If you don’t already own a Shield the new one is a major go.
Disagree. The original lacks grip texturing, the trigger sucks and it’s outdated in capacity compared to today’s offerings. However, it’s reliable and that’s huge.
Every firearm is overpriced and they’re getting worse! Sad times!
Can I fit shield plus magazines into my original shield 1.0?
@@jeremysoto4544 No, not compatible.
What if you have a original shield with an apex trigger a stipple grip night sights and mag guts that give you 3 to 4 extra rounds per mag. Should I upgrade to a plus?
The excessive travel of your trigger finger while shooting the original shield speaks volumes about the confidence or lack thereof one can have in the reset.
Had the OG shield since 2012 been carrying it ever since. 3000 rounds in over the years 5 jams 1 stove pipe. Only Upgrades or add one Trijicon Day and night sights and an Apex N trigger with 3.4 pound trigger pull and what they call a true reset and a Shrog Grip. Backup carry the DB9 Diamondback. They both serve their purpose. Hope to get another 12 years out of the shield. Amazing gun and a true workhorse that keeps on working and kicking. Super awesome video.
I picked one up yesterday. I immediately went and put some rounds through it. I have always liked the shield and the M&P 2.0 line of pistols. This gun checks off so many boxes...I like it alot.
Im just wondering if the trigger matches the apex trigger kit 🤔.
@@shenmue5507 I don't know. I don't have any experience with the apex trigger. I do experience with Canik triggers. It is not as nice as those, but still an improvement over the 2.0 trigger...which was already decent to me.
@@ParsonBrown78 I put the apex trigger kit in my shield 1.0 and it honestly feels perfect. Im guessing the shield plus trigger will be slightly worse than the apex but still good.
I was wondering about the comparison with the apex trigger too. I suspect they are similar. I personally just prefer the apex style trigger over the hinge trigger on older shield’s.
@@brianblack546 I guess we won't know until we buy one. If I had to put my money on it I bet it's a little worse than the apex. It's probably a little heavier and a little gritty but I could be wrong. When it comes to oem triggers each one is a little different. I might get one that's a little gritty and you might get one that's completely smooth. It varies from gun to gun. Im still going to buy one though.
I just bought one this afternoon. After 200 rounds I'm impressed. You're right about the cerakote on the frame. I don't like it either.
one of the most honest informative channels...
What a review Hegshot. Thank you for the detailed comparison. Guess it's time to upgrade to the Plus
I just picked up a Shield Plus today and it has an entirely matte finish. Doesn't appear Cerakote was used on it. My first Shield and I'm super impressed.
Didnt hear you mention that the plus grip is just a hair over 10% wider. Cant hardly see it but it is part of what makes it better. Adding talon grip to the original will help get that feel and help on the texture. Biggest pet peeve on the original is the texturing under the finger guard wears on my middle finger fast. It might depend on hands but Im thinking about sanding that part down. TY for the review.
The only thing I don’t like is the new finish on the frame. Otherwise this new one is perfect. Everything has been upgraded. Looking forward to getting one
Yeah they must have been smoking crack when they thought of coating the frame. Obviously it's going to come off 🤦♂️.
Maybe a little matte clearcoat? Or some 000 steel wool....
@@shenmue5507 I was thinking the same thing when I heard about it.
Use 000 steel wool to dull it down, then 0000 to finish it.
@@D70340 I mean, this is a concealed carry piece, not a prized possession. I vote leave it alone.
I skipped upgrading from my OG Shield when the 2.0s came out, but I'm definitely intrigued by the new offering, especially that new trigger.
Buying the 2.0 would have been stupid because the apex trigger kit is better than the trigger in the 2.0... There was never a good reason to upgrade until now. It's just kind of disappointing that the regular shield plus doesn't come with an optic cut. Im personally going to wait until winter because im not going to pay extra for this thing. It doesn't have night sights like the competition so anything over $450 would be ridiculous.
@@shenmue5507 I’m still happy with my original shield with apex sights and night sights. It’s a great pistol to fight too a rifle. I’ve considered a red dot on my pistols but I’m concerned about fogging going from cars and homes to outdoors when truly needed. Can i shoot better with a red dot? Yes. Will it be fogged when I need it? Probably. Night sights fighting to a AR if stuff goes real bad.
Held one at the store yesterday. Trying to resist the urge to go back and buy it. Fantastic piece. Gives you exactly that little bit extra all Shield carriers have wanted.
You know you want it.
I don’t need the help, man! This stimulus is burning a hole in my pocket! Lol
Great Video, thanks!
Think I'm gonna have to get one. I love my Shield 40 Performance Center except for the porting. Yeah, it looks cool in low light and it does help with muzzle climb... but not enough to outweigh the damage to my night vision.
