My name's Matt Urch and I own and run Urchfab welding and fabrication.
I specialise in custom automotive fabrication from building roll cages to complete one off builds. I built the worlds most unique and oldest drift car known as 'The Drift Rod' which can be found on my channel.
So if you're into grinding, welding, fabricating, etc, you're in the right place!
Matt, I always think back to when you were so frustrated filling all the rust holes, how you struggled and how you worked through everything, seriously well done. You’ve coupled that with taking us along as you actually enjoy using it, it’s very cool to see and to take part in from our homes!
Great job brother, a brilliant effort in every respect!
Cheers mate, yes it was a bit of a slog.
your among the best bubby the build touched me for real
My word that thing takes the bends so well and just seems to pull out of the corners with real guts! Looks like it’s great fun to drive. Fantastic credit to you Matt.
Thanks
It should do, its an all out race car with no interior and weighs nothing. LOL
Nice track, superb build!
A bloody beautiful car you built, mate. An absolute gem that you can play with. Awesomeness. Only thing I would've done is add a turbo for a bit more phooaaaarww when you want to Knight Rider the M3s etc😁
Much respect from 🇿🇦
You created a beast of a car with the Mongrel. A real old school racer.
Matt, your cars are proper Artisan pieces of art....but,BUT!!!!! When you take them on track, they are 1st class bloody flying machines!!!!
Big salute to you Matt, thanks for sharing your skills on here.
And man you can drive too!!!
Thanks
Nice driving Matt. The Mongrel sticks like glue to the track, very good cornering. The M3 out accelerates you on the straights and so it should because it has a huge engine by comparison, but you can out-stick him in the corners. Ditto for the Yaris. because of its turbo. Nothing to be ashamed of there mate, that's for sure!
I'm thinking there was a license plate on the back of the Yaris? For an MOT compliant car that thing was pretty quick! Matt is shaping up to fully make the Mongrel fly! FR
Yeah, they say that the Yaris GR is the new Lancia Delta Integrale :)
Wow, thanks for that. My first car was a ford pop like this but with a three speed and a side valve. It was a 1952 and I was 11. we chopped it about a bit too. loved that old car.
Watched every episode of Mongel build...would love to have it on Xbox Forza...great job !
Talented- Metal master- patient & polite..wow..you set a mighty high bar 🎈
Christ! Them old side-valves are faster than I remember. Recon he's got a special air filter or something.
You are as good in driving as you are in mechanics ! Respect !
Loving this Matt, felt like in car footage of old school touring car racing! Nice to see you enjoying the fruits of your labour too!💪🏻
The fact that you have the cornerspeed to keep up with those two is an outrage - well driven and what a fantastic machine :)
Yes, it's great to see you out on the track after all the work you put into the Mongrel
that took me back to the 70s and racing my sidecar at Cadwell, you did a great job building the car
Top job on the car, and a top gun behind the wheel...wowsers...😳
Dude, that's a kickass little ride! We saw how you put her together, on another level man!!! Great job!!!
Great choice of track - I love Cadwell, had many a race there. Usually ended up in the scenery or on fire, but such a gorgeous circuit. 6:17 - next job, make a Ferrari-style gate for the gear stick 😁👍
Great car and really good cornering. Thanksmatt from Grmany. 👋
That’s a very nice looking track. I was having a days of thunder flashback when you came up on all that white smoke!!
After watching your highs and lows of the whole mongrel build, it’s fantastic to see a first class end product, much respect to you. Great driving too 👍👍👍
Cheers Darren
Wicked I love the sound of it on song. Fair trek out for a track day only ever watched BSB but looks awesome in a car 👍 top job Matt
Bravo Urch, what a drive sticks like velcro in the corners and passes like the wind!
Love Cadwell Park, went around it a few times on a trip to the UK from Australia. I always tell people back here what an absolute awesome track it is.
Brilliant Matt.
I've just binged the whole Playlist, All 97 videos at the last count. You certainly have some great engineering skills and your perseverance in the face of adversity is admirable.
Things we have in common: I had a 100E in the '60s; I worked at Cadwell Park on several occasions in the '70s; I was a centre lathe turner on a lathe identical to yours in the '90s.
Keep the videos coming. They're very informative.
Glad to see you out and running so well after your restoration and fabrication. It looks, sounds and runs and handles well.
