I like that little editing trick in the intro where you take out the music during the interruption and then add it back in when you continue to explain.

Mentoring and supporting others is probably the biggest thing I miss from working with a team. Enjoy it!

Same Derek! But like you I'm sure, I don't miss it enough to go back to working for a firm. 😂

Congrats on your first hire man! Building a team is fun.
Hiring people is almost always the right step to take if you want to grow.

Congrats on the inflection point in your business. Such a hard thing to do and even gives me the heebee-jeebeez being responsible on having gainful employed another individual. Wishing you the best.

Hey Logan! I’m in the same situation as you with my next employee starting August 21. Unfortunately, I have had a couple bad hires over the last few years. I have learned sooooo much from those. For example, make sure you have a handbook in place. I used sixfifty just to get a template. Make sure your offer letter is really descriptive. Make sure you’re doing performance evaluations frequently and regularly during their first year. I used to schedule biweekly performance meetings, but they were worthless. What we really needed was an online form that we both filled out before the meeting in order to keep us on track. Otherwise, we just talked about small talk and weather. Also make sure you are open to upward feedback. What could you be doing that makes the life of your new hire more difficult? It’s a big step and I’m so thankful I’ve had one person work out, but I have learned sooooo much from the two who didn’t. Once it does work out, it’s like crack. Being able to see someone develop from your success and then complete tasks on your behalf… it’s amazing. You’re building an asset of knowledge for them and your clients are happy with the extra attention. Feel free to reach out, I love to chat about this. Best wishes on this endeavor!!

Congrats, I’m sure this is an exciting yet daunting time for your firm! As a MAcc student, I’m looking to start helping people with their taxes this upcoming tax season and was wondering if you had any recommendations as to how I should go about it initially software-wise etc. since it would just be me? Good luck!

Thank you! I've only used the expensive stuff, so maybe TurboTax?

Sorry if you've mentioned this before, but what tax software do you use? Lacerte, Drake, ProConnect, ProSeries, UltraTax... so many options!

Are you looking to offload any clients and start a profit share?
