    Thanks for this content. My first handgun I recently purchased was a Shield 1.0 which I loved, until.....the striker problem after 4 rounds. Chalk it up to being manufactured on a Friday. While back at S&W (4 weeks, not bad) , I put 300 rounds or so thru my buddies OG Shield and shot the hell out of it. Very accurate. Impatiently waiting, I bought the M&P Shield Plus and holy crap what a difference. Better grip texture, better capacity, better trigger. As a novice shooter, the difference was very clear. That said, I never shot or reviewed the Shield 2.0, so thank you for this comparison!

      question
      I used to own the shield a few years ago, and even with the extended magazine, my pinky was not all the way on the grip.
      so my question is, on the new shield plus, it looks like the undercut is slightly more exaggerated, allowing for a full grip with the extended magazine. Since my hands are large, will my pinky be totally on the grip due to the undercut being a bit more exaggerated?

    Great video, it definitely helped me make my decision. I thought the only difference was the mag capacity, I didn't notice the trigger difference on the web. I definitely prefer the flat style over the hinge. I still might swap for an Apex like my .40c but this will work until after the holidays 😁.

    Besides the capacity advantage of the Plus the 2.0 is a better gun. It has a significantly better trigger, (shoot them back to back and then tell me I'm wrong!), It's way more responsive, faster and provides more feeback. The aggressive stipling on the 2.0 also puts it over the top of any super compact when it comes controlling recoil, it's never gonna slip no matter how gunky your hands are!
    The Plus is a great gun but the 2.0 is the tool that will always deliver.

  • @genepotter
    @genepotter Před rokem +1

    Just bought a plus. Actually like my 2.0 better. Safety on the plus is ridiculously stiff and so is the magazine. Flat faced trigger is nice- but no discernible reset. Trigger pull feels the same. 12 rounds is all I could stuff in the 13 round mag. And you have to force the mag in the gun for it to lock. The only thing I like about the plus is the slightly wider grip. In hindsight- I wish I had left it in the store.

    Hard to beat the Shield at $350 (and cheaper on the used market). If you're looking for a tiny gun for conceal carry, fhe Shield 2.0 will do the job with a proven track record. If thinner is better (otherwise why not carry a G26 that will accept factory 15, 17, 24 and 33 round mags) then the Shield M2.0 is better. Also lighter with fewer rounds in it, and more reliable (put a fully loaded 13 shot mag in a Shield Plus with a loaded chamber and it will likely suffer a stoppage when fired).

      I don’t know if it would be worth it even if that trigger were interchangeable. I believe Apex tactical offers an upgrade. The trigger pull weight/ reset are indistinguishable between the 2.0 & plus. Just a different design which boils down to aesthetics. They both work- well.

    In CA, you can only get the MP Shield 1.0.. The M&P Shield 2.0 isn’t on the “Safe Handgun Roster” and will never be added due to all the requirements being added. “Micro stamping”, 3 models removed for every 1 added, etc..
    So please don’t stop making the 1.0. There are really only 3-5 decent compact 9mm’s left on the roster now. The Glock 26, the Shield 1.0, the XD, Kahr and I believe the CZ Rami are the only ones left at this point.

    Prefer the M&P 40 Shield M2.0 (6 round mag) as the .40 S&W round has better stopping power than 9mm. If you only had time to fire one shot to save your life or the life of a loved one would you rather your pistol was .40 S&W or 9mm? Better yet, get a G27 that has a 9 round mag and accepts factory 13, 15, 22 and 29 round mags.

    I'm going to be the one to say it...Shield 1.0 I like the grip texture better, it does not eat into my tactical muffin top.
    We seem to have entered the realm of 2-round-itis. Similar to the boaters "2-foot-itis". If we accept a handgun that is just a little heavier, just a little bigger, we get two extra rounds. If I accept a handgun that is just a little bit heavier than that, just a little, I get another two rounds. (S&W M&P Sub compact) Bear in mind that the main reason for these competing micro compacts is to...sell guns. According to the background check data, that has been very successful.
    I have a S&W 3914 DAO (8+1) and a Shield 1.0 (8 +1) and a S&W Model 6904 (12+1) and a SIG P228 (13 +1) I haven't been tempted yet to by a gun that is just a little bit bigger, or smaller, for 10+1. I have carried a handgun for 48 years as a police officer and retired police officer. An additional 2 rounds is practical if you otherwise have a single shot pistol or a 2 shot pistol. Going from 1 or 2 rounds to 3 or 4 is a big difference. Going from a capacity of 9 to 11...for personal self defense...is of much more dubious value.
    That said...if I were new to the market and already had my "always be armed" handgun and was looking for an EDC, I would lean toward the Shield Plus.
