In this video, he explains the terrible depression he went through after his wife was diagnosed with an incurable cancer. Not a fan of jp...especially when the blame of hubby's pill-popping addiction is on HIS WIFE. Simply stated, the guy is a pill junkie. He can be your hero, I don't care, but don't try to inflate his balloon when talking to me. An angry man in a poorly fitting suit describes him best.

It is so sad to hear this story. Jordan Peterson has changed so many lives with his wisdom, I wish him nothing but health and blessings.
Jordan is brave AF Imagine having to be seen as perfect and completely put together. We are all human and fallible.
Being put together psychologically he is yes. I don’t think he lost this but I think his problem is physiological.
This man has supported a massive amount of people throughout his career at the hardest times in their lives. He is currently going through the hardest time of his life and I sincerely hope he can help himself as he has helped others 🙏

I have lost my mom to cancer last march, (pancreatic) ... My father is dependent on us since a miningitis he caught 4 years ago, i loved my mom dearly and would have been crushed by all of it, if it wasn't for your words of advise and awareness of the world, religion, history, politic..

Being in the field of mental health I've learnt that those who care for others sometimes also need care, it's called being human. That is exactly what it is he is very giving in his helpfulness but it was not reciprocated.
Thing is...if you listened to this interview...he's attributing none of this to addiction or personal trauma...and blaming it all on poor healthcare and bad luck.
Unless he was given a virtually coma-inducing 10mg of klonopin (starting dose for anxiety or sleeplessness is .5-1mg,) you don’t have this kind if reaction without abusing it. The fact that this man has a LONG, PUBLIC history of biased “research” and clearly thinking he knows more than experts in MANY fields, it wouldn’t ONE BIT surprise me if he sought out information to support his own natural impulse to abuse meds like this. I can’t count the number of highly “intelligent” and “successful” men I have seen fall into drug abuse and addiction this way.
They bs for a living, and they get so good at it they start bsing THEMSELVES to do things they KNOW are wrong but just “WANT” to do anyway.

I don't think it's strange you like him even more... It's definitely endearing to see someone being so honest in this day and age. He's more honest now than he ever was. The vast majority of the rest of the world are going around lying to themselves and everyone else these days
Seems strange but it's actually very understandable. We as society, are use to see people like him as if they are not capable of failing or struggle with stuff that we struggle in life. And most of them go through this kind of stuff but they hide it to the public to not be seen vulnerable to others. But when you see them struggling like you and also applying what they preach to their own situations and being succesful, makes you appreciate how real he is and how what he says actually works.

I think thats one of the many things that draw people to him; his ability to share his life experiences n relate to many others. @@preppingforbeginners1347 ive been tapering for literally months off a low dose of clonazepam for like 6 months its ridiculous, i was on 0.5 mg and now im down to half that almost, i reduce it by little chunks. if 0.5 mg is hard to get off i cant imagine someone on a significant dose getting off. im quite concerned what will happen when i finally make the leap off of these drugs
I dont agree. I've been on both too and personally benzodiazepines was no where near as hard as coming off of as heroin and oxycontin. I was on over 10 years. It's different for everyone. Coming off the benzos was more a mental thing than a physical for me. Like I would stay up for hours and pick my lips till they bleed and chewing my nails, then the skin around them. The heroin withdrawal was absolutely painful, I had my first seizure during rapid detox in Virginia. A friend of mine would have seizures if he came off his benzos tho. It's different for everyone. The brain and body reacts differently for each person and each drug.

Damn! 😱 I’m so glad I’ve always HATED allopathic “medicine” and have always been repulsed by ANY kind of drug, including cigarettes of ANY kind. If I ever have a headache, I take a bath with essential oils of lavender and neroli. @@brandonhathaway6259 Sometimes and only a very small percentage of chronic pain patients become truly addicted. Too many people use dependance as a definition of substance use disorder, when you can become dependent on a great number of medications.

While it’s terrible that Jordan Peterson has had to go through this ordeal, it’s actually reassuring that even such an inspirational man of strength and character is vulnerable to some of the same things I have struggled with in the past. I think the fact that he has gone to such lengths to overcome it, especially in the middle of family crisis’, says a lot about him. God bless the Peterson family

Otie Jason He got physically dependent on something that was deemed allegedly “safe.”
That’s a lot different than being mentally dependent on something like sex, food, or cigarettes etc. which is more aligned with misuse of self reliance.
Although it’s quite unfortunate what happened to him, maybe it’s a blessing in disguise that brings to light on how harmful these widely prescribed monsters in a pill really are.