I live & work in an Uber liberal college town, so concealability is primary. And the Shield is great for that. But getting extra rounds PLUS a PC-like trigger in the same size package?... Winning!
Totally agree. If you are looking for a first carry gun, have a Shield or Shield 2.0, and are thinking about the Plus, stop thinking and buy the Plus!!! Amazing daily carry. Grip texture, trigger, and capacity make it a no-brainer!
Thanks H. Great job. Good info.
Nice review! I got the original Shield about 6 months ago, also wasn't crazy about the grip so put a Talon grip on it, which feels great. But now thinking about upgrading since the Plus looks pretty sweet, especially with a 13rd mag. Does S&W usually raise or lower their price on a gun after it comes out? $549 seems a little high for guns in that class.
Just picked up a shield plus as my first handgun and got 200 rounds into it already, super solid gun and easy to learn on. No jams on winchester range rounds
I purchased my M&P Shield Plus yesterday (about 4 hours before you posted this video) and it came with a 10-round magazine and a 13-round magazine.
Same here.
I have the original shield, and just recently purchased the Shield Plus. All your points are valid, but there is one thing (which is actually a couple things really)... the gun is so new that you can’t even purchase extra magazines from Smith & Wesson. In fact, when I spoke to their customer service, that’s exactly what they pointed out, that it was just released. The other thing is that the magazine plates with the pinky extensions do not fit on the new 10 round magazine. You get two magazines with the Shield Plus, a 10 and a 13 rounder, but you cannot get more yet. Typically, I don’t carry extra magazines, but I do like having 6 to 8 for purposes of going to the range (or the Apocalypse, should that occur).
The shield FDE was my favorite color wave on the shield. Haven’t seen any in the plus yet. Hope they do it.
For 25 (correction $35) bucks I have a 9+1 Sheild...its called mag guts
Weight difference? Is the plus grip any thicker? Is racking any easier or harder? Is the safety switch any easier to engage (taller like the mag release)?
Just got the original sheild. I think is pretty nice. It's definitely is more comfortable to carry then my ACP. What a relief. 👍
I love how flush the magazines sit on the s&w line pistols unlike glocks the magazine stick out like a sore thumb. Just looks odd.
I own an original shield, great little gun but now im tempted to upgrade just to have them 5 extra rounds.
I have a S&W Shield 9mm and replace the Henge Trigger with a Hyve Monarch Trigger (flat face). A very real improvement. I now also have a S&W 9mm Shield Plus.. With the new Trigger the Shield shoots as good as my Shield Plus. I am keeping Both.
I like how this gun looks, nice presentation.
I agree on the cerakote. Wish the lower wasn’t coated. Don’t like the shiny look. Plus, I’m sure it’ll wear relatively quickly with carry.
I love my old original .45 shield amazing gun the magazine not so much but still good for self defense
just picked up my shield plus this morning. This is the pistol I have been waiting for. I liked the p365 and the hellcat but always wanted the shield again only with larger round capacity. Now we have it!! This thing is conceal carry perfection!
Yeah the p365 grip is way too small and it feels like a toy gun. I regret buying it.
Picked up a shield plus today and wanted to see how it compared to the older one as I have shot the shield 1.0 alot back in the day.
Thanks for the great comparison!
Also as others have said, my shield plus as well didn't come gloss like yours. It was Matte black like the shield 1.0 in this vid
These companies need to start upping their Mag games to Taurus Levels, G3C TORO comes with 3, 12 round mags and a light rail.
Yes, but a shield is infinitely better. I've owed multiple of each.
It would be nice, but s&w has no incentive to. They sell like hotcakes as is. They know people will happily pay the $47 for backup mags.
Smith and wesson m&p 2.0 compact in 40 cal has a 13 round mag. No reason they can't do that in the shield in 9mm in my opinion. I'm not much of a fan of the shield. I see the appeal though. Definitely would choose it over any taurus even with the low capacity. Never had a taurus without problems. Even my old hipoint I got second hand runs better than any taurus I have handled including revolvers. Heard some good things about the G2 and G3. Hopefully they have gotten better. I always want the best for any manufacturer that makes an affordable firearm as long as they are reliable.
@@graymann7762 absolutely a superior firearm. I don't love the shield but they run great and shoot straight. Can't argue that.
@@little2826 the shield is WAY smaller than a compact.
@Hegshot87 I currently have the regular shield. What trigger would you suggest swapping out for the stock Shield trigger? Is it possible to use Shield Plus trigger in the regular shield?
