Deep in the backroads of Massachusetts' centermost town sits a completely abandoned and derelict white house, suffering from many years of neglect, all while dozens of well-maintained modern-day houses prosper around it. This mysterious abandoned house sits in the town of Rutland, which just so happens to be the geographical center of Massachusetts. While suburban communities make up much of the neighborhood this house is located in, this house truly stands out in terms of appearances; the white paint out front is peeling away, the windows are boarded up, and the yard is an unmaintained mess of brush and vines. This house sits upon a narrow road that transitions from spotty pavement to dirt, signaling its rather rustic location. However, it is what is on the inside that makes this seemingly dismissible house stand out.
While mostly gutted and empty, lacking much furniture or belongings, this abandoned house holds a myriad of unique trinkets--and most of these interesting remnants date back between the 1950s and 1970s! While exploring this house, I discovered a vinyl record from 1975, an auto repair manual from 1961, and a magazine from 1954, among other fascinating artifacts! Unlike most other abandoned houses I have explored on this channel, this house had numerous remnants of the mid-20th century, which I absolutely loved to discover. However, I must admit that something about this house left me feeling rather uneasy... it was a particularly unsettling and creepy house to explore, although I could not quite put my finger on why. Still, this was a fun one to check out! And MAJOR thank you to the kind viewer of the channel who submitted this location to me for this exploration: it is much appreciated! If you guys liked this video, make sure to stay tuned for more exploration videos all across New England!

Squatters have got to be my biggest urbex fear even if they’re scared of you too, never encountered one personally and you were lucky this one wasn’t home based on that OJ box. Cool house too!
I’ve somehow been extremely lucky and have never come across any squatters, but I’ve had very close calls! This was definitely one of them… who knows how long ago that guy was in that house! Spooky stuff!
Hey J-MASS.....Your abandon house is a Greek Revival style house... MY guess would that it was built about 1860 or so... Thank you for the tour of this old house! I have been through Rutland many times... n my way to one my favorite flea mkts. A shame the Rutland VA hospital is gone..it would have been an awesome explore... Keep healthy and safe in your explores!
Thanks so much man! That’s interesting to hear; I was curious what style of architecture this was! 1860 definitely sounds feasible!
Creepy and eerie are understatements here lol, but great video quality, walk through and narrative work. You quickly became my favorite new England explorer here. Fact!!
Thank you so much man, I really appreciate the kind words!
Probably built in the early 1900s. The slats in the walls - don’t see that in newer construction. Plus the bannister and woodwork, definitely older, still standing, good quality construction relatively speaking. Be careful in such places - weak floors, rusty nails, critters, maybe even discarded needles. Any hazard could be right in your midst.
Looks like it could possibly be one of the Sears kit homes.
They were available from the early to mid 1900's. Roughly.
Very similar to our family's home growing up, in Monument Beach.
I would even say late 1800's. I lived in a 1852 old farm house that looks like this one inside. The inner walls, doors, windows. Yes, very old.
Great video as always Jacob! I might visit this location and set up some IR cameras to see if there is anything. The place looks OLD as hell!!!
Bro you definitely should! This place was hella old, and I almost wonder if that loud door closing at 10:49 was something else going on… 😂
Why did someone say 2016????
Rutland, my father used to live there. I reside in a town nearby. Very interesting abandoned house!
That’s awesome! Rutland is a cool little town, and this house was an interesting one to explore!
reminds of the way the my parents house looked when we first moved into it north of Boston and it was built in 1900.
Very old house, judging by the lathe work behind you in the opening shot. Also the front door with the 3 angled windows was quite popular in the late 50's-early 60's. Given the age (mid-late 1800's), I'm sure it was a farmhouse. If you look hard enough at town records you'll find a lot.
Very interesting
Agreed, it was fascinating!
This is everywhere in Maine
Funny
I bet the super rural parts of upstate Maine are filled with these, would love to explore them someday!
@@j-mass more like 15 minutes outside of any city
@@j-mass sure hmu I know a ton of spots
So they were drinking wine 🍷 and Jammin 😂😂😂
I grew up in a house built in the early 1900's. I'd definitely say that's when that one was built. You can tell by the windows and the slats in the walls. It's sad when this happens to houses.