This was truly heartbreaking to watch but also probably the most inspiring video of Jordan I've ever watched at the same time. The strength shown by him, his wife and his daughter is unbelievably heart warming.
I owe so much to this guy. I have suffered plenty but I could have suffered much much more had I not discovered him and his content. I discovered him in good time I am living a life of meaning now, so much so it hardly matters if I'm not successful, because the path I've taken is profound. I will dedicate my journey to him. Such a lovely family, I do hope they all recover to a place that gives them the fulfillment they deserve. God bless you all.

how im down to 1 mg of klonopin..after being on zanax for 15 years...i cant seem to get off the 1 mg....withdrawals are what i think hell is like...any help would be appreciated
@@lilralphie1312 I don't have personal experience with klonopin but the only advice I can give is to tapper, tapper, tapper. Reduce your dosage by a small amount and keep it there till you are comfortable. I did that to over-come a multi-decades long drinking habit and also - earlier - I did the same to break a multi-year dependence on a stimulant ( Provigil ).
In each case I did this over many months. Breaking away from alcohol was actually easier than the stimulant. You need a good support system and stability in your life to do this well. It also helps to be busy and challenged, but in a way that you can balance. Too much stress is going to make it much harder.
These drugs change how our mind functions and they change our personality. So there is a long term process of recovery that goes on and on as these take time to return to normal. Also breaking these habits brings out new realizations about ourselves and that can be VERY difficult emotionally. There can be lots of regret and sometimes anger directed at ourselves and at others. Getting therapy - counseling - can help.
For me there were the physical symptoms but the hardest part was depression and some mood swings and a loss of motivation and suicidal thoughts. But when you start moving in the right direction time becomes your friend, as every day is an opportunity to start feeling better.
If you google klonopin withdrawal there is lots of good information. But people are different and there is no one answer. Good luck. Believe in your self and value your self and you can do it !

Probably. You need to look at yourself and decide if you think it will work. It has to be your own decision and your own commitment.
Everyone is different. I was moderate but very committed daily drinker. Stopping cold turkey was too hard. I would swing back with a binge episode and then I would start to drink again. I did that multiple times.
It took me about four months to taper down. Then for a year I still had cravings but they were manageable.
I even broke down and had a drink on occasion during that year but never lost control. I was getting hangovers too, from just a single drink because I was more sensitive. I drank on about 10 days in that first year (after going to a full daily stop) but never heavily. Now I'm seven months into the second year and the craving is gone and alcohol isn't even that enjoyable - it just makes me feel fuzzy headed.
I was an alcoholic but I almost never drank before noon. I drank to get a buzz but I didn't usually drink to the point of passing out (I did that when I was young and was a weekend drinker). Other alcoholics have different profiles and different histories.
I was a heavy cigarette smoker too for about seven years and with that I had to stop cold turkey. It was awful for maybe three weeks, with the first few days being the worse. Also I still would want a cigarette for months and months. With drink I thought that if I go slowly my brain can adapt and the relapse risk is lower.
With addictions our brains adapt to the drugs. Quitting is hard because our brains have to adjust a second time. Slowing down the adjustment period (making it longer) can help make the change more durable. If you switch off too quickly it's like we become brittle or fragile. It's hard to cope with life.
Peterson had a complex story but what seems to have done him in the most was when he decided to stop cold turkey and tried to do that for a week or so. Then he became over sensitive to the drug but also needed it even more - his nervous system was changed.
Even though I was only a moderate drinker stopping changed my sleep patterns and made me more emotional. All sorts of stuff we hide from ourselves comes out. Fears and self-doubts and regrets and angers. Working on addictions usually has to involve working on these issues too. If you are busy and involved in life it helps. People needs goals and some sort of support too.
For me, with smoking, it seemed more like a physical addiction. Cold turkey was hard but worked. Drinking was physical but it was more tied into my thinking and it was better for me to stop slowly. You still need to be very disciplined with yourself.
I wrote down my intake on a paper calendar. I used a calibrated measuring cup so that I couldn't cheat or fudge. No eyeballing the amount. I removed drinking from ALL social activities. I made having a drink into a routine where it was like taking medicine. I would savor that daily drink - even though it got weaker over time - but I never gave in to saying to myself "I'll just have a little extra".
One of my escape valves was knowing that I could hold my intake at the new current level till I was comfortable with it. I tried not to stop too quickly. I wasn't having my "last" drink every day...I knew that the next day I could allow myself another small drink. It let me relax.
But if drinking is really hurting your life or has taken over and you can't stop get outside help. It's a hard drug to break.
Sorry to be so long in my answer. I don't want to make it sound easy, but it worked for me. The desire to take control was growing for years. You need to really want to change.
@Creeping Death you aren't alone in trying to do that. Good luck. Many people say that stopping 100% is the way to go - it worked for one person I know and for another they tried and failed many times but they are now a non-drinker. The first guy was a wine drinker (more a social drinker) the other was more an abusive (heavy) drinker. I was more in the middle.