I wonder how racking the slide differs from the original to the Plus. I didn't buy the EZ since that was the only difference really, with arthritis in my thumbs the slide is hard for me, curious if this is any easier...
How do you do a gun review and not pull the magazine out?
Does anyone know if an og shield slide assembly and barrel will work on a shield plus lower?
Just bought it on March 20th.
Trigger is fantastic. Better than the 2.0
And I FRIGGING LOVE the M&P LINE.
PERFECT FIREARMS.
I'm not sure why the body of yours is so shiny, but I'm happy to report that I purchased one this morning and the one that I got added a matte finish. It looks very nice
looks good. i might get one soon if i can find it locally with a manual safety
Can you use shield slide on a plus?
Thanks for the info. Gonna go to the range & test out the OG
S&W joined the late ‘80’s with their trigger. AWESOME!!!!
The review on TTAG says it's a better trigger than their Sig P365 or their Hellcat with an upgraded trigger. They gave the gun 5/5
I want that trigger for my compact optics ready
question for guys with extra large hands.
on the original shield, with the extended magazine in, my pinky was still half on half off.
on the shield plus, with the extended magazine on, will my pinky be fully on?
Will the slide/barrel from the original shield work on the new shield plus frame?
Loved the video going to purchase one asap...
Are the shield slides of 1.0, 2.0, plus interchangeable?
S&W Should've leaked the Shield plus out months ago... I wouldn't have got a Hellcat
Now you will have two!
This is America, you can have both! 😉
Nothing exceeds like excess!
I got an original a month before
@@lewciferlovesyou I think a lot depends on which grip you like.
My buddy prefers the Hellcats.
My brother prefers the shields. I happen to prefer the shield as well.
We need a full micro compact lineup comparison. Love the content keep it comin!
Agreed, full micro comparison and shoot off to include the new Ruger Max 9!
I’m really really liking this gun. And I have the original Shield
But I’m so used to carrying my Glock 26 with a spare 15 round mag on my off hip and 33 round mag in my carry bag and two 17 round mags in my truck and two 15 round mags in my work locker.
That’s why my G26 is hard to be beat. And it’s easy to carry IMO. Little fatter ...but it doesn’t bother me at all.
This is a good size. Small enough to conceal. Big enough to grip. Perfection.
I hate how hard it is to put a loaded mag into the single stack shields on a closed slide. Did they fix that issue on the shield plus?
Do you guys know if the slides are interchangeable with the original Shield 2.0?? I have a custom Shield with optic cut. I want the extra capacity of the Plus, but I want to keep my custom slide.
I'm falling in love with The Plus!!
I'm loving what I see.. 😍🤩
I love my three shields (yes 3, and yes for good reason), but selling one to get the plus! If its as improved as it seems, I’ll have two more for sale ;)
Holding 10+1 and being the great shooter that it is, this could be an excellent do-everything pistol - car, carry, home, nightstand... If I could only have one pistol, this could be it - tho the Glock 19 hold 15+1 and doesn’t look a lot bigger... but Im a Shield fan and I still like the security (real or perceived) of a safety.
Does anyone know of the slides will interchange? I have the PC slide and would like the Shield Plus. Wouldn’t mind saving some cash in the process.
Are the slides interchangeable? I have night sites on my original shield, if the slides are interchangeable it would be a huge selling point for me.
Thanks, Hegshot~
I have the 2.0 Performance Center slide in the shield plus frame. Can't find a difference in the slide funstion or size. Works with dry fire tests. Anyone shoot it with a 2.0 slide on plus frame?
And the 13 round extended mag that comes with the Plus is a big upgrade over the 8 round extended mag from the original shield
How about a comparison between the Shield Plus & the M&P sub-compact?
@@runningbear6391 I have a sub-comp. .40 w/ 10 rds. I'd like to see a Shield + compared to this.
You failed 2 mention that the "PLUS" model comes with a 13 end mag which will not fit in previous Shields because it is wider. The PLUS has a 1/10 inch wider grip.
Just bought mine today. Got bent over backwards for it but its mine lol. I'm glad to see the Shield back in the game.
Back in the game? LOL, S&W sold more Shields than anyone else sold guns. It never left the game, it just raised the bar from a previous Shield 2.0 that was already a hit.
Just got the shield plus the thickness kind of reminds me of the shield 45 in the grip but it's the same size as the standard 9 mm shield
Sweet Deal! Just wish they added a rail and optics ready but I still plan on buying one when magguts comes out with the plus 2 capacity. 12+1 15+1
Imagine that, same capacity as a Glock 19 for it’s size.
As always, great review Hegshot. I've been patiently watching the Shield series. Now I think I'll "pull the trigger."