Flying mushy pea, certainly keep up with those two in the twisties, just their extra grunt to pull away on the straights. Good to see you having fun with it.👍
true BUT if those are the daily drivers of the owners, you dont know if theyre pushing to the limit or not, plus theres also the fact that the mushy pea is set up solely for track use (suspension etc) whereas those 'dailies' are probably set up as they left the factory.
@@petelattimer6808 Not only that but the mushy pea must have a better power to weight ratio than the other vehicles. The lightness of the vehicle certainly must help in the corners. The real test would be against other similar track orientated machinery in a Clubman's race.
Looks like mushy pea could do with a couple more horses as that M3 just has the legs on him.
@@billgaytes6845 The mongrel ought to have a similar power to weight ration as the M3 but being lighter will be more nimble through the bends especially as it has MX5 underpinnings and should be more torsionally stiff with the roll cage that should assist the handling. Maybe its the human interfaces that are different?
Such a great project, quick and well balanced and beautifully built. All round just dead impressive. I hope you really enjoy it.
My favorite track. Thanks for the reminiscences!!
Una puesta en marcha sobre la pista genial, a quedado niquelado, un abrazo compañero desde la Comarca de la Verá.
...my man...that Yellow BMW was hellfire.
I have been watching this bad ass little car since you started building it. Love the way it turned out great job.
You find a good line most of the time and your breaking isn't too bad, well done that man.
What a great car, you did a great job building it .
You need to make it a killer car. Put in a Mazda Rotary engine, Lighte, enormous power for such a tiny motor,
pulling 10,000 Rpm no problem. You'll scare everybody.
Congratulations mate, JOB WELL DONE.
Mushy pea is a weapon! Specially with Matt Sena on board! 😉Great stuff mate 👍🏼
Mushy pea rules!
Sooo good to watch The Mushy Pea in action.. all those hours of effort .. brilliant to watch and it has been a really enjoyable journey.. I wear the T with pride !!
Cheers Mark
Matt all that hard work has paid off glad you are getting to enjoy it great job.
Fantastic little Beast of a motor 👍
Wow! What a tricky circuit. The little Mongrel is on rails. Great driving. Must have been loads of fun. 😊✔👍
Oldish petrolhead says 'more rorty engine sound, no blibble blibble music please". Or am I just being grumpy. Love the car to pieces
I put a lotus Cortina engine matched with an escort box in one of those, with Cortina 315 front struts to give me the disks and an escort rear end. Man, that car could fly. Good to see you are having fun.
Mate! It's great to see you putting your hard work to the test 👍
Legendary track, lucky boy!
1. this guy definitely knows what he's doing.
2. what an amazing track!
I owned one of these with a side valve engine in it. Yours is much quicker. lol Enjoyed riding along with you.
Now that was ace.. Awesome driving too. My Dad raced hill climbing back in the 70's ,driving a red 60-61 Ford Anglia with a super charger, Harewood mostly and some over sea too. keep up the great racing...
Looks like a great day. I had a bit of an off there in 2003 - still can't remember it. Great circuit - the mini Nürburgring...
Ahh... the sweet song of the Mongrel!
Bit of a handful on cold tyres though ;)
OMG .. All the hard work, sweat, tears, frustration, dedication and skill was worth it !! That looks like so much fun !!! WTG !!
Looking pretty well sorted and predictable. Thankyou for the ride along, very enjoyable.
That looks like a fun circuit!
Pretty decent lap time my good man 💪 wee bit more power and them inclines will be a doddle👍 thanks for sharing the video of Your time at cadwell 🙏
Thanks 👍
Spent many a happy hour at Cadwell, less tan 10 minutes from my house, great video!!
As much as I love the the E46 M3 I was saying, "Go on the 100E!" Also, if you play Eurobeat down the inlet manifold it adds 100hp across the rev range. FACTS.
Great stuff Matt, that gnarly Cadwell track (where I usually watch bike racing) was the perfect home for the mongrel....So much faster around the Mountain and Hairpin areas than anyone else!... Thought that bloody Toyota was never going to get out of the way!! 😄👌
Wow! I remember when the mongrel was a pile of parts and a rusty body. 👍
This track terrifies me. 20 years ago I'd would have gone for it, but these days I'm going to have to insist on a a bit more track and a whole lot more of a run off..!! Tidy driving, fella, tidy driving...
Looks like you’re having a blast. Good for you man 👊
The video that gotn me watching the whole build. Many thanks, Matt, you've cheered me up through my last doses of chemo.
