- A contender to the Goldwing title has been announced, except it's not from Honda. But in almost every way, it looks and is designed like a Goldwing - with an EIGHT CYLINDER, 2000 cc engine and the latest technology. Will this push Honda to up their game? Or does this spell the end for the Honda Goldwing?

A Gold Wing is more than a collection of parts. Any company can copy the parts and put it together. But that doesn't mean that the parts are functionally identical or made to the same height standards. Nor does it mean that the company will stand behind their product, and fix any issues that may arise.
Just because you copy a product and you make improvements on that "copy" doesn't mean that it is superior than the original.
We’d all be better off buying less chicom stuff.
I agree. Why support a regime that wants the Death of our Civilization?
This. Hyping up chicom garbage is not a good look either.
I have lived in Iraq for the last 8 years and there are Great Wall trucks everywhere. They are absolute crap. I wouldn't touch that thing with a 100 foot pole.
The owner of a Goldwing is not only the owner of a motorcycle, the Goldwing is a legend, it is recognition, it is a personality, it is a career, it is trust, it is 50 years of evolution. All this cannot be supplanted by a nice screen and a bigger engine.
LOL!
And have a look at it I know a Goldwing is not a sport bike but this thing looks like it will lean about 2° in either direction before scraping out😂
I wonder what was said 50 years ago when the GW arrived on the scene. ;)
@@Visionery1it instantly revolutionized motorcycling. When the gold wing came out, nobody said it was Chinese crap. Everyone was immediately blown away with the build quality and specs, like with any Japanese motorcycle manufacturer.
Remember the old bumper sticker, "Buy American, the Job You Save May Be Your Own"
That doesn't help sell Goldwings either.
They have a long way to go to match service facilities offered by Honda and by independent motorcycle mechanics. No thank you.
There is no way I’d ever purchase, ride a Chinese Motorcycle.. in typical Chinese Fashion, it’s a knock off of the Goldwing.
A thinking man for sure. CCP junk as usual. Took 'em 1500 years to build the wall. yeah.....
I still own a GL1500. I would be reluctant to buy an unproven Chinese product that is also lacking the dealer support network of Honda.
I'm sure some people would buy them, but without a good dealer network, technicians to work on them, and parts supply, it wouldn't be worth the purchase price no matter if it is less than a Goldwing.
Yea, that ride back to China for the first oil change is a doozy ;-)
I'll stick with a Goldwing.
Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki used to be competition to the Goldwing and they all failed to dominate. Perhaps Honda has not remained competitive without competition that isn’t V-twin powered, but I doubt it. The new wing has an alternative front end and it has lost weight. Some don’t appreciate that, but they seem to continue to sell pretty well for such an expensive bike. One wonders what the upper limit of weight is on a motorcycle when suspension and tires are considered. The 8 cylinder will add length that won’t necessarily add to rider and passenger space and will contribute to turning radius. It will be interesting to see, but even if the warranty is 10 years, what good is it if you breakdown in the middle is nowhere and parts aren’t available and there isn’t a dealer within 500 miles?
In my opinion, the six cylinder Kawasaki, and Yamaha and Suzuki V4's were better than the GL 1200.
@@fredtracy3931I liked the 1200 and 1300 Ventures. It was pretty cool that the engine was similar to the engine in the Vmax. I was in high school and wasn’t really interested in them and couldn’t begin to afford one. For some reason, it always seemed like the reviews put the Goldwing on top. Perhaps it was due to the advertising in the magazine. I still don’t feel like I could afford a Goldwing even if I wanted one. They are in new car territory for me.
@@alanhassall I was 17 when Suzuki released the Cavalcade 1400 in 1985, and I remember the Kawasaki Voyager 1300 being called the Texas moped, on the cover of Cycle World. :)
What could go wrong with a Chinese 8 cylinder quad cam?
as a 2018 dct tour glowing owner I would NOT consider buying this bike.BUT I do think that honda should use an all digital dash and maybe add some safety features such as blind spot monitoring
I will give it a couple of years to see how it will hold up! But Honda better get its shit together with all the recalls and other little problems they have with there motorcycles. There not what they use to be!!!
Gold Wing has always had one thing going for it that made it the touring bike to have. Reliability. A 30 year old GL1500 will take you across the country with one carb working and everyone knows it because it's been done. Not sure I want to be stuck in a corn field in Iowa waiting for Hong Kong Phooey to come and fix my bike. I'll wait but if it turns out to be a better bike than the Honda, that's on them.
My 30-year-old Aspi took 70-year-old me from Heidelberg, Germany to Kyiv, Ukraine last March. 2000 km, some of the worst roads you will see, many traffic control posts, soldiers, etc. Never faltered, and still drew admiring smiles.