Looks like a cool spot
It truly was a fascinating spot to explore!
the foundation, wow,,,, looks like 1800's to me. 70's to 80's is my guess
You going to do a video on new England’s Stonehenge at some point?
I hadn’t thought of that, but that’s a good idea! It’s been many years since I last went there, so I’d love to re-explore it again on film!
@@j-massthank you for Replying and I just found your channel through the wonder of the CZcams algorithm partly due to your video on the hoosac tunnel appearing in my recommendations and I was watching a different video on the tunnel from a railway CZcamsr and I’m glad to see more of New England and Massachusetts.
HI J-MASS So your in new england and i am in old england and a place like that in the uk would be done up and sold. Peace from Wolverhampton England
Greetings to Old England, from here in New England! Yeah, it’s surprising that this place is still standing! Usually places like these are demolished here in the US.
i live right down the road
WOW THAT LOOKS LIKE A MYSTERIOUS ABANDONED HOUSE
J-Mass from the holes I saw in the walls looks like its balloon framed with lath with horse hair plaster
Most likely built early 1900's
You did everything righr except going on that attic floor. People hurt their back and live with severe pain every minute for the rest of their life so be careful. Think about that when your bored and ponder it. Lots of pain. Every minute for 50 years. You don't want that.
Atleast the windows look ok 😮
Looks like someone was cleaning it out. If it has been abandoned a long time it would usually be all messed up and tagged. It looks pretty clean.
Agreed, and all the brooms I found inside probably hint to someone sweeping the floors and tidying up.
I think someone attempted demolition in 2016 and abandoned the project
Why don’t you go to the Registry of Deeds-town hall- Rutland Mass.?
Not a bad idea, that could work!
Ooooh hoooooooose😅😅😅😅
Get me that coin 😢😢😢😢
WOW I CANT BELIEVE THEY ABANDONED THE WALLPAPER AS WELL I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT WITH ME.
That house most likely built in 1916, not 2016
Absolutely agree! Whoever wrote “2016” online was definitely wrong, haha
When you go to places do you need permission? I love urban exploration but i would be so scared to get caught
In short, it depends on the location. Some spots, while abandoned, are under ownership or property management, and in those cases, it’s best to ask. Some abandoned spots are expressly open to the public, and anyone can access them. In the case of this house, my research informed me that literally nobody owns it, meaning it’s a completely abandoned house under no direct jurisdiction. I’d definitely recommend online research beforehand!
@@j-mass thank you for the info!!
The moment I found an unexpired carton of juice I would be outta there.
LOL my heart started pumping so damn fast when I saw that, I was like “wait, am I not alone in here???”
Omg I got a hot location for you in Jefferson MA!! My son who is on the spectrum musta had a past life in this one. It is worth a look. How to contact you?
That’s awesome! Feel free to DM me on Instagram, @jmassofficial, and I’ll definitely check it out sometime!
I’m sorry did you say 2016!??? It looks more like 1916 I wonder if it was built by the person who lived in it then just completely abandoned a few months later. Ok I commented that earlier in the video and I think I’m completely wrong. Anyways, for your next video can you explore a cemetery?
Yeah, I definitely don’t think the 2016 date is accurate, especially considering what I later found inside lol… I think the real estate sources I used were incorrect. This house definitely dates back to the early-to-mid 1900s.
Hooooooouse😂😂😂😂
Are you gonna explore an abandoned school soon?
Probably not unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with any abandoned schools that are currently accessible. Maybe someday in the future if an opportunity opens up!
@@j-mass what’s the next location I know you said it but I totally forgot
Bro is in the Blair Witch house
😂😂
House 😂😂😂
Typo online. Most likely 1916. Maybe ABANDONED in 2016.
I think you’re right, there’s no way this was built in 2016… definitely an error there.
THERE WAS A MURDER IN THAT HOUSE IT WAS A BARBER AND HIS GHOST IS THEIR..BUT WILL FOLLOW YOU HOME AND GIVE YOU A MUCH NEEDED HAIRCUT
🤣
I love how dopey this generation of kids is. Even in a fairly wealthy place like Rutland a kid doesn't know how to pronounce the word DARE-a-lict.