Have to disagree with you on the mat finish. I love the look of the Plus finish.
Do sights on the 1.0 fit the plus? Also I thought the plus had a 13 round mag?
I have a original Shield Performance Center with ported barrel will that upper slide fit on the new Shield Plus
I have a 2.0 in 40 cal but seriously thinking about getting the Plus.
The 40cal 2.0 compact was my first non revolver smith and wesson purchase and I'm pretty impressed. It definitely won't be leaving my collection.
Getting the Plus is a Must 🇺🇸🛡
I'm still hoping S&W releases a M&P in 10mm. That would be perfect.
I got mine a first gen in 2020 with the bug out kit with 4 8 round magazines abs 1 7 round magazine with a range bag
Will my trijicon HD night sights on my gen 1 shield plug and play on the shield plus?
I can't use the slide stop to release the slide on my Shield 1.0. Tooooo stiff. IDK if that's normal for this model. Is the 2.0 the same, or can the slide be release w/ the slide stop? I usu. slingshot, but like the option to use the slide stop to release the slide for a new mag. ty
I'd probably take some steel wool and gently go over that ceracoat finish to dull it up a bit
I do not own a shield but have a friend who bought the new one and offered me the original for $300 with three mags. He carried it daily but hardly shot it. Is $300 used a good price?
Hegshot, can you compare the new plus to the mp45? Dimensionally? Thank you sir.
Will the Recover Tactical rail for the original Shield fit on the Plus?
The new shield is absolutely THE new Gun to Own S&W shield 🛡
Nah
I concur. This gun checks the boxes. The shield is awesome. Dang Cali roster.
I have a Hellcat with an Apex trigger already. I ordered a shield plus with factory tritium night sights yesterday. That's right, I bought one just because I wanted it! ;o]
And after you shoot the new Shield Plus, you`ll throw that hellcat in the garbage.
How’s the size comparison between the two?
@@j0relle Can barely feel any difference but the slightly larger grip feels better and the weight is within a 10th of an ounce of each other still.
Ohhhhhhhhh your so badass just because you wanted it !!!! Wish I was that cool 🤦♂️
@@HotBrass-Lead Well I did get a moment of practicality and gifted the Hellcat to my son for his first EDC pistol. 😆
My 2.0 is already awesome with an Apex trigger kit and night sights. Wonder how the shield plus' trigger is compared to the apex?
I have the original Shield and the Shield Plus. You mentioned the 10 round mag. I'm not sure you said the 2nd mag was a 13 round magazine. I've had my original Shield for over two years and S&W called the finish Armornite. I like both firearms.
Definitely a good ccw 👍
Are both magazines versatile which means you can use a shield clip in a shield plus
Does the shield plus magazine work in the original shield pistol?
Just out of curiosity are the slides interchangeable? Could I throw a Shield slide onto a Shield Plus and vice versa?
You can go plus slide to 2.0 shield, but you can't go the other way.
I just got one , how do I get my slide to rack so easily? Just got it 3days ago.havent shot it yet .it's 9mm
Oil thr rails. The spring tension is a little stiff no worries over time it will be much easier
My shield magazines will not lock into my shield plus. Are they not comoatible?
Nice thing is with this current economy if you don’t have a gun at all you can pick up the shield for under 250.
It's 2021. Time to get over the whole reset thing
I carry a shield 40, and until they offer a 40 plus, that's what I'll be carrying.
They probably will soon! SW may not be the quickest but they listen to us customers
That and now .40 s&w has made a come back due to availability during the early stages of the pandemic.
If they had it in 40 I would be buying it for sure. Hopefully they come out soon
Yeah I am eager for a double stack 40 shield. I put mag extenders on my 40 mags for a +1 capacity but I still would feel better with more rounds per mag.
will shield slide work with plus frame?
Does the shield + mags work in original sheild?
Talk about the PALM SWELL for Pete's sake! It's one of the reasons for a much better grip. The Shield Plus grip is slightly fuller. It isn't just about the texture.
How does the M&P subcompact (9c) compare to Shield Plus?
I recently added night sights to my Shield 2.0 and while I have held the Shield Plus I’m content with staying with my single stack 2.0 awhile longer.
Is it the weight?
I have a Shield , what is a shield 2.0 ?
are the mags interchangeable?
I just bought the shield plus. I can’t wait to go to the range
So did I but still haven't shot it!
When will you have the review on the PDP?
Can the plus magazine fit inside the original 1.0
Are the triggers interchangeable?
Will the plus slide fit on the original shield
Waiting on my shield to be shipped to my FFL. Cant wait to check this bad boy out.
I read on the release date that the plus frame is cerakoted, hence the matte black frame thats even in finish.