Good to hear Michael, hope you're feeling better.
@@Urchfab Thank you. Are there any vids on theb bobber.
Loved Caldwell when I went. Extra special in a car you built. Well done!!
Good performance bro ...u are the best 👍👍😅...i from Malaysia 🇲🇾
My 1937 250cc single cylinder Velocette Vintage racing motorcycle, was lapping Cadwell Park full circuit in 1min 48sec to 1min 49sec, 30 plus years ago; same circuit layout, exactly. The best Mike Hailwood could do with the 250cc Honda six cylinder GP racer, was 1min 47sec, 50 plus years ago.
Que gran trabajo , me gusto mucho la manera de reparar el auto , excelente trabajo de carrocería y adaptación del chasis, buen tiempo en tu vuelta , saludos desde México
8:10 Lap doesn't need music. The engine is all the soundtrack we need!
Terrific driving skills on a fantastic circuit. Well done.
Impressive for something built in your workshop as held its own against M3 and The Yarris
Nice tidy lap Matt. Well done :) Suits the Mongrel perfectly.
When I was 16/17 my 'home' every weekend, as I lived at Ulceby 10 miles away. Where my love of F1 Stock Cars was born. I have driven the whole track, but not in 1 go, and mainly in my road car.
Awesome! great lap and great build. I wish I found your channel ealier! Greetings from Paris, France
What a cracking wee bus, Love it mate
fabuloso ,man and machine in perfect harmony . Truly awesome machine you have created .
Man, what a track...like a crossbreed of Nürburgring and a cart track...
8-0
Great driving and great car, all work and frustration pays off now!
Thx for showing!
:-D
Cheers
I dont remember my 100E Anglia being so powerful in 1964 and the windscreen wipers didn't work when I put my foot down due to loss of vacuum
Unreal. like Gran Tourismo13 with patches. Well done. Great Film.
Awesome man
Wow, driving through the smoke was like flying IFR or through IMC without instruments. Amazing driving Matt!
Perfect 👌 and a nice bit of driving there 👍
you got it flying in the corners, wow, nice job
I like the ashtray retention, an important detail.
Great vid Matt. Keep up the good work!
Looks and sounds fantastic.
Onboard camera shots top notch...😎❤️
Fanbloodytastic Yaris surrendered before he bent a very expensive motor sensible move let the faster man past ,great Matt very enjoyable 👍👨🏻🏭
Impressive, you've done an excellent job.
Thanks
Brilliant driving skills and mongrel is a killer on the bends. Above average day out.
Raced a Kart there in 1968, did a track day there on Yamaha
FZr400 in 1996 or so. Scary circuit, so narrow, prefer Mallory or Brands.
MX5s have a great chassis and handling. Mine can keep up with a lot of high powered cars around the bends at knockhill but like the mongrel lacks the power and straight line speed. Adding a turbo made a huge difference and the car is probably more capable than my driving skills
Fantastic driver skills and also great footage. My old man used to race Cadwell park regularly on bikes. Still, if you're in a car or on a bike, it's the same skills. Fair credit to all featured :) Ok, so I just watched the whole video....that last lap when he had an open run....phewwww! Man and machine in harmony. I'm going to ask my dad what his fastest lap was....will post ^^
That was brilliant to watch. Great driving skills keeping the mushy pea on song like that. 👍
What a lovely car the mungrel is I would love to own her. You should be really proud of the work you have done on her especially considering the state she was in when you first got her and I think you got it spot on with the mods you have done on her it's not to over the top she's a really cool looking girl and the sound she makes is the icing on a super looking cake .I be proud to own her she definitely my not out of the 3 cars you have at the moment. I wonder what the next one will be. Anyway thanks for another great video. 👍👍👍
Sound is very nice
Very nice driving Matt.
Nice, the mongrel will pass everything but a kidney stone if you give it more power. Bet in its current set up it would do a 1000 laps like that without missing a beat though.
That’s what I like about it. Reliable fun
What a terrific little race car and driven like it should be! Great vid mate
Love the ashtray.
Yes a credit to you job well done !!
From Serious Stages to serious racer. Well done Matt.
Cheers mate
@@Urchfab do you know who it is Matt?
Great stuff... I bet you loved that👍🇬🇧
I did
A top job , it performs very well
Hat's off to you mate, you built that rusty old car, and now racing it and having fun,Well Done.
Cheers Pete
that looks like more fun than a person should be allowed to have LOL thanks for the videos
