Think of the bike market like yoga pants… it doesn’t lie. The FJR attracts buyers - the ST didn’t.
Would pick the FJR even though I like the ST too. :) Thanks for sharing your opinion. Cheers.
Great review, thanks! Sounds like the st would be better for me.
ST owner here and I love the bike but I've never ridden an FJR. It does strike me as a more exciting bike.
Back in maybe 2007, after a four hour ride on my Buell S3 to my job in Minnesota, I test-rode an ST1300; so smoooth, and felt pretty light and manoeuvrable… should have traded my Buell in right then, but I was stupid.
I have had both bikes and I have to disagree with your overall assessment. Your main point about the fjr was a snatchy throttle. I did think that when I first got my fjr but then I learned to be smooth with the throttle and still be able to have fun.
I have both. I not agree with your assessment about throttle and clutch. I think you have to do maintenance or adjustments (as it is all adjustable). Or maybe its your throttle technic. Also, I never understood your evaluation of fully adjustable suspension. It does not matter what the factory settings are as long as you can adjust it as you please. If you want you can make FJR butter smooth in seconds.
Have to agree. Never drive a St but owned the FJR and it was super smooth is all ranges. Clutch was fantastic. The bike almost felt to smooth to me. Lots of power and def the better looking bike. The st is probably a better tourer.
In 2022, I was searching for both to buy, couldn't find either so I ended up buying the GSXS1000GT+ instead. It seems like sport touring bikes are being supplanted by ADV bikes, but I don't care for them.
Absolutely, adv bikes are the new sport touring bikes.
So? Are going to get another one?
I have 2 bikes an '01 CBRXX Blackbird. and an '06 ST. The ST is a fantastic motorcycle I enjoy riding it but the experience isn't particularly engaging from a sensory perspective. I wanted a capable sport tourer that could do ridiculous amount of miles in one sitting and the ST fills the bill. The bird is there for the sensory overload experience
Been riding nothing but Birds since the 90s. Everyone has had a set of Corbin beetle bags. Bought a Concours and sold it within a month. Not a fan of big bikes on small diameter front tires
Did you ever do anything with the zero? I saw the first video a few minutes ago and was really excited to see the rest of the series but it doesn't seem like there is one
no gave up on it. But i did sell it to a guy who got it running. I might have to contact him. He installed ford cmax cells. Apparently the bike only had 700 miles!
@@motardsquid gotcha. Thanks for following up.
@@DoRC Yeah i dropped the ball on that one. I was really excited too. I will check with him and do a follow up :)
@@motardsquid sounds good
All bikes need ECU flash to get the smoothness and max HP out of bike come from factory rich and jerky because of regulation they have to pass...night day difference
They are actually far too lean for emission purposes. The throttle percentages are terrible. If you own an FJR, do yourself a favor and get an Ivan tune. He owns an FJR and has the map laid out perfectly. It's worth every nickle. Runs better, smoother, and cooler.
"rich from the factory, for regulations.." The absence of clue is at the interstellar vacuum level
The Concours 1400.
Motorousa the guy youtuber i bought this FJR loves his concours more than the fjr. Never owned one, but I did ride his and it was incredible.