It is always good to have a little competition in the market. Brings down pricing.
100%
just give your job to another china company.
@@carbonarrow7 Tell me, what is not made in China, these days? Even American flags are made there, PLEASE! LOL. You want me to change the world? I am too tiny for that.
A China Goldwing, oh
Hell No.
My Goldwing was made in the USA.
I’m retired and enjoy restoring older Honda motorcycles from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. I bought my first Honda in 1968 and have owned 35 Hondas since then. Honda is known for great design and great manufacturing that results in quality products. Although I do see more quality products coming out of China than I saw in the past, in general Chinese companies are still known for copying rather than innovating, and for very shoddy quality in manufacturing. I’m guessing 5 years from now I will still be looking for my first sighting of one of these Chinese “Goldwing” bikes on a US road.
Very simple, no way, no how!
No thanks. I'm not interested in their cars or motorcycles. And if they stole Honda IP to make this bike, then it shouldn't be allowed in any country that obeys intellectual property laws.
I want that engine for go Kart project
I’ve been a Golding rider for many many yrs. There is no way I would buy this new replica of one of the nice motorcycles ever to be put on the street
@@disconductorder Why? You can get better numbers with less mass & weight.
@@NVArt001 the sound makes it worth it, flat V8's have that old school f1 sound
I don’t think Honda has anything to worry about! The Chinese are notorious for building things using substandard materials! Their engineering falls way short of the Japanese! I wouldn’t spend money on something that doesn’t have the reliability that Japanese products do!
I don't blame you and them calling it an S2000 is even another level of dumb.
Not posting that from an iphone, I presume? There is a lot of very high quality stuff coming out of China over the last 10+ years.
But I would not knowingly support any company that steals IP so blatantly. Not for me, even if the quality is fantastic.
@@barrytimm5497 It is a difference...An Iphone is a American company that ALREADY have the engineering, design, materials etc. to make the phone and China just mass reproduce it...
vs The whole Product engineering, design, concept, quality etc. from start to finish being Chinese...
It is a huge difference
China simply mass produce products from American companies they not the engineering and development team from Apple and other non-Chinese companies. The issue is with CHINESE COMPANY PRODUCTS
@@truthiscensored Actually, Apple only partially designs the iPhone. They provide their UI requirements, styling designs, key component selections, performance expectations, etc, etc to Foxconn and Foxconn does much of the detailed design and the majority of the iPhone range manufacturing in Zhengzhou, China. Foxconn is, of course, the world's biggest contract electronics manufacturer.
But my point is that China can and does build a lot of quality items, in addition to the junk they mass produce. It's no longer as easy as saying, "Well it's from China, so it must be junk!" There is context needed now....
It's cute on the showroom floor, but how does it ride? How is the quality control? Operating costs? Parts availability?
Don't get too enthused until we find out if this is just more Chinese "Tofu-dregs" . . .
Unfortunately in Australia we have Great wall. I am a mechanic so to say i will NEVER buy a vehicle built by GW .. They are terrible complete with Extremely poor materials used in the manufacture of them. dont get me wrong they come with all the bells and whistles but thats it. the longest we had to wait for an engine mount a consumable part is 3 months. not weeks months. dont do it
Still waiting for Harley parts I ordered 4months ago. Seems to be the norm these days
@@esesrides1255 They’re probably coming from Asia as well
That's because Harleys parts are cast form steel melted inside active volcano, and forged with bare hands. Then they place parts on the gravestone of Arthur Davidson and waiting for full moon so Arthur can bless those parts with his spirit.
That's takes time
@@chrisvader2630 And don’t forget, it’s all done under the Global Trade Support of Thailand, Brazil, China and Taiwan manufacturing and sealed with nice hefty made in America (but it’s mostly not) price tag. God bless HD.
Thanks for the heads up, I'm sure the will get to the UK at some point but I wouldn't trust something this complex to anyone but Honda! It would be interesting to find out how much though.
No, even if the bike was fantastic. The company making it has no infrastructure (dealerships, repair shops , parts ) here in the USA. Also, you don't know if it's reliable.
Heck no! No Chicomm junk for me. I know that we import a ton of Chinese made items. Most out of our individual control. But, just like everything else engineered by others, they just copied Japanese greatness. I will continue to buy Honda quality for my riding needs and desires.
Exactly! No Chinese copied junk. Boeing airplanes are in trouble because of Chinese junk titanium.
