Had something very similar a few years ago before a triathlon team relay. Format was swim, long break, bike, long break, run. Had been bloated for two days, when I ate it felt like everything was stuck high up, but didn't really feel ill. Shortly after the swim I unexpectedly threw up and felt a lot better, so relieved to be rid of the discomfort. Ok to continue after break, with a bit of caution. Seemed like for some reason my stomach was refusing to do gastric flush to send stuff further down, perhaps my gut's way of saying "there's something in here we don't like, you're going to need to find another way to get rid" Maybe you had similar thing, who knows. If it happens to me again for 12+ hours I will try to force the chunder to happen. Short strides probably quite effective for that! But at your level, not racing still good decision as you're weren't likely to be 100%
Yep, it passed after a few days!
"Hero to Zero" - No way, not accepting that! I thought you were going to run, but you made the best decision not too! Perfect example for young and old athletes to listen to their bodies and instincts. Loving the series/vids!
Just a gut reaction at the time, hard to take! Thanks for the support 👊🏻
LOVING this series.........hope continues 👍🦾🏃
More to come!
Really respect your decision to pull from this race. Last year at my nationals I had a similar situation where I felt bloated and then vomited just before my strides. I decided to line up anyway and had to stop mid-race. My one and only DNF and I felt so ashamed. Shouldn't have been on that start line.
Live and learn mate!! Thanks for watching :)
Track probably went as well as you could of hoped for this year, hope it continues on to the road 👍🏻
Definitely!
Yikes! Enjoying the series - and look forward to seeing what comes next!
Thank you!
Obviously I’m sure this isn’t much consolation but you did everything you could do correctly and had a really good season of progression so even ending on this note, there are still so many positives to take from it. Good luck going forward :)
Thank you! The season was always coming to an end around this time in order to prepare for goals later in the year... really pleased with how the track races turned out!
Quality video mate and what a season!
Rest up well.
Thanks mate 👍🏼
Such a cool series. Good to see modern athletes racing a lot. A la old school.
Cheers!
Awesome videos, and smart decisions 👏
Thanks for watching!
Great vid, love the production, music etc. Awesome season on the track Callum 🙌
Thanks a lot 🤌🏼
Love these vids, inspired me to run. Wish you the best, keep running!
Thanks for watching & glad you found some value! We have more coming soon :)
Amazing series mate. Can’t wait for this time next year to see what that brings? 3:33??
That’s the plan mate! 🤝
Quality series Callum, well done. Moving forward though, any regrets about eating out the night before a race? Advice ive taken from others is that this is a risky move akin to "nothing new on race day". I get this isnt always possible and maybe you already thought this through and decided the risk was worth it.
Thanks James! Most times at races like this the food is provided in the athlete hotel & is normally really good! Everyone else seemed to get along fine with it, so probably just a bit of bad luck!
C'est la vie as the French would (probably not!) say. Stuff happens. Better this happened after you have had lots of good races than in the middle of the season. Any news on what the problem was? Hopefully nothing too serious.
Still a good, very good, season. There might stil be agap that needs closing -but it's a significantly smaller gap than it was at the start of the season.
Yep you’re right! Couldn’t have come at a better time really - I’ve travelled a lot & survived illness for the most part!
Back in training now for the winter 🤌🏼
Definitely gotta listen to your body sometimes mate. You’ve had a great season!
Thanks mate! Definitely, happens sometimes.
Peaking puts you on the edge..or over it.
Have a break and rebuild better for 23.
Thanks mate!
Drinking a red bull 2+ hours before the race? Caffeine peaks in the blood an hour after consumption so surely that’s just setting yourself up to crash ?
I sip the Red Bull for some time, usually finishing 90’ before the race, which is 30’ before I start warming up. For me, this is sits on my stomach well & I feel engaged. Most times I’m so wired from it I don’t sleep for hours after the race 😂 I think my tolerance is pretty low as I don’t consume much caffeine generally