I have been through what Jordan has and much much more, and for many more years. I can hear in his voice the exhausting toll this has taken on him; mind body and soul. Cold turkey off of prescribed benzos was a mere blip in nearly 20 years of suffering for me but I remember it being very rough. My heart goes out to him, deeply. Trauma comes in many flavors and when it finally causes the brain to shift state the traumatization becomes chronic and increasingly mounts. No doubt some pharmaceuticals can in some people do much more harm than good.
The brain will go into a wind up mode and create many varied chronically painful symptoms, including pain amplifications and creation of pains that are physically unexplained by existing diagnostic testing.
Medical experts who understand this “syndrome” are few and far between and few are fortunate to find a physician that will work with a patient long term. This is why people will travel the world to find something, anything that will reduce the suffering. Jordan is very fortunate to have found a treatment that has reset his central nervous system, at least for now. The tremendous support from friends and family that Jordan has experienced is quite rare under these circumstances and he is greatly blessed to have had such loving support. I have watched other videos of Jordans such as his recent conversation with Fr Robert Barron and believe that God is preparing him for great things ahead. I would encourage him to research the terms “Central Sensitization” and “Chronic Pain Syndrome.” He just may become the “Voice” for people suffering under these little known and very disabling neurologic disorders.

There are a lot more of us who understand what you have suffered through than you may know. You just might have a “God Calling”; to be a voice for people who suffer terribly with little support and even less understanding.
Chuck has a good point about the negative affects of medication possibly outweighing their benefits. I also experienced this but not in such arduous circumstances nor in severity of medication. I was tired all of the time. Always tired when I took this medication meant to combat my ASD and ADHD. However it caused me exhaustion. This exhaustion was so much that even if I slept 9 hours a night it felt like I slept for 1. If I didn't fall asleep in class I would risk going into an area between consciousness and unconsciousness. This was much worse than falling asleep to delay it. I was almost incoherent in thought every single day. Chuck you are a brave soul to admit or create this story (I cannot verify it as it is the internet which I am sorry for as it does sound horrible and plausible) When most people who experience this can speak about it without fear of being called a junkie or someone who is just against beneficial medication we will be in a better society. Chuck's story has more credibility to it because historically American pharmaceutical companies have given patients addicting or dependency generating medication.

Thanks for posting this video to update people. Really sorry to learn what this poor guy has been through. Very scary and could happen to any one of us. I believe him to be a good man and was always so impressed with how learned and articulate I've always found him to be and will continue to pray for him every day to be fully healed and fully restored.
As someone from Serbia I am happy to see Dr. Peterson being helped in Belgrade. The sad fact is that people in Serbia have a decades long history of abusing benzodiazapine based pills because of the hard lives they live - Bensedin and Bromazepan being the most common of them. It would make sense that the best experts in the problem of withdrawal symptoms would be here.

Jordan all that you have experienced is tantamount to an excruciation form of suffering and touches my heart on the deepest level. There is no doubt that thousands if not more will become more conscience and aware what you have experienced could happen to anyone. It takes a man of great moral fiber and character to disclose the human aspects of life especially given the circumstances and adverse events that in and of themselves would put any man on his knees. You took what is widely prescribed and most would not be so committed to rid themselves of a substance that establishes an addition in a matter of only two weeks. I highly recommend the book 'Cracked: Why psychiatric drugs don't work' by James Davis a university professor in the UK. It is an expose of the psychiatric drug industry and how doctors have been enticed by drug companies to give highly addictive anti-depressants out like sweets. It is sober reading but you cannot put it down. Women are the prime targets, instead of being tested for hormone disruptions like peri- menopause they are simply handed anti-depressants instead. I am sorry for JP experience but I know he will become an even better doctor as a result. Hopefully it will draw attention to this important issue.
It's because doctors are lazy and don't care if their patients die. They don't even actually listen to patients concerns. If you see a doctor for stress they should help you with the cause of the stress not just drug you.
I was prescribed at young age and have battled so hard to get the facts out to “advocate for myslef” I got off Paxil’s 11 ansd benzodiazepines at 22 after my mom who constantly takes the bait and puts pressure in me or actively manipulated my reality to make me belive I need them. 8 years off Benzos. Not taken them for life! I went off cold turkey 🦃. Sick quacks even Jordan got lulled into the mass acceptance quackery. Fuuuuuck man. Wow.

It is so crazy how a person that helps to many people around the world its suffering on that way. I lost my sister by suicide the past May 5, i been suffering anxiety since my childhood, even we broke up with my girlfriend after five years of relationship like four weeks ago, (in good terms at least) and trough all this, this man, his videos and vision about life, are giving me so much strength. Makes me realize that no matter who you are, bad human factors are with you, at least a couple of them. Sorry if i have some mistskes, my native language is Spanish but i don't like to use the translator. Good vibes for all 🙏