Same as others, reliability and service will be the big question that only time or an outstanding execution would tell. Wonder if they did when Honda designed the GL1500 subjected to extreme testing for design validation, and still many issues had to be addressed over time. China has come long way, but great companies take years to build respect, trust and reputation on consumers eyes 👍🏼
A major thing to consider is parts and service. It would be wise to wait and see how successful that this bike will be.
No, Scott, I will stay with the Goldwing, a well know quantity and intity!!!
I go out of my way to avoid crappy Chinese tools and appliances. There is no way on earth i would buy a Chinese bike. Not ever!
I bought a Chinese TV.........once
what were you once able to watch on that Chinese TV?LoL
@nelsonphilip4520 not a lot
Returned for store credit. Samsung still running 15 yrs later.
@@killer1963daddy Where were you on Nov. 22nd 1963?
it's all about Kasin Engineering..my 1976 parts list can still be ordered from Honda Japan. in the year 2102 will you be able to order parts for it? how is the build quality?
So don’t call it a goldwing that’s false advertisement
Love the shirt ! Cheers from Texas.
Ditto on the shirt!
Hope you are enjoying your flying interest. I have owned my GL 1500 sine 2000. I built my velocity aircraft in 1991. Still enjoy flying this canard aircraft.
Love it, I was just up flying tonight, as a matter of fact!
Too many unanswered questions, dealers, service, parts and reliability. I would have to wait until all these issues were resolved before I would think about buying this bike.
Look at the resale values of Great Wall products. They plummet, and there is a reason for that.
Well, to be fair, the resale value of modern European cars is not exactly something to celebrate either, you lose thousands as you drive off the showroom floor.
???'s
Quality of all components, for wear, corrosion resistance and electronics ... + all factors such as 'lean-angles', braking, acceleration and stability etc.
Perhaps the competition will force a goldwing price reduction. Hope so.
How can it be called a Goldwing if its not from Honda ?
no,no,no,china built,NO. beyond that, there are bound to be issues and what about updates or recalls? dealer network? NO!
The world are evolving, and who can resist an engine like that?
Reminds me of the Yamaha star venture also
I was asked to fix a Taiwanese Scooter.........no parts/dealers in NA.....unsupported junk.
My take away on this development that this is actually great news for the luxury touring motorcycle market that Great Wall has invested in this market segment. As Honda did in the 1970s, I figure that G.W. will use their 1st ever motorcycle to build their auto network here in the U.S.
Nice too see you Scott how's the plane flying going great see you
It's great! Check it out over at www.youtube.com/@CanardBoulevard
I would be happy to test it here in New Zealand, I do about 20k km per year on two wheels, and will be looking for my next bike shortly, either another Harley Ultra, an Indian Pursuit or a Gold Wing, haven't decided yet. But I don't think I would be splashing out big money for an unknown bike with no bike brand history, or sales and parts local portal. Don't get me wrong, it ticks every box I want for my next bike, but its got a lot to prove, including reliability and construction/parts quality before I put 2000cc between my legs and twist the throttle hard. Im guessing pricing would have to be 2/3 of the Gold wing to even get me to look at one. So its a wait and see for me
And how is this better than a GW? Lol
I would sure like to ride it. I have a kove 450 rally. The build quality is excellent. I expect this new bike will be extremely well built.
Well, I guess if it's cheap enough you could buy two so as to hopefully keep one running. Use the spare to cannibalize parts from. Or maybe put a tow bar on it and take both for a ride. Lots of choices. to me, China means cheap and low quality. You shouldn't even use Gold Wing in the same sentence with China made bike.
Wow, a 1000lb touring bike...who wants a 1000lb motorcycle. Honda and BMW made great efforts to lighten their touring motorcycles. The current Gold Wing Tour is nearly 90lbs lighter than the old model and that was a hugh upgrade over the old model...you can feel the weight loss as soon as you swing your leg over the seat...everything with the motorcycle is better with less weight. I can't imagine riding a heavier touring bike than my current Gold Wing..I wish Honda could make it even lighter
Winger for LIFE 🦾💯
my humble thoughts: Honda could be more than capable to make a 8 cylinder engine, if they didn't made it there are good technical reasons probably. On the other side, i love the concept of a huge 2000cc 8 cylinder, that would be my dream new Gw in place of that shrinked up 2018 model. Said that, my only concern about hyper touring bikes is reliability, if the bike will be up to my expectations i'll be happy to buy one.
Disagree on your more cylinders is better viewpoint. Case in point is Kawasaki's history with the Luxo-tourer segment whereas brand-K started out with the 6-cylinder Voyager 13. Then downsize & lighten with the 4-cylinder Voyager 12 model. And finally settling into Kawasaki's longest iteration of the Voyager with a 1700cc V-twin.
