the blue MR2 crashing out (I didn't read the description first). Glad you came away ok mate.
cool video bro, thank you for upload it
It’s reminds me of the Arcade Typhoon but real with that camera angle. Nice driving though!
and just when i was thinking to myself about how little passing room there is on this track...ha! still looks like a blast
What a great fun looking track, lots of undulations and tight turns. Nice close racing too.
great video and with a good audio as well, hope the damage wasn't too bad, looks like a ton of fun!
😃 that was a nice bit of intense racing! Them dudes wasn’t cutting each other slack.
@GovernmentGuy the car in the vid, the one I had at the time was exactly that, a Rev 4 N/A. the only difference is that it was striped out and had a roll cage and safety gear fitted. If you get the opportunity you should give circuit racing a go, it's a great adrenaline rush!
Holy shit this was a long time ago, but what a video! Brilliant racing, but sad watching the crash :(
I recently got a 1993 mr2 turbo. Because of the mid engine rwd layout of the car I've heard that they can have some oversteer issues. Is that what happened here? Mine has the limited slip differential also.
What kind of wheel/tire, engine, brake and suspension setups were ya'll running? I was always curious how these cars were built.
For a video uploaded in 2009, this is amazing quality tbf
brilliant racing. unfortunate about the crash but my god that was fantastic to watch from start to end!
Excellent stuff.. apart from the crash. But to be fair there wasn't anything you could do once that rear right touched the grass. Brilliant racing though!
How did you get into racing? Own car, book placement etc? Is racing as a hobby expensive?
Ah man, you almost recovered and very nice 180 degree and keeping it straight, sad you lost it at the last moment.
Getting brakechecked about 15 times, zero nudges with the bumper. A true gentleman racer.
Great driving man, I was biting my nails because I know MR2's are notorious for lift of oversteer but you handled that car like a champ
You watched too many CZcams video. Snap oversteer my arse.
That is some level of frustration. A track that is so narrow and so difficult to pass, this is end of race for him.
That was bloody awesome racing 😁
That is one great video. Nice angle, nice pic quality, nice sound quality.
You were driving very good, apart from that missed gear, and even when you spun, you did great trying to hold the car. How severe was the damage?
This is freaking great!!!! Great track and driving.
You were racing really well, it's a pity you lost a couple of positions early on. Your lines were very solid and Steve Lumley in front did quite the block on the inside at 2:16 ;(
It can be frustrating when you know you're faster and stuck behind, so you push and push and then that happens - I guess that's racing - you were right up there with the front of the pack though, I noticed when you span out. MR2s are tricky beasts to recover once they go ;(
Good racing thoughand great quality vid!
helluva race until that...thanks for sharing!
How quickly it can all end. Brilliant race though and super driving.
Wow, that was exhilarating! Sorry for the crash, but that was some excellent driving despite! Nice work
Really shows how close you get in racing! I'd still be too scared on the track at full throttle to be 3 inches bumper to bumper. Unlucky with the spin, must have been agonising waiting for an opening to get back on.
Can you tell me the exact model number of your camara. I'm anxious to buy one like it!!!
that 3rd gen was right quick. sorry for the spin, great racing!
I am glad you're okay, crash can be quite nasty at times.
Great vid! I could feel the tension in the car at wanting to get past... real shame about the crash.
Man this track is a roller coaster!
Its claimed to be the UKs Nurbergring. I was there last year and it was basically scary for the first half of the day, but an utterly beatiful track
About how fast were you going?
Did this vehicle have the 91-92 Subframe? I am blown away at this racing.. I wouldn't last 2 seconds there. LoL! Awesome!
how expensive were the damages?
What a fun track. But really difficult overtaking there. Great racing. Even on my PC game I don't drive that close, LOL.
WoW, great racing.
Man, that track is tight. It's more like a gokart track.
It's a lot of fun, but boy is it hard to overtake!
@@AnthonyDay I assume you're in UK? Ya it feels claustrophobic, especially compared to the race tracks we have here in Canada. See my channel for comparison. Mind you I'm not doing wheel-to-wheel racing just HPDEs.
name the circuit? pleace
el nombre del circuito porfavor?
Awesome video, that was a really good race and Im glad to see everyone was pushing there cars HARD. Im sorry for your accident but it could have been alot worse.
You definately had better lines then the Blue SW20 and the Spyder.
Just seen this, great driving looks really good fun.
Great driving, Anthony. If you don't run off the track occasionally, you're not trying hard enough! Hope not too much damage to the car. That track looks awesome to race on...
Some awesome close racing there... Good to hear there wasnt too much damage. I'll have to get my ass to cadwell to spectate, looks well entertaining.
what does it cost roughly for a season? looks like great fun. i have an mr2 turbo but im looking for an na to convert to track day car
Hi Tim, have a look at the MR2 Championship website - www.mr2championship.com for more details or talk to Rogue Motorsport (www.roguemotorsport.com) about building a car.
2009, good times. MR2s everywhere, not overpriced, not rusted to death
As a track virgin, can someone explain exactly what went wrong? Seems as though after swerving yo overtake the blue mid-corner he suddenly turns quite sharp left under acceleration which is why the car oversteered.. is that right?
Fantastic racing, looks epic fun
This is absolutely amazing. I want to race here in a game!!
so how do they balance the different generations? Because I don't see the newer one stomping all over the older ones.
They Roadster has less power so it has a lower minimum weight and more freedom on suspension.
wow that was great racing you were pushing seriously hard.
Beautiful racing
Excellent driving!
Awesome , what kind of differential is in the car ? Would a different diff saved you out there that time? Did that end this car?
The regulations of the series require a standard diff, and you are right an LSD might have helped me. The damage ended my race, however the car was repaired and out racing again at the next meeting :)
Awesome drive. You have a great (albeit tight) circuit there at Cadwell. That's what we need here in NZ. The guy in the blue car spoils your lines and speed. It is indeed hard to be patient in such circumstances.
That looks like so much fun! - the racing not the crashing. I used to have a 1991 MR2 NA JDM and I must admit that I span it a couple of times in the wet, so that P.O.V. spin was a rather familiar sight. .
Are these cars all N/As? Or a mixture or turbos and N/As?
This genuinely doesn't even look bad for 2009
great racing, looks like your back wheel just hit the dirt for a sec, gl in future!
Amazing racing! It's great how the cars move about so much - it looks like they're not under-powered and that they've got to be 'driven'.
Surely spares must be getting harder to get hold of? Ha, I'm assuming there's still a healthy championship in existence!
There is still a very healthy MR2 Championship running. It is managed by Rogue Motorsport who are able to source any spares necessary.
I'm over here feeling like I'm playing Gran Turismo!! Great action. And I feel it's frustration..
It taught me a lesson, not to be too eager to get past, better to pick the right place and time. In reality I was unlikely to ever get past at the bottom of the mountain.
Wow that's intense! I wanna see more videos like this.
lt's so hopelessly closely matched, like an impatient procession.
I think that pretty neatly sums it up!