@nelsonphilip4520 . And NONE of the Kawasakis you listed were ever real competition for the Goldwing, so your point is invalid. This Chinese tourer is marketed for the "bigger is better" American buyer. Aimed right at the Goldwing at a time when it has lost its touring roots, with tiny luggage and fuel capacity compared to older Goldwings of the past.
@@nunya9555Agree! Although I feel it's better said that in spite of Kawasaki's best efforts to compete with the Honda Gold Wing, they failed first with their fuel injected 6 cylinder and then with their simpler, lighter, and more affordable 4 cylinder Voyager 12. So Kawasaki switch targets focusing in on H-D by developing a V-Twin Voyager to compete against the the Steet Glide & Road Glide where they continue to languish.
@@nunya9555 well said my friend
My Goldwings are American made right here in AMERICA and that's as close as I will get to them. Japanese engineering was fine until they moved production out of America.
Good Luck
You are in my prayers
Hoka Hey
I ride a 1991 GL1500 Goldwing and was a motorcycle mechanic for many years and I would really like to ride that monster to see if it is as cheezy as alot of Chinese stuff is .
Since Every goldwing from 2018 up is self destructing,Honda better watch it's ass from competitors
No, no, no, no, nyet, nay, mais non, and hell no.
I’m curious how many gold wing owners want a bike this size.
Exactly, bigger/heavier quite often is not better, especially in motorcycles.
I can get anything I need for my Goldwing. Not so with that for a couple years.
Yes looks promising
When the new Goldwing went smaller people like me over 6 foot is extremely uncomfortable. The passenger seat comfort has many complaints. I have the 1800 '06. So I'm out buying future Goldwing's. Now I will buy the BMW grand America. This may be a possibility.
Hopefully this gets HONDA off their butts to give us the upgrades We have been begging them for years now.
More horsepower and a faster bike. Touchscreen and better software to go with it. Better, Bluetooth integration and home link. Give us a better stereo system that rocks and a more comfortable adjustable seat where the heat actually works and the heated grips don’t stop working in a couple of years.
Last but not least, how about some more color options? Why can’t I get the touring model in the same color as the bagger version? Quit the BS Honda. Give us what we have been asking for! Don’t force us to buy from your competitor.
Maintenance will be an issue. Honda has a great rep and shops EVERYWHERE! This bike…will be slow starting as far as repeatable shops go. Having trouble on a trip with a Honda, no prob! The next town has a shop. Having trouble on a trip with this bike, you’re dead in the water. Maybe in a decade or two it might be different, but now, “dance with the one what brung ya!” HONDA.
I really want to hate on this, but I have to admit the idea of a 2l flat 8 is pretty freaking cool. I wouldn't buy the bike but if the motor is any good it could be a pretty awesome swap for a small car like a Miata or Triumph Spitfire or something.
The bike looks like they fused a Honda Goldwing with a Yamaha Venture. it's nice looking but I'd never buy a bike from China.
Theoretically fine. A known devil is better than an unknown angel.
The price and popularity of Gold Wings will go up. Here is a parallel example. When Yamaha introduced the Virago vtwin essentially competition for Harley Davidson (the OG), Harley sales and popularity went way up with 'the last great generation' and left Yamaha holding the bag on failure. And by contrast Yamaha was/is a well respected motorcycle manufacturer by consumers within the USA. Consumers want the real deal and are willing to pay for it.
Lol ... Engineering excellence, extensive r&d and high quality no doubt.
Great wall cars are absolute pieces of s t piled ten high at the crusher.
And you know this how?

Well, they have no plans to sell it outside China as far as I know. It would be interesting to see it actually reviewed by some western outlet just to see what level of quality they can reach vs arguably the best motorcycle manufacturer in the world. Honda is so good that people consider them almost boring... because the quality is so high. And this is coming from a Triumph rider.
Has anyone ever seen this bike on the road? Every video shows a blurred-out Goldwing. I would like more information.
When will they start selling in the US?
My 2013 GL1800 has never let me down, I have no issue taking my bike anywhere in this country with no limits on mileage, in all sorts of weather (except snow). Would I trust a Chinese copy to live up to this standard? Absolutely not. Let the other guy be the test subject for this copycat bike.
According to European retulations a motorcycle is a vehicle that... and weigths no more than 400 kg (882 lbs) so good luck, great wall 2000! :P
Just as long as it will achieve 300,000 miles with standard servicing?
What this guy is saying about the Chinese is what my Dad said about Japanese products.
1800 CC's is not enough? My 1500 is plenty of bike for me. And who's going to fix it if there is a problem? Are parts available in the US?
It looks beautiful and massive. I am sure that in time when fully debugged it will be a good bike. Don’t underestimate the Chinese. If they have a good dealership network I would consider buying one in a few years if the price is right but I will keep my GW.
Old news, nothing new here.this was first reported over a year ago by great wall
No it doesn’t look exactly like a wing. I have one. Do you?
Thanks.....I'll keep my '91.
Interesting. I’ll stick to older Wings and Harley’s and Spyders. But it is good to see competition. A little downward price pressure isn’t a bad thing. RE is less money than the big three and make fine bikes. We shall see. Good vid Scott!
I think I will keep my 1995 1500.
-- Will it be available on Temu or Shein? 😂
Will free shipping also apply? :)
I would try it
I think that price and quality matters too.
Thanks for the presentation Scott...complete, precise, unbiaised...my opinion is that I'd be careful buying from Chinaland but if anything positive comes out of this is the fact that will make Honda make further advancements on the existing Goldwing in an attempt to keep their market share...to the benefit of the consumer of course...competition is healthy.
How about a 1000cc 650lb bike with all the touring gear that is as comfortable but gets 50MPG two up at 80MPH? 8 speeds? Something new that isn't BIGGER and HEAVIER... {!-{>
As someone who is still new to the wing I would say no to this imitation wing. I’ve had my 2018 since 2020 and love it..plus I’ve invested plenty of time and $$ getting it to where it’s pretty much perfect for myself. I know how it handles, rides, brakes etc and have no desire to purchase this behemoth. Plus who’s going to service it? Sell it? No thanks.
Non GW riders:
Please read the comments. Yes, GW riders really are DBs on par with HD and BMW guys who think they're special humans because of their bikes.
When parked, the non-DBs will approach YOU for some bike talk.
(I own 2 of the 3 referenced bikes, along with others.)
Long time Goldwing owner here. I’d throw a leg over it.
Same. The Goldwing has slowly lost its touring focus. A 30 year old GL has more luggage capacity than my 20 year old wing. The new ones have even less! And a new one has less fuel capacity than mine. Old ones also have a softer ride than mine. I feel like they peaked 30 years ago. Competition would be good.
I'd be concerned about maintenance on this monster. Even if everything is built to last like a Honda, having it properly serviced would be concern for me. Having said that, damn she sounds sexy! That boxer 8 has some throaty growl. I could see myself rocking the bagger version. Her name would be Snu Snu.
Goldwimg from Wish. This os probably gonna sell decently on some emerging markets but it's never gonna be a match to the refinement of 50 years of Honda engineering and craftmanship
My issue with it is where would I have it worked on? And that ain't no backyard mechanics triumph motorcycle engine either
This bike is a behemoth and would be a handful at low speeds. I think it would have a niche market like the Boss Hoss. Maybe as a trike it could make inroads. 😊
Iiiiiimmmm not too sure about this one. I bet it’s a nightmare to work on and troubleshoot
As a Bulgarian where GreatWall made a factory to make their Isuzu copy cars (with actual Isuzu engines) They break the stigma of "Cinese made". Also currentday Volvo is owned and built in China too so why complain so much?
Boom Shack A Lack A Boom! I'm in
to the 32 valve 150hp 8 cylinder engine. Too bad I can't ride any longer
There wasn't much where the Chinese could vary, just look at the history of motorcycling, in terms of high-displacement engines for touring motorcycles, it's more than proven that the Boxer has several dynamic advantages when it comes to controlling weight, so if you're going to have a 2000cc and you want the engine to be smooth and at the same time different from the others, your variation was in the number of cylinders. There is no production motorcycle with an 8-cylinder engine, it really is a project worthy of the Chinese wall. It will be interesting to see the feeling and at the same time the sound will be interesting, yes a 6 cyl sounds excellent but an 8 cyl won't be worse. I think the idea is good, the only thing that is strange in these times is the fact that even today there are few engine solutions with turbos or compressors, to have good dynamics motorcycles have to make use of low cylinders, meaning there will always be a lack of torque but with a turbo or a compressor a more dynamic and faster touring motorcycle could be created, maybe the Chinese will leave that for later🤷
To have an excelente touring with everything that you need you dont need more then the RT 1250.
Is a very beautiful bike which I would love to ride. My Gl 1800 is my favorite bike out of 3 other bikes but definitely the Souod is interesting
Im interested but can't judge the book by its cover. In other words, we just see a picture, and it looks amazing. But that's not riding it and hearing it run. Once i do that, i might be interested in buying one. Great wall motors have a low recall rate from what i was reading. That means they get it right the first time. But let's see how it performs.
